re: #21 arethusa

In Arizona, you can no longer use the term "illegal alien" in court. Or even terms like "resident alien."

WTH? This is just ridiculous!

In a significant blow to the First Amendment and the use of legally-correct terminology, Arizona Supreme Court Chief Justice Ruth McGregor has advanced the demands of the Arizona Hispanic Bar Association by moving to ban the following language from all of the state’s courtrooms:

Aliens
Illegal aliens
Resident or non-resident aliens
Illegal immigrants
Illegal immigration
Illegals
Immigration epidemic
Immigration crisis
Immigrant invasion
Pro-illegal immigration activists
Open borders advocates
Anchor babies
Proponents for amnesty

Are you kidding? Good Lord. Hopefully this will be overturned by a person who actually knows the law and understands legal terms. Sheesh.

My Auntie was selling church raffle tickets. The raffle item is a gorgeous, hand made quilt, made by loving Republican grandmothers in SC. Of course, I buy a bunch.

I won it.

Will I lose dude points by having that thing around?

And what next? Maybe those little scent candles with potpourri in them? Hummel figurines? Doilies?

Hold onto the quilt, Rawmuse. Some quilts, if they're hand-loomed, go for hundreds of dollars.

My sister is a quilter and she goes to quilt shows. It's amazing how much some of those things cost.

If someone questions why a manly man such as yourself has a quilt lying around, just tell them it's an investment.

92 hutchrun  Mon, Nov 10, 2008 9:23:51am

For Eyes of President-Elect Obama Only

(From November 5, 2008, President-elect Barrack Obama started receiving from the Director National Intelligence (DNI) a daily brief on the state of the world the previous day called the President's Daily Brief (PDB). A background note on the PDB carried by the BBC online on November 6, 2008, is annexed. The CIA would do well to incorporate the following in its PDB to Obama)

There is amazement ---- and confusion--- in India over reports that one of the first acts of the President will be to appoint Bill Clinton as his Special Envoy on the Kashmir issue to facilitate a settlement between India and Pakistan

2. Well-informed sources in India say that if the President-elect wants to severely damage the developing Indo-US relations he could not have thought of a better idea than to meddle in Kashmir. So many Americans----Presidents, Presidents-elect and defeated Presidential-aspirants---- thought they could help in finding a solution to the Kashmir issue and burnt their fingers and damaged Indo-US relations.

3. This started from Adlai Stevenson, who after losing the election to Gen.Dwight Eisenhower, proceeded to Srinagar ostensibly for a houseboat holiday on the Dal Lake and tried to meddle in the affairs of the State by suggesting to Sheikh Abdullah, the then Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, that he should seek independence and promised that the US would support him. When the Indian Intelligence Bureau informed Jawaharlal Nehru, the then Prime Minister, of Stevenson's secret discussions with Abdullah, he sacked Abdullah. Adlai Stevenson became persona non grata with the Indian political class and public.

4. When Clinton became the President in 1993 he could not resist the temptation to have a go at settling the Kashmir issue. He chose as his secret emissary not a distinguished American, but an old college mate of his called Robin Raphael, who was posted as a junior diplomat in the US Embassy in New Delhi. Her American colleagues in New Delhi used to allege that after Clinton took office, she used to go around projecting herself as if she was a trusted adviser to Clinton, who took her into the State Department.

5. Our Indian sources say that she had two "achievements" to her discredit. She instigated the formation of the Hurriyat , a hotch-potch of anti-New Delhi Kashmiri personalities, which added to the existing mess. She also encouraged the formation of the Taliban in 1994 with the help of her close personal friends Benazir Bhutto, the then Prime Minister, and Asif Ali Zardari, the present President of Pakistan. She even met Mullah Mohammad Omar, who subsequently designated himself as the Amir of the Taliban, secretly and sought his help for a project of the Unocal for a gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to Pakistan via the Herat area of Afghanistan.

I would be more than happy to send you my share of snow! Just tell me where to have it deposited and I'll have The One get right on it.

Hilarious story today where Obama says that Republicans listened to Bush speak as if Bush were the Messiah.

I don't recall naming Bush a lightworker, or believing he would make the seas recede and the earth heal.

I have also never heard Bush proclaim "WE are the ones we have been waiting for!" (emphasis in the original!)

U.S. provides $40 billion in new aid to AIG

The "money" quote:

"All told, the moves boost aid to the company to more than $150 billion. Fed officials, however, expressed confidence that the money would be repaid to taxpayers."

Let's see, the taxpayer pours billions down a rat hole, the execs go off on a "holiday", they are still (as far as I know) in place, and the Feds think we're gonna get our money back.

My sister still drives an Alero and I drive a Silhouette. I'd like to buy another Olds someday, but by the time I can afford another car even the last Olds produced will probably be antiques.

At Dulles on the way back, I heard 2 business-type guys at the Red Carpet Club (United), talking about (lamenting?) that Giuliani waited until FL to get in the primaries. I said the GOP needs to start nominating guys who can speak clearly and they nodded.

Morning all, might be sunny for Charles down south but overcast and cold here mid state.

I'm trying to get caught up on the posts here over the weekend and noticed the video of Bill Harris, superintendent of schools in Cumberland County, North Carolina is no longer available at youtube. Does anybody have a link of where it might be, or a transcription?

I see O apologized to Nancy. I have to give him some credit but I suspect it isn't all that genuine, I think he is beginning to realize he can't try and joke on national television like he was chuckling it up with his liberal elite associates. I see someone posted that Bush never had to make a similar apology, Ha!

And I see that Charles has more stuff out about VB and the neo-Nazis. WTF is up with Atlas anyway? Surely she knows the alternate agenda of these people by now but chooses to ignore it. She needs to bury the hatchet.

Oh and that link to the geeky stuff about the possible path to the evolution of life on earth was very interesting, passed it on to the juniorturnspawn who is currently somewhat befuddled on the creation vs evolution question.

Fellow Lizards:

Two bits of news;

1. The AP is reporting that Obama will definitely be closing Gitmo and will bring the terrorists to the US, and aims to create some type of hybrid between military and civilain courts, which will be hard to do constitutionally. The ACLU libs will be all over this, and as an attorney, I am telling you that a lot of these guys will walk because of problems with the evidence. The Dems just refuse to treat these guys as PRISONERS OF WAR and allow them to be tried by military tribunals. The U.S. govenment was not required to give all POWs in World War II a hearing as to why they should be imprisoned. This is just madness. Bill Clinton wanted Osama treated as a criminal, and used the excuse that he did not have any evidence to hold Osama as the reason why he did not take Osama when he was offered up. Treating these guys as criminals allows the Dems to shirk responsibility, and close Guantanamo under the guise of "The Courts let them go."

2. Drudge is reporting the THE ONE has scrubbed his website of any details as to the goals of his administration. Why am I not surprised?

Its easy to say you're fighting against a vague term. Everyone can agree and nod and say terror is bad. The problem lies in turning that into action. As soon as you get into specifics, saying to fight terror, these people need to die, these organizations need to be destroyed and these countries need to be held accountable, you're now asking people to take a meaninful stance which will lead to conflict, which many do not have the will or stamina to see thru.

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - "We lost 2 billion dollars and like any other business we have to stay afloat." And to keep from sinking, the United States Postal Service is considering cutting thousands of jobs nationwide. Lavelle Pepper with the post office in Shreveport says they too are feeling the affects of the same disease hitting the country... a struggling economy. "We employ about 685,000 people. If we do layoffs it would include clerks, carriers, mail handlers across all crafts."

Pepper says the postal service is looking to eliminate 40,000 jobs nationwide. There's not an exact number on how many of those could be from the Ark-La-Tex. Pepper says workers who are not part of union with six or less years of service would likely be the first on the chopping block. "We've identified 16 thousand people that are not covered under contract. We'll see what those numbers add up to."

Well, the price of stamps keeps going up, and now they've announced a 40,000 worker layoff. Still seems like a management issue to me.

:-)

Yes, I'm certain it isn't successful like a regular private business, if only because of the heavy unionization. Notto mention management that thinks like a gov agency.

But in their defense, with email and FedEx, they get a lot less business than they used to, and thus the layoffs. And maybe technology is making many of those jobs unnecessary, so the layoffs are a good thing. Not for the guy laid off, of course.

re: #265 vxbush

Really? Darn. I would have liked to keep it as a usable quilt, as it was a nice lightweight one. But your idea seems doable, maybe even with my limited sewing ability.

It is probably washing the quilt that made it disintegrate like that in the first place. Just for general info, handmade quilts should be put into a bathtub of water (warm) with a bit of the kind of soap you use for sweater and gently squeezed. (I actually walk on mine to accomplish that.) Rinse them the same way, still in the tub. Don't wring them whatever you do. If possible line dry them or spread them flat on the grass in the shade.

Unfortunately for most pieced quilts, repairing the thing involves ripping out huge amounts of quilting and disassembling the top. Very, very expensive to have done and it really destroys the value of the quilt.

The Left seem ready, even eager, to exchange freedom and responsibility for culpability for anything that happens. As long as they didn't give the orders or carry out the act they're fine with anything that happens. Well, anything that happens to the United States.

They also want to be there to shout "Murderer" about anything, no matter how justified, that the United States does. America is always to be viewed n the worst possible light, while the Islamists that are our enemy are held up as near saints and martyrs.

But they also want to be known as neutral. They can't do both , but they seem genuinely confused when they are called terrorist supporters. It is, in their view, their right to support terrorists free from the condemnation of their fellow citizens.

Probably the best thing to do with it is to get some netting of the sort they make bridal veils out of and carefully stitch it over the disintegrating fabric, then hang the quilt as a wall decoration out of the sun. There is no way to replace just that fabric on a completed quilt.

No, a quilter can repair it. I've done it.

For what it's worth, I'd never place a quilt in the sun. It would not only bleach the fabric, but it would serve to weaken the entire quilt.

These investors definitely did not get the memo on worshiping The One.

Chrissy Matthews will be throwing a hissy fit.

Chris thinking to self....'How do I make Obama a 'success'?...'How do I make Obama a 'success'?...OH! , "And now in the final 2 months of the lame duck term of President Bush the Dow is responding in turn, down 111 and continuing to plummet. It seems even the Dow is waiting on the entrance of Barack Obama, my savior and king before it will rise up on high."

Do you need to order every other day? I like them too, but one catalog a month is sufficient. ;-) I'm thinking those burgers could cost about 50 cents less each with less mailings.

I'll even forgive them multiple mailings per week during the Christmas ordering season.

The only problem I have with setting up electronic monthy bill payment is if you get into a dispute with a company. I set up autopay on my security alarm system. It has never worked right and I can't stop payment. Reason--the company only has to change the amount by 1 penny and it will go through. I will never set up autopay again.

I don't use autopay, but I have several payments saved in my account and I always push them. That works better and leaves me in control.

I've mentioned that my daughter is a freshman at San Diego State. She has a female economics professor who she likes. AS far as I can tell she is right on in her assessment of what has caused the problems in the markets - although, she didn't hit the point about democrats hard enough.

Daughter, with blonde hair almost to her waist, also said she ended up in a "Chicano studies" writing class. She said the girls are all really nice suggesting that if she was going to visit Tijuana to hide her hair. We've told her absolutely NO GO.

She said some of the guys in the class are really scary looking. She has grown up in an all white suburb in Virginia, and then all white suburb in New jersey - although her best friend is Samoan.

Good call on TJ, she should never go there. Neither should anyone else. 5 more were killed there on Sunday.

For those who didn't get to see this when I posted it last night:

Obama Spokesman Says 'Obama Ready to RULE on Day 1' (Video included at link)

The co-chair of Barack Obama's Transition Team, Valerie Jarrett, appeared on Meet the Press this weekend and used, shall we say, an interesting word to described what she thinks Barack Obama will be doing in January when he's officially sworn into office. She told Tom Brokaw that Obama will be ready to "rule" on day one. It's a word that reflects the worst fears that people have for Obama the "arrogant," the "messiah," that imagines he's here to "rule" instead of govern.

Jarret told Brokaw that "given the daunting challenges that we face, it's important that president elect Obama is prepared to really take power and begin to rule day one."

Someone needs to get to Jarrett and inform her that American politicians are not Kings and do not "rule" from office. But if this is the attitude of Obama's transition team, what does The One himself imagine he is about to unleash? Could the fears that Obama thinks he is being anointed America's King be far off with this sort of talk flying about?

Someone from the 0bama campaign refers to January 20th as "coronation day" in 5 . . . 4 . . . 3 . . . 2 . . .

Well, yeah. We've seen this before, as in "war on poverty", "war on drugs". Personally, I think we should have a "war on demagogues" and call it a day, mostly because anybody with half a brain knows you can't wage war on the intangible. Mandy, I apologize, I may be the one with a chip on my shoulder. I mis-translated your ribbing as really reading "Yeah? F*** YOU!" :)

Where were the boos last week when he was running for VP?

And as a Philly resident, I can tell you the true story behind the "booing Santa Claus" incident.

What happened with that anyway?

It was only significant when Palin was booed. That was the only time in history that a booing from the Philly crowd meant something.

And you're someone who resorts to explicatives and accusations of pedophilia whenever you have nothing to say. Given the choice of who I'd associate in public with, i'd definitely associate with the accused lair than the person who calls everyone else 'fucking X" or "pedophiles.' That's just a personal preference though. Perhaps association preference differs here at LGF.

I'VE NEVER ACCUSED ANYONE OF BEING A PEDOPHILE.

BTW, the word you're looking for is "expletives." Not "explicatives."

Whaddaya mean - looks as if its hitting the fan already, from what I've read here today.

Ahem - not if you're in the MSM, natch.

Hey Hoops - as I mentioned upthread, that Arizona State decision can't stand for the simple reason that many of those terms are codifed in Federal Law.
It's just a bs grandstand play by that "Justice" of the Arizona Sup. Ct.

Hiya Realwest..how the heck are you today?
I was going to post to you last night but didn't see you..
There still is a chance of a Manning vs. Manning Superbowl.

When they re-emerge from bankruptcy protection the new name will be: Short Circuit City to compete with Fried Electronics.

Of course, Best Buy is already bad joke, so no need for funny names.

The WalMart of consumer electronics, and I don't mean that in a good way.

Use the search function.

You're telling ME to use the search function when you were too lazy to use it yourself? FOAD, lightweight.
