Video: Obama’s Transition Team

This is the same group that did the MSNBC “tigers” spoof, and OK, they take a couple of shots at President Bush, but who cares, it’s teh funny. I’m pretty sure Bush would laugh at it.

Truly OUTGRABE! :D

3 Ozark Mountain Daredevil  Tue, Nov 18, 2008 4:16:17pm

Why is it Obama's transition team reminds me of the Detroit Lions?

4 Killgore Trout  Tue, Nov 18, 2008 4:16:17pm

The people weren't very funny but Kermit has still got it. I always liked the frog.

President Bush seems to still have his sense of humor...I am going to miss him, even if he was not the best...compared to what is going to be in the White House? The Bushes are still a class act.

9 Dar ul Harb  Tue, Nov 18, 2008 4:17:35pm

It's sad to see that Kermit has been downsized.

Anthropologists discover long-lost primate in Indonesia

A team led by a Texas A&M University anthropologist has discovered a group of primates not seen alive in 85 years. The pygmy tarsiers, furry Furby/gremlin-looking* creatures about the size of a small mouse and weighing less than 2 ounces, have not been observed since they were last collected for a museum in 1921. Several scientists believed they were extinct until two Indonesian scientists trapping rats in the highlands of Sulawesi accidentally trapped and killed a pygmy tarsier in 2000.

They should take off the 'H' keys - since the President-Elect never allows his middle name to be spoken aloud, there's no need for that letter. (And especially not since lolspeak has redefined 'the' as 'teh'.)

To wit:

Tey sould take off the 'H' keys - since te President-Elect never allows is middle name to be spoken aloud, tere's no need for tat letter. (And especially not since lolspeak as redefined 'te' as 'te'.)

[Link: therightperspective.com...]

this story via JammieWearingFool via Liberty Tree via the above link reminded me of a recent discussion that occurred last week in a college course...currently attending school working on PhD so I have been privileged to listen to the mind numbing idiocy of the leftist profs and lemmings-minded students for BHO, the Bush hate rhetoric, etc...the issue arose during a lecture to which the prof was citing how racist America's white population is and has been in America and cited as an example, the number of death threats BHO has received on his life since the election, more then any other President in history...the prof speculated that BHO will not serve out his term due to the likelihood of his assassination and how it will occur due to the racist mentality of the white population, their fear of having a black president, etc...in the course of the discussion, one student suggested that she would not be surprised if the radical extremists of the NAACP would actually be the perpetrators of such to re-focus and further their agenda of their victim-based racism agenda of decades past and how the NAACP, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton types are hampered now that BHO is in office...she argued that the MSM and the left would immediately point their fingers at a southern white supremacist right wing para-military group and that racism will never cease in USA as long as the whites continued their "racist" political agenda against minorities...she reasoned that the NAACP, it's minions and the Left would have secretly condoned and carried out the assassination to elevate BHO's death into another martyr-like status as the case with MLK...the prof thought she was far fethched due to the fact that the black population or its political action groups would never resort to violence and that if her reasoning was indeed arguable, then the white majority power base in the US should, therefore; be doubly valiant in their efforts to make sure no ill befalls BHO while in office...

I don't have squat to spend on stocks. I think Ford was at 1.72 a share today. Would that be a good buy?

I don't have any cash to spare either. I'm not an expert but I'd stay away from car companies and financial stocks. If you're looking to buy just get a no-load index fund (no fee for buying them). Vangaurd or something like the Willshire 5000. They pretty much just follow the Dow. You don't have top have any special knowledge regarding when to buy of when to sell. A pretty safe bet.

It was just a question. I'm poor, I don't have really have any money to invest in anything. It was just a thought. Now you know why I have never invested. I just don't understand the stock market, and I don't trust other people managing my money when I can't understand what they are doing with it.

And anytime I ask anyone about stocks, I get so many different answers to the same question, I just say forget it.

I don't like to deal with anything that seems to exist on many different levels, with no firm answers. At least not when it comes to money.

/maybe you could afford making monthly purchases of an index ETF, market goes up, you make money and that's about all you really need to understand

The Little Book of Common Sense Investing
It's easy to read and understand. It's also a do it yourself approach. You don't need a broker of adviser. Very easy and not a risky get rich quick scheme.

Thanks. After what has happened to me over the last 5 years, while I am not going to starve (I don't think), I suspect that I will never be making any kind of money that will enable me to invest. And at 55, I think I have pushing up against the odds of any meaningful retirement future.

She obviously never read anything about the assassination of Malcolm X.

Good evening.

MONEY MARKETS-Three-month Libor dips, Fed and year-end eyed

LONDON, Nov 18 (Reuters) - Bank-to-bank dollar, euro and
sterling interest rates fell on Tuesday, while spreads were
mixed, following a spate of central bank operations in Europe
earlier in the session.

Three-month dollar Libor rates eased at
Tuesday's fixing, after posting three days of rises on the back
of concerns over comments from Henry Paulson regarding the use
of funds in Washington's emergency financial package. For more
on British Bankers' Association fixings see [ID:nLI465952].

Strategists said the levelling off in rates after the rise
of recent days reflected the increasing closeness of the next
Federal Reserve meeting, where rates are seen falling, but added
that liquidity conditions were worsening.

"Lending on the dollar side is starting to dry up ahead of
the end of the year and there are very few lenders coming into
the market," said Calyon rate strategist David Keeble.

"It's near enough the end of the year for some of the
American banks, there are concerns and cash is being hoarded
despite the (Troubled Asset Relief Program) TARP and the Fed's
interest rate actions. If you look at the equity performance of
the banks, there is really still not much to be happy about."

Meanwhile, Euribor bank-to-bank lending rates extended a
more than month-long series of falls on Tuesday, dropping to a
new 16-month low.

Translation into english:

LIBOR rates and spreads are easing a bit but banks are still hoarding cash and hesitant to lend. Paulson changing directions spooked them, they are wondering if Paulson knows what he is doing (aren't we all?) or if he will change direction yet again.

The banks getting the handouts are sitting still and looking to use the cash to buy other assets, not lend. Why not? The longer they sit still, the more money they get thrown at them.

Nice work if you can get it.

This is turning into a 3 ring circus.

/sort of a Mexican stand off, in reverse?

They are taking Paulson, and us, to the cleaners. It's like having a printing press.

If I were the head of the Treasury I'd be putting these banks on a clock. You got a week to get your s*** together and return to normal lending practices or I shut you down for a day, fire the CEO, and then reopen the next day by promoting the 2nd in command to CEO.

That person would have exactly one week to get their act together and if not I'd fire them too and just keep working my way through the bank heirarchy like a weed wacker until I found someone who wanted to run it honest.

I'm tired of this screwing around at our expense.

Let's go.

The you're a better man than I. Whenever I see the elderly "greeters" at stores or a 75 year old working at McDonald's I always think that I don't want to be in that position.

They only thing that scares me is I run out of time (as in being dead). I've become very successful in the state of Colorado as a well know playwright. But that doesn't bring in a lot of money. And breaking into the national scene is hard, it takes time.

So, I do worry about running out of time to cultivate my playwriting career on a national scale.

My play "I Never Promised You A Rose Garden" sat in the hands of a major publisher for 2 years. And there was one two sentence paragraph in my underlying rights agreement with William Morris Agency that the published spent two years trying to get changed.

William Morris wouldn't budge. So, the work was tied up for two years, and I walk away with two years wasted, and having to start all over again on promoting the work.

I have full rights to have the show produced and performed anywhere, and to have it published, but anyone publishing it has to honor the terms of my contract with William Morris.

Colorado Mountain College will be producing the show in March 2009. But like I said, it was locked up with the publisher for two years, and I was not able to promote it for productions until recently.

Hell, the lawyers will all make sure I'm dead, than they will jump all over the rights.

I was in college when it happened. So much bad news during the Carter years, especially the hostage crisis. Underdog USA defeating the Soviet giant was something I'll never forget. Probably wouldn't have happened without a career performance from goalie Jim Craig.

Was that all one sentence? My brain hurts.

Rignt now, all these banks and companies have to do is sit back, light a cigar, and let their lobbyists do the work. The money just keeps rolling in.
I talked to a friend of mine today who just got back from some personal business in D.C.

He said there are so many lobbyists there you can hardly get down the street near the capital. Said it remeinded him of the Olympic village, only instead of athletes it was lobbyists in suits carrying briefcases and smarmy smiles.

It's like a swarm of locusts out there, and they are all grabbing our tax money.

For some reason, this song comes to mind.

Sold it to a street gang, who then were stupid enough to go driving around with it on the back of a flatbed truck. I saw them going down 31st street in Chicago with it with my own eyes.

346 Kosh's Shadow  Tue, Nov 18, 2008 6:05:25pm

I was thinking about how much 0bama resembles Nyarlathotep, from the stories of HP Lovecraft, and was inspired to write this:

The Call of Obamathotep

We should have foreseen this coming. Those of us who have read the ancient tomes, those of us who have even browsed the feared Necronomicon; the Unaussprechlichen Kulten; we should have known.

The rise of someone of curious parentage, with mesmerizing powers of speech; his resemblance to one spoken of only in whispers – it all presaged the catastrophe of January 20, 2009.

But if that were not enough, the other curious occurrences of the month leading up to it, should have given us warning. The earthquake in the Pacific, and the subsequent appearance of a new island, an island that could not be clearly photographed even by our most sophisticated satellites and aircraft, or approached by any ships or planes, should have been a warning.
The strange lights and noises in ancient towns that set their inhabitants on edge and set all the dogs barking, should have given us cause to think.
The mass migration of fish away from the eastern coast of the US, and the sudden disappearance of several fishing boats in sudden and unpredictable storms, should have warned us of the immanent reappearance of ancient beings long thought gone.
But we blamed all this on global warming. That is the least of our worries, now. How quaint it now seems to think that puny Man could have much of an effect in this vast world and vaster universe.

And last, we should have fled when he asked to be sworn in on an ancient “holy” book. Some thought his book was the Koran, because it was in Arabic. Others wondered at the strange leather in which it was bound. No, he was no Muslim; it was not the Koran. It was something far more ancient and far more dangerous.

It was, when he ended his oath of office, with the words “...so help me, Azathoth”, that we knew. The scales, the deceptions that he had woven in front of our eyes, were so rudely torn away, and we saw that he was Nyarlathotep himself, the messenger of the Ancient Gods. The ancient text he had used was the dread Necronomicon, of the mad Arab, Abdul Alharazed. The sound we had heard, softly, unrecognizably, before, now grew in volume until it became deafening; a mad, demonic piping. Out of thin air appeared strange, grotesque creatures, dancing to this strange music, which have not since been able to get out of our minds.

The lucky ones of those present lost their sanity immediately. The Ancient Gods did not care who they destroyed – President, Senators, Ambassadors, were all the same to them. I doubt they even noticed us, the way we don't notice insects we step on. But we certainly saw them, and those who followed their appearance; eldritch beings who thought of us as food, or worse, as playthings for their depraved entertainment.

The pride of the free world was reduced to rubble in seconds. The dreams of humanity; our hopes; were changed instantly to nightmares.

The memories of what followed still haunt me; I cannot bear to write them down, and I fear that my sanity will soon be gone. But I must hold on, and write this, hoping that someday, these ancient gods will once again return to their court at the center of the universe, and Earth, our poor Earth, will have a chance to recover.
And that someone will find this, and warn the world, before they once more pick Nyarlathotep as leader.

I hear them coming now; the screams are getting closer. Fortunately, as I made my panicked escape, I had the sense to pick up a weapon from one of the then-gibbering guards. I will use it on myself before they find me. But first, I need to hide this in the hope that some humans survive.

In market news, both the Nikkei and the Hang Seng are down in early trading in Asia.

We have had some deflation too.

U.S. producer prices fall a record 2.8% in October

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- U.S. wholesale prices fell a record 2.8% in October as wholesale gasoline prices plummeted 24.9%, the Labor Department reported Tuesday.
The drop in gasoline prices also was a record for the government's data, which date back to 1947.
The data deliver further evidence for the Federal Reserve that inflation isn't a top concern for the U.S. central bankers, amid Washington's efforts to revive the economy.
The Federal Open Market Committee will primarily focus on its lender-of-last-resort role until the policy makers convene for their December meeting, wrote Mike Englund, chief economist for Action Economics.
He added that it's still unclear what inflation will look in the longer run, after the current financial crisis.

Depends on if Obama puts us into a depression or not.

I bought gas for $1.79 a gallon the other day. Can't remember the last time I got it that low.

This was right before season two, so I was wondering if he wasn't offered the part of Desmond?

I think a great majority of people believe in a reduced Federal government. That is it's sole attraction aside from dope smokers looking for absolution. It's all the extraneous hooey such as isolationism and gold standards that precludes those lib-t fools from any possible significance now or ever. Bunch of dopes they are.

Great name, toots. I called mine Catman. A gentle, plodding giant with a throat-motor to rival Evinrude. He sadly developed brain cancer and I had to put this magnificent beast to sleep at the grand old age of 18. I still miss him - he was one of a kind. I had even taught him to fetch beer bottle caps and he was trained to use the toilet.

Interesting note: in the last three years of his life, I became severely allergic to him and as a result cannot be around cats anymore.

How weird, huh? I grew up with cats, but now can't be in the room with one without sneezing my head off. Change happened in my early 30's.

Socialist Cult in Exile - 918/day x 2040/days = 1,872,720 dead souls.

That would most likely be DV West (East has a pool but no hot tub), although I haven't been out there since 2004. Let me recommend two restaurants, both are microbreweries. Pug Ryan's Steakhouse Brewery and The Dillon Dam Brewery.

Board confirms Coleman-Franken vote

The state Canvassing Board today directed that a recount begin tomorrow in the U.S. Senate race between Republican Sen. Norm Coleman and DFLer Al Franken, even as the board considers a last-minute request from the Franken campaign to include rejected absentee and mailed ballots in the initial count.

The board confirmed that, with all the state’s 87 counties reporting, Coleman leads Franken by 215 votes out of more than 2.9 million votes cast. After county canvasses showed a margin of 206, Coleman gained an additional 25 votes, and Franken 16, from a post-election audit of voting machines in 205 randomly-selected precincts.

Watch this, Franken's lawyers have been and will argue angels an the head of a pin out of obvious, sheer desperation.

Your links about FRANKEN AND SOROS earlier today.

After stopping in Washington tomorrow to meet with Democratic Senate leaders, Al Franken will be heading to New York on Thursday for a reception and dinner with two Democrats loathed by much of the Republican base: former Vice President Al Gore and billionaire Democratic donor George Soros.

The event will double as a fundraiser to help Franken's campaign pay for the recount. Franken currently trails Sen. Norm Coleman (R-Minn.) by 206 votes.

The first $2,300 individuals donate goes directly to Franken's campaign to pay for the recount. Individuals can donate an additional $10,000, which would go to the state Democratic party's recount efforts.

Hitler HAD only got one ball

AN extraordinary account from a German army medic has finally confirmed what the world long suspected: Hitler only had one ball.
War veteran Johan Jambor made the revelation to a priest in the 1960s, who wrote it down.

The priest’s document has now come to light – 23 years after Johan’s death.

The war tyrant’s medical condition has been mocked for years in a British song.

The lyrics are: “Hitler has only got one ball, the other is in the Albert Hall. His mother, the dirty b***r, cut it off when he was small.’

Until now there has never been complete proof Hitler was monorchic – the medical term for having one testicle.

But the document tells how Johan saw the proof with his own eyes. In the account, he relives the horror of serving as an army medic in World War I.

Saved Hitler ... Johan Jambor
He died aged 94 in 1985, but had told his secret to priest Franciszek Pawlar, who kept a note of their conversation.

Johan’s friend Blassius Hanczuch confirmed the priest’s account of how the medic saved Hitler’s life. He said: “In 1916 they had their hardest fight in the Battle of the Somme.

“For several hours, Johan and his friends picked up injured soldiers. He remembers Hitler.

“They called him the ‘Screamer’. He was very noisy. Hitler was screaming ‘help, help’.

“His abdomen and legs were all in blood. Hitler was injured in the abdomen and lost one testicle. His first question to the doctor was: ‘Will I be able to have children?’.”

The hawks in the Kingdom are making a din about striking the pirates terrorists in their lair instead of tying to chase them around. Hmm. sounds a bit like a version of the Bush doctrine no?

The navy patrols cannot be everywhere. As for handing captured pirates to what limited authorities there are in Somalia’s breakaway region of Puntland — which is what the French Navy did with nine last month — it is insane. The pirates are closely linked to the warlords of Puntland who take their cut of the ransoms paid. Negotiating with them and paying the ransom is also madness. It positively encourages them to strike again. This is now a multimillion dollar business. Hitting the pirates in their lairs would mean naval action against Somali ports such as Eyl and the destruction of all potential pirate vessels there

I'd bet the US Navy might be enticed to use gunships to escort the Saudi oil tankers.. for a fee worthy of insuring a couple million barrels of oil make it to the destination of course. Any ship gets within a mile of the tanker.. boom. target practice.

Problem solved.

CIWS belongs at sea, protecting ships... it is a big, heavy, noisy contraption. If you were to carry it on a vehicle, the vehicle would have to be a 5 ton truck or a semi.
The noise is deafening (so vehicle operators would have to be behind a lot of bulky sound absorbing material).
it burns through a phenomenal amount of ammo, so there would have to be a lot of space dedicated to ammo storage.
The gun itself is multi-barreled and extremely large and heavy.

It would be able to protect a lot of equipment though.

Why non-lethal? The passengers? Or liability?

If you can deter a foe non-lethally it reduces the paperwork.
But most ships have some former military on board. Some have arsenals, even small ones.

And if you asked most of the people who voted for McCain who John Boehner is, who Mitch McConnell is, and who Roy Blunt is they'd have no clue.

That doesn't seem like a fair analogy. The questions weren't who individuals in Congress were. It was "what party controls Congress?". However, I would agree with you that most voters don't know who the leaders and whips are.

It is pretty incredible how close the fans get on the mountain climbs. Alpe d'Huez has been terrifying in years past. When Lance took a spill in 2003 when his handle bar caught a bag handle and then caught back up to the leaders only to win was one of the most amazing Tour de France stages ever and there are a lot to choose from.

I'm not sure if he will race Le Tour this year. The Giro is a definite. And he might do the Vuelta in Spain as well. Two races that are not on his palmares. Whatever he races I will be watching the entire thing.

There's more to C-RAM than just the gun system. The sensors are connected to a warning system that plays over loudspeakers all over the complex (much like a tornado warning system).

I don't believe they actually have the guns active, because of the location. Too much chance for collateral damage from the vast majority of the outgoing 20mm rounds that don't actually hit the incoming projectile.

re: #777 DesertSage

So, what is Obama going to do with the Gitmo detainees?

They will eventually be paroled among us. That is my bet. Their countries of origin will not have them back. Convictions will be rare. Look for them to move in next door. Listen for the ullulating.

Yeah, I think most folks would feel a lot better if the economy was better - or at least showed prospects for getting better. But the more it gets governmentalized, I'm afraid, the less likely that will be.
Um, do you perchance owe me an e-mail?!

re: #780 Ozark Mountain Daredevil

Bring them here to military prisons.

You know that once they're on American soil the ACLU will be all over them.
Lawsuits will be a flyin'.

787 newsjunkie_ky  Tue, Nov 18, 2008 9:23:56pm

Did my part for the economy today. Bought 2 Wii systems and the WiiFit. Dang, they really get you when you have to buy all that extra crap.
I hope those things are worth the money. They are Christmas presents.

That's my biggest fear. All evidence taken to now would probably be thrown out due to some sort of legal loophole. Wish they could have been dealt with under the radar.

Bring them into the U.S. proper of course, I'd guess maybe Leavenworth. Some of the nastiest terrorist bastards can't be charged and can't be returned to where we found them or their home countries.

/a civilian court, harangued by ACLU lawyers will have no choice but to release them onto the streets of Kansas

Sorry to have to disagree with ya, but I think he'll grant them pardons and then put them into his new Civilian Defense Corps. I hear it's gonna need someone as cadre!

Well, you do have the edge over me, a layman, and you, with letters after your name and all. ;) Whatever the outcome, I don't find an upside.

McCain would have done the same thing.

NOW, what happens to Gitmo itself? Do we still keep it? I think yes, we do.

Good, one of the daughters wants that to do yoga, so I had to get the yoga starter kit as well. It is a racket. One good thing the 'guitar hero' guitars work with the Rock Band game(?) And something I think called numchucks (don't know what the heck, guy at the store said needed to get them and an adapter thing and something else. It sure adds up fast.
Are the games really that good?

I was just happy I found them. Luckily one of my friends was with me, because I needed two and you can only buy one. She bought one of the systems and I paid her back. Last year I did the same thing for her.
Those things are in high demand I guess.

If they try and leave...well, you know.

I have no idea what we do with Gitmo. Course I'm pretty sure Obama doesn't either but still...just don't know.
Do we need another Federal Pen? Ooops forgot that Billy Boy Ayers will wind up in charge of the Prison System at the Federal Level and he's already on record as saying we have too many prisons already!

Nah, if they're tried in military courts they'll have lawyers assigned to them. Civilian courts are a whole different ballgame. Of course, that's not to say the ACLU swine won't attempt to get the trials moved from military courts. The detestable scumbags will, undoubtedly.

I bought Rock band and Wii last year. We've had a lot of fun with them.

I didn't realize they were so sought after. I'm glad you got what you needed. I need to get out there and get some shopping done, too!

re: #797 Killian Bundy
Well that's possible since we won't be giving any money to other countries, we could cede them some turf.
Or maybe somewhere around January 18th or so, they be an attempted mass prison break in Gitmo and well... still don't know what to do with Gitmo!

Sorry to reveal my abject ignorance here, but what the heck is it about Guitar Hero or Rock Band that makes 'em so "hot" for folks, anyway? I mean, can YOU the gameplayer make the music?

Okay, I'll spot you that. Now, there's a core cadre of the worst of the worst who, for various national security reasons, can never be brought to trial. And no country, even their home or the Islamic countries, will not accept them. They're our prisoners so were not allowed to just kill them. If it was possible, Gitmo would have been closed two years ago, no one likes it anymore.

/what now, bring them to Kansas?

Select a song and a skill level and the music starts. You have to hit certain colored tabs (guitar) notes (microphone) taps (drum) in order to hit the right note, at the right speed, at the right time. You can play alone, but it's fun to play with friends and family. We enjoy hearing the music and getting better at the game.

There are different layers to the game, but that is my short explanation.

No. That was my first question, too. I have heard people are working on that, though.

I heard Bachmann speak to a GOP group in NYC a few months ago. She seemed perfectly rational at that time. I don't care if she's a creationist, as long as she doesn't attempt to legislate it.

True, true.

That skit was about as funny as 01-20-09!

Any ideas what all comedians will do now that they can longer wax critcal humor about the new President or his family?

That's right, they'll still have the evil Bush clan, Cheney, Palin and McCain...my chuckle barometer is pointing towards Palin as their best to make funny fun of...no end in sight to the impending 'humor.'

Note to moonbatz, despite Comrade 0 getting elected, the bad guys still want to kill us and "getting beyond 9/11" isn't likely. Read the memo from Al-Queerda #2:

In an audio message which appeared on militant Web sites Wednesday, al-Zawahri said that Obama is "the direct opposite of honorable black Americans" like Malcolm X. He called Obama a "house negro."
Al-Zawahri also urged Muslims to continue attacks against "criminal America".
The 11 minute and 23 second message is the first public comment by an al-Qaida about Obama's electoral victory.

re: #300 3 wood

We need a "Patton" running this damn thing, then we'd get some progress.
