Holy Land Foundation Verdict: Guilty on All Counts

US News | Mon, Nov 24, 2008 at 1:15:39 pm PST

After the first disaster of a trial, this news comes as a pleasant surprise: Holy Land Foundation defendants guilty on all counts.

A jury on Monday sided with the prosecution in the Holy Land Foundation trial, determining unanimously on more than two dozen counts that the defendants were guilty of charges related to the financing of the terrorist group Hamas.

The verdicts were read Monday afternoon.

Members of the formerly Richardson-based Holy Land are accused of funneling $12 million to Hamas after the Palestinian group had been designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S. in 1995.

It took the jury eight days of deliberations to reach its decisions – less than half the time it took jurors to deadlock end up with an almost complete mistrial last year on the first go-around.

Opening statements at the Earle Cabell Federal Courthouse in downtown Dallas began Sept. 22. Over the past two months, prosecutors attempted to prove that five former charity organizers used Holy Land, once the largest Muslim charity in the U.S., to funnel an estimated $60 million to the militant group – most of it before 1995.

Defense attorneys argued that the foundation was a legitimate, non-political charity that helped distressed Palestinians under Israeli occupation. They accused the government of bending to Israeli pressure to prosecute the charity, and of relying on old evidence predating the 1995 designation.

Good to know the Zionist Control argument didn't work.

"I suspect that they will be viewed much the same way that Mandela was viewed by the black South African population – as freedom fighters who have dedicated their lives to the liberation of Palestine," William Moffitt, the Virginia defense attorney who represented two former university professors, Abdelhaleem Ashqar and Sami Al-Arian, said before the Holy Land verdicts.

Mr. Moffit says:

"I think that the purpose of these trials was to further, in the minds of the public, the so-called ‘war on terrorism,'" he said. "There are legitimate terrorist organizations out there. But we've tried to make every group that doesn't agree with us like al-Qaeda."

I think Mr. Moffitt missed his calling, he was born to be a P.R. guy.

Lastly, did anyone read the comments attached to the article? Seems a Terrorist supporter turns up at any news of the Phakestinians, with the same tired arguments of deflection and 1/2 truths.

From the article...

"My dad is not a criminal!" sobbed one courtroom observer after the verdicts were read. "He's a human!"

Maybe it's cultural, the way this statement is phrased, but what the fuck does that mean? It seems some of these questionable Muslims are so ready to play the "human rights" card anytime they are in the sling, but when they are holding the upper hand, human rights don't stand a chance.

My answer, big fucking boo-hoo.

A jury on Monday determined that the Holy Land Foundation and five men who worked with the Muslim charity were guilty of three dozen counts related to the illegal funneling of at least $12 million to the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas.

The unanimous verdicts are a complete victory for the government, which streamlined its case after a mistrial last year, and worked hard to carefully educate jurors on the complex, massive evidence presented in the trial. Guilty verdicts were read on 108 separate charges.

These are the lead two of paragraphs of the article. Sounds pretty straightforward and factually written to me. If anything, the tone taken is sympathetic to the government. Imagine if it had been Al R'trs:

A jury on Monday determined held that the Holy Land Foundation and five men who worked with the Muslim charity were guilty of three dozen counts related to the allegedly illegal funneling of at least $12 million to the Palestinian terrorist activist group Hamas.

The unanimous verdicts are a complete rare victory for the government, which streamlined reframed its case after a mistrial last year, and worked hard to carefully educate persuade jurors on the complex, massive circumstantial evidence presented in the trial. Guilty verdicts were read on 108 separate overlapping charges.

Yeah. I don't think people had really thought through the implications of an Obama Administration until it actually happened. Now everybody is freaking out. There is some of that that is justified. I will be flat out shocked if the Democrats don't try to reauthorize the "assault weapons" ban in some form or other.

OTOH, it isn't like imports have shot up dramatically since it expired in 2004. The only relatively new or unique things that I've seen were from FN, but they were high dollar for a weapon that I'm not particularly enamored with (the little PDW thing that feeds from the top; I can't recall what it is called). Sig has started importing a new gun. I know where I could pick up one of them for under $1600 taxes and all.

If I could afford it, I'd either pick that one up or Sig has a short-barreled pistol version of the same rifle. .223 is a hell of a handgun round. That's mostly just a toy, but it is a nice toy.

Kaixo!

It's GREAT to see a small victory against the Stealth Jihad. The "Holy Land Foundation" is indeed a terrorist organization, since it provides aid (to the tune of 12 mill $$+) to Hamas, which is dedicated to destroying Israel and all of the Kuffars in the region, including men, women, children. Every member of the miserable "Foundation" should be locked up for the maximum 15 to 20 years. Now I want to see similar action taken against CAIR and members of the Muslim Brotherhood, Islamic Society of North America, the Muslim Students Association, the North American Islamic Trust, the Islamic Circle of North America, and other such "peaceful "Islamic" organizations. Does the name "Sami Al-Arian" ring any bells?
It was really eye-opening to read that nearly 15 boxes of evidence were wheeled into court on a flatbed. Also it took the U.S. District Judge Jorge A. Solis over an hour to read aloud the indictment.
I recommend that everyone read "THEY MUST BE STOPPED" by Brigitte Gabriel. She has founded "ACT! for America", the largest grass roots organization in the U.S. dedicated to the fight against radical Islam, and her book details the serious threat to our freedom from both terrorism and Stealth Jihad.
Incidentally, are all aware that 17 Chinese Muslim terrorists presently detained at "Club Gitmo" have been ordered to be released? They can't be released to Communist China, because they might be tortured, but nobody else wants them. I say, let them try their luck in the Chicom prison system!

Agur!
