Another Hamas-Linked Islamic Charity

US News | Thu, Nov 13, 2008 at 10:08:53 am PST

At some point, we might want to ask if there are any Islamic charities who aren’t financing Hamas: US cracks down on Islamic charity.

WASHINGTON – The Bush administration acted Wednesday against an Islamic charity suspected of helping to bankroll Hamas, the militant Palestinian group that the United States considers an international terrorist organization.

The Treasury Department’s action against the Union of Good means that any bank accounts or other financial assets belonging to the charity found in the United States will be frozen. Americans also are barred from making donations to the group, which the U.S. government alleged was created by leaders of Hamas to transfer money to Hamas.

Why didn't they just donate to CBBHO's campaign and cut out the middle-man?

Union of Good sounds rather innocuous.

7 kynna  Thu, Nov 13, 2008 10:14:35am

I really wonder how much money BO got from Hamas. It's all US taxpayer money, of course, but with all the shenanigans with his campaign coffers ... just who was donating?

I've had experience with the other kind.

9 kayawanee  Thu, Nov 13, 2008 10:16:47am

"Union of Good", huh? Holyland Foundation? They seem so innocous and peaceful.

I guess the more aptly named fundraising schemes "Spawn of Satan" and "Universal Evil" weren't entirely successful. Kind of like Preparations A through G.

FrontPage from 2005.

The “Union of Good” was established in October 2000, shortly after the beginning of the last Palestinian Intifada against Israel. It is comprised of 50 Islamic “charities”, including Hamas and Hezbollah affiliated organizations. The “Union of Good” was supposed to raise funds for only 101 days, but its initial success led the founders, mostly Hamas members, to maintain its operations to date.

The “Union of Good” is headed by Dr. Yussuf al-Qardawi, one of the most prominent Sunni scholars in the world today, who is the source of spiritual and religious authority for Hamas and others in the Palestinian territories. Al-Qardawi, who established and leads the Department of Islamic Law (Shari’a) at the University of Qatar and the Institute for Sunnah Research there, is also on the board of directors of the Al-Taqwa Bank, designated by the US as a terrorist funding organization in November 2001.

But even if his administration rejects the calls for investigations, Mr. Obama cannot control what the courts or Congress do. Several lawsuits are seeking information about Bush policies, including an Islamic charity’s claim that it was illegally spied on by Mr. Bush’s program on wiretapping without warrants.

Can't wait for the courts and Congress to get their revenge on Bush by frightening people into not looking into these Islamic charities.

16 Joan Not of Arc  Thu, Nov 13, 2008 10:20:32am

But doesn't Obama have the power to veto all of this? Will we see renewed funding of this "charity"? After all, change and stuff....

18 quickjustice  Thu, Nov 13, 2008 10:22:17am

Yet another reason, why the MSM deserves everything that is happening to them.

This media, giddy with soundbites about 130,000.00 dollar wardrobes, Wasilla hillbillies, and White House pets, still can't bring themselves to acknowledge we have on our very own soil, the financiers of world degredation, mayhem, and Farfour the mouse.

It is our collective habitual interlorance as a nation this fosters other people to act inhumane./

Again, I wish I were surprised, but I have resigned myself to the assumption things are going to get much worse before they turn for the better.

The Obama administration announced upcoming 4th of July 2009 plans for the Million Militant Man March against the USA to be held in Washington, DC. The Obama administration has also affirmed that William Ayers and Reverend Wright will Co-MC the gala affair which is being heralded by President Obama as a 'World-Changing-Yes-We-Can Event.' The March begins at the Oval Office with no end in sight.
Katie Couric and CBS News, who have exclusive Live HD Dolby Digital Surround Sound coverage of the spectacle, are now reporting that in lieu of the usual 4th Fireworks display 'a few of the heavy-hittin' militant marchin' muthas will be' quote, 'blowin' some big great-satan-crap up.' Couric further reports that the chatter around the CBS kool-ade tank has the Washington Monument in the cross hairs of the Hamas contingent. The Obama administration has suggested the Lincoln Memorial might be a better target since the visiting militants may find greater pleasure in seeing one of our nations greatest Presidents tore-up from the floor up! The star-studded event will be televised around the globe. Anybody and everybody who is anybody from the MSM, the music, the stage and screen, and most sports fields will be on hand.

Says VDH in this must read piece:

The world may be temporarily awestruck with the wise and all-powerful Obama, but it’s not quite ready to coalesce into a kinder, gentler global family — one people, under one Messiah, indivisible, with peace and justice for all.

In fact, Vladimir Putin doesn’t care a whit that Barack Obama is a path-breaking African-American, much less the first person of color to be an American president. The Chinese can’t quite appreciate in translation Obama’s mellifluous cadences. France’s cool Sarkozy isn’t swayed much by the Obama sunglasses, snazzy polo shirt, or nifty outside jump shot.

All these states have interests — not deities. For the most part, either their enmity with or fondness for the United States antedated George Bush. The world’s mental map wasn’t erased away when Bush took power. Being the planet’s most powerful democracy, and a free and confident world peacekeeper, either excites admiration or earns envy — and even the most crude or the most elegant American president can’t change much that simple fact of global human nature.
