Twin Cities Muslim in Somalia Bombing

US News | Thu, Nov 27, 2008 at 3:37:39 pm PST

Shirwa Ahmed, a Somali man who lived in the Twin Cities, apparently blew himself up last week in northern Somalia—and there are almost a dozen others who recently disappeared from the Minneapolis area.

5 EYEWITNESS NEWS has learned that federal law enforcement sources believe that a Twin Cities man blew himself up in a suicide bombing in Northern Somalia last month. The FBI and Homeland Security are investigating whether Shirwa Ahmed had developed a terrorist recruiting network in the area.

5 EYEWITNESS NEWS learned that Ahmed came to the Twin Cities in 1996 and graduated from Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis. He was a naturalized U.S. citizen.

More than a dozen young men of Somali descent, mostly in their 20s, from the Minneapolis area have recently disappeared, U.S. law enforcement officials tell 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS. All are thought to be associates of Ahmed. U.S. officials suspect most of the young men have departed for Somalia to fight in ongoing violence there or to train in terrorist camps. Family members of the young men are said to be distraught, trying to figure to out what happened to them, sources say.

So far, the investigation has not uncovered credible evidence of a plot targeting the U.S. but American officials want to track down all these young men before they can say for certain what this is or is not, according to ABC News.

This gives me the chills. I worked with quite a few Somali immigrants years ago when I still lived in the TC area. I think the Twin Cities has one of the largest populations of Somalis in the US.

I'm glad you wrote, ''apparently.''
Who knows if all of the Somali men who are missing were ''all there'' or not?
Terrorists seem to be scrapping the bottom of the barrels worldwide in trying to find human bombs.
Just today while watching CNN because of it's ''live'' Bombay bombing coverage I saw a scrolling news item that 19 Iraqi women gave themselves up to Iraqi authorities after being ''recruited'' as suicide bombers.
More like emotionally blackmailed into it.
Or too medicated or messed up to fight it.
Why would American Somali's be any different?

The 7/7 bombers lived a very comfortable life and had plenty to live for too. Their religion thinks different.

Obama says daughters will do chores in White House

The girls, who will be attending the prestigious Sidwell Friends School, also will be expected to do their homework as usual. Although, the president-elect said, Malia has her eye on a special spot to write important papers.

When she came back from her White House visit recently, she told her dad that she plans to work at the desk in the Lincoln bedroom.

Obama, who is known to be an avid reader of Lincoln history, said his daughter told him "I'm going to sit at that desk, because I'm thinking that will inspire big thoughts."

During the interview, Obama described the desk as being the spot where Lincoln signed the Gettysburg Address. While there is a copy of the address on display in that room, it actually was the Emancipation Proclamation freeing the slaves that Lincoln signed there.

The media no longer reports news. It looks for targets to deflate so it can justify its existence. It would be extremely useful to the American electorate if we knew whether these pirates were a larger threat than they seem, because then we could better understand the decisions that our leaders make. Don't count on the media to help us with that though. I look forward to the day when they all go under.

The "terrorists (also known as trained commandos from Pakistan) did not know what their objectives were;

(from die hard)

Hans: The following people are to be released from their captors : In Northern Ireland, the seven members of the New Provo Front. In Canada, the five imprisoned leaders of Liberté de Quebec... In Sri Lanka, the nine members of the Asian Dawn movement...

Karl: Asian Dawn Movement?

Hans: I read about them in Time magazine.

I think the India terror attack is a cover. Maybe for movement on the India border. This doesn't read right. Reads as if someone is trying to spark anti-muslim sentiments in India, or wants to do something on the border and needs the troop movements on both sides as a cover. These guys were in place way ahead of time. Looks like a magicians trick to draw attention. I do not think the Pakistan government is behind any of this. I think this is a well funded feint by a terrorist entity inside Pakistan.

re: #8 Walter L. Newton

CNN (from India) is going to a report on how moderates become terrorists.

What the fuck does that mean? Are they moderately mad and turn into really mad?

It seems that there is simply no act so monstrous and no belief so vile that cannot be explained away in the interest of "tolerance", with the exception of course of conservatism for which there is simply no tolerance whatsoever.

Maybe when Obamian diplomacy is met with more of the the same murderous acts, it will convince them that the time for talking is done and there simply cannot be any tolerance shown for this behavior......but I wouldn't hold my breath on that one.

Case in point is this article fro the UK, stating that the world simply can not ignore India"s Islamist terrorists any longer. One must ask one's self "where the hell have you been for the last 7 years" (or the past 30 or more, for that matter)?!

"There are none so blind as those who will not see" and the willful blindness of these fools is as astounding as it is dangerous. At the first whiff of weakness in Obama, the scenes being seen now at the Taj will be seen at the Waldorf Astoria in New York.

These are the philosophical heirs of Chamberlain and history should judge them just as harshly.

I ended a piece I wrote a few years back, called "Not Just Presbyterians with Turbans" this way:

"Islam simply forbids any criticism from within or from without and we honor their wishes as though compelled to do so by their prelates or bound by their dogma. No matter how murderous their actions, no matter how vehemently they quote the Qur'an in justifying their actions, no matter how many are killed in the name of Allah, we avoid even the appearance of disapproval.

It is not blindness from which we suffer; it is a refusal to see.

In the 1930s, Winston Churchill spoke eloquently of "The Gathering Storm" in Europe. He could see that Hitler's relentless march across Europe, aided by Chamberlain's appeasement, was a cancer that would eventually destroy Europe and the world. He instinctively knew that the time to stem the Nazi tide was sooner rather than later. Europe, England and the world at large refused to see and allowed the malignancy to metastasize, increase its power and expand its sphere of influence. They averted their eyes in the hope that the horrors being visited upon the Jews and Eastern Europe would surely stop there. They were horribly wrong. The cost, in terms of death, suffering and resources for this willful myopia, was one that had not been seen before and has not been seen since.

Once again, a storm is gathering. Once again, the forces of death rise like a malevolent Phoenix. Once again, we are challenged to recognize and confront the forces of evil but we are overwhelmed by the urge to turn away.

Once again, the most difficult step in the defeat of these forces is also the most decisive; the recognition of them for what they truly are."

It was true then and it is true now.

Whereas today has seen further terrorist activities in Mumbai, and …

Whereas the Muslim religion and the community, Umma, which it produces, is irremediably connected to hatred and violence, the time has come for (western) civilization to protect itself by separating itself from and defending itself against Muslim peoples and the political ideology which masquerades as a ‘religion of peace’

Yup. The government even settled a bunch of Somalis in Postville, Iowa, to work in the kosher meat plant there after the big immigration raid wiped out the illegal workforce last spring. Then there were problems because they weren't allowed to say prayers at work. Now the plant is bankrupt from the fines and the town is dying.

I was riding my bike while going to get a gallon of gas for the mower. I had the German Shepherd on the lead and she was relishing the run when the gallon can caught under my knee and, as the leg shot up, jammed said can into the handle bars suddenly twisting the front wheel laterally and OOOOFFFFFF I went, straight over the bars onto the chip asphalt, landing with both palms down. What a mess. Needless to say, the lawns did not get mowed.

Of course these guys are involved in terrorism. The MSM is jumping through hoops looking for any explanation that fits their theory, but if these were Christians setting off explosives in the name of Jesus, they would be guilty before proven innocent.

When are we going to see a genuine undercover operation/investigative report by the MSM at a Twin City mosque where these Somali men attend? Hmmm?

So we have some more of “Ol’ Mo’s Gangbangers” running around again doing their killing and blowing up things. Whatever name they hang upon themselves is unimportant. Do those a$$holes not understand that they don’t have a monopoly on this stuff in America. We have plenty of our own homegrown variety. They’re called the Bloods, Hell’s Angels, Crips, Latin Kings, Aryan Brotherhood, et al. They’re all equally reprehensible regardless of their dogma. Go look at any State or Federal prison and the place is crawling with them like cockroaches. You don't even have to look at Gitmo.

As far as I’m concerned they’re all annihilation material, if what they do results in the pleasure they receive from their lust for power through extreme violence, their total disregard of decent human life, and the rush they get from watching blood flow. When they gang up together, it only gets worse.

From what I can see, it must be that all those violent young men must have a poisonous overdose of estrogen flowing from their ovaries that causes them to behave that way. And I’ll bet my first-born’s life that it seems to be that probably 90% of the violence is caused by those so afflicted. Do I really need a sarc tag here?

However, these low-lifes create nothing, accomplish little for humanity, are indiscriminate from whom they take, prey on the fears of those weaker, change little, but just cause nothing but trouble.

As long as humans walk upon this earth, this sh*t will go on. Nothing new. It’s just time to rid ourselves of these loathsome pests. But as long as western civilization insists on being so P.C., don’t stand on tiptoe waiting for it to happen soon, if ever.

Thanks for listening to Grandma on this lovely Carolina Thanksgiving Day. I hope everyone’s was as peaceful and reflective about what I’m thankful for .

Sorry, been away.

No, between cars, having written one off. I would have been about 21 yrs old. and the gas station was only 400 m away.

Funnily enough, as I sat there in the middle of the road (with the dog running around me as if to say "com'on boss, get, lets get going) this stunning young woman, who looked remarkably like Bailey off WKRP, came up to me and said "are you all right, can I lend a hand"

I replied, "not at the moment, but if you would like to pop around about 8.00 tonight, your assistance will be greatly appreciated"

Not having seen or heard Margolis comments, I think it is - obviously - rather stupid to blame Hindus for terrorist atrocities committed by Muslims. Terrorism is always the fault of the terrorist, not of the victims.

The terrorists themselves called IBN to "explain" their action. They pointed to the demolition of the 16th century Babri Mosque by Hindu nationalists in 1992 - in itself an abhorable act, and an episode which was followed by much violence. The fact that Westerners and Jews were specifically targeted in this attack does however underscore that it was also motivated by the general fascistoid thinking of Islamism, and in my eyes also suggests connections with international jihadism (although not necessarily AQ).

While being the largest democracy in the world, India has sadly had its share of extremists of different faiths and ideologies: Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, various nationalist groups, et cetera. I fear that this horrible attack will lead to escalating violence, that even more innocent people will suffer and that there will be more killings.

My cat finds features on the remote that I didn't know existed, had no idea what to do with and could only get rid of by unplugging the thing and re-starting it from scratch!

I have 2 cats with multiple toes. The older has 6 on her front feet, and the youngster has it on all four feet.
The older cat used to use her catcher's mits to answer the telephone when it would ring. She'd pull the handpiece off of the receiver, then sometimes meow into it, sometimes just walk away. It got to where I would have to unhook the phone and stick it in the desk when I went somewhere, as I got tired of people yelling at me for answering the phone but not saying anything.
