Fox News seems to be getting back to normal. They have a front page story on some of the problems with Barry's cabinet nominees. Not that he'll have any trouble getting them approved by a Democrat laden Congress.

Looks like we got new tires on the car just in time! Shortly after we got home yesterday, it started to snow, and it's been cold enough it actually stuck till this morning. Well, just to the grass so far, but it's only a matter of (probably short) time.

Finding tires was a bit of a problem, this time. We have a '79 Custom Cruiser station wagon, and the size tires it takes are pretty much only made for trucks any more. Those will work, of course, and probably last longer, but the ride isn't as good, so we want to stick with car tires as long as we can.

And I got the heating oil tank filled today, so at the moment we're doing pretty well.

And speaking of snow. Britain is getting a Blizzard with most places experiancing temperatures lower then in Moscow.

The UK was plunged into a freezing snap as an Arctic weather front swept in, blanketing parts of Scotland and northern England in snow, and leaving some areas colder than Moscow.

Forecasters said the east was set to be worst hit.

No, the aerial and satellite images of the former VP show that he has not expanded that far and that he is still limited only to the continental US - though he is expected to grow in the coming year-by how much remains uncertain.

No, the aerial and satellite images of the former VP show that he has not expanded that far and that he is still limited only to the continental US - though he is expected to grow in the coming year-by how much remains uncertain.

I have this feeling that returning vets who are ok to run a computer may be great candidates for the kind of remote piloting they do from the U.S. to UAVs worldwide. You guys would know what's happening on the ground and how to help the most with the UAVs. Also, NV and NM are excellent places to raise families... I'm thinking of talking to the Holloman group about it... any feedback?

I read about it in our local paper because the Holloman set-up is new. But if the returning vet idea is a crummy one (based on the opinion of someone such as yourself!) then I wouldn't bring it up. I also talked to some blue star mothers (and I think fathers) about having a "mentorship" set up for kids going in so that if they come back injured, someone like an aerospace engineering facility (or whatever) works with them to get their tickets and to get working in whatever type of assignment works best for them. They wanted me to go talk to one of their meetings about it, but I don't feel qualified. I've worked a lot with science and technology (and aerospace and manufacturing) type companies, and I think it would work well, but I'm not trained in the occupational therapy field.

Eliot, like any and all great poets, was beyond classification in terms of left and right. The guy was documenting the collapse and disintegration of the West, noting its with profound, beautiful sadness; I don't think the left were much in favor of that sort of output, then or now.

The V-22 Osprey plant outside Philly is shut down UH-GAIN because a disgruntled worker sabotaged a fuel line on one of the planes being assembled. Second time in less than a year. Last time production was halted, some clown cut a bunch of wires on a helicopter being built.

The owner of a Maine store has sparked intense local and national outcry over a sign that invited customers to bet on a date when President-elect Barack Obama would be assassinated, but authorities say no charges are planned{ed: For good reason}.

After the post-election incident in Standish, Maine, town officials were bombarded with angry e-mails from around the country. And on Friday, hundreds gathered at a "Rally Against Hate" in Portland to denounce the racially charged sign and to appeal for unity, the Portland Press Herald reported.

Cumberland County Sheriff Mark Dion said Friday that Steve Collins, owner of Oak Hill General Store, denied any knowledge of the "Osama Obama Shotgun Pool" sign. The sheriff added that the sign was nowhere to be found when a deputy visited the store to investigate a report of it on Nov. 7.

I know this will probably create a cascade effect of "down-dings", but I'm not a big fan of the "Dings".
I'm not sure how seriously people actually take them (I'm a relative newbie) but I have certainly discerned a pattern among the people who post that they have "dinged" someone up or down. It strikes me (often, not always) that people do the ding-a-ling thing when they want to buttress their own position as stated by someone else. Maybe that's the purpose of the whole exercise, I don't know.
If the guy who runs this site (Charles, right?) is using it for his own purposes then it makes sense. If it's a tool for the "popular kids" to get even more acclaim than they get for whatever made them popular then it's just a lamer (who thought THAT was possible?) version of "American Idol".

It's raining here and gas is still over $3.30 a gal. Business is slowww. Played Wii with my family last night instead of watching TV. It was wonderful. Got a new hot air popcorn popper so gonna do a movie tonite. Life is good.

Whether there's a real basis for them or not, some folks hold on to grudges or perceived slights and feed and grow them.

Remember junior high? Sometimes commenting is like that.

Other times, you find yourself wondering where all these amazing people came from.

I hadn't paid any attention to dings until I happened to notice on my profile that I had over 60. I plan on investing them and if I play my cards right, in 7 years at 10% I'll have over 120!
