Let us pray for the victims of terrorism throughout the world, and those who stand between the terrorists and their objectives.
We Americans have a lot to be thankful for... more than 7 years and no more terrorist attacks on our soil. The Indians, Pakitanis, British, Afghans, Iraqis, Israeli, Spanish and Indonesians... well they can't say the same thing.

If you're hitting the mall tomorrow, don't forget to pick up a copy of this new book for the kiddies, out just in time for Christmas The Winter Holidays : "Mama Voted for Obama!".

From the same author who brought you "Why Mommy is a Democrat"
and "Why Daddy is a Democrat", this book is sure to become a treasured classic.

Turkey, stuffing (cornbread, biscuits, onions and celery), giblet gravy (turkey stock, giblets and boiled eggs), corn (sweet and tender cut off the cob in September and cooked with lotsa' buttah), mashed taters, steamed broccoli, Mamaw beans (Navy and pinto beans cooked with ham hock in the crock pot all day), homemade cranberry relish, rolls, tossed salad and a platter of green olives, ripe olives and gherkins. I remember as school kids doing Thanksgiving dress up as Pilgrims and Indians.
We didn't dress up as the turkey or other food, just pretended paper cutouts were them.
We had a lot of fun.
Todays schools try every way they can to deny teaching the reason the Pilgrims came to America.

My little (4'9", 85 pounds) neighbor drove up. She's all camo-ed out and toting a gun about as long as she is (but don't laugh, she's a hell of a shot). I'd call her a Filipino-American, but she doesn't. She says that she's American. Period.

Asked if she could sit in my deer stand, since I'm not there today. Why? "Cause I want to kill one of your big deer."

"But, Darling, they're the same deer that walk through your place."

"Oh, no. I never see one as big as that one you shot."

Fine. Go ahead and good luck. Frankly, it seems totally American to spend Thanksgiving doing what you love to do.

I am not thankful that some woman from Medco Center of Henderson nursing home seems to think that I am her "honey" and calls all the time as early as three AM as she is in Kentucky and I am in Oregon.

I am not thankful that every time I try to reach Medco Center of Henderson for the past 2 years my call is answered by a very age addled client rather than a staff member no matter what number I call.

I would be thankful if someone in Kentucky would cut the lines and blow the cell towers around Medco Center of Henderson so never have to get up at 3am to tell this woman I am not the "Honey" she is looking for.

At least Thanksgiving is a 9am my time this year. For this I am thankful.

Mandy, seeing that you are a true blue cook, I'd like to share my recipe for Brussels Sprouts w/you:

As many Brussels S.s as you like
Italian bacon (Pancetta) cut into smallish pieces
Real Maple Syrup
Olive oil
Rosemary
Salt and cracked pepper

Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees
Cut the tough end off the B. sprouts, wash them and toss in a pot for steaming.
Steam very quickly/ just until green gets bright
Meanwhile cook the Pancetta until done (not too browned)
Place the b/sprouts into a large enough bowl and toss w/a little olive oil, salt pepper, and a drizzle or 2 of maple syrup. Add the pancetta and toss again. Put in a baking dish and roast until the tops of the sprouts are crisped (depending on how your oven works, about 20 mins or so).

Even people who cannot bear Brussles Sprouts have converted after trying this dish. Oh, for vegetarians or non ham eaters, you can substitute fresh pecans for the bacon. Yummy.

Happy Thanksgiving.

I'm very grateful for this day with my beloved family and for my LGF family too. Thanks Charles.

Saw a brilliant idea from RWE on the Belmont Club. India responds by fully joining the GWOT, moves 20,000 troops into Afghanistan. Pakistan moves troops into the tribal areas to face the new Indian army positions. The Taliban and their allies are double screwed by having more not less force on their backsides.

1. how do the troops get into the Stan, since the Paks won't let them in?

2. how do we resupply them when Pakistan cuts off the overland supply route if we *do* find a way to fly them in?

re: #101 Daisy

Oh, that sounds just delicious! I've printed it out. Can't wait to try it. (The Kid LOOOVES Brussel sprouts.)

table talk will be interesting as they all have their say.

while the kids quietly text, "this is a groan".

If the US Airforce (with a little help from the RAF!) could keep a whole city alive (Berlin, 1948), then this should be no problem in 2008 ...

which country do you suppose is going to give overflight rights? (hint: none of them *have* to give permission)

where is all this airlift capacity going to come from? which other airlift taskings currently serviced by said airlift capacity can we do without in order to accomplish your tasking?

do you have any idea what the cube and weight of the minimum supplies required to keep a force of 20,000 soldiers in combat is? is that volume capable of being transported by the available airframes?

are the fields at the receiving end capable of handling said volume? how are you going to distribute these supplies to where you actually need them? do you have that infrastructure and it's required supplies in place?

Dad said that you could either pull the damned wagon, or ride on the damned wagon, but you couldn't get in the damned wagon's way or you'd get run over.

Desert is home-made pumpkin pie with whipped cream.

Mandy, you'll end up looking like Bailey after she required stomach staples.

re: #179 yma o hyd

Heh - details, mere details!

No - I think if one's prepared to think laterally, suggesting to ahve the Indian Army in Afghanistan, then one must also think laterally in regard to supplying said force. I am convinced that such clever minds can be found in both your and our Armed Forces - if there is a will!

to quote Guderian:
"Before the first shot is fired, the quartermaster has already decided the outcome of the battle."
"Logistics is the ball and chain of armored warfare." (all warfare, actually)

amateurs study tactics. professionals study logistics.

at first glance it's a great idea, but all Pakistan has to do to defeat it is close the harbor and the roads we use to supply the Stan, and we're screwed. that's why Juggy's plan to attack the Tribal Areas is doomed to failure, and why you're unlikely to ever hear him mention it again.

CNN appears to have refused to post my comment because I pointed out that Islam has no contemplative or meditative aspect, but is entirely worldly, and that there is no historical precedence for the 'inner struggle' definition of jihad.

There are many strains of Islam, sufis, dervishes, smaller obscure groups with long history and all sorts of traditions. BUt the mainlines of their 1500 year history, and a trillion dollars of Saudi money, are fundamentalist and violent.

Happy Thanksgiving Lizards! I hope you all have many things to be thankful for today, and that you all have a great time with your friends and family.

Sooo... I'm watching the news last night, and they did a segment where they asked a bunch of celebrities what they are thankful for this holiday season. Of course, about 80% of them had to make it political. Specifically, gushing all about HopenChangeTM.

And what is Snoop Dogg thankful for, you ask? That so many of his friends and family are alive and well. Sounds to me like Snoop has a better handle on Thanksgiving than most celebrities.

I did a bit of study on the Sufis. They are violent haters equal to the rest. While they have successfully white-washed their actual teachings through analogy with more comptemplative religions, there actual beliefs regarding the killing, rape and enslavement of those that disagree with them are more instructive.

That being said, there are some very small schools of Islam that are more tolerant than the dominating Sunni and Shiia.

Enjoy Thanksgiving, dearest Lizards.

And an extra big THANK YOU to you, dear Charles, for laboring so fruitfully over this site. I, and others, appreciate you.

Every thanksgiving I round up the singles in my area and invite them to our meal. As my boys, and college girls banter with the singles, I enjoy sitting back, for once, and simply reveling in the ambiance. Thus, thanksgiving.

I'm unfamiliar with some of Mandy's foods, a confession. Here, I serve broccoli with a white sauce, baked potatoes, a pretty loaf of bread that looks braided, turkey, cranberries cooked in sugar, lots of wine for the singles and mulled cidar for the kids. Simple, huh? Oh, the turkey is stuffed with bread, spices, onions and celery -- also simple.

We all have much to be thankful for, Lizards.

The local am station has Beck, Rush, Sean, Sportstalk (aka 'What the hell is wrong with the Razorbacks this year") then I think O'Really and Ron Reagan. I'm not sure about the last two, because after sunset the reception craps out.

But for real talk radio you have to have 'Coast to Coast'. Marvelous. Delicious. Just tear a hole in the top of your tinfoil hat and let the lunacy pour right in.

Rommel's "Infantry Attacks" is also an interesting read... i should dig out my copy and read it again too.

I'm thinking of getting this book, soon ...

Here's the description:
"In the Second World War, Great Britain, the United States and Germany each produced one land force commander who stood out from the rest: Bernard Montgomery, George Patton and Erwin Rommel. These three armour-plated egos were the greatest generals of the war, and theirs was a very personal contest: the clash of mighty armies perceived as a bout between three men. All three were arrogant and flawed, yet with a genius for the command of men and an unrivalled enthusiasm for combat. All had spectacular success on the battlefield. But their explosive relationships with each other and with their political masters rivalled the pyrotechnics of their tank battles in determining the conduct and outcome of the war. Masters of Battle presents the Second World War as it was experienced by its three most flamboyant, controversial and influential commanders."

Sounds good to me ...

I was asking a 40-something guy at work yesterday, if he was familiar with it, nyetski, so I gave him the synopsis. "Oh, 60's thing" he said. OK, mebbe so. I'm old enuf to both remember it and resonate with it, and that includes a folk singer plucking an acoustic guitar.

I can cook just about anything animal or vegetable properly on range, grill and oven. But...

Sauces and spices are the difference between my cooking, and excellent cooking. However, I'm not yet 50, so I still I have time to learn how to do it right.

If I may suggest a cookbook, The Joy Of Cooking. It is the bible of cookbooks. I have my grandmothers first edition, which is the best, but, I also have the newer edition, written by the grandson of the original authors. If my house caught fire, I would grab those two books first.

Yes, dangit I just realize I left the CD at home, unless it's in the car ... hey, it is! Great!

Actually, I'd forgotten about it, until one Thanksgiving about fifteen years ago, DJ Jed the Fish (I think) on KROQ, played the whole thing during prime time.

KLOS played it last night for the 5 o'clock funnies, and undoubtedly they'll play it again today, prolly at lunch.

Happy Thanksgiving, all!

Just a quick reminder that Saturday is Red and Blue day. On November 29, 1944, the first Blalock-Taussig Shunt was performed... the first heart surgery designed to relieve the effects of a Congenital Heart Defect. The operation changed a cyanotic child (skin appears to have a bluish tinge because of low blood oxygen) to a healthy shade of pink.

To celebrate the anniversary, those of us with a heart defect are wearing Red and Blue this Saturday, and we're asking our family and friends to do the same. I'd really appreciate it if my friends in the Lizard Nation wore our colors.

Back again, laundry is in the dyer. I had Thanksgiving yesterday and last night, at my girlfriends, since she has to work today. I was watching all that stiff happening in India. Tragic.

What was driving me crazy was how they kept harping how Obama was right on top of things, and on how Rice is keeping him informed, making it all sound like they are giving him special "inside" access to the situation.

Assholes. He is the president elect. He get most of the same intel as the president gets, it's done all the time.

Are they as awesome as I think? Do you know anyone who has cooked one on a Weber?

/charcoal, of course

They are really good. They could be easily Webered, Just make sure you cover in foil. and use a heavy foil pan for base. Boneless, you know. So cookinging time is long and slow.

My Dad would have called that person a 'yeahbut' (well, after he got through mentioning the person's probable ancestors, likely destination, and various character and physical flaws. Dad worked in profanity like Monet worked in oil paint). A 'yeahbut' always had an objection to whatever was said, but never had an original idea.

Dad said that you could either pull the damned wagon, or ride on the damned wagon, but you couldn't get in the damned wagon's way or you'd get run over.

A little Prayer Never Hurts, and Psalm 20 Seems to fit:

PSALM 20

1. For the Conductor, a psalm by David. 2. May the Lord answer you on the day of distress; may the Name of the God of Jacob fortify you. 3. May He send your help from the Sanctuary, and support you from Zion. 4. May He remember all your offerings, and always accept favorably your sacrifices. 5. May He grant you your heart's desire, and fulfill your every counsel. 6. We will rejoice in your deliverance, and raise our banners in the name of our God; may the Lord fulfill all your wishes. 7. Now I know that the Lord has delivered His anointed one, answering him from His holy heavens with the mighty saving power of His right hand. 8. Some [rely] upon chariots and some upon horses, but we [rely upon and] invoke the Name of the Lord our God. 9. They bend and fall, but we rise and stand firm. 10. Lord, deliver us; may the King answer us on the day we call.

Ok, as you may have seen me post above, I went to my girlfriends house yesterday for our holiday dinner, since she works today.

She lives in a much more upscale part of the Denver area than I do, and her neighborhood is full of moonbats and such.

And I ran into something I had never seen before. I drove her to her post office so she could check her P.O. Box, and near the post office was a sign "traffic calming diverter's ahead."

What the hey. I looked this up on Google when I got back to her house. Well, damn, it's basically a medium that prevents left turns, so traffic is not disturbed by someone that may possibly need to turn down their street to get home.

I don't know how they are suppose to get to their street? Drive to the next shopping center, enter the shopping center, leave and drive back down the same street in the opposite direction and then make a right turn onto your street?

Goodness, lets just call then "can't we all just get along lanes," "it takes a village lanes" or "valiums for vehicles."

Citizen, welcome to 1984.

Update from Yeshiva WN:

UPDATE 1:05PM EST / 20:05PM IL: Once again, there is much confusion surrounding the latest report, this time attributed to the Israeli diplomatic sources. It appears up to 15 hostages have been released by terrorists in Mumbai, but not from the Chabad House as fist believed, but from near the Chabad House. Once again, there is no definitive source. There is no explanation accompanying the statement, which is ambiguous at best.

Foreign Ministry officials are reporting however that on Thursday afternoon, a female hostage in the Chabad House phone Israeli consular officials in New Delhi stating she has a gun pointed to her head and the terrorists are demanding the release of prisoners in India.

T-Bone and Ahi steaks, mashed potatoes, green beans, salad and stuffing only, no turkey.
It's a basic stuffing recipe but calls for bread cubes, not crumbs.
So here's the question: 12 cups bread cubes = ? cups bread crumbs.

re: #469 IslandLibertarian

We're doing non-traditional dinner.
T-Bone and Ahi steaks, mashed potatoes, green beans, salad and stuffing only, no turkey.
It's a basic stuffing recipe but calls for bread cubes, not crumbs.
So here's the question: 12 cups bread cubes = ? cups bread crumbs.
I've been improvising cooking all my life, so no big deal.

ONE STANDARD LOAF OF BREAD IS 8 CUPS.

Walter, you know how I feel about Obama - but here's a pleasant thought for you- Barry Obama is NOT the President Elect of the United States. He has to wait until December 15th when the Electoral College will declare him the winner of the election, then AND ONLY THEN, will he officially be President Elect!

I am ashamed to admit that I did not know that. His standing behind that "Office of the President Elect" sign seemed more than a little pretentious, now it seems absolutely ignorant.

A Happy Thanksgiving Day to the Lizard Nation!

re: #432 Walter L. Newton

I went to a place where I do volunteer work yesterday (mainly poor or homeless people in my community along w/ people too who need psychological help but cannot pay). I noticed a woman looking for a pack of cigarettes she'd dropped and so, wanting to be helpful I went behind the desk where some other volunteers were and asked if anyone had handed in a pack of cigarettes. I was gleefully told by the Moonbat volunteers that it was a now a 'no smoking facility' (thanks to OASIS, the same busybodies who have mandated drug rehab centers smoke free w/in 200 yds of the building/ addicted to crack cocaine? Come on down. But leave your cigarettes in the crack den)/

I knew we were 'smoke free' (since I'm required to fill out reams of paperwork if any clients I see there smoke or have a grandmother who used to smoke cigarettes or crack - no difference) and said so, and then let the Moonbats know that she was looking for her lost smokes - not smoking them/ they insisted that accding to regulations, no cigs -- lit or unlit were allowed in or near the premises. I asked if people were allowed to think of cigarettes while in or near the facility. They were left wondering what the regulation was for thinking illegal thoughts while I left to see my next client.

May your day be filled with reminders of the "blessings of peace liberty for ourselves and our posterity" continually secured for us for more than 200 years by all who vigilantly defend with their lives the wisdom which inspired our nation's founding.

I would have respected it more if he made a point or at least did something funny. Why wait years after getting banned to do something so petty? I guess like gordon and others he just can't let go.

ChenZhen proved why he was banned in the first place, and showed the world that he's a true creep who should never be trusted with anything.

I'll let zombie know about it -- z has the keys to that site, I didn't set it up.

Here's an email I just posted to the Indian embassy:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Today, the world mourns the slaughter of innocent travelers, workers and Indian citizens at the Taj Mahal hotel by bloodthirsty fanatics. Thankfully, the incident is now over, albeit at an appalling cost of human life. It is ironic that the country that birthed civilization as we know it seems to suffer so much from the acts of savages.

On this day when my fellow Americans thank God -- however we conceive Him -- for our blessings, I will pray for the healing and safety of your great nation.

May Brahma bless India!
May God bless America!

I helped set it up, and it's still in my dashboard, so I sent off a support request to WP.com. If they don't respond soon I'll write Matt direct. It appears someone claimed the blog as theirs and deleted it. Why do we think Chen did it?

Warning: probably better to just skip over this, it's a vent and a rant and it won't improve you holyday.

Just a few weeks ago I (and my eldest son) stood at Wounded Knee, at the Crazy Horse monument (note: Spirit Horse is a better translation -- his peers didn't seem him as crazy, they saw him as touched by higher forces), at the battlefield where Custer (another Michigan boy, as it turns out -- I'm from Traverse City and Saginaw, myself) fought his last, and trod the (used to be) lands of the Oglala Souix.
In the space of 3 weeks I went through many reservations in OR, ID, WY, ND, SD, WI, MN, MI, MS, KS, TX, OK, NM, AZ, and CA (and, yes, saw many casinos -- how dare they become self sufficient, huh?), and saw the conditions range the gamut in them.  I'm Native American mixed (one of the five 'Civilized Tribes'), have read extensively about the Trail of Tears, think that Leonard Peltier is probably not all that (but understand why AIM, etc., think he is), and have done my stand-out and sat in several sweat lodges.
That I am a mixed breed is not a shame for me, though others might consider it a lesser state, especially like those I found today referring to Native Americans and their supporters as Moonbats and Fucking Losers.  That the conquerors of a nation would celebrate their victory in this way yet be annoyed when Native Peoples and their supporters would instead show grief is perhaps predictable.  But that doesn't stop it from being sad.
There are many here that I support and like, and there are those I abhorr, but today is probably the first time I've been ashamed of some who expound their superiority here at LGF, and the racism exhibited.  I have heard the expression "haters hate" but I haven't really grasped it until now.  Those I speak of should wear their badges proud, they've proclaimed themselves as first class pariahs in my opinion.
I'll continue my traditions, in the meantime, and teach my children what lost glories reside in their genes.  They have a reason to be proud, as do I, and that can't be removed by such petty noises.  This is all I'm going to say on the subject.

}:/     [So stick that in your peace pipe and smoke it.]

Daughter made the usual outstanding traditional Thanksgiving dinner, plus a large mound of lefse. If you have Norsky connections you know what a blessing lefse is. If you don't, there's no way to explain it.

Also learned that the Indians brought green bean casserole to the First Thanksgiving. Did you know that?
