So America does NOT care for the whole planet? That's why we're first on the scene for a global crises (provided the subject regime isn't using the catastrophe as population control), give more to world charity and need than an other countries combined, have the most technologically advanced industrial methods to reduce pollution, etc., etc.
That is one moonbat who I just would not be able to resist flicking on the back of its head if I saw that effing sign.

If I start thinking like someone who cares for the whole planet there won't be an America to think about.
To the contrary, if there were no America, there would be no PLANET to think about.
Its the American military that patrols our seas enabling free trade. Our soldiers and military keeps the planet safe from the likes of North Korea, China, Russia, and Iran.
America is the biggest creator of economic growth on the planet, and the biggest innovator in research and new technology.

OT: Breaking
The whole Palin leak was a hoax!
MSNBC admits it fell for it.
The best part is that Huff Post is going with the "Fake but Accurate".
"To be clear, none of this means the Africa story is false" Why because Huff post has from ANOTHER unnamed source that "Martin Eisenstadt was not one of Fox News correspondent Carl Cameron's sources."
Get it? One guy says something, and then if you hear it from a reflection, repeating what the first guy said then you have a new source?
Hoax means Hoax.

Along the lines of journalistic idiocy:
Student dies after possible Fla. school shooting
One paragraph:
"The victim was found unresponsive in a school hallway, but an initial examination found no evidence of a major wound. Sgt. Frank Sousa said police don't believe shots were heard, and he said they're still investigating whether any shells were found at the scene."
Let's see, this story about a "shooting" includes:
No evidence of a major wound.
Don't believe shots were heard.
Still trying to find out if there were any shells.
Look, it may turn out to be a shooting, but - like checking it all out before running the story - the MSM still practicing ready, shoot, aim.

Here is a whole planet thought -
The whole planet has seen a great deal of prosperity in the last 10 years as the US pushed free trade and globalization as it borrowed money to buy the world's goods.
Now the world is anxiously watching the US adopt a hoarding mentality and is watching their economies shrink and their lives get much harder. The election of Obama, with his promise of high taxes and protectionism will create world wide suffering.
Just thinking globally...

Good old Hank Paulson has decided to "change the plan" and preserve his 700B fund for the exclusive purpose of bailing out his buddies on wall street. Most often, when an American company opens a facility in a foreign country, the company provides the best wages and working conditions in that country even if the conditions/wages are not what we expect in America. As a result, the workers benefit and the companies benefit.
The 'Fair Trade' crowd only look at the situation from the American perspective ignoring the benefit to the foreign country and workers.

I saw that. It seems to me that before any money goes to these institutions, there needs to be a change in management. I'm not proposing that the Government "dictate" this, but any prudent investor checks the management out first before buying stock. If these are the guys who drove the company off the cliff, they should be out before new money goes in.
(Hey, Carl Icahn made his fortune blasting out bad management - then taking over the company. Well, he also often trashed what was left, but you get my point. Heh.)

And start thinking like...a socialist/communist.
Cripes, another person with zero grasp of history. The worst environmental disasters in history have been the product of socialist policies; the Aral Sea leaps to mind. Socialist control of oil production in the Caspian Sea made that body of water into such a mess that the Salton Sea here in SoCal looks pristine. The burning of the Brazilian rain forests was no due to unfettered capitalism, but due to amok social programs designed to allow peasants to carve out their own little patch of land--literally. Think of it as a Brazilian sub-prime crisis. Then, there's Castro's demand to grow coffee in Cuba--where the soil would not support it--because it made a better cash crop.
Wrong--thinking like an American will save the planet so long as Americans can remember what has worked in the past and, more importantly, what has failed.

Good old Hank Paulson has decided to "change the plan" and preserve his 700B fund for the exclusive purpose of bailing out his buddies on wall street. Getting toxic debt off of the books is now off the table - incremental cash infusions to banks which no longer lend but still pay big bonuses is now the plan.
This whole bailout notion, pushed so stridently by the Dem controlled Congress, was nothing but the Big Con run on a national level. Henry Gondorff would be proud.

Everyone will be blessed with higher taxes within 6 months of Obama taking office. At a minimum we are going to get a nice bump in gasoline tax, but I expect lots more, too.

Instead, he dithered and new holes showed up everywhere and so now he is circling the wagons to protect his friends. And my kids will get to pay for it, because the money will just be given to otherwise insolvent businesses with now assets pledged in return.

American Express (down 9% today) has a lot of credit card debt that they turned around and financed in the market. Now, nobody is buying those bonds and at some point they will have to refinance that debt. To who? Lots of obligations coming due that they can't meet out of their capital reserves. I don't know how leveraged they are, but it's got to be a lot.

Just look at what Pelosi wants to do with another bailout she is so orgasmic about: pay off the UAW union obligations Congress shoved down the throats of the auto companies. Big Con begat Big Con and so on.
And now we have the wonderful phenomenon of state and city governments demanding for their portion of the bailout pie with no regard to what it will do the tax payers they so piously mouth they are trying to protect.
Just remember - it is a moral wrong of absolutist proportions to layoff a public employee unless that employee is a soldier/marine/sailor. And do not ever think of touching their retirement benefits - they earned them by voting properly .

It's not always how MUCH you read, but WHAT you read.
Someone who spends a lot of time reading and "researching" from ONLY left-wing sources can be more deluded than the average illiterate.
(This intellectual provincialism is usually a much bigger problem for those on the left. The "right" can't help hearing the other side since the media, academy, and entertainment industry promote it constantly.)

I think they see the writing on the wall. They just became a bank holding company which means they have access to the 700 billion. I don't know why they would do that unless management knew they were in trouble.
They started with imposing card limits (quite a while back)
Then they cut those limits to bare bones (over last few months)
Then they cut business credit line limits (over last few months)
Then the shut off many business credit lines (recently... this month)
Most commercial AMEX customers are not at all surprised by this. The funny thing is when they are pulling back, they blame the customer, lying about public liens, worsening customer credit ratings (ours got better, actually), rather than saying "in these troubled times we find it necessary to reduce our exposure"...

Hope, change, and the tax and spend ways continue.
Obama's looking to take a page out of the Bloomberg playbook, and suggesting congestion pricing taxes on cars. That's a charge per mile, plus an additional tax on gas, and a higher tax on sales of motor vehicles.
Gee, you get the feeling they want to strangle the auto industry?
On the one hand, they're talking a bailout of the auto unions, and on the other, they're looking to impose even higher fees and taxes on those autos. Those higher charges will essentially kill demand, which will kill the suppliers and everyone who depends on the auto industry for business.

Credit card companies are jacking up interest rates on everyone, as is their right under the law. I have zero credit card debt, been there, done that. Paid off my last card, a Sears card that was charging me 20%, three or four years ago.
Good. You have joined the "dead beats" like me. That is what CC companies now call people who don't carry balances - dead beats.
Ultimately the CC companies have little to fear because most are HQd in Delaware - home of the VP-Elect, who had no problem pushing through laws that basically allow for usury. Old Joe Biden - friend of the little guy.

Argggh! Several years ago hubby and I made a concerted effort to eliminate all debt, except home mortgage. It was tough, we sweated, we "sacrificed," we ate a lot of rice and beans. We paid off all outstanding debt (about $8,000) and it took a good two years. I never even considered DEFAULTING. And I certainly don't want to consider bailing anyone out for doing so - you bought it, you pay for it! Why is that so hard to deal with?
Ditto. I have spent the last several years carefully reducing outstanding debt. (With a lot of help from Quicken.) Just now, I feel totally screwed.

Be pissed off. Very pissed off, because that's exactly where these bailouts are headed. They're helping dying industries stave off needed reorganizations and the bailout (if it happens for the auto industry) is a sop to the unions.
The smallish three (Ford, GM, Chrysler) all need to deal with the mess they've made. We shouldn't be on the hook for their mess.

Fair point. I remember that, too, and I remember how cool it was to be able to believe the president again...unlike his predecessor. BHO as a breath of fresh air probably only refers to the more recent past (post 2004). By the 2006 election, the Dems were able to sufficiently demonize GWB and that carried forward in 2008. I will say this, if the big 3 get a bailout, folks are going to be pissed. Pelosi's proposition is nothing but vote buying to ensure that the dems continue to get the union vote.
The only good news is that a bailout for Detroit will not work unless the unions are crushed. 25 Billion will keep them alive for a bit but it's not going to help. No one wants the crap they make. Sorry unions, you are about to go belly up and it's all YOUR fault!
Bailout the auto industry now and we'll be bailing them again out 3-5 years from now. Their pensions and other union costs are crushing them, they are unsustainable. Whether or not they make what people want - and I see a lot of Big 3 cars/trucks on the road - their union commitments will sink them. Today or tomorrow but it's rotted them to the core.

Teeheehee!
Thats what Ken Livingstone did in London ... and once he started, he started to raise this charge and enlarge the area where it needed to be paid.
Did it stop congestion? Did it heck.
Thats why a lot of other large cities talked about it but never implemented it.
Boris is reducing these charges now ...

I'm not a BK lawyer so I don't know but Chapter 11 does involve restructuring so I would assume that would involve renegotiating contracts. I don't think the unions will have much choice. Either they renegotiate or the big 3 declare Chapter 7 and then the whole company gets sold off with Mr. Union Thug out on his ass with nothing to show for it. Under Chapter 11, the company would still exist (current shareholders screwed). Under Chapter 7, company does not exist (EVERYONE Screwed).

True story: my mother's family emigrated to the US from Poland (stop the jokes, now), and went to Alabama to help start a kibbutz. This was around 1914. Too many shtetl-Polacks went there, and it went belly-up fairly quickly.

Well, I thought he'd go after the oil and coal sector in his drive to bankrupt industries, but the union-hobbled Big 3 are the low hanging fruit. I doubt Obama's gonna mess up like Bush did in Iraq by putting somebody weak like Bremer in charge of the bankrupting authority. Obama seems quite dedicated and single-minded in his drive to bankrupt the companies that keep America humming along.

If we let the BK process work, it would be interesting to see whether a new auto company would sprout up. There's lots of plant out there and there's no reason that Harley Davidson (for example) might not say - hey' let's make a cool car that folks want to buy.
With the bailout process, we are protecting mediocrity and being forced to buy higher quality Japanese cars.
Many Americans had strong issues with the 700 billion bailout but never had a chance to object. Now we are bailing out everything and everyone who made extremely poor financial decisions , or like the big three refused to research fuel efficient vehicles in favor of high profit Suva's and pickup trucks. I bought my house on the knowledge that I should plan on paying the mortgage 'myself, in case my wife and I called it quits. I could of got a mortgage three times the size of the current mortgage but was constrained by common sense. By the same token, Toyota and the foreign manufacturers elected to research and market fuel efficient vehicles so Detroit is sucking "hind tit" and hurting. Now it appears all that made extremely poor financial choices are to be bailed while the rest that made good decisions will get to pay for it all.

Hyperinflation may become the "answer" to the more radical members of the Obama admin. It punishes savers and rewards debtors, and it would put a bottom into the housing market. It would also create the chaos that they might want to get more nationalization done. But if you want to put the fire of hyperinflation out, you have to end up cutting spending. "How soon before the left starts to implode from the unmet unrealistically high expectations of the ONE?"
I'm guessing that process will begin on January 20, 2009, if not sooner.
This may not endear me to fellow Lizards, but we may find ourselves in the uncomfortable position of having to defend The One (as our commander in chief) against vicious attacks from his former allies on the Left, especially if (and probably when) he has to act militarily to confront a crisis (you know, like the one Biden promised us - fact is, that was one thing he was 100% right about).
The bitter disillusionment of the Obamabots is coming, and it's coming soon, and yes, in some sense, it will be vindicating to witness - but come on, we knew we were right all along anyway. I will back my commander in chief, even if it means muttering "I told you so" repeatedly under my breath.
Yes, the world is dangerous...no, it's not America's fault...and yes, we knew that and tried to warn them all. But being proven right may be small comfort in the face of the tribulations we're likely to witness in the next few years. You bet I'm worried. And damn, a LOT of people who voted for The One are going to realize how much better shape we would have been in if John McCain was answering that phone at 3 am (or even Hillary, for that matter).

Only heard this about our boys in Afghanistan from a local paper as a few local boys were involved:
30 Brit soldiers held out against over 200 taliban in a 7 day siege in what has been termed The Siege of Roshan Tower. It has left 100 taliban dead and only one of our boys injured.
From the link
[Link: www.greenocktelegraph.co.uk...]
"THREE hero soldiers from Inverclyde took on the Taliban in a dramatic 10-day firefight — and lived to tell the tale.
Stephen Lynn, of Port Glasgow, and Ally MacKinnon and Brendan Blyth, both of Greenock, were under siege from the Afghan rebels during a prolonged battle which raged in the lawless Helmand province from 14 to 23 August.
The trio of Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders were among a massively outnumbered group of 30 soldiers who faced a blitz of mortar and sniper fire from around 200 Taliban during a battle which is so infamous it has been given its own name — The Siege of Roshan Tower.
Stephen, 21, said: “We were told it was the biggest thing to happen in the seven years since Afghanistan was occupied.
“We were there as fire support, which meant Brendan and me were firing mortars at the Taliban and Ally was firing another missile called a Javelin. It started at 5.45am one morning when we heard two loud bangs.”
Those explosions were to be the first of 50 mortars to land that day, as both sides dug in for a deadly fight, which came towards the end of the lads’ seven-month stint in Helmand.
Stephen said: “It began at the same time each morning, went on until late afternoon, then they would hit us again just before last light.
“We were only getting a couple of hours sleep and when it all ended I think we slept for two days solid.”
Ally, 26, said: “When we went to the camp we were told it was quiet and it was to begin with — then all hell broke loose.”
The lads, who recently returned from the front line, had to contend with snipers opening up on their exposed camp, which was surrounded on three sides by enemy fighters.
Ally said: “I was lying flat on my back when a bullet from one of them flew just above my head.
“That was how close they were at times. They could be anything from 400 metres to two kilometres away.”
Stephen also had a narrow escape during the siege when a bullet ricochetted off a sandbag and narrowly missed him.
He said: “I’d stood up to fire a mortar and a bullet shot just past my face.”
Brendan, 26, added: “Our camp was not much bigger than a tennis court and was up on a cliff so we were pretty exposed. But the adrenaline just kicked in and we lost all sense of how long we were fighting for. We had to keep the whole thing quiet from our families so they wouldn’t worry more.”
As they bravely repelled the 10-day onslaught, the lads even managed to snatch these dramatic pictures which show them in the heat of battle.
They helped take out at least one enemy mortar team during the siege, which only ended when the Taliban finally exhausted a seemingly endless supply of mortars and moved on — but not after sustaining heavy casualties."
Found a few more links including one of the survivors of Roshan Tower who is a one-legged medic:

This may not endear me to fellow Lizards, but we may find ourselves in the uncomfortable position of having to defend The One (as our commander in chief) against vicious attacks from his former allies on the Left, especially if (and probably when) he has to act militarily to confront a crisis (you know, like the one Biden promised us - fact is, that was one thing he was 100% right about).
Do you think Obama will be willing to act militarily for any possible reason?
I'm finding it difficult to picture.
When Russia invaded Georgia, he suggested trying to get the UN Security Council to condemn it without realizing that Russia has a veto there.
What is it that you think Obama is capable of doing to protect America?

re: #411 cagney

I see that as highly unlikely. He hasn't paid very much attention to what our generals have said, so far, and I think his definition of "national security" is a lot different than yours or mine.
Now if (G-d forbid!) we suffer another 9-11 type of attack whatever he does in response will be too much for some people and not enough for others.
In any case, defending him against his own base is...way too SURREAL for me. (Not that they'd care, either way.)

And one more thing... this very same person wearing that sign would jump to the defense of an immigrant to America still holding onto pride in their country of origin and its cultural customs. Does not this same concept apply to Americans?

I still believe that the old-fashioned economic values of working hard, delaying gratification, avoiding unnecessary debt, and setting money aside for the future will pay off in the long run.
But the government's taxation of the productive, handouts to the lazy or profligate, and willingness to inflate the currency sure make old-fashioned folks feel like chumps. No wonder we get BITTER !

I agree Mandy. Did you read any of the comments? There were over 400 when I checked it several hours ago. I sample a few of the pages. Most of them were raging at her, but that is normal at Salon. I think they lay in wait for her column every month so they can rant about her. There is a group there that just absolutely despises her, and I don't think her dislike of Hillary helped much, nor the fact that she really seems to put some brain power into her writing.

Be wary of vendors showing historical analysis with stellar results. While shown in hindsight, one presumes that it *was* possible, and thus good advise might be expected going forward. Obama = Hoover?
Pelosi/Read = Smoot/Hawley
Reminder - the economy was going ok until 2006 when Pelosi & Harry took control of Congress. Their only accomplishments (someone correct me if I'm wrong) - 1. raising the minimum wage, 2. A stimulus package, 3. the Bailout bill.
They also did a lot of railing against the Iraq war, the Bush admin (especially Gonzalez), and steroids in baseball.
They refused to do things to help the economy long-term like (1) expanding domestic oil production, (2) making the Bush tax cuts permanent, or (3) expanding free trade.
Is there a direct correlation between Congressional mismanagement and the economic 'crisis'? You decide for yourself, but I think there is. If this continues for another two years, hopefully people will wake up to the idiocy.

The good news is - I've been talking to all the rich people I know. People who already reside in the highest tax brackets. These folks, who already give more than 50% of what they earn to the government, are hunkering down and preparing for the Dem-Obama tax rape. You know how? These folks, who would normally spend money on all sorts of services and products, are reeling it in and slowing it down. Why spend money in this economy when you are about to get raped by the government? I don't blame them one bit. A few business owners I've talked to are going to lay people off. That will be good. right?
But at least it will be all in the name of fairness. After all, the democrats don't beleive in trickle down. So it must not exist. The demos official rape-the-rich plan hasn't even started - and already folks are preparing for the worst. Hang on - after the dems get in - the bottom is dropping.

We'll need time to win hearts and minds and keep collateral damage low but you don't need to be a military expert to know that you definitely won't win the fight if all you're going to do is invite the other side for a cup of tea, a biscuit and a dance afterwards. You need to destroy them and our boys have shown they are more than capable of doing it.
On a historical note, guerilla insurgencies can be defeated. This was done in the 1960's with the Malayan Emergency and of Northern Ireland which was in essence a low-level civil war:

Here's what they are going to do: when Obama is inaugurated, the Anti-Bush protest groups will focus their efforts on corporate America. Any excuse will do, but they will concetrate on environmental concerns.

Do you remember when you loved me
Before the world took you away
Well if you do, then forgive me
And make the world, make it go away
Make the world go away
Get it off my shoulder
Say the things we used to say
And make the world, make it go away
Now I’m sorry if I hurt you
Let me make it up to you day by day
And if you will please forgive me
And make the world, make it go away
Make the world go away
Get it off my shoulder
Say the things we used to say

my experience in life has been that people who talk in broad distant generalities about caring usually are not the most empathetic people to those closest to them.
they have spent to much of theier energy "caring" for a cause

I also got a lovely pingback today from "LGF 2":
A Charles Johnson fan wrote a piece attacking Robert Spencer: Using LGF flawed logic
I think she goes but Mudra some number at LGF. She is convinced that I am the same person as Rodan. I think it was my support of the Serbs fighting the Jihadis. Well she wrote a poorly written long piece with no real evidence that defames Robert Spencer. Well I support Robert Spencer and stand up against people calling everything they see fascism. I do not know enough about VB to support them. But I know enough about Spencer to support him. He is a great man IMHO. BTW I am not Rodan I live on the opposite side of the country.
Shortly after, the Rodan character who had once before called me "moon worshipping scum who is going to get it one day" came around again to verbally defecate on my blog with more threats.
He also put up a tribute to Arkan "God Bless Arkan's soul".
Željko Ražnatović (IPA: [ˈʑěʎ.ko raˈʑnâ.to.vitɕ], Serbian cyrillic: Жељко Ражнатовић), widely known as Arkan (Аркан), (April 17, 1952 - January 15, 2000), was a Serbian career criminal and later a paramilitary leader who was notable for organizing and leading a paramilitary force in the Yugoslav Wars. He was on Interpol's most wanted list in the 1970s and 1980s for robberies and murders committed in a number of European countries and was later indicted by the UN for crimes against humanity, including his role as a leader in acts of genocide.

I just got home from Baltimore's BWI airport. I attended my first event hosted by Operation Welcome Home. 220 Military men and women arrived home tonight, mostly from Afganistan and Iraq. It was a sight to behold! Hundreds of cheering Americans thanking our brave men and women who have put their lives on the line to secure the freedoms we Americans enjoy. We were shaking their hands, clapping, whistling, and hugging them, as we all welcomed them home. All this while Lee Greenwood was singing "Proud to be an American" in the background.
Children were handing out snack packs filled with cookies, crackers, bottled water, and candy to the troops. Everyone wore red, white and blue. Flags were waving. And many of these fine men and women were overwhelmed by the welcome. Tears were visible all around. There were lots of Veterans in the crowd, too. Many were Veterans of the Vietnam war who never got a welcome home like this. I spoke to one vet who said when he came home, people spit on him and called him obscene names.
Then I came home and checked out LGF and saw this moron in an orange jumpsuit wearing an assinine sign that whines about how we should stop thinking like Americans and start thinking like someone who cares for the whole planet. If America is so bad, why doesn't this idiot just move to Cuba, or Iran, or Russia, or Sudan, or North Korea, or Venezuela? I am sure they would love to have an America-hating whiner in their midst.
News flash, moron: The day we stop thinking like Americans is the day that America will cease to exist.
This photo made me think about that Vietnam Vet who was spit on when he came home. The moron in this picture likes to spit, too, but he is a coward and just spits out senseless garbage on a computer print out and makes it stick with some duct tape.
The rot is still out there, folks. They are Americans like this man who will do nothing to further the cause of freedom, but will selfishly take every opportunity to use the very freedom that our service men and women fight to preserve to disparage this great country.
I will NEVER stop thinking like an American as long as I live, and I will always be proud of the men and women who serve our country. Thanks to all of the brave men and women of the military (past and present) for your service to our country!

Memo to moonbatz:
Parts of the "whole world" would gleefully contribute to your demise. Moonbats on eco-tours and Peace Corps type activities have been raped, robbed, and slain by their moraly superior third world hosts. Perhaps multi-kulti is a pipe dream, no?
