Mamas and Papayas?

4 karmic_inquisitor  Wed, Nov 19, 2008 12:29:52pm

"Papayas" are phalocentric fruit that simply repress women in the male ordered society. I demand a picture and thread of the same size of a "Mamaya".

On second thought, I see that Charles has sliced the oppressive Papaya in half and the picture evokes a certain tension in the viewers mind as she asks "Will the oppressive Papaya have his innards disgorged? I would like to see that."

I therefore amend my demand - please post a picture of the oppressive Papaya with its innards disgorged so that the world can see the proper fate of the phalocentric oppressors!

According to what I heard today, all businesses will have to provide health care in some form to all employees, as well as set up IRA or 401k for all. Both programs require not just the setting up, but the funding of these plans by small business owners.
If I was a small business owner, I would sell what I could and John Galt it.

Little Johnny's at it again..... A new teacher was trying to make use of her psychology courses. She started her class by saying, 'Everyone who thinks they're stupid, stand up!' After a few seconds, Little Johnny stood up. The teacher said, 'Do you think you're stupid, Little Johnny?' 'No, ma'am, but I hate to see you standing there all by yourself!'

* * * * * * * * * * *

Little Johnny watched, fascinated, as his mother smoothed cold cream on her face. 'Why do you do that, mommy?' he asked. 'To make myself beautiful,' said his mother, who then began removing the cream with a tissue. 'What's the matter?' asked Little Johnny. 'Giving up?'

* * * * * * * * * * *

The math teacher saw that little Johnny wasn't paying attention in class. She called on him and said,

'Johnny! What are 2 and 4 and 28 and 44?' Little Johnny quickly replied, 'NBC, FOX, ESPN and the Cartoon Network!'

* * * * * * * * * * *

Little Johnny's kindergarten class was on a field trip to their local police station where they saw pictures tacked to a bulletin board of the 10 most wanted criminals. One of the youngsters pointed to a picture and asked if it really was the photo of a wanted person. 'Yes,' said the policeman. 'The detectives want very badly to capture him.'Little Johnny asked, 'Why didn't you keep him when you took his picture ?'

* * * * * * * * * * *

Little Johnny attended a horse auction with his father. He watched as his father moved from horse to horse, running his hands up and down the horse's legs and rump, and chest. After a few minutes, Johnny asked, 'Dad, why are you doing that?' His father replied, 'Because when I'm buying horses,I have to make sure that they are healthy and in good shape before I buy. Johnny, looking worried, said, 'Dad, I think the UPS guy wants to buy Mom .'

An American businessman's letter to Obama

Mr. Obama,

Given the uproar about the simple question asked you by Joe the plumber, and the persecution that has been heaped on him because he dared to question you, I find myself motivated to say a few things to you myself. While Joe aspires to start a business someday, I already have started not one, but 4 businesses. But first, let me introduce myself. You can call me "Cory the well driller". I am a 54 year old high school graduate. I didn't go to college like you, I was too ready to go "conquer the world" when I finished high school. 25 years ago at age 29, I started my own water well drilling business at a time when the economy here in East Texas was in a tailspin from the crash of the early 80's oil boom. I didn't get any help from the government, nor did I look for any. I borrowed what I could from my sister, my uncle, and even the pawn shop and managed to scrape together a homemade drill rig and a few tools to do my first job. My businesses did not start as a result of privilege. They are the result of my personal drive, personal ambition, self discipline, self reliance, and a determination to treat my customers fairly. From the very start my business provided one other (than myself) East Texan a full time job. I couldn't afford a backhoe the first few years (something every well drilling business had), so I and my helper had to dig the mud pits that are necessary for each and every job with hand shovels. I had to use my 10 year old, 1/2 ton pickup truck for my water tank truck (normally a job for at least a 2 ton truck).

According to what I heard today, all businesses will have to provide health care in some form to all employees, as well as set up IRA or 401k for all. Both programs require not just the setting up, but the funding of these plans by small business owners.
If I was a small business owner, I would sell what I could and John Galt it.

Prophet cartoon row in Indonesia

The Indonesian government says it has called on a blogging website to take down two cartoons which depict Muslim Prophet Muhammad in sexual situations.

The communications minister said the drawings were "very inappropriate", and said if necessary he would ask internet service providers to block the site.

The cartoons, which appeared on the website last month, have provoked fierce debate among viewers.

Many Muslims believe it is forbidden to depict Muhammad in any form.

The two cartoons, which are several pages long, each tell a sexually explicit story involving the Prophet, interspersed with verses apparently lifted from the Koran.

Indonesia's communications minister described the cartoons as "very unethical and very inappropriate".

He said the ministry was asking the website to remove them. And if necessary, he said, it would ask internet service providers to block access to the website itself.

A ministry spokesman said the cartoons were offensive, not just to Muslims, but to all religions.

There were protests in Indonesia two years ago when cartoons depicting Muhammad appeared in a Danish newspaper.

Of course the BBC doesn't publish the names of the blogs, because, Allah forbid, they should anger their overlords.

Publish national security secrets that put your own soldiers and citizens at risk? No problem.

NOVA had a 2 piece on Biblical archeology last night, actually quite good.

The Bible's Buried Secrets

If you want to play paranoia then think of the implications of Nova's position. They claimed the Jewish Bible was all wrong. They said that Jews did not migrate from Mesopotamia, did not invent monotheism, and did not escape from slavery in Egypt. If monotheism was borrowed from the Midianites and the Jews were just runaway peasants who joined with a few runaway slaves who had heard of a Midianite god then there is nothing special about Judaism or the Jewish claim to Israel. The Palestinians can claim that they are as legitimate as the Jews, since the Jews were just rebels against the local Canaanite/Palestinian establishment anyway. Muslims can claim that since the Jews got their revelation second hand from Midianites via runaway slaves the claims that Mohammad was needed to correct and purify the revelation that the Jews got wrong can be justified.

re: #127 Nevergiveup

I read something about that. They acknowledged that King David existed but cast doubt on Moses and the Exodus?

The worked strictly with what could be proved with sources outside the Biblical text. The could link Israel and Egypt in the time of Ramses, but there is a lack of specific archeological evidence for the Exodus, it's more like without evidence they can't confirm it. The Merneptah Stele dated at 1208 BCE specifically references Israel. What they do, do is use the evidence that is available to construct a narrative.

In my opinion, the evidence with narrative they developed and the Biblical narrative are not exclusive.

Syria and UK 'share intelligence'

Syria and Britain have been holding high-level intelligence talks in order to combat terrorism, Syrian officials have told the BBC.

The officials said preparatory meetings had been going on for several months in secret before the news was leaked by the UK's Times newspaper on Wednesday.

They added new levels of co-operation had been reached during the UK foreign secretary's visit to Syria this week.

David Miliband said Syria could play a constructive role fostering stability.

Ah, the old "Arab tyranny, oppression, occupation and totalitarianism is fine if it causes stability" routine.

Well, I guess I'll have to start referring to the UK as a state supporter of terrorism.

Good news: Canadian school deputizes RA’s to police students for political incorrectness

Students at Queen’s University who sprinkle their dialogue with an assortment of “homo” or “retarded” could find out the hard way that not everyone finds their remarks acceptable.
The Kingston university has hired student facilitators to step in when they overhear homophobic slurs, remarks bashing women or racially tinged insults, along with an array of other language that could be deemed offensive…
“If people are having a conversation with offensive content and they’re doing it loud enough for a third person to hear it … it’s not private,” said Jason Laker, dean of student affairs at Queen’s…
“Having a program like this in place could stifle public discussion if people are worried their private conversations are being monitored,” said Angela Hickman, managing editor of the Queen’s Journal, a campus newspaper. “For a lot of people, their opinions get formed in conversations and so stifling that is dangerous.”

It begins.

Good point. If you want to be paranoid, which is a possibility in the media.

However I trust archeologist to be a bit more data driven.

For me I took the point of view that a spritual revelation will be virtually impossible to prove archeology. I think that even a new revelation will be expressed in familiar terms. So to an archeologists, something new expressed in familiar terms will look like a continuation of the former familiar terms.

I started watching it as skeptic but was pleasantly surprised.

German outreach to Muslims backfires

Muhammad Sven Kalisch, a Muslim convert and Germany’s first professor of Islamic theology, fasts during the Muslim holy month, doesn’t like to shake hands with Muslim women and has spent years studying Islamic scripture. Islam, he says, guides his life.
So it came as something of a surprise when Prof. Kalisch announced the fruit of his theological research. His conclusion: The Prophet Muhammad probably never existed.

snip

Most Western scientists turn down such an hypotheses out of respect for Islam or because they are afraid of the reactions of their Muslim friends or because they think it is speculative nonsense.
The word “respect” sounds wonderful but it is completely inappropriate here because one really refers to the opposite. Whoever thinks that Muslims can’t deal with facts puts Muslims on the same level as small children who can’t think and decide for themselves and whose illusions of Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny one doesn’t want to destroy.

Like I (and others here) have said all along.

Paternal Racism.

I've got no money, either way, but there are some really interesting things out right now that may not be available in a year. I know where I can get a Sig 556 for less than $1600. That's pretty reasonable, all things considered.

Ever since Obama won, bombs away.

I honestly never thought I would see this in my lifetime.

Reposted from previous dead thread:
(I'm a thread killer)

Freedom of speech is subject to exceptions.
Why is it so difficult to fit hateful lies into an existing exception?
For example: if falsehoods are spoken with the knowledge that they are false and that people will likely be harmed, then that is an exception. e.g. shouting "fire" in a crowded theater (when the person knows there is no fire).
So let's look at Holocaust denial:
1. If a person publicly denies that the Holocaust happened, is there any way that the denier honestly believes the denial? I doubt it, but if he honestly believes what he is saying then he cannot be guilty.
2. If however the denier knows that his denial is false, then he is not only a denier - he is a liar.
3. Next, let us consider the effect of the knowingly false denial on the people who hear the denial. If noone in the audience is likely to be harmed, then again the denier is not guilty. If however the denial is heard by anyone who is likely to be harmed, then the denial may fall within the above exception.
4. Next, let us consider how serious the harm must be. Surely we do not want to stifle the freedom to spout lies unless the lies are likely to cause significant harm. It seems to me that significant harm could be suffered by at least three types of people:
a) by those who are related to or descended from a Holocaust victim;
b) by those who believe that the Holocaust occurred and who believe the denier; or,
c) by those who do not know whether the Holocaust occurred and who believe the denier.
If necessary, medical and psychological evidence can be presented to prove the harm.
Why does this kind of argument not bring Holocaust denial within this well-established exception?

Also, lying isn't necessarily "criminal." all depends.)

re: #391 J.S.

Probably because of the need to define "harm". (btw, there was a legal scholar in the U.S. who noted all the laws which could result in a criminal prosecution, even given the First Amendment -- all these laws had elements of "speech" associated with the crime -- and, iirc, the number of such laws was in the hundreds -- so, you get "fraud", you get "threats", you get "bribes", you get "extortion," -- on and on. Also, lying isn't necessarily "criminal." all depends.)

Probably, although at least in Canada, for some intentional torts such as trespass it is not necessary to prove damages as long as you can prove that the trespass was intentional. The Court might only award a modest or token amount, but you would still win the case.

There is an all out media war against the Jewish residents of the Disputed Territories of Judea and Samaria, and it is being fought against these Jews in terms that directly attack the Jewish religion itself. The media is not using law to state why the Jews should not have a right to live in peace with their Arab neighbors but instead directly attacking the core tenants of Judaism.

Ie: Jews were chosen by G-d, the Torah is True, G-d promised the land to the Jewish people, and as I pointed out yesterday that Moses' was given the 10 Commandment from G-d (they used a term like "Moses' stone tablets").

If they are going to do this then the least I could ask for (and never get) is that they use the same type of skepticism towards Islam's claims to Jerusalem, Medina, Mecca, the Koran, and the Haj. Those however they take for granted, accept as Truth, and label "Holy" in their reports.

Interesting question. In my humble opinion, I think investors are more wary of proposed runaway spending than tax increases. The nation can endure a modest tax increase on its top earners. It can endure an increase in capital gains taxes.

The nation cannot endure endless public and private sector bailouts totalling trillions of dollars. That's fiscal insanity and a recipe for an Argentinean style economic meltdown.

Emaciated lion: cough wheeze

Sounds like a quote from Clinton's autobiography.

They are filled raspberries! One of my personal favorites!

I sometimes see them made by Brach's.

Found them at Brach's! Thanks! They're probably cheaper than the Washburn's too.

Dogs can eat vegetable matter, but cats are strictly carnivores. They eat meat, and only meat (with the occassional plast bag or electric cord).

my late cat loved pasta and anything with tomato sauce

re: #489 buzzsawmonkey

I agree. Yet at the same time I believe that they will gladly do so and completely ignore the consequences.

What bothers me the most however is the direct attacks on Judaism being done by the media.

They fact that they stem from a gracious attempt by the Jewish communities of Judea/Samaria to show journalists another side of their community that they don't get from the Arab perspective (which included food and drink nonetheless), only adds insult to injury.

There is no doubt in my mind that if Hamas were to open their homes to the media, they would come out of that situation with scores of stories about the long standing Arab hospitality, the tastiness of the food, the uniqueness of the tea/coffee, the kindness of their chaperones, and the plight of the impoverished doctor/nurse/engineer who are just trying to survive.

Yet they insult and trash the Jews of Judea/Samaria when they let them into their homes instead, and they are hardly Hamas.

I hope I am shining even a small light onto the huge bias, and false assumptions regarding the Jewish communities of Judea/Samaria. They will need the help. I haven't found 1 positive article about them in the entire MSM.

Has the Office of the President-Elect given any statement on the proposed auto industry bailout? Unfortunately, you can't vote present on this issue. I assume he has debts to pay to the UAW but bailing out the Big 3 is going to prove to be quite unpopular politically.

re: #512 ploome hineni

Yes you are 100% correct. They are bad on P.R.

However, I think they did a great job with inviting the journalists in, and showing them around. The reality of the situation COULD have spoken for itself. However, the journalists would have had to have actually WANTED to get a differing opinion for anything to work.

The media in this case are complicit. They were treated fairly, given food, shown around, had the Jewish narrative explained to them, and the MSM came out and just wrote hit pieces on those who were just hospitable to them.

If you didn't yesterday, you have to read the MSM response to Jewish hospitality that I posted. -- Wine & Cheese and Bible Thumping Murderers

I completely agree that they need help with getting their message out. How to get them that help is the real question however.

But again. When the journalists point to the fact that the Jews have to travel in bullet proof buses, and hide in towns with barbed wire, and watch towers, as proof that the Jews are the problem.....I'm not sure what one could really say to get the message out.

re: #524 buzzsawmonkey

Agreed. As I have often stated. As the negotiations are now, you have two sides fighting for the wants of only one of the parties (the Arabs). They have accepted that the Arabs will get everything they want, (Demand of "return", 1/3 of Jerusalem (there is still a Muslim Quarter in Israel., but No Jewish Quarter in East Jerusalem) , a state, it being Judenrein, etc.) and only argue about whether the Arabs can have it before or after they give up present Terrorism. [there are no promises that Terrorism won't start up again once they get their Country])
