Dear AP...why are you so biased?

2 Dark_Falcon  Sat, Nov 22, 2008 9:20:54am

First Question: When are you going to ask Barack Obama a hard question?

3 Ben Hur  Sat, Nov 22, 2008 9:21:08am

Who pays you to be so anti Israel?

4 Sharmuta  Sat, Nov 22, 2008 9:21:19am

I suspect this will either be short lived or full of fluff as they ignore serious questions from disgruntled consumers.

5 Wyatt Earp  Sat, Nov 22, 2008 9:21:32am

Dear Sirs or Madames,

Why are you so blatantly in the tank for Barack Obama, and when did "journalism" be redefined as "The art of becoming the Democrats' lickspittle?"

6 saberry0530  Sat, Nov 22, 2008 9:21:35am

Since honeybees are an alien, invasive species in North America, having been introduced by European settlers, why are such dire consequences feared if they're dying off? Wouldn't whatever was here before them just take over the job of pollinating flowers again?

10 lawhawk  Sat, Nov 22, 2008 9:23:18am

Okay.

Here's an easy one:

How come you've gone and banned the use of photos provided by the Pentagon as a result of finding that a photo was photo edited when you've failed to uphold your own editorial standards on literally hundreds of photos from the Middle East that are staged, edited, or otherwise manipulated by the photographer or the AP editors to cast Israel in as bad a light as possible?

Dear Mr AP, Just curious about your layoffs. How many last year? What can your business look for next year? Oh, and can you give the date the "Economy has never been better" story gets published? Just curious.

14 Rancher  Sat, Nov 22, 2008 9:26:06am

15 MandyManners  Sat, Nov 22, 2008 9:26:17am

January 21, 2009. The latest that such an article will run is 100 days thereafter - or about April 15, 2009 - to remind you of your patriotic duty to pay taxes....

Off topic, The Chicago Tribune is repiorting that President Elect Obama stopped bt Mannys, a famous Chicago Jewish Deli yesterday.
With pictures they report that he ordered three corned beef sadwiches & two slices of cherry pie to go. they further report that people yelled to him, "I love you"
Is this realoly news? They are still pushing this guy.

Dear AP- would you be able to maintain operations if the islamists quit subsidizing you?

29 lawhawk  Sat, Nov 22, 2008 9:31:10am

I guess the AP is struggling to find news out in the real world that they need us to figure out what to write about. If they were really interested in what we have to say regarding criticisms of their editorial situation, they would actually be responsive and adjust their coverage. Instead, the tone is generally one of condescension.

That probably did happen. One thing I do not disagree with Obama on is his fondness for a good deli. Though I typically order omelets for breakfast at such places instead of waffles, and I prefer apple pie.

We're going back to Camelot with a vengeance, it seems. I'm reminded of a New Yorker cartoon from 1962 (pre-Missile Crisis), showing a husband and wife watching TV with the news announcer saying, "This is a special report. No Kennedy, anywhere, did anything today. Let me repeat that..."

Maybe they think if they make his every movement seem earth-shaking, maybe they'll get the "Change" he promised.

Have to run. Have a great day, Lizards.

The AP lost 6 clients last year, one of consequence. That is a serious sign that the current media is in bad trouble. While the specialized news services thrive Reuters and AP continue to slide into oblivion. It may be that the editorilization of news is a desperate attempt to keep clients. But with 50% of the population disagreeing with the editorial stance, they are only driving media sales even more downward.

Also allot of congressmen that got elected two years ago are from conservative states and ran as fiscal conservatives. Everyone wants to be re-elected. I don't think this will be as bad as we all feared.

Reuters is a specialized news provider as well - for businesses with business information. That's one of the results of the Thomson Reuters merger - more business information. Here is an analogy. The AP is to Journalism like what the UN is to Diplomacy. It is an artificial construct designed to serve as the creature of established organizations that have legitimacy. The firms that established the AP are legitimate because they have shareholders. The UN was founded as a tool for the convenience of sovereign nations. In both cases the Servant has become pretentious and thinks it is now the Master.

CNN asks, Is Obama too fantastic?
Obama's vetting could chase away candidates

As a presidential candidate, the former Illinois senator quickly adopted the nickname "No Drama Obama" for the meticulous level of prudence he applied to nearly every campaign speech, strategy decision and personnel appointment. The result was a nearly two-year-long presidential bid most notable for its seeming lack of a damaging gaffe or embarrassing misstep.

But some political observers say the president-elect's similar caution with respect to recruiting new administration officials and key high-level advisers may be turning away a string of qualified candidates wary of subjecting themselves and their families to the most rigid presidential vetting process on record.

Heh.

re: #77 pat

The AP lost 6 clients last year, one of consequence. That is a serious sign that the current media is in bad trouble. While the specialized news services thrive Reuters and AP continue to slide into oblivion. It may be that the editorilization of news is a desperate attempt to keep clients. But with 50% of the population disagreeing with the editorial stance, they are only driving media sales even more downward.

I saw a piece the other day - from the spinoff links - print media - not just newpapers but mags - are really going to go belly up in 2009 - how much ad space do you think Detroits big 3 buy? Lots. And one ad marketing guy was terrified because they haven't sold ONE ad for 2009.

The local McClatchy rag depends heavily upon AP for world and national "news" of 241 homes in this subdivision, only about 20 take the local paper. They are among the few Dems that live here. They are nice people, and I assume they take it for the sports section and TV schedule. In the last 5 years the circulation decline and layoffs have totaled about 50% locally. One only need take a look at a three year chart for McClatchy to see where the company is headed.

From the examples, the kind of questions AP wants, are basically that they want to act like Google Lite, not what you'd *think*, that they might try to establish a dialog with their readers and, like, enter the twenty-first century for media. Nope, and y'know why? OK, I'll tell ya why, because they've never done it that way, sure, but also because doing so would make their bias that much clearer, and perhaps to their credit, in some tiny deference to their long-abandoned ideals, they don't want to do that. Don't even want to make it clear to themselves, perhaps. Dear AP, what do you want to be, when you grow up?

With all the Clintonites, it is difficult to see how the Obama administration with be corruption free. No administration ever started with the taint of corruption as fast as Clintons. Travelgate, the FBI files and enemy list, etc. Then we shall see the Chicago pols next. But what really scares me are the second tier appointments. This is where the loons will go.

OK, let me second something like what Wishing already said @ #193, that sure, Clinton put the loons in functional positions but Obama, perhaps, wants to be some kind of technocrat, it seems. I have little faith that he has the faintest idea of how to actually achieve anything that he wants, quite the opposite, but with the possible exception of Holder, so far his nominees are far more boring than they are lunatic.

Um, except for that one other, of course, and you know of whom I speak but dare not mention her name.

True, the previous POTUS usually has a carry over of policy effects.

However this time the economic woes can be traced very accurately to the CRA. A problem which Bush attempted to address in each of his budgets but was blocked each time by the (D)s in congress.

Well, the Dems are usually the ones causing gridlock and blocking necessary reforms. Then, they sit there in dismay and shock when things don't get done, and promptly blame it on the Republicans. What will be their excuse now? I am afraid of the coming legislation and subsequent laws Prez. O will sign. Hopefully, the power drunk Pelosi/Reid axis will get into a pissing contest with the new whipper-snapper that got himself elected. Then, they will spend more time fighting each other rather than running our entire country off a cliff.

Oh, nutz. How old is that kid? 14?

I think he's 13. I wish I would have thought to ask the father why he allowed his son to continue working with me if he saw things that worried him in rehearsals.

I did ask him what result he wanted from our conversation, and he said for me never to speak to his son again. I asked if the student would be allowed to work at tonight's performance, and the father said no.

I really feel sorry for the boy.

The show was great, but the read drama occurred afterwards.

The father of one of my techies called me a "selfish, self-centered asshole" and said that I shouldn't be allowed to work with students.. He claimed that he sat in on rehearsals when I didn't know any parents were there and he "saw what I did." He said that his son "loved me and was always defending me" (from what, I wanted to ask). He told me he wanted "to ruin my evening like I ruined his son's."

I must admit that I was terribly upset and need to cry for awhile. I did tell the kid in question before the show (in a calm voice--I wasn't angry at all) that although he's done a good job, he talks and goofs off at times and is distracted or distracting and cues are missed, and that if he messed up the show, he wouldn't be working in any more of my productions, Evidently that made him cry.

God bless you, Goddess. That's what that kid needed to hear. Maybe if his father paid more attention to making his son accountable for his actions that running in to "save" him afterwards, his son wouldn't get himself into these predicaments.
We have a kid on the tech crew with my son who lies and tries to undermine the other kids on the crew to make himself look good. I know that if they kick him off (which I would have done by now), the teacher will get an earful from this brat's mother about how much it's harmed him. The mom has no concern for the other kids who are negatively affected by his cr-p.

This addresses much of the mindset behind what AP has become

Look, there are two ways to prevent young children from drowning:

1.Place barricades, gates, locks, and other restraining devices around any body of water large enough to immerse the child’s head in; in addition, provide education, audio-visual instruction, role-playing and other methods to inform young children on the dangers of inhaling large amounts of water – whether it be fresh water or sea water – and to provide the funding, continuing outreach and community activism necessary to make sure that ALL Americans are prevented from encountering these deadly dangers wherever they may be found.

Or:

2.Teach your kid how to swim.

I know it's early to go off topic but lawhawk's post pretty much says it all. What do y'all think about Geithner for Treasury Secretary? I know he's a Paulson hack but it could be allot worse. I would have preferred this guy, but I'm not President. Given everything Obama said during the campaign and especially the crap he said before he began running, I'm glad he's a liar. I think he'll be a centrist and stand up to Pelosi and Dingy Harry. Also allot of congressmen that got elected two years ago are from conservative states and ran as fiscal conservatives. Everyone wants to be re-elected. I don't think this will be as bad as we all feared.

My fears in having obama in as prez is that his lack of experience in running anything makes him vulnerable to left-over clinton political hacks with an agenda and that the hacks instead of obama will actually run the government.

Or it could turn out that Obama is just a manipulative politician who pandered to everyone to get elected and really does want to do what is best for America. Not very likely but boy would it turn out to be a hoot....

I believe that is true.

One of the mistakes that people make with villains, whether they are in fiction or in real life, is that they assume that bad people know that they are bad and in fact revel in their badness.

The truth of the matter is that they see themselves as being the ideal of goodness with best of intentions for everyone in the whole world. They are just shocked to their core at how many people they must abuse and even kill to make the world a better place for everyone to live in.

I have little faith that he has the faintest idea of how to actually achieve anything that he wants, quite the opposite, but with the possible exception of Holder, so far his nominees are far more boring than they are lunatic.

Frankly, though I have zero hope for the 0, it's nice to hear him propose something useful, since Dubya completely sank beneath the waves sometime in late 2006.

I have not seen an uptick in "Wanted: Windmill Techs" in the local want ads. Perhaps that will be coming in the next few months?

Just lacking a few details, doncha know, like what and how, but as 0bamai explained during the campaign, it's just the wanting that's key, we're Americans, we always work out the details.

Obama: Country Facing 'Economic Crisis of Historic Proportions'

WASHINGTON -- President-elect Barack Obama on Saturday outlined his plan to create 2.5 million jobs in coming years to rebuild roads and bridges and modernize schools while developing alternative energy sources and more efficient cars.

"These aren't just steps to pull ourselves out of this immediate crisis; these are the long-term investments in our economic future that have been ignored for far too long," Obama said in the weekly Democratic radio address. The economic recovery plan being developed by his staff aims to create 2.5 million jobs by January 2011, and he wants to get it through Congress quickly and sign it soon after taking office.

He called the plan "big enough to meet the challenges we face" and said that it will jump-start job creation but also "lay the foundation for a strong and growing economy."

Aides said the economic plan outlined Saturday went further that the president-elect has gone before.

Translation: This is a revisiting of the WPA projects. The problem is, with the bad credit situation around the world, this will likely get paid for by simply printing money. Thsi will also not grow businesses. So expect a resumption of 1970's level inflation and stagnation as a result of this.

Obama acknowledged Saturday that evidence is growing the country is "facing an economic crisis of historic proportions." He noted turmoil on Wall Street, a decrease in new home purchases, growing jobless claims and the menacing problem of deflation.

He said he was pleased Congress passed an extension of unemployment benefits this week, but added, "We must do more to put people back to work and get our economy moving again."

Figures out this week showed new claims for jobless aid had reached a 16-year high. "If we don't act swiftly and boldly, most experts now believe that we could lose millions of jobs next year," Obama said.

He cautioned, "There are no quick or easy fixes to this crisis, which has been many years in the making, and it's likely to get worse before it gets better."

Translation: No, we can't and don't blame me.

"We have acted boldly, bravely, and above all, together," Obama said. "That is the chance our new beginning now offers us, and that is the challenge we must rise to in the days to come. It is time to act. As the next president of the United States, I will."

Translation: I will use this as a justification for all of my socialistic/Marxist policies.

Look at it this way - hardware has become more or less a "commodity." Last week, BestBuy had the new "small form" eMachines 1200 on special, with an 18" widescreen monitor for $299. Five years ago, you couldn't buy a 17" flat screen monitor for that price - and it was 3x4 - not widescreen. As pricing on hardware comes down as fast as it has, seems inevitable that some quality and a lot of "repairability" has been lost along the way.

We were talking to one of our youngest son's new teacher last year and we told him he could do "...what ever he had to do" if the boy got out of hand. He just sort of laughed and said "Oh, you're just kidding..." and our boy looked at him, sadly shook his head and said, "No, no they aren't...."

Yep. Hardware is so cheap that it is often easier to upgrade than it is to repair. How many radio and television repair shops do you see these days? No on bothers to repair the stuff. Most places you can't even get the parts and if you could get the parts, couldn't hand solder the part to the PCB (think LCC and other surface mount components).

New York Times Co. stock fell 7% to close at $5.32. The stock hit a new 52-week low of $4.95 during the session.
New York Times Co. said late Thursday that it has slashed its quarterly dividend to 6 cents a share from 23 cents in the face of an unprecedented decline in advertising revenue across the newspaper industry.

More on the Citigroup situation:

Citigroup talking to U.S. government as shares dive: source

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Citigroup Inc has begun talks with the U.S. government as its plummeting share price raises doubts about the bank's ability to survive, a person familiar with the matter said.

The bank has met with officials from the Federal Reserve and the U.S. Treasury Department in recent days to discuss its options, which include an endorsement from the government and another capital injection from the Treasury, the person said, requesting anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to the press.

The bank's management has also internally discussed selling off units or finding another bank to merge with. But it is not clear if anything short of capital from the government will soothe markets that are increasingly questioning whether Citigroup has enough capital to withstand the recession, the person said.

This will be interesting to see what happens.

Evening, Lizards.

He cautioned, "There are no quick or easy fixes to this crisis, which has been many years in the making, and it's likely to get worse before it gets better."

He is bold, and unafraid. This is a middle finger to us, who know the details about this crisis, and it's "making". Obama made it, he and his buddies. I've heard other statements from folks involved, directly or indirectly (such as from AP and Reuters), like this. Statements that tell you, if you've read anything at all about Barak Obama and the Strategy of Manufactured Crisis - anything at all about the Cloward-Piven strategy, and its multifarious destructive uses. When Biden said there would be a "manufactured crisis", he also used those words. He was, figuratively, looking at us, a direct, grinning stare (I'm speaking to you people and laughing, because it's all true, and you can't do jack or say jack that people will even believe) when he said them. He used those words. A middle finger. They make more and more of these "gaffes" each week. They are not gaffes.

They're of the mindset, these Communist-wannabes, that, the Rightwing blogs may know the whole history of this movement, maybe they have the whole timeline, all the actors and events and pawns and players...but they can't do squat about it...this juggernaut is unstoppable, so lets just laugh at them while winking, letting them know, that we know they know, and we don't care. We don't care that you have proof of our communist intentions, of our utmost desire to take the USA down from within. We don't care because (and we know that you know this, too), we have re-educated the greatest share of your minds, over the last 2 generations, and we know that Communism, in the minds we have shaped with our schools, is not seen as a bad thing at all. We can say anything, we can call them stupid, they'll still vote for us. They won't complain because we've made things like critical thinking and reading for them a chore, something to be avoided.

Look for more of this, pointed statements that the general No-Reading, TV-dwelling, KoolAid-drinking public cannot fully grasp the significance of, but which tell me (maybe it's just me, hey...) that they know that we see what they've done and are doing, and they know how effective we are (zilch) at convincing the aforementioned 52% of Americans of the same. Big middle fingers.

Welcome back, Cog.

Let's go a steps further. In late 2002 I bought a "CineVision" Model 650 DVD player from Radio Shack for $48 net after rebate. I still have it, it still works, mostly as my CD player. It is probably worth it to buy it, verify that it works, and put it on the shelf for the time the CV-650 actually dies. Bought a Zenith DTT-901 Digi-TV converter last night for a net $20 after Congressional Rebate. It is on the shelf after testing in case there is a problem with getting TV otherwise - am keeping the box, plastic and all documentation as it might become a collector's item like "Depression Glass."
With NEW Prices like this - a repair industry cannot exist. Yet - I have a memory of both SONY - CD (1983) and Matsushita/PANASONIC - DVD (1996) machines - BOTH "MODEL 1000's" that introduced technology at a retail price of +/- $1,000 US.
Blue-Ray DVD IS a Superior Technology without a doubt - AND - the marketing is LOUSY - just like Betamax - where I hung out as the "Beta-Master" or vice versa until 1986. This time they have to get player deck pricing down to $100/net and charge no more than $5 premium over standard DVD before I am willing to "play." In fact, if the Studios were smart, Blue-Ray would be the only format to release in as long as the electronic manufacturers "kicked-in" as in the early days of DVD to get the software format adopted. Oh well, (more than), enough for now.

AP has your newsroom been taken over by Somali Muslim Pirates?

Dear AP,

In your excitement about working for the new administration, don't forget to trademark your new tagline "The Associated Press, the Official News Organ of the Obama White House".

Question: Why do you want more information from me than from your Mideast stringers?

News? Is that what they do?

Compare Electricity Prices in your area. Texas Electricity is deregulated; you have the right to choose Texas Electric Rates from among many Texas Electric Companies.

Play nice.
