And Now for Some Todd Rundgren

One of Todd Rundgren’s coolest (I won’t say “best” because they’re all great) bands at its tightest, with a song titled Unloved Children.

Must be a factory somewhere
Keeps on cranking them out
Seems like they travel in pairs
Not worth the trouble but too full of clout

Somebody must play his game
They get stuck in the here and now
Lending and borrowing pain
His fist, your face, you kiss the ground

But he don’t do nothing half way
Complete this equation
He needs justification
Distaff affirmation
To keep on crankin’ it out

We could build cell on cell
Mainline him straight to hell
But that would not dispel
Violent men, hard-headed women, unloved children

Must be a garden somewhere
Keeps on sending them down
Big eyes, big teeth, big hair
Ready to breed with the nearest clown

She has the will to complain
But something won’t let her
Break free of the tether
Even though she knows better
She just can’t figure it out

We can prescribe for pain
Have her declared insane
Even all this won’t change
Violent men, hard-headed women, unloved children

We let them find their own way
While everyone chooses
To ignore the abuses
We’ve all got excuses
We keep on, keep on cranking them out

And nobody has the time
To look at the great design
But they’re all from the same bloodline
Violent men, hard-headed women, unloved children

Bob Dylan
In a soldier's stance, I aimed my hand
At the mongrel dogs who teach
Fearing not that I'd become my enemy
In the instant that I preach
My pathway led by confusion boats
Mutiny from stern to bow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.

Just in that kind of mood today. lol

Steven Tyler had a brief relationship with fashion model Bebe Buell, during which he fathered actress Liv Tyler (Buell initially claimed that the father was Todd Rundgren to protect Liv from Steven's then drug addiction).

Restored: First Image of the Earth from the Moon
Explanation: Pictured above is the first image ever taken of the Earth from the Moon. The image was taken in 1966 by Lunar Orbiter 1 and heralded by then-journalists as the Image of the Century. It was taken about two years before the Apollo 8 crew snapped its more famous color cousin. Recently, modern technology has allowed the recovery of higher resolution images from old data sources such as Lunar Orbiter tapes than ever before. Specifically, recovery of the above image was initiated 20 years ago by Nancy Evans, and completed recently by Dennis Wingo and Keith Cowing who lead the Lunar Orbiter Image Recovery Project. Lunar Orbiter Image Recovery Project. Images like that above carry more than aesthetic value -- comparison to recent high definition images of the Moon enables investigations into how the Moon has been changing.

That was their first album after sobriety, and when you're used to writing songs in a drug/alcohol-induced haze for 15 years, it takes time to learn how to write sober. Cut'em some slack. Love In An Elevator is a cool song from Pump, IMO.

We jumped off the car on Sunday, and it was fine until today. It started fine until today. There's got to be some function of the car that is leaching off the battery. It stays fine for a few days, then it's "clickclickclick" and nothing.

I don't want to lay out $75 for a battery if this one is ok, especially if we're just going to have to pay more in the long run for something else.

But dang - I hate the whole "hit and miss" every morning!

He had good taste in women, however. I remember seeing him with one of my favorite Playboy Playmates around that time.

Hey stevieray - I've listened to it twice now and I gotta say I think it's not from an "established band" but has got singers/players on it they may have gone on to fame in other groups.
Pisses me off, too, cause I KNOW I've heard music and sounds just like it - but it's definitely not Chicago (I went to Shelley's site) cause it ain't bluesy enough and sorta sounds a little bit motown in some musical phrases.

When everything was ready, Eddie wheeled me into the procedure room, where Andy was waiting with a nurse and an anesthesiologist. I did not see the 17,000-foot tube, but I knew Andy had it hidden around there somewhere. I was seriously nervous at this point. Andy had me roll over on my left side, and the anesthesiologist began hooking something up to the needle in my hand. There was music playing in the room, and I realized that the song was Dancing Queen by Abba. I remarked to Andy that, of all the songs that could be playing during this particular procedure, Dancing Queen has to be the least appropriate.

Yeah, it's real tempting to say at least some of the singers are afro-american. The similarities to Steely Dan are obvious, but it's not those two.

My feeling is that the singers are the focus and the band is merely back up. We need the rest of the album!

The first song I learned to play on a six string back when I was 15.

That would be 1973...there abouts...

294 Mel Lono  Wed, Nov 19, 2008 11:36:39pm
"The death of Neil's discovery and friend, Danny Whitten seems to have affected him deeply. Since 'The Needle & the Damage Done' most of Neil's songs about Danny's death reflect his guilt complex. Neil seemed to fall back into an even deeper depression. Then he began drinking, became sentimental and generally intolerable for anyone who had anything to do with him. It's said that those around him treated him with great caution for fear of provoking him, causing him to retreat and become a recluse.

Actually I think Steve is in for Buffalo Springfield and CSN and I think Neil is in for Buffalo Springfield and for him with Crazy Horse, (which is why stills was first) but I ain't sure.

I'm not sure about the details of who's in for what, but they all deserve to be there.

Great work!

I found a website that lists Keysor Century releases, and the record number is on the list as a test pressing for The Notables, but followed by a question mark.

There have been a lot of bands named The Notables, but none that I've found match the dates or style of the song.

Reading on the original site, it looked like that Notable information came from your friend herself, trying to find info, so that question mark was from her. I think. I'll post when I get a response from Stan. It looks like he was working at KC right around the time this was done.

Every time I come here, I know and love all the music! I can't believe today it's Rundgren! Just last week I downloaded "Something/Anything to my ipod, and my family is ready to revolt but I am loving it. Rundgren is Norwegian, I think (Check out his very funny "Song of the Viking")

311 Timbre  Thu, Nov 20, 2008 6:48:53am

The music is too jazzy and bluesy for a serious set of lyrics like this--they just don't match. Both the lyrics and melody are very good separately, but not together.

Well, I have just listened to this and followed along with the lyrics.

How tragically true are those words.

Here, in NZ, there is an epidemic of violence perpetrated against wee helpless kiddies and it is, for the most part, one group, the indigenous folk. The young women, almost girls, some as young as 12-13, are getting knocked up, they drift from relationship to relationship. The young men take pride (they call it mana) in being violent, involved in gangs and crime.

There is a continuing stream of news items that unfolds, before our eyes, this tragedy. The psychobabblers say it involves poverty, but that is not the truth. It is as Todd sings, violent men, hard headed women, and unloved children. Sad, utterly sad.

re: #296 Mel Lono

Not that I've heard. I got "Impeach the President" from my kids for my b-day. I told them I had to return it even though I have every other album and boots out there. And I told them why. Neil has got just as right to complain about America as you do, probably more so.

Why does he have more of a right? He's Canadian, so he can pi$$ off...

(no offense to Lizards from the Great White North, eh? This is directed squarely at Neil Young, someone whose music that I have loved and whose CDs have all either been sold or put in the 'never listening to or buying anything from that w@nker again' like Stan Ridgeway; SR really, really hurt, since I was a huge fan of both Wall of Voodoo and his solo material. But his hidden (read 'cowardly') track audio collage' that he did of President Bush on his side project band Drywall's release called BBQ Babylon put him in the 'dead to me' pile forever. No redemption.).

Strolling through a walmart recently I picked up Meat Loaf: Bat Out of Hell for 6 bucks. Produced by Todd Rundgren. I hadn't listened to that album in 20 years. Its awesome.

re: #255 Mel Lono

I dont think Neil is in with crazy horse. Crosby could be in for Yardbirds and CSN though.

Crosby was in the Byrds, not Yardbirds, no?

Uhhh, really not that good. Guitar decent, song average, voice borderline awful.

Did I miss it or does anyone not know of 'Hello Its me " ?

A classic and thanks Charles for the tribute
