The original source is a British tabloid, so consider it questionable: Report: Pop star Michael Jackson converts to Islam.

The American singer Michael Jackson has converted to Islam, the Sun newspaper reported over the weekend.

The 50-year-old pop star, who changed his name to Mikaeel, pledged allegiance to the Koran at a friend’s house in Los Angeles. An Imam was summoned from a nearby mosque to hold the shahada, the declaration of belief in Allah and Mohammed’s prophecy.

An associate said that Jackson chose his new name, which is the name of one of Allah’s angels, after rejecting another Muslim name, Mustafa, which means “the chosen one.”

Oh, come on now.

That's just too much.

Well, Mikaeel is Michael, so I guess it's just as well.

It might for those who think he's okay.

9 Macker  Sun, Nov 23, 2008 2:56:58pm

If this really is true (and I think it IS)...then it's a good thing that self-made mutant now identifies himself with that group, like his brother did in 1989. They can keep him!

12 Dayenu  Sun, Nov 23, 2008 2:58:25pm

Of course. Pedophiles are ok in Islam. It's homosexuals who are evil.

Hmmm, kinda the opposite of what we have in America.

Now where do the transgendered stand?

re: #4 _RememberTonyC

Speaking of the devil...

A link between terrorism plots and hardcore child pornography is becoming clear after a string of police raids in Britain and across the Continent, an investigation by The Times has discovered. Images of child abuse have been found during Scotland Yard antiterrorism swoops and in big inquiries in Italy and Spain.

Secret coded messages are being embedded into child pornographic images, and paedophile websites are being exploited as a secure way of passing information between terrorists.

British security services are also aware of the trend and believe that it requires further investigation to improve understanding of terrorists’ methods and mindsets. Concerns within the Metropolitan Police led to a plan to run a pilot research project exploring the nature of the link. One source familiar with the proposal said that this could eventually lead to the training of child welfare experts to identify signs of terrorist involvement as they monitor pornographic sites.

The 50-year old pop-star, who first morphed from being a poor black kid into being a rich white woman, has now changed his name from "Michael" to "Mikaeel". No one is sure whether he will wear a burqa or merely the hijab.

Ok, that was awful, completely uncalled for and out of line, I will now give myself many lashes with a wet noodle.

18 Outrider  Sun, Nov 23, 2008 3:00:32pm
...He was joined for celebration by British singer Yousef Islam, 60, who was called Cat Stevens until he famously converted. However, Jacko is currently faced with charges against him by Sheikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, second son of the King of Bahrain. Reportedly Sheikh Abdulla had lend 7 million dollars to the singer after he faced the child molestation trial.

Maybe this is why he converted? Or am I being cynical again? link

19 Pigtown Water Dog  Sun, Nov 23, 2008 3:00:40pm

Oh, for pity's sake. Exchange one Neverland for another--Mikaeel's such a [deleted].

20 Wilderstad  Sun, Nov 23, 2008 3:00:53pm

Wouldn't be a suprise. His brother Jermaine converted ( reverted ) and I'm sure has been putting the whole Medinan Koranic verses out there and completely omitted the jihad, antisemitism, racism, sexism and hatred of the infidel. Wonder if it'll make the lawsuit from the Baharaini sheik go away?

21 MandyManners  Sun, Nov 23, 2008 3:01:09pm

Will he have to give up all his money that he made making all that un-Islamic music?

Islamist: "...and so that pretty much sums it up. Prepare to die."

Mikaeel: "No, fellas. You must not have heard. I'm Muslim, now."

Islamist: "Oh, we're not killing you because you're an infidel. Or because of the questionable sex practices. Or the androgynous appearance. We're killing you because of HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I. I mean seriously. You can't call it 'Book I' if there's no 'Book II,' dude."

25 Salem  Sun, Nov 23, 2008 3:02:40pm

It's nice to know he balked at being named "The Chosen One", at least.

Anyone can convert to Islam, but that doesn't mean you'll be accepted or not marked for death by other Muslims. Most Muslims will probably give him a wide berth.

26 Sharmuta  Sun, Nov 23, 2008 3:02:45pm

Indeed! Now when he molests children, it will be holy and not criminal.

Jackson also noted he intends to soon move all his assets and his studio from the U.S. to Bahrain, and expressed his hope to be rid of various legal troubles and enjoy the kind of freedom he says he does not have in America.
Notably, if the reports are correct Jackson would not be the first member of his family to make the move to Islam. His brother, Jermaine, who moved to the Gulf nation of Dubai, is also a convert.

Funny! Enjoy the freedom he doesn't have in the USA?

36 razorbacker  Sun, Nov 23, 2008 3:06:13pm

Well, that's a shame. I haven't heard about Michael in a long, long time. Last I heard, Michael was going to buy Oaklawn (Horse) Racetrack along with Tayna Harding.

Tayna planned to do the handicapping, while Michael was interested in riding the three-year-olds.

But this will prolly work out better.

LONDON -- Michael Jackson may be too ill to travel to London to testify in a suit which claims he owes an Arab sheikh $7 million, the pop star's lawyer said Tuesday.

Sheikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the second son of the king of Bahrain, claims that Jackson reneged on a contract for an album, a candid autobiography and a stage play, after accepting millions from the sheikh

You feel you're not wanted anywhere

Yes, but if I recall how that played out - she made a very feeble attempt to get them back. I remember wondering at the time whether someone was "behind" her in that attempt - in other words, the attempt was not, really, from any feeling she had for the kids, but from someone else wanting to "get" Michael.

Code Pink goes to Iran...
Code Pink, Ahmadinejad, Peace Delegation to Iran

Ahmadinejad came to America recently and met for TWO HOURS with a bunch of American peace groups. Code Pink asked to be allowed to go to Iran and meet with people there and Ahmadinejad said YES (and mentioned he'd like for Iranian peace groups to be allowed into the US for the same reason). So Code Pink folks are there RIGHT NOW working for peace.
...

He also used the opportunity to tell us that - I believe - 60% of the energy used in Iran is sustainable - the majority is water and they have solar and wind. They are developing that more and he has a commitment to that but he also wanted the freedom to develop nuclear power.
...
The CODEPINK women proposed inviting American and Iranian artists to build a "peace park" in Tehran, a memorial dedicated to people-to-people commitment to peace and diplomacy between our two countries.

They also proposed a plan to invest funds in an Iranian business, one that produces green and sustainable products, such as bicycles. This grassroots investment would be the opposite of efforts by the Bush administration and Congress to tighten sanctions, a move which CODEPINK thinks would only hurt ordinary, everyday Iranians. Such a symbolic CODEPINK investment in a green, sustainable business would challenge U.S. regulations blocking trade with Iran and would show how diplomacy and trade are preferable to war and sanctions.

Surrogacy is one thing (paying the woman for her medical costs and some small amt of $ ) but from some of the posts here I gather that the 'mother' was paid handsomely -- which sounds like the kids themselves were bought and paid for. But do I really know? No. And surrogate mothers may indeed be paid for the kids they carry, for all I really know. Sort of. As of Aug. 28, 2009, I can file an affidavit stating that we've lived apart for two years, to which he'll have 20 days to respond. The financial settlement will be the challenging part; I know he's going to make things difficult--he just doesn't deal with things. Sort of. As of Aug. 28, 2009, I can file an affidavit stating that we've lived apart for two years, to which he'll have 20 days to respond. The financial settlement will be the challenging part; I know he's going to make things difficult--he just doesn't deal with things. As long as I continue to get the court-ordered support I currently do, I don't really care.

If he refuses to agree, won't the court just order whatever it deems fair?

Look way down the page for the "undetermined former religion" section, it is the largest...probably contains more celebs than converts from Christianity or Judaism for example.

So sad when a good gangsta rapper turns to something destructive like Islam.

Some people are so controlling that they really are tyrants in their own little world. Used to know a woman whose house was like a damn museum, everything perfectly placed, no dust, no evidence of anyone actually living in the house. But that's one of the reasons Micky was disfellowshipped from the Witnesses. There is a strong patriarchal element to the sect, and from the word I got, passed through the congregations, is that he was trying to go against his fathers wishes.

Now, his fathers wishes may have been wrong, but the father in A Witness family is the head, and it's hard to buck that. Even the elders will tend to side with the male adult.

What if he's beating his kids and his wife? That's okay?

One of the wise things my lawyers said to me is, "There's nothing you, I, or the courts can do to make him a better father."

*sigh* This is one of those where I feel some guilt over. I know I don't bear any responsibility. But, they are part of our church family. I one of those guys that feels when kids are part of the picture a guy doesn't walk out because he's tired of the whole thing. An abusive or unfaithful spouse is one thing. He brought kids into this world, he needs to be there to raise them. It's selfish not to.

There would have to be two adult witnesses (male or female) to the beating (or what ever infractions) before the elders could have a case against his father.

The Witnesses congregational laws are a mixture of Hebrew scriptural laws and some of the early laws set down by mainly Paul.

Some people are so controlling that they really are tyrants in their own little world. Used to know a woman whose house was like a damn museum, everything perfectly placed, no dust, no evidence of anyone actually living in the house. Her kids had to spend the days outside and were allowed inside essentially to eat, bathe and sleep. Serious control issues. Her three kids all turned out to be little hoodlums because they were not really allowed to BE kids. Terrible shame, too.

One hates to wonder, but wonder I do, how on earth she engaged in the fabulously messy business that led to her multiple impregnations.

I'd never heard of it, but you're apparently right. Judging from the Wikipedia description of "Ben", I don't think I want to:

A lonely boy befriends the rat that leads the swarm of trained/telepathic rats found in Willard. This rat, whom the boy names Ben, becomes the boy's best friend and keeps his spirits up in the face of bullying. However, the balance of power between the human and rat begins to shift, with Ben beginning to control the boy and the swarm becoming increasingly irrational and violent. Eventually, the police destroy part of the rat colony, while others are sent to testing labs but Ben survives.

Well, with me that's a given. I don't allow stage mothers or fathers in our theatre. That's a sickness.

You should have seen the 12 year old, playing a 9 year old in our last production "Summertree." He goes the the Denver School of the Arts and his dad or mom would drop him off for rehearsals, and picked him up later.

On performance nights, they did the same thing. It was not that they didn't support him, but they treated him as a professional and let him do his job.

And yes, the kid appears to be quite stabe and normal to me. And a great talent.

You should know, theatre (and to a little lessor extend, movie making) is a tribal affair. And it takes cooperation along with creativeness to mount a production.

Ego's HAVE to be left at the door. If you know anything, you know a successful theatre is one where everyone works as an ensemble and there are no real stars. The audience can have their "stars" but that's for after the show, not while you are working.

I am immediately skeptical about the strength of someone's analysis -- here, a lawyer no less -- when he confuses rights with power. The state has powers; people have rights. Police, as state actors, don't have the "right" to do anything. They either have the "power" to do something or they do not.

WTF?

Newark cop arrests TV camera man (video)

From where I come from that cop would be in deep doo doo.

1) Arrest for no PC (probably cause) journalist are granted wider latitude than the general public, and filming a public demonstration on public thoroughfares is definitely not PC.

2) Excessive use of force, a choke hold after a suspect is in custody (cuffs) is unless the person is still resisting, which the photog was not is most certainly over the line.

3) Abuse of authority, LE is required to not abuse their authority, but operate at all times within reasonable guidelines.

I'm a big supporter of LE and will give them the benefit of the doubt in most cases. From that video this one is pretty clearly over the line, unless more info comes forward.

Think the cops are a bit sensitive about the murder rate on there turf?

That's my take away.

I know in Seattle the Chief of Police and City Clowncil do not support the cops. When they go out and proactively enforce the laws where the worst crime is *cough* *ahem* in black *cough* neighbor hoods, the NCAAP gets all up in arms about racism, and the Clowncil rolls over.

As a result we're getting more and more shootings (5 in last week and an half or so) in those areas, and the cops are a bit sensitive about the bind they are in.

Even that one was over the line.

The King of Bahrain's son, Sheikh Abdulla Bin Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa, was suing Jackson for £4.7m, claiming he reneged on a music contract."

Are they Sears Craftman tools? Lifetime guaranty and all...

They use a lot of Proto tools, because you can get finishes that don't offgas hazardous materials. Most Craftsman tools would have to be stripped and refinished. It happened on the Intelsat VI recovery (sorry, I do not recall the STS number); at the last minute, Boeing "remembered" that there was an extra fiberglass antenna on the satellite that would keep it from fitting into the recovery cradle. The mission boys went to a Sears Hardware on Bay Area Blvd. in Webster and bought a bolt cutter. The grips and finish were removed, it was isgned off, blessed, and sent to Kennedy to go in the mission kit so the spacewalker could lop off the offending antenna.

We should've seen it by the time he recorded "Ben", though. Who writes a pop song dedicated to their pet mouse?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't "Ben" recorded as a title tune to a movie of that name? Hence he wrote the song to reflect the theme of the movie?

I can't believe I'm actually defending the weirdo. For that matter, was it ever really proven that MJ actually had sexual relations with those kids? IIRC, he claimed that all he ever did was sleep with and cuddle them, and given the fact that he was clearly deprived of a normal childhood, that's just weird enough to be possible.

If in fact, he is a pedophile, he's certainly found his spiritual home, now.

He had been due to travel to the UK to give evidence at the High Court.
A spokesman said his legal team told him to postpone the trip as the parties had made an agreement in principle.
The King of Bahrain's son, Sheikh Abdulla Bin Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa, was suing Jackson for £4.7m, claiming he reneged on a music contract."

So, is it just a coincidence that at the same time Jackson "becomes a Muslim" and the King of Bahrain's son drops his multi-million dollar case against him? Or is there a link?

The infamous 500 dollar hammer is an urban myth. It's a long story, but let's just say if you ask a company to make new tail assemblies for a plane that has been out of production for 10 years, and the rule is that the profit margin (6%) be spread equally among all the parts, you get and "expensive" hammer.

Please don't start me on the expensive toilet.

International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People

The General Assembly designated 29 November as the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People in its resolution 32/40 B of 2 December 1977 (A/RES/32/40 B).

The date of 29 November was chosen because on that day in 1947, the General Assembly adopted resolution 181 (II), known as the Partition Resolution, which provided for the establishment in Palestine of a “Jewish State” and an “Arab State,” with Jerusalem as a corpus separatum (separated body) under a special international regime

Fast, Rich, Fattening Banana Pudding

1 1/2 cups water
1 large box instant vanilla pudding mix
1 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk
1 8 oz. container of whipped topping
6 bananas
1 box vanilla wafers

Mix water, pudding, and sweetened condensed milk in a lage bowl Refrigerate for 30 minutes. Add 1/2 of the whipped topping to the mixture and stir thoroughly. In a serving dish (I use a 9 x13 glass pan), layer vanilla wafers and three bananas (sliced). Spread 1/2 of pudding mixture. Add another layer of cookies and banana slices and the remaining pudding mixture. Top with remaining whipped topping if desired. Chill and serve.

My mom has started making this with Pepperidge Farm Chess Men cookies instead of Nilla Wafers. It brings a great desert into an even higher level of Win.

There was something that I ran across from some other research I was doing that has disturbed me since I found it and don't know what to thing about it. Would like any feed back anyone is willing to offer. My gut tells me this is a hoax, but the .org sites have me confused.

[Link: www.fdrs.org...]

[Link: www.publiceye.org...]

[Link: uweb.txstate.edu...]

The plan called for the suspension of the Constitution, turning control of the government over to FEMA, appointment of military commanders to run state and local governments and the declaration of Martial Law. The Presidential Executive Orders to support such a plan were already in place. The plan also advocated the rounding up and transfer to "assembly centers or relocation camps" of a least 21 million American Negroes in the event of massive rioting or disorder, not unlike the rounding up of the Jews in Nazi Germany in the 1930s.

-break

The most shining example of America to the world has been its peaceful transition of government from one administration to another. Despite crises of great magnitude, the United States has maintained its freedom and liberty. This nation now stands on the threshold of rule by non-elected people asserting non-Constitutional powers. Even Congress cannot review a Martial Law action until six months after it has been declared. For the first time in American history, the reigns of government would not be transferred from one elected element to another, but the Constitution, itself, can be suspended. The scenarios established to trigger FEMA into action are generally found in the society today: economic collapse, civil unrest, drug problems, terrorist attacks, and protests against American intervention in a foreign country. All these premises exist, it could only be a matter of time in which one of these triggers the entire emergency necessary to bring FEMA into action, and then it may be too late, because under the FEMA plan, there is no contingency by which Constitutional power is restored.

-break
All I know is I don't want FEMA in charge of ANYTHING.

I work in a warehouse that did material handling equipment. Valves, piping, measurement stuff.

Take two valves, exact same pressure, volume and temperature specs, one for a oil refinery one for a nuclear plant. The one for the nuc plant would easily cost 5 to 6x the other one. The nuc plant one would be pulled off the the line, tested and retested, xray, and analyized. Then it's file would tag along and a chain of custody provided so it could be proved that valve hadn't been swapped with another one.

Because, the agency you bill probably have a rate chart of what they will pay. And so, even though your company can do it for less, they bill according to that rate chart.

My neighbor asked me to help her file for unemployment: she has no internet access and she said that she has been trying their phone # for a week with no luck.
I have been trying to get her signed up via their inline registration since 2pm. I still haven't gotten through. I am VERY ticked for my friend, this is as bad a system as I have ever seen.

Always! Hence, my post here. I don't want to get beat up for it. Like state before, I was hesitant of it to begin with. I am a very trusting person and I tend to take things a face value - a lesson I am learning to question - from reading and learning here.

Because, the agency you bill probably have a rate chart of what they will pay. And so, even though your company can do it for less, they bill according to that rate chart.

A copy of our invoice to the compnay that we were subbing for goes to the government agency they were billing. All I can say is it is coming out of our taxes and it is totaly pissing me off.

I hear you, Dolphin, but this is state unemployment. It seems if they have it coming to them by the laws if the state then they should at LEAST have enough servers to handle the load. She has another friend who has been trying to reach them via phone for 2 weeks. I can at least help get him the one piece of paper that they MUST have before they go to the office for a face to face meeting. I told her to bring him over too.

re: #541 jcm

And I am not down on FEMA except for the fact that they have tied our hands. FEMA says check with insurance - which insurance? Home owners or the state mandated flood and wind (hurricane) and the run around that is going on. We were without power for seven days and were completely prepared. Ran generator, AC etc. and lived life fine (except for cold showers), we did everything right as far as preparedness goes and supported four additional people in this house (along with neighbors), with the exception that we did not have enough gas containers to hold gas and we did not get cash before the storm hit. We had also been preparing since Katrina, a little bit at a time.

Instead of FEMA support after the storm, why not pre-emptive on getting generators to the gas stations so they can pump the gas that is already there in their holding tanks?
FEMA is a government run agency - enough said.

Disagree completely. Most here in Houston and surrounding areas, like Alabama and Mississippi after Katrina have relied on the community and their friend to move above and beyond - not easy, but it is what we do. We don't need the government to help us out - for the most part they are more of a hindrance than help. Kind of like the term - Let's roll!

You are 100% correct.

Actually, the state Wildlife & Fisheries was in N.O. in boats rescuing people virtually immediately, and they worked 16-hour shifts 7-days a week for a month. But there is only so much those 300 folks could do by themselves.

The big fail was indeed Nagin & Blanco.

This is what Jindal did immediately after Gustav. Not FEMA. The state gov't bought generators, loaned to the gas stations to pump the gas. Lines very quickly diminished, and those of us (like me) who had full tanks before the storm never had to sit in a line.

I understand your frustration, and yes the bureaucracy muddles things up.

FEMA can't really do anything before hand, for a variety of reasons from federal law to bureaucratic. For that to change, it will literally take an act of congress.
