De-tuned the E string down to low B.
Clever! But it does get a little floppy.

Well as long as it is a music - especially guitar music thread, I hate to reveal my ignorance here, but what makes the wii game "Guitar Hero" or "Rock Band" or whatever the correct names are, so popular?
Do you get to actually create the music or what?!

I'm thinking it is about 3 steps beyond air guitar, but does require some skill. Never tried it tho.

re: #17 Bumr50
So what makes those games so popular? Sounds sorta like playing air guitar while someone else is playing the music - but "Guitar Hero" and that other one have to be more than that, no?!

I have a guitar in my lap right now, but it is not my main axe.
I am teaching myself with the podcasts on iTunes.
My problem is that I have enormous hands, which is why I went to the bass in the first place.

27 karmic_inquisitor  Tue, Nov 18, 2008 9:53:36pm

But what about Bob Ross?

28 BlueCanuck  Tue, Nov 18, 2008 9:54:06pm

re: #22 realwest

Friend of mine likes Guitar Hero over Rock band. Essentially from what I have seen is that you have to hit certain keys on the "guitar" you're given as they show on the screeen. Can be pretty challenging for some of the faster songs.

You should go play in the subterranean levels of O'Hare airport in Chicago. Every bad musician in the city plays there, expecting tips. Although they never take my tip: "Learn how to play thing, and you won't need to be a half-step above a bum begging for coins on the street."

This seems to be one of those things that the right, (not too far) left, Iran, NATO, Russia, OPEC, China, the EU, and the Saudis could actually agree on.

Hmm, from your link

The harbour at Eyl, in the breakaway northern Somali province of Puntland, is a favourite hide-out. Pirates sometimes hold ships for weeks until they are paid large ransoms by governments or owners.

Seems to me that any multinational force should steam into Eyl harbor and demand release of hostages and the ships or total destruction of the harbour and the town around it.
Send a US Carrier Group just in case Somalia actually has any sort of air force, ya know?

I'm really, really tired of being the global police force. Especially for the Saudis and Iranians, seeing as these pirates are also Islamic extremists. It's time for the rest of the world to shoulder some of the expense associated with patrolling the high seas.

Well fuck. No heat at all. No maintenence men available. HVAC is outside unit - energy spent by unit is probably too busy to keep itself warm to generate enough hot air into our apartment.
Just effin great.

I think they tried making a move on a U.S. Navy fuel ship earlier this year. As far as I'm concerned, their safe havens should've been turned to rubble for that alone.

My husband was one of those, and yes he was well trained in weapon use. At the start of the second Gulf War, his ship was attacked by Iranians coming out from behind a fishing vessel. They didn't last long. The marines on board enjoyed the target practice.

I hope this piece is intended to be kind of like the musical analog to a still-life painting, i.e showing off a certain aspect of talent, because it sucks as music. In my book, musical goodness is not measured by hypnotic ability: hypnosis != aesthetic enjoyment! There is no narrative or development of any kind really, AND it's just kind of obnoxious. It would probably be a blast to sit around and listen to stoned, though.

But it's my f*cking book; I don't care who else reads it... :-(

I love this guy:

The Governor of California has just said that the US is the greatest polluter in the world, which is manifestly untrue on any level. Meanwhile he is acting as if there is some reason to curb CO2 emissions in the midst of a depression. This is madness.

He is also acting as if he is the new Minister of the Environment.

What do you think they will stick to the best? 13 is not too old. I was about that age when I started guitar and piano.

Regular guitar is a practical instrument that you can use about anywhere.
Bass is fun and every garage band needs a bassist and a drummer.

Otherwise, these countries collect registration fees while we carry the cost of keeping shipping lanes open.

Just take a look at the difference in tone and reasonableness of this link Wikipedia on global warming, as compared to the ad-hominem argumentation of the popular link "When everybody's lying" yadda yadda, taking the NASA error and inflating it into a claim that all the scientists everywhere, with the exception of a bold group of unorthodox dissenters, are lying about the climate.

This sort of narrative rightly earns scorn when it's bold dissenters from evolution.

 Frank says:

I think "when" is a very important thing, but "what the f*ck!" is also a very important thing to ask. Just keep asking "what the f*ck?" I mean, why the f*ck bother? See what i mean? The important thing is, deal with the "when". "When" will open a lot of shit for you. "What the f*ck" really makes it easier to deal with it when you understand the "when".
