IBN reports that there are still three terrorists loose in the Taj Hotel, but all the other attack sites are now secured.

Mumbai: India’s financial hub continues to remain under siege.

On Friday night – 51 hours into the war-like operation on terror – the National Security Guard said there are at least three terrorists still holed up inside the hotel.

The NSG are in a close combat with the dogged terrorists at the iconic hotel after securing two other centres taken over by gunmen two nights ago.

I just can't quit watching the ndtv coverage.

I am anxious to see a final report on this - the situation has been so chaotic, it's been hard to get a full picture of what happened.

I really liked what the British escapee had to say a min ago on IBN, something to the effect of 'Don't be fearful or the terrorists win. When they have a gun on you, that's the time to be fearful - but you shouldn't live the rest of your life in fear.'

I dunno if they should be shot in action and die slow or captured alive and roasted for everything they know, but I hope the good guys win this one!

8 Last Mohican  Fri, Nov 28, 2008 5:00:40pm

Why is this taking so long to unfold? I.e. why were the Muslims holding all those hostages, rather than just killing everyone immediately? I haven't heard that they were making any demands. Were they just hoping to draw out the horrible drama for as long as possible?

I just heard some info on the Jews in Nariman house...I just listened to a few minutes of Savage: according to his source in India, the Jews were all bound and killed...Mom was holding the baby when she was killed...he crawled out from under her. The nanny heard him cry and opened to door of the room she was hiding in; when she saw him, she grabbed him and made her way out.
Bastards!

I'm going to guess/speculate that two things might be coming into play: The terrorists have RDX, some of the explosions we heard on tape could have been booby traps or suicide vests. The other would be that there was preparations from the inside of the hotel for this (two of the terrorists were employed by the hotel, two were guests,) and they could have prepped some hidey holes in utility spaces and be coming back out after the big sweeps pass.

Wonder if we will ever take our own security and survival seriously? Will it take an atrocity such as this in our country to turn people away from the folly of "mainstreaming" terrorist warfare into a criminal justice model? Does Obama have what it takes to lead the country into a desperately needed paradigm shift, into survival mode, and out of the spun sugar confection of leftist pacifism and appeasement? I don't know--is Obama merely inexperienced, which can be helped--or is he stupid. 'Cause, there ain't no cure for stupid.

It seems to me the media is calling people "hostages" until their deaths can be confirmed. In other words, I don't think it's clear that the terrorists were holding live hostages. But until the police forces can get into the buildings, it seems that the missing folks are being referred to as "hostages".

Where did you get that info? I saw some references made to "control centers" that they had set up, but what I saw didn't have anything more specific than that.

22 Wishing  Fri, Nov 28, 2008 5:07:25pm

These bastards didn't tie up other people, so why tie up the rabbi? Whats that about, hmm? Were they afraid he would pray?

23 Silhouette  Fri, Nov 28, 2008 5:07:35pm

I have no idea why one hotel takes days to clear. Maybe they have been in stand-off conditions the whole time. Maybe the terrorists have been blending in with civilians. Maybe their advanced recon (some supposedly worked at the hotel) gave them knowledge of hidey holes.

Wonder if we will ever take our own security and survival seriously?

No.

Will it take an atrocity such as this in our country to turn people away from the folly of "mainstreaming" terrorist warfare into a criminal justice model?

We had a worse atrocity, and that's exactly what it did. Now the American people have decided that all the solders and stuff are real boring, so we're gonna go back to the criminal justice model.

Does Obama have what it takes to lead the country into a desperately needed paradigm shift,

Obama doesn't have what it takes to lead the country into the weekend, let alone a paradigm shift.

into survival mode, and out of the spun sugar confection of leftist pacifism and appeasement?

America has spoken. We'll take the confection, thanks.

I don't know--is Obama merely inexperienced, which can be helped--or is he stupid. 'Cause, there ain't no cure for stupid.

Inexperienced, yes. Stupid, no. Steadfast in his determination not to protect America from terrorism? Absolutely.

49 zato  Fri, Nov 28, 2008 5:13:38pm

My guess is that this is most likely a Pakistan-sponsored hit-job with a dual intent of paralyzing the financial capital of India and attacking Westerners. Contrary to some of the media reporting here that lays the blame on Indian/homegrown terrorists. Also, the Indian politicians are shamelessly out of touch and incompetent. It will take a lot of bribes from the rich folks for these clowns to be incentivized to beef up security and terror response systems. Fortunately, the Indian citizens share that tenacity and resilience thats been demonstrated by humanity over and over again. They will not let the terrorists win... it took over a decade of serious efforts to quell terrorism in Punjab in the 1980s and hopefully there's another KPS Gill or Dick Cheney out there to marshall the resources.

50 yenta-fada  Fri, Nov 28, 2008 5:13:48pm

Pakistan is the nation that is the biggest danger to the world today. Lawless armed regions, nukes, fragile governing coalitions, huge population constantly being radicalized. India has the misfortune of being in a bad neighborhood. I blame the Koran and the sheer lack of will to mature given that Allah has already taken care of everything, so why bother?

This goes to show what idiots these terrorists were: I detest terrorism, but I understand the need to use it for political purposes. However, those who use it without any clear political statement are just a bunch of thugs without a cause.

They don't know what they stand for. They don't know why they hate. They just do. They're not even smart enough to post a manifesto.

Their message of wanton hate was brought to you by the Taliban and modern fundamentalist Islam. I don't know why anyone would think this is a better idea than what we have now.

They may be biologically human, but they're not part of humanity. Frankly, I don't care what becomes of them. It would be different if I cared enough to hate them back. But I don't. They're deluded, sick and hopeless people. They don't deserve anyone's support. Live and let die.

95 Randall Gross  Fri, Nov 28, 2008 5:24:34pm

From the Wiki:

A previously unknown organization identifying itself as the Deccan Mujahideen claimed responsibility by email sent to news organizations.[3] Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has said the attacks probably had “external linkages,” believing that the attack could not have occurred without help.[10] On 28 November, police stated that three terrorists who had attacked the Taj Hotel confessed to being members of the Pakistani-based Lashkar-e-Taiba Islamist group,[11][12] which may have severe consequences for India-Pakistan relations.[13] The Indian Mujahideen terrorist group threatened in September 2008 to carry out bombings at sites in Mumbai.[14][15] According to some news reports, a terrorist holding hostages at the Oberoi told an Indian TV channel that they wanted all 'Mujahideen' in Indian prisons released before they released their hostages. He also indicated that there were seven terrorists holding hostages at that location.[16][17] Other reports indicate that this demand was made through a hostage at the Mumbai Chabad House, in a call to the Israeli consulate in New Delhi.[18] Experts have conflicting views as to whether Al Qaeda is behind the attacks.[19][20]

Also note that I posted a link this am where an LeT confession spoke about attack / infiltration from the sea well prior to the attack. Rubber dinghys at night are hard to stop even if you are expecting them btw.

Arrested terrorist says gang hoped to get away

The gang of terrorists who wreaked mayhem in Mumbai for three days were made to believe by their Lashkar bosses that they were not

being sent on a suicide mission and that they would be coming back alive.

In a sensational disclosure made by Ajmal, the jihadi nabbed alive by Mumbai cops, the group had planned to sail out on Thursday. Their recruiters had even charted out the return route for them and stored it on the GPS device which they had used to navigate their way to the Mumbai shoreline.

This suggests that the terrorists were willing to undertake a mission which they knew would be very risky, but not necessarily suicidal.

They have about three times, but there is a large amount of sympathy there for the Kashmir cause. That started in Zia al Haq's time, and every ruler since has carried it forward. Mushy even supported it until Oct. 2006, coincidentally also the time when the assassination attempts on him started.

The nanny heard him cry and opened to door of the room she was hiding in; when she saw him, she grabbed him and made her way out.

RDX

Coincidentally, I happen to be reading about the Israeli killing of "The Engineer," Yehiya Ayyash, responsible for creating many of the bombs that killed Israelis in the '90s (and for training others to do so subsequently).

According to Katz in The Hunt for the Engineer, the Israelis used 50 grams of RDX placed around a cellphone battery, detonating it remotely when he used the phone. It ripped half his face off.

That's some powerful explosive.

148 Randall Gross  Fri, Nov 28, 2008 5:39:07pm

Interesting:

Major General RK Hooda, GOC, Maharashtra, was more explicit. He told NDTV news channel that the attackers had come by boat from Pakistan. Other TV channels named a gunmen held by authorities as Abu Ismail, said to be a Punjabi-speaking youth from Pakistan. A satellite phone recovered from two dead terrorists reportedly showed calls made to Karachi before and after the attacks commenced.
Intelligence analysts suggested the prime suspect in the al-Qaeda-type operation would be the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), the banned military wing of the Islamic organisation Markaz-ud-Dawa-al-Irshad headquarted in Muridke near the Punjab capital Lahore.

The Al-Qaeda linked LeT was founded in 1989 in the Kunar province of Afghanistan, and its fighters have been active in fighting Indian security forces in Kashmir since 1993. But security analyst Uday Bhaskar said "though it would be tempting to blame a Pakistan-based group, especially the LeT, we need to wait for some more evidence to establish the link".

In the past, the LeT was alleged to have close links with Pakistan's ISI agency. But on the basis of what is known so far, none of the Indian security analysts believe that the Pakistan security establishment would have played a role in the organising the Mumbai operation. "But former ISI or even retired Pakistan Navy officials could have been involved with the LeT," said an analyst.

Watching a CNN interview with this Erlich character was at the Taj hotel.

This guy has a clue, and is basically saying what needs to be said.

He pointed out that we have to live our lives, and stand with the Indians.

Blitzer brought up that Erlich is jewish, and Erlich pointed out that out of the 1 billion people in India, where some 10,000 are of the tribe, somehow, the bad people figured out where they were and how to hit them.

Most un-PC for CNN. Where is Christiane Amanpour? Doesn't she want to help us blame the tribe for attacks on the tribe?

Erlich showed what it was to be a mensch, even after bad people came for him because of who he was, and not what he had done.

I do find the media's insistence that they don't know who did this attack about as honest as their claims of impartiality in the recent presidential election.

Why are British citizens, born in the UK, going overseas to commit homicide in the name of islam? This isn't sudden jihad syndrome. There is something more nefarious going on.

And how come the media hasn't asked a very basic question that Erlich answered? Why did they target jews, westerners? This wasn't random. That is obvious to most.

But, why target jews? In a country with 1 billion people, 10 million is 1 percent. 10 thousand is 0.001 percent.

When are we going to stop paying respects and oil tax to regimes that claim that linking islam with terrorism is wrong, and start addressing the unfortunate fact that islam is generating many terrorists?

The Islamic Republic of Stackapanies seems to be in deep doo-doo now. With this latest assault in Mumbai they have managed to piss off most of the entire civilized world, once again. They cannot control their Allah Gangbangers, they allow their Intelligence Services to coordinate with them, they won’t bring the “tribal” areas under authority, they can’t find bin Laden, they probably get their cut of the opium trade that constitutes 90% of Afghanistan’s economy, and praise A.Q. Khan as a “national hero”. Yeah, hello.

This is how Islam and those that promote it are going to give the rest of the world a “warm and fuzzy” about how wonderful, merciful, generous, and credible their political/religious agenda should be to the rest of the world?

It reminds me of a story that my late Grandmother used to tell: “Once upon a time, the Sun and the Wind were in a battle about which one was the strongest. The Wind found a little girl walking home from school in the winter with her coat on. The Wind bragged to the Sun that he could get the coat off the little girl. He blew out the coldest, strongest wind he could, but all the little girl did was to wrap her coat tighter around her. Then it was the Sun’s turn. The Sun shined his warmest rays upon the little girl, and eventually, the little girl removed her coat." You figure out the moral.

Thanks for listening to Grandma’s tales and have a nice day. My thoughts and grief go out tonight for all those who lost their lives, were wounded and suffered at the hands of Allah’s Gangbangers.

Who so little coverage of the attck on the Maternity Wards at the 4th and 5th floor of the hospital?

The terrorist duo, while continuing to fire indiscriminately, went up to the fourth and fifth floors, which house the maternity ward at the five-storey hospital.
One of the two maternity wards was locked from the inside while the terrorists tried to break into another which had been fastened by the women occupying it using a cloth.
Twenty-five women, along with their newborn babies and three other men locked themselves inside a safety room within the maternity ward, refusing to open despite several threats by the terrorists.

Semi-OT, but not really:
I wonder about the names. Who exactly pushed for the creation of the Federal Dept of Education? I'm pretty sure that it only existed after 1971 or so. Were the people who pushed and formed this abomination communists? Were they in the same group with Ayers? Were they associated with Saul Alinsky? An accurate history with names would be a start. Whoever did it is, IMO, guilty of heinous crime. As Bill Bennet said, I paraphrase, "If what was done to the USA's education system had been done by a foreign power, it would be tantamount to an act of war." I fully agree, and I wish we could try and prosecute those who did it. I'm sure they're all still alive and have tenure.

The farm next door burned several years ago, smoked steam for days

OT

Have to get this off my chest (no pun intended):

Gosh - this commercial where the couple paid ONLY $1500 for the dining room table and chairs. All my living room furniture TOGETHER cost less than that, if you don't count the rugs (I'm a rug freak), and all my seating is leather.

I'm a believer in outlet stores, Overstock, and used office furniture stores.

306 ColdPizza  Fri, Nov 28, 2008 6:34:16pm

Noticed all of those birds flying around for the last 3 days at the Taj. In those old buildings there is tons of birds nests in the crevices of the brick work, and they are getting fried. sad.

I don;t think it was a bad guy, If you noticed, there was someone standing to the right (behind the car) who looked like he was covereing the one going out the window

321 Randall Gross  Fri, Nov 28, 2008 6:40:09pm

Well now they've done it, PETA and the Audubon Society will be on their assses big time. On top of the fact that Al Qaeda is now on the left's shit list due to calling Obama a "house negro".

Have any of our ''talking heads'' on TV said what the response would have been if this attack had taken place in the USA?
I have to think we'd have acted more slowly and more innocent people would have died.

re: #61 reine.de.tout

Let me clarify: I do not advocate terrorism.

However deluded and desperate people have used it to effect some poorly defined political end. The difference between a terrorist and a revolutionary is that the latter fights for a well known, and well understood cause. A terrorist hopes that the brutality he wreaks will cause people to rise up and make vigilante justice. As you might imagine, it is not terribly effective. This is what so many self-styled revolutionaries do not understand, whether it was Timothy McVeigh, Osama Bin Ladin, Yassir Arafat, or anyone else.

There has to be a grass roots support behind the revolution, or the act will only be seen as terrorism. There has to be a well understood manifesto. Without it, they're not revolutionaries, they're terrorists.

You sure make me doubt and think that i was wrong defending that small headness.
