Has any more research been done to figure out who Decca Mujahideen is? I've heard various things, including a possible link to SIS.

2 Griffon  Thu, Nov 27, 2008 5:53:24pm

I hope they get it over with quickly with the least loss of life of hostages possible.

The name seems to be a smokescreen, given the accents of the perps.

Yippee
I hope they drop the corpses in pig entrails.
"Not really Muslims" should mean not treating the corpses as Muslims.

Arutz 7 and some other Israeli media sites have reported the Rabbi and his wife have been killed (R"L) but nothing can be confirmed.

It is my understanding, from what I've read, that the perps had Pashton or Punjabi accents.

Another minister was giving out details (yesterday) about when the NSG was leaving Dehli and the expected arrival time in Mumbai, etc., and this info was broadcast live...

Does the media ever know what's actually going on when they aren't trying to direct events themselves?

I think there are a number of problems here -- including providing live streaming video, etc...and then filming a commando raid as it occurs...that's a problem...any element of "surprise" is non-existent...it's compromising the operation (to the terrorists' benefit).

The building, along with the far better known Taj Palace and Oberoi hotels, found itself under siege. The terrorists took a young Israeli Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg and his young wife Rivka staying at Nariman Bhavan hostage. Both were reportedly killed. The terrorists, however, spared their two-year old son and a maid.

My thoughts and prayers continue with India, the world's largest democracy, trying to join the first world though surrounded by third worlders trying to keep EVERYONE down.

Think of all those young Indians politely answering your questions from Indian call centers, instead of training for jihad like their neighbors in Pakistan. Pakistani-Britons train to destroy the people who try to help them, while Indians work hard to become like the people who used to colonize them--common-law loving democracy minded free thinkers.

Please let India join the fight against the perpetrators in a big way.

It's supposedly an unforgettable experience. Remember reading how British colonials who were assigned to India would "go native"? Many wonderful Indian things were absorbed into Britain's culture and language.

Senator John McCain's mother traveled to India almost every year, including to some crazy festival where she slept in a mud hut!

Speaking of which, that comment reminds me of Michael Moore's comment shortly after the 9/11 attacks. He said that the attacks were evil and unjustified, because many of the people who were killed didn't even vote for President Bush.

Gunshots and two explosions inside the building as commandos are entering ...15 to 17 of them. Choppers dropped them onto the roof. IBN

I'm imagining how scary this must be for the hostages inside. May God grant them strength.

I think there are a number of problems here -- including providing live streaming video, etc...and then filming a commando raid as it occurs...that's a problem...any element of "surprise" is non-existent...it's compromising the operation (to the terrorists' benefit).

At the Olympic Games in 1972, The Germans were ready to move on the Palestinains while they were still inside the Olympic Viliage. Someone decided that it would make great TV to broadcast the Germans moving into position. Soon, the Palis were waving their guns around and threatening to kill the hostages. (SURPRISE! They knew how to turn on a TV!) The Germans backed off, and decided to set up the raid at the airport.... which went completely wrong.

Morocco can be a bit much as well. I was there for 3 weeks and was emotionally exhausted by the time I left. People there are so poor and eager for tourist money that I would hire a guide for the day just to keep the other guides away. One day I was walking down a back alley which ended up being the women's entrance to a mosque. A woman gave me a hand gesture that I dubbed "the Moroccan finger wag". Even in her burka I could tell I was pissing her off. I adopted the gesture whenever people were bothering me and it worked like a charm! Even the Peace Corps people I was traveling with were very happy to learn the gesture.

Drill in Saudi Arabia, take as much of their f*ckin' oil as we please, and tell them we'll give them some if and when they start behaving like human beings instead of animals.

I always thought, if it weren't for the money drain, a smart strategy to burn up everyone else's oil, then when they are out, we have ours yet. It's paying them all that money that puts a hole in that strategy, but now at $50/bbl oil, it may be smart.

It turns out that Rabbi Gavi Holtzberg is a friend of our rabbi here in San Jose...Here is the email he sent:

At this moment my colleague Rabbi Gabi Holtzberg and his wife, the Chabad emissaries in Mumbai India, along with other Israeli Tourists, are hostages in their Chabad House in the horrific terrorist attacks on the city. Their infant son has escaped with the nanny, yet they are still inside. Hundreds of commandos surround the house and it seems that a full-scale assault is imminent (www.chabad.org/772546).

While everything must be done - and IS being done - by the forces to rescue the hostages, we know that we have the power to storm the Heavens and pray to G-d that this situation and the terrible current circumstances in Mumbai are resolved peacefully immediately.

Please say a prayer, perhaps Psalm 20 (www.chabad.org/6320), for the Chabad Rabbi and Rebbetzin, the Israeli tourists and all the good people of Mumbai. Please have in mind Gavriel Noach ben Freida Bluma and Rivkah bas Yehudis (Rabbi & Rebbitzin Holtzberg).

Don't stop with a prayer; please take it one step further and remember that a small act of "light" in one part of the world can dispel darkness wherever it may be.

Do a mitzvah:

a) Give charity in their merit

b) Men: Put on Tefillin today (if you already did, see to it that someone who hasn't yet, should).

c) Women: Resolve to light candles tomorrow evening (if you already do, see to it that someone who hasn't yet, should).

May G-d bring peace to our pained and darkened world!

Well, you know, to his credit, the Office of the President Elect (complete with his stupid little bullshit pretend-presidential-seal that he made on his iMac and printed up at Kinko's so he could stand behind it and pretend he's a grown-up) did issue a statement on the events in Mumbai:

"President-Elect Obama strongly condemns today's terrorist attacks in Mumbai, and his thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and the people of India. These coordinated attacks on innocent civilians demonstrate the grave and urgent threat of terrorism. The United States must continue to strengthen our partnerships with India and nations around the world to root out and destroy terrorist networks. DSM-IV Criteria for Narcissitic Personality Disorder

A pervasive pattern of grandiosity (in fantasy or behavior), need for admiration, and lack of empathy, beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts, as indicated by five (or more) of the following:

  1. has a grandiose sense of self-importance
  2. is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love
  3. believes that he or she is "special" and unique
  4. requires excessive admiration
  5. has a sense of entitlement
  6. is interpersonally exploitative
  7. lacks empathy
  8. is often envious of others or believes others are envious of him or her

If the textbook is the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), then you're absolutely correct:

DSM-IV Criteria for Narcissitic Personality Disorder

A pervasive pattern of grandiosity (in fantasy or behavior), need for admiration, and lack of empathy, beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts, as indicated by five (or more) of the following:

  1. has a grandiose sense of self-importance
  2. is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love
  3. believes that he or she is "special" and unique
  4. requires excessive admiration
  5. has a sense of entitlement
  6. is interpersonally exploitative
  7. lacks empathy
  8. is often envious of others or believes others are envious of him or her
  9. shows arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitudes

I think that covers a majority of politicians in general.

And this is who has been chosen by the Americans to lead. ? I don't get it. Even trying to explain and talk with my 19 yo stepson is more frustrating. My husband is trying to bring the "race" card into it and it is a constant fight to keep it on track to what exactly what is going on. It is not about race - it is about the moral issues and what is expected out of "you" personally and how you need to react (and react is not the word I am looking for). I am trying to teach my step-son that he must learn and research for himself - his reaction is he doesn't like "Government" or "History" - I told him tonight neither did I at his age (19), but now, I can't get enough.

I got into Communism at his age so, there's hope for him.

INTENTION BEHIND POLLS IS TO STRESS THE FACT THE TERRORIST SHOULD NOT BE CATEGORISED BY RELIGION BUT ARE THOSE WHO ARE NOT FIT TO BE CIVILIZED HUMANS.AM EXTREMELY SORRY AS THE MOTIVE SEEMS TO BE LOST...``
...
My concern:

I love DAILYKOS infact i call myself a proud kossac...i have spent most of my time here and i have done my best for Obama last one year...i felt very bad to see Kos ignoring Mumbai attacks (cant u spare atleast one front page for this? are we not eligible even for that kos?)

I never thought am an Indian i thought am a fellow human and wished for good things to happen to my fellow human..thats why i loved obama, i love Kossacks and i will always stand by them...But is it right if i think Kos and those front page writers dont pay a heck for us?Am i wrong in believing kossacks are the most beautiful people on earth who believe in worlds peace and welfare?

Another thought -- Imagine (God forbid) this were happening right now in Manhattan. The Waldorf Astoria has been taken over by Muslim terrorists with hundreds of hostages inside. The NYPD surrounds the building. Gunshots are heard inside. And the urgent phone call comes... to our "ruler," the scumbag-in-chief, at his office in the White House. What would he do?

I think this may be above his paygrade.

On a side note -

This whole "rescue" operation seems to be a complete cluster-f$ck.

Hello fellow lizards and newbies... Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I'm so stuffed... turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes w/ marshmallows, cranberry relish, rolls, broccoli, pecan pie AND cherry pie. It all sounded so good when I was hungry.

I'm so thankful that I live in a country where I am free to speak what's on my mind, I have the opportunity to elect my government officials, I can worship God without the fear of being thrown in jail or worse yet, getting stoned to death and I have web access so I can "chat" with friends at LGF. Life is good, folks!

re: #313 Sunlight

I've read totally conflicting (contradictory) reports. (The AP has a timeline, but it doesn't resolve the contradictions...) One report claimed that the terrorists who disembarked from the boats split up into groups -- one group headed to the police station -- where there was a gun fight -- the top counter-terrorism chiefs were all shot, whereupon the terrorists then grabbed police clothing and stole the car, then went through the streets (opening up the windows and using automatic weapons to fire at pedestrians -- that was videotaped.) Another report suggests that the anti-terrorism people were at the forefront of a gun battle...(not caught unawares at the police station)...(if the police -- all three top people -- were caught by surprise -- all three at the police headquarters -- not wearing protective vests, etc. -- then I guess there's a problem...in that it was a lightning fast decapitation strike -- taking out the counterterrorism forces prior to the main assault)... Then the undermanned, out-gunned, out maneuvered police were left scrambling...(which may also account for the large number of police who were subsequently killed -- 15 ?). It also took 12 hours to have the NSG arrive from New Delhi...

I am not sure that this is resonating much with Americans outside of those of us that follow this kind of stuff.

I don't think this would have changed the outcome of the elections much at all. There was too much willful denial of reality among the American center and far left to have been shaken from their vote by something like this.

The dust hasn't cleared and they're still counting bodies and of course the Al-Beeb is fretting over possible backlash against Indian Muslims.

You know, I kinda doubt the Indians will care a whole lot what the idiots at the BBC think. Perhaps a few folks will open their eyes to what a biased bunch of bastards run that place. Next time they run a series about the poor, suffering Palestinians, lots of Indians will have a real "a ha" kind of moment.

So? are you taking the stance that Communism is the way to go? - I really don't think so, but why the stance? It is always easier to let someone else "take care" of you (i.e, government) vs. taking care of yourself.

Yes, I would like someone to take care of me, but it is not the government, and my husband has also fallen short - it is up to me, and me me alone.

Correct.

High level anti-terrorist officers killed during first attacks, plus total of ten sites attacked. Such a large scale attack most likely not figured on in response planning.

I look at this way. Either the terrorists' tactics made the Indians expend their best men in fruitless counter-attacks early on, or the Indians were incapable of reacting to multiple attacks, or both.

Either way, it has been confusing to watch the video feeds. Areas do not seem secure, people/media milling about. There is no established perimeter that I can decipher from my desktop. It's all wrong, imho.

I messed around with that site once. It tracks the frequency of names assigned to babies born in the United States, as measured by the Social Security Administration.

I had to stop. This and this were too upsetting.

Back in school, I had a friend named David Kahr. After I'd known him a while, I mentioned that I go by my middle name, and told him my real first name.

He then confessed that "David" wasn't his real name. He said he used that because he didn't like his real first name. It turns out his real first name was "Ahmed". I asked him what was wrong with that. Did he think it set him apart because it sounded too "foreign" or what?

He replied, "No, I have no problem with the first name alone. But when you say my full name, it's 'Ahmed Kahr'! It sounds too much like 'Armored Car', so people think I'm trying to funny or something!"

My response, "Good choice, David!"

I just had about 50 ie windows open on me in quick succession, started to hit alt F4 to shut them down, but they kept opening, started beating them back so to speak with rapid alt F4 action. Finally closed the last window to get to the desk top and ie opened up again and started doing the same thing again. nasty.

finally had to shut the computer down with control alt delete. upon restarting the problem seems to have gone away.

i thought i might be pressing a button or something, but it was weird. related to the site? I dunno. might be given the other complaints. a virus maybe.

re: #398 neverquit

The problem seems to be responding to a para military force with regular police. How large is the SWAT team of a standard police force? How would a regular police force in a comparable sized US city be able to respond to a similar attack?

The response time of the commando teams was slow. Command and control was slow off the mark. Seems that they had gotten a little slack in evaluating threats. Of course, how good at evaluation are our local leaders? How many even would believe that Islamists would do such a thing?

Saw him walking out the door, putting on a rain jacket with hood and his wallet was making the biggest bulge in his hip pocket you can imagine - so I suggested he just put some cash in his front pocket and leave his wallet with us (they were spending the Thanksgiving weekend with us) and he said "naw, pickpockets don't come out in the rain!" - that's why my former wife gave me such a glare when they got back that I didn't ask what happened.
Of course, he blamed NYC (he and my SiL were from Bangor, Maine).

I don't think the NDTV people know anything...they're just biding time....the terrorists are on one floor, and the commandos are on another floor (so the announcer has said, also the reporter just reported on the actual number of commandos inside the building, which I won't repeat.)

Um, money maybe? Coat-tails and all.

It really felt like they were making the plot up as they went along. It was all over the place. And I get tired of watching people smack each other around 100 times longer than any two humans could take that sort of beating.

Smack, back and forth, for 15 minutes, and everyone is still smiling. I guess if you don't have any plot or real dialog, smacking each other for 15 minutes is a good way to pad out frame time.

463 Wishing  Thu, Nov 27, 2008 9:11:15pm

JS, they are rolling tape that I saw this morning. So I am thinking this is all just a replay. The commandos got dropped on that roof way earlier today, but it is being re-braodcast, as if it is going on now.

I am so angry at the terrorists and at the world media coverage and their sick slants on terrorism. When we were hit with 9/11, was the world news coverage biased and so unempathetic then to us? I was so stuck on the US news during our ordeal that I never once looked at any other country to see what their coverage was saying. Or, How they were saying it.

Bangor's nice though we went to Maine for the summers for the past 10 years, now the kids don't want to go anymore, too boring, all that scenery, ocean, nature.
They (the Maine guys) leave their front doors unlocked, even at night, don't kill the engine of their trucks or cars when they go into a shop for an errant, or do, but leave the keys in the ignition, it's a great way of life, certainly a bit different than NYC.

Actually, if it happened right now, Bush would still be in charge. In which case, the terrorists should either just hand themselves over now or eat hot lead. And this whole thing would've been wrapped up within the hour.

It would be over and done with before The Office of the President Elect had time to assemble an elite squad of trained negotiators charged with threatening the jihadis with arrest and criminal prosecution.

Here's the Wikipedia entry on rickrolling.

Actually, rickrolling doesn't refer to Rick singing that song. The general idea is that you provide a link on a forum allegedly for one purpose, but instead link to a video of Rick Astley singing "Never Gonna Give You Up".

Yeah, I honestly do know what you mean. But I'm totally unfamilar with Indian TV - maybe because our MSM has so much practice with Natalie Holloway and Brittany and Nicole Smith (RIP) and playing "gotcha" politics with Republicans, our MSM is in better shape to cover stuff like this.
But it's inexcusable for them to say - apparently over the air - how many commandos are in the building.
And, of course, "commandos" means one thing with our Troops and the Brits and Canadians, maybe not so much with India - maybe they don't really get all that much special training.

The original point of rickrolling was to find a really bad song with which you could trick people by repeatedly linking to it. Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up" happened to be that song.

The appearance in today's parade was somewhat cool because it says he's accepted the phenomenon (notice they even used the approach of tricking people by starting with another song), and understands that he's popular because of a song that is disliked.

The funniest use of this internet phenomenon was when the Mets had an online poll to select their new 7th-inning song. Posters from 4chan and Fark successfully used to the poll to get the Mets to choose "Never Gonna Give You Up" as the song. Here's the result.

The use of the song lasted exactly 1 game.

Crystal Skull has been a reoccurring theme in sci-fi/fantasy/action stories/films for a while. I think the Shia was fine, it was a bad script and bad directing.

I've noticed that a lot lately in films. They seem as thought they want to produce something that can be converted into a video game to realize more licensing revenue. Short, jerky, disjointed scenes, with good actors, and bad scripts.

All reminds me of the one episode of Power Rangers I was once forced to watch while watching my neighbor's kid. No theme, no continuity, just a 30 minute commercial designed to make kids bug their parents to buy Power Rangers shit.

I don't know about action hero, but he is a good actor. He started on a Disney series and did one or two of their obligatory cable movies. My kid was Disney-age when Shia was doing this. I was always impressed with him, he stood out from the rest of any cast he was performing with.

I think his handlers are trying to find a way to capitalize on his talent. I don't think he really has the sex-appeal to be the next Indiana Jones, but now, he has an action movie on his resume and he co-starred with Harrison Ford.

yep, Disney's the worst, total clean and happy world, no conflicts, and if there is the unlikely event that there are some differences than we can all huddle together and solve them in the pc way. Unfortunately live isn't anything like that and it (Disney) retards and cripples the kids emotionally and spiritually.

Before or after they launch a nuke at Tel Aviv or Mumbai or Baghdad?

Iran won't attack India or Iraq. They might attack Israel. But more likely, they wouldn't. Everybody else who's ever got nukes has found possession of the infernal devices most sobering.

You mean this here small fridge sized thing makes whole city go boom? What if they did that to us? What about my cousins, Aunt May, etc.etc?

The real game here is an endless nibbling, trying to erode the target. Attritional warfare against a much more populous and economically advanced state has a way of not working, though.

Indian Muslims did most of the legwork this time around, but it's not clear whether they had foreign help, or if they did, who helped. Interrogation of prisoners and forensic analysis of the remains of those KIA will help. Since they weren't "real Muslims", it will be permissible to keep them on ice and do the job right. What did they last eat? Where did the water they were drinking last come from? There are clues.

They may have already recorded their "martyr videos," which can be released later by whatever POS is holding them. It helps to recruit new murderers. But I think the main reason for doing it is that it makes it more embarrassing for the terrorist to back out at the last minute if he has second thoughts.

There was an email found instructing the perp to claim to be from Hyderabad (IIRC) if captured, but the email was written in Punjabi, which is not spoken in India, according to the article.

I'll be interested to see if it is current or former (i.e., recently purged) ISI responsible for the plot.

My husband has an idea: if someone takes a hostage, they should be *swarmed* by commandos carrying flame-throwers.
I was a nurse in a large city jail. It was a *no hostage* workplace. They gave us 10 cents an hour for hazardous duty pay. lol

646 victor_yugo  Thu, Nov 27, 2008 10:19:06pm

Hi all.

I'm sorry to have to throw this into a thread about breaking news, but this is going to be my last post for, well, indefinitely. I have been out of work for three weeks now, and the cash reserves are running dangerously low. I will be contacting my cell phone provider tomorrow to reduce my plan to the lowest reasonable level, which will essentially cut me off from Internet access at home. I can still go to the library, or to my parents' place, but it isn't quite the same, and all I'll likely do there is check email and tech headlines. I won't be chatting.

And when I say "indefinitely," that's in the fullest sense of the word. I may find a winning lottery ticket tomorrow, or I may be out of work for the next three, four, five, six months. I have the support of family and several friends lined up, as well as good references from three people-in-positions at my last job. My landlord has promised to do what he can, to make sure I don't lose the apartment.

He has also pointed me in a direction to get another job, which has turned into a two-way race: either fixing PC's in a hospital 30 miles away, or building snow-removal equipment seven blocks away. The former, while a longer drive, is also a longer assignment, so it would serve me better, as well as use my skills better. But frankly, whoever offers me a job first, gets me. It's just a matter of getting to that point, and then digging myself out of the hole I've dug for myself. ;-) Once I manage to get things reasonably squared up, I will be back, I promise.

In the meantime, I will get unemployment compensation, but the first disbursement will not come through until next week at the earliest. I have a couple other options which depend on the good-will of strangers, something I'm not above accepting.

So, I will miss the LGF sorely. But rest assured, the knowledge and training I have gained on this site will serve me well against media dhimmitude. As we see in this thread: ROPMA!

I like ESPN when they actually show sports- not 20-something man children playing EA's Madden NFL or catchphrase-spewing 'anchors' on Sports Center. This time of year, the NHL network and the various and scattered channels that show college football will work as well.

I lived in the region for 5 years and saw mind-numbing ignorance there. The kind that's scary because it's easy to whip into a frenzy. I've had this annoying feeling lately that the main reason so many liberal, "peace warrior" types strongly support gun control and general disarmament is because on some level they realize the chaos that ensues when the "down trodden masses" that they fight for are given the fast track to "legitimacy" while weapons are within easy reach.

All the best and hope to see you back soon. I feel I am just a step away from the same situation.

Re: Mumbai - in a recent job I came into contact with a brilliant Indian surgeon based in Mumbai. I heard he had been at the Taj Mahal at a wedding celebration just 24 hours before the attacks, which he described as

sad and shocking happenings.

Indeed.

Thanks a lot for the IBN live stream link, Charles! I was looking for the coverage everywhere - they're not really showing it anywhere on TV here anymore. Fox News has nothing about it either.

There are live audio clips from the terrorists
- The accent is pakistani
- The urdu slangs used are from pakistan (not from India)
- These terrorists had hijacked an indian trawler from Gujarat in western India killing all its crew befoe landing in mumbai
- Photographs of terrorists are available
- Some of the terrorists were british born Pakistanis

The Mumbai (Bombay) mafia a section of which is islamic aided these pakistanis

re: #15 J.S.

I think there are a number of problems here -- including providing live streaming video, etc...and then filming a commando raid as it occurs...that's a problem...any element of "surprise" is non-existent...it's compromising the operation (to the terrorists' benefit).

It is bizarre, isn't it? The 21st Century democracies seem to cling to a warped and dangerous delusion about reality. When government officials finally fear the consequences for media-whoring leaks, if the people ever understand that a shallow love of sensation is placing their survival in questions, then maybe this suicide pact with television news will end.

Others are watching CNN in the other room. A few minutes ago a talking head assured us that intelligence agencies are trying to discover "what prompted this terrible attack".

I can save them some time.

Jihad.

If all of this turns out to be true, and sofar there's nothing that would indicate otherwise, then the Mumbia Murder should be taken not as an act of terrorism but as a declaration of war. The weak argue that would be playing into the hands of the terrorists. I give them this quote from Manhattan (1979):

Allen: Has anybody read that Nazis are gonna march in New Jersey, you know? I read this in the newspaper. We should go down there, get some guys together, you know, get some bricks and baseball bats and really explain things to 'em.
Man: There was this devastating satirical piece on that on the op-ed page of the Times. It is devastating.
Allen: Well, well, a satirical piece in the Times is one thing, but bricks and baseball bats really gets right to the point, I think.
Woman: Oh, but really biting satire is always better than physical force.
Allen: No, physical force is always better with Nazis, 'cause it's hard to satirize a guy with shiny boots.

This has gone well past the stage of bats and bricks.

The world is a dangerous place. I can tell you there are good men and women laying it all on the line, for us all, as I type - as you read.
This is a war, the enemy is not inept nor impaired by Western cultural sensibilities. Our people have one arm tied behind their back, the rules are not fair. Don't forget those (and their family's sacrifice) who are out there right now, prowling around, looking for the bad guys, while we eat leftover turkey.
