This got somewhat lost near the end of the last thread, and I kinda want to vent some more.
Watching the news and confusion coming out of Mumbai over the past few days has made me really glad to live in America in times like these. We must always remember that the world is, in general, a really crappy place to be, and the safety afforded to us by our US citizenship ought to be held in the highest regard. America has for generations stood as a shelter of freedom and liberty throughout storms of totalitarianism, ranging from fascism to communism. Despite the current fiscal hardships, our economy is by far the most advanced in the world. Despite the hardships we face in Iraq and Afghanistan, our military is by far the most advanced and powerful in the world. Despite what the Daily Kos has to say about the PATRIOT Act, the United States of America has the most effective balance of government power, individual liberties, and self-rule in the world.
As you can see, we've got a lot to protect. The primary emerging suspect in the horrific attacks on Mumbai is a conglomeration of terrorist groups, with possible Qaeda movement. It's not so much the brutality of their attack which should scare you, as anybody can perpetrate a brutality, but rather their coordination. According to Fox, approximately sixty (60) terrorists came ashore in inflatable boats and then proceeded to attack a police station and stole the police uniforms. They then spread out to multiple targets throughout the city and began their attack. The fact that gunmen in the Oberoi hotel were still fighting a couple of hours ago is a testament to the planning that went into this sickening operation.
It is clear that the world faces a very serious terrorist threat. However, no number of dead terrorists can soothe the issue. We must fire on all cylinders to defeat the terrorist threat, both physically and ideologically. Our armed forces must splatter the suicide bomber and hand a lollipop to the kid behind him. Any examination of the ideology of radical Islam will reveal that it is not so much a religious sect as it is a political movement. The literal translation of Islam is "submit". The political Islamist movement values submission to a higher power over the sin of self-determination. Everything we do in our lives as Americans requires self-determination, whether it be walking the dog or casting a vote. The tenets of the Islamist political movement are inimical to freedom and liberty. In order that I may proceed, I ought to make a distinction between "Islamic" and "Islamist". The first is a reference to the religion, and the second is a reference to the political movement. The former is innocuous, if it does have a bad habit of turning a blind eye to the latter. The latter, however, must be stopped entirely. Richard Watson wrote a very interesting article for Granta from which I deduced that the Islamist political movement absolutely cannot be stopped by appeasement, as the ultimate endgame as demanded by the Islamist concept of jihad is the establishment of a global Islamist state governed by Shari'ah. THAT means the elimination of self-determination, which is absolutely to everything we hold dear in the United States as well as across the globe.

Zombie, I feel the same way. I think about the two Chabad families here and it breaks my heart to know exactly what kind of people they were, and also to know what kind of monsters their murderers were, and finally to know that there is equivocation all around such that we are not permitted in supposedly polite society to distinguish between the two. One of the major Japan papers today ran an article saying Muslims need more social welfare programs in India. Fine as a separate issue but huh!?
This cannot stand. We cannot tolerate this as a world civilization.

On the bus today, I was talking to a couple, and I asked them where they were from. When they said they were from India, I replied, "I guess you're glad you're here this week."
They looked at me confused, asking, "Why? Is there something special going on in Las Vegas?"
My jaw just dropped. Obviously, they hadn't seen the news, and I told them all about Mumbai and the terrorism. At first, they didn't believe me (would you?), and I told them to ask anyone on the bus, or anywhere else. As soon as several other people verified what I was saying, they became very concerned.
They got off at their hotel, and I imagined they were probably contacting friends and relatives as fast as they could.
Can you imagine being on vacation, not paying attention to the news, and then finding out something like this is happening back home?

Also, I happened to walk by a mosque today in San Francisco just as it was letting out after Friday prayers. You never saw so many smiles and elated people in your life. They weren't exactly high-fiving each other on the sidewalk, but close; everybody had a big grin and they looked like they were on top of the world.

It's more like how some people think when they get their weekly paycheck. wow, I can buy, this and this and this. Then wonder why the electricity got turned off.
Or, why so many people sign financing papers for car's they can't possibly afford, then get p!ssed-off and try to report the repo agent to the police for stealing their car.

Terror works. At least for now. OBL didn't believe we had the stones for a protracted fight, Obama's election confirms that world view, to them. The "defeated" Spain. And the rhetoric out of Europe is one of accommodation.
Any reaction other than a massive retaliation, with long term follow up, including down the hunting of all supporters and financiers is regarded as weakness on our part.

Wal-Mart Worker Dies When Shoppers Break Down Doors
Black Friday took a grim turn when a New York Wal-Mart employee died after bargain hunters broke down the doors to the store, pushing him to the ground.
The 34-year-old male employee was pronounced dead an hour after shoppers breached the doors to the shopping center in Valley Stream, Long Island, about 5 a.m. Friday and knocked him down, police said.
"He was bum-rushed by 200 people," Jimmy Overby, the man's 43-year-old co-worker, told the New York Daily News. "They took the doors off the hinges. He was trampled and killed in front of me. They took me down too ... I literally had to fight people off my back."
A 28-year-old pregnant woman was also taken in for observation and three other shoppers suffered minor injuries during the incident, police said. The pregnant woman and the unborn baby were reported to be OK, said Sgt. Anthony Repalone, a Nassau County police spokesman.
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. in Bentonville, Ark., closed the store in Valley Stream for several hours after the stampede. It reopened shortly after 1 p.m.

I am thankful for something we're not seeing. One of the weirdest, most perceptually jarring things about the economic crisis is that everything looks the same. We are told every day and in every news venue that we are in Great Depression II, that we are in a crisis, a cataclysm, a meltdown, the credit crunch from hell, that we will lose millions of jobs, and that the great abundance is over and may never return. Three great investment banks have fallen while a fourth totters, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average has fallen 31% in six months. And yet when you free yourself from media and go outside for a walk, everything looks . . . the same.

They are desperate, deluded, clinging to false hope and empty rhetoric. The gatekeepers of information and analysis do not have the proper vocabulary to bring insight or power to their coverage. The proper vocabulary is grounded in reality, not in the world as we wish it to be. The reporter is no better than the values and education that he or she has received. Our gatekeepers are inadequate to these events, they fear truth and must resort to rationalizing, projection, repression, the entire arsenal of denial. Can they talk at all about evil? They don't believe evil exists. In other times, people believed in evil as a metaphysical darkness of heart; or, theologically, as an absence of good. The Century of Blood taught that evil is as common as head-lice. Our century is teaching us that evil is the axiomatic consequence of laziness, cowardice and lies.

You wondered earlier, zombie about what was going through the terrorist's mind as he/they attacked. I think something similar to what describe in the above post about the mosque after prayers. Elation. We all saw the grinning young murderer, poster-boy for jihad. I think they felt important, superior, powerful, justified.

Will it ever become necessary in this country to ackowledge that Islam itself is the problem? The peaceful Muslims in America keep their heads down and speak as little as possible. They do not condemn terrorism they just defend their religion. I am not advocating pogroms but just to be realistic about the enemy.

Efforts to support global climate-change falls: Poll
PARIS - There is both growing public reluctance to make personal sacrifices and a distinct lack of enthusiasm for the major international efforts now underway to battle climate change, according to findings of a poll of 12,000 citizens in 11 countries, including Canada.
Results of the poll were released this week in advance of the start of a major international conference in Poland where delegates are considering steps toward a new international climate-change treaty to replace the Kyoto Protocol, which expires in 2012.

Mumbai police: Last Taj hotel jihadists killed
Not all news organizations are ready to declare the siege over at this point. "Taj operation over with all militants dead, police say," from France 24, November 29:
Indian commandos on Saturday killed the last Islamic militants holed up inside Mumbai's Taj Mahal hotel, ending the more than two-day assault on India's financial capital, the city's police chief said.
"All (combat) operations are over. All the terrorists have been killed," Mumbai police commissioner Hassan Gafoor said, 59 hours after the attacks began.
Extremely heavy gunfire had been heard from inside the hotel at dawn Saturday, with a major blaze also breaking out as Indian commandos fought to clear the building of Islamic militants, an AFP correspondent said.
Massive flames in the ground floor and first floor of the hotel appeared to be spreading rapidly though the building, the last area in Mumbai where gunmen were still holed up more than 58 hours after coordinated attacks rocked the city.
Firefighters rushed to the historic hotel, a large part of which was obscured by a huge cloud of smoke.
Military sources had earlier said that commandos were fighting up to three heavily armed militants left inside the hotel.
On Friday, Indian security forces launched massive assaults on Mumbai’s Chabab Jewish centre as well as the Taj and Oberoi hotels on Friday to hunt down the remaining terrorists responsible for a deadly two-day hostage drama in India’s economic capital.
At least 155 people – including two French nationals and two US citizens – were killed and about 370 others wounded in a series of coordinated attacks across the city.
At the city’s landmark Taj Mahal Palace hotel, FRANCE 24’s Lise Thomas-Richard said the fighting had been intense during the peak of the operation. “We are reaching the final stages of the operation on the Taj Mahal hotel,” said Thomas-Richard. “I hear explosions or shooting every two minutes.”
Earlier, police found explosives capable of causing "major damage" after regaining control most of the Taj Mahal hotel from armed militants, a senior police official said Friday.
Commandos exited the luxury hotel shortly after the assault and were greeted by a cheering crowd, but fighting soon resumed inside the building.

Indian government sources: Seven Mumbai jihadists from the U.K.
An update on this story. "Seven Mumbai gunmen are from 'Leeds and Hartlepool'," from the Mirror, November 28:
Seven of the terrorists who brought carnage to Mumbai are British, Indian government sources claimed yesterday.
They said two British-born Pakistanis are under arrest. And another five suspects are said to have been born and raised here.
Two of the seven are from Leeds, one is from Bradford and one from Hartlepool, the sources claimed. All are aged between 20 and 26.
The claims were made as the death toll in Mumbai reached 155 – with predictions it could go as high as 200.
The Hartlepool suspect was allegedly found in the five-star Taj Mahal Palace hotel, scene of some of the most horrific killings. The man from Bradford and one from Leeds were allegedly discovered on the 17th floor of the Oberoi-Trident Hotel.
A second man from Leeds was allegedly captured near a jetty after a gang of around 25 terrorists landed in Mumbai by boat on Wednesday.
The suspects were allegedly found with documentation, possibly including passports, which revealed their origin.
The sources say they also spoke to each other in a heavily-accented Punjabi common in UK Pakistani communities. Gordon Brown yesterday urged caution saying it was “premature” to draw any conclusions.
He said Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had not told of him of “any evidence at this stage” that Britons were behind the massacres. [...]
The Foreign Office and MI6 were last night trying to establish the facts amid chaotic scenes in Mumbai as Indian commandos continued operations to flush out the remaining gunmen.
If the terrorists are Britons, the UK security service will have to urgently discover how they slipped through the surveillance net. In the wake of 7/7 London bombings the monitoring of militant and disaffected Muslim groups has been tightened up.
The security services were criticised after 7/7 for not keeping better track of the bombers. Since the early 2000s Britain has had an unwelcome reputation as a haven for Islamic radicals. [...]

Peggy Noonan on the Great Depression
I like her common sense perspective.
I read her column earlier and one thing in it made me wonder. Apparently she wasn't wondering it, or at least she didn't say so. I'll bold the part I mean.
It is good that 2008 was a seven-point win by someone, and not a 50-50 contest forced into resolution in the courts. Imagine what it would be like now, the general tone and feeling of the country, if at this moment we were arguing over hanging chads and bent ballots. I am thankful that more than half the country is, in at least one area, politics, happy, and that the 46% who voted the other way accepted the outcome as America always has, peacefully and with good-natured resentment. So many are hoping for the best, as if hoping for the best is a function or an expression of patriotism, which to a degree it is.
She says to imagine what the tone of the country would be if it had been 50-50 and we were back into hanging chads, etc. She doesn't ask us to imagine if the 46% who peacefully and with good-natured resentment accepted the outcome, if that 46% were the Obama/Biden voters. How peaceful and good-natured would their resentment be? Just something I was imagining.

No they don't. Islam denies that Jesus is the Son of God.
Koran. Surah 4:171
"4.171": O followers of the Book! do not exceed the limits in your religion, and do not speak (lies) against Allah, but (speak) the truth; the Messiah, Isa son of Marium is only an apostle of Allah and His Word which He communicated to Marium and a spirit from Him; believe therefore in Allah and His apostles, and say not, Three. Desist, it is better for you; Allah is only one God; far be It from His glory that He should have a son, whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth is His, and Allah is sufficient for a Protector.
and Surah 9:30
"9.30": And the Jews say: Uzair is the son of Allah; and the Christians say: The Messiah is the son of Allah; these are the words of their mouths; they imitate the saying of those who disbelieved before; may Allah destroy them; how they are turned away!
and Surah 10:68,69
"10.68": They say: Allah has taken a son (to Himself)! Glory be to Him: He is the Self-sufficient: His is what is in the heavens and what is in the earth; you have no authority for this; do you say against Allah what you do not know?
"10.69": Say: Those who forge a lie against Allah shall not be successful.
and there are at least 8 other times where the Koran denies Jesus is the Son of God.
This also proves that Allah is not the God of the Bible.

No they don't. Islam denies that Jesus is the Son of God.
Did I say they did?
My point is that Mohammed ripped off Jesus and everything else in the Bible and perverted it to justify his amoral life. Jesus is still Jesus, he just does different things under the Islam fantasy.

From Zibtluda, Inc. v. Gwinnet County (bold is mine):
The 2001 Ordinre: #156 Killian Bundy
Killian, in Re: Love Shack from Judge William Pryor
The 2001 Ordinance regulates comprehensively the operation of adult entertainment businesses in Gwinnett County. Establishments governed by the 2001 Ordinance include those where persons perform either fully or partially nude; where more than ten feet of floor space or five percent of net sales are derived from the sale of adult magazines, books, or movies; and adult movie theaters, minitheaters, video stores, arcades, hotels, and motels. 2001 Ordinance § 86-71. The 2001 Ordinance, in other words, regulates commercial entertainment akin to the “Huggin’ and a kissin’, dancin’ and a lovin’, wearin’ next to nothing” that the B- 52s famously described as occurring in a “funky old shack.”

Balad is the launching point for many various aircraft. From the C-5 Galaxy transport to the Predator unmanned aerial vehicle and everything in between. In addition, the U.S. Army has about 200 helicopters - including Apaches, Black Hawks and Chinooks - based at Balad.
It is the largest and busiest aerial port operation in all of Iraq. In a typical month at Balad, as much cargo and five times as many people move through there as does through Dover Air Force Base in Delaware.
No only do airmen at Balad keep track everything coming onto and going from the base but also of all military aircraft operating in all of Iraq. Radar antennae at the base scan the entire country, providing a complete image of everything in the airspace over Iraq. This information is scrutinized and disseminated by a half-dozen airmen working in two bus-sized containers crammed with high-tech equipment.
. . .
As of Febuary 2006, Balad AB was home to about 25,000 U.S. troops.
That's a very good question. Guess we'll have to read the fine print of the Iraq Status of Forces agreement, if and when it's ever ratified by Iraq.
/Balad's the whole crux of our foothold in the region

I've been pretty in and out this week with all the goings on's etc. but it seems to me that the 'international' idea of America having a 'good' image in the world is the idea of the U.S. standing down and doing nothing when evil flourishes.
I don't want a 'good' image if that is correct. I want to be the most atrocious hated country in the history of country's if it means taking the fight to the freaks in order to keep good people safe and decent people in a good living condition.
In my opinion it seems that the 'international' community is already taking advantage of the true meaning of Obama's election: "Paper tiger kitten".
They know they have a 'blank' check on terror now, and they are going to use it.

That reminds me of a joke.
A senior couple were reminiscing of the days of old. The wife then stood up in front of a mirror in her bedroom.
"Dear, how is it that you love me still? My face is wrinkled with age, my hair is white as snow, my body is frail and sags everywhere. Oh, please just let me hear you tell me one thing that is right about me!"
The husband contemplated this request then spoke with empathy in his eyes, "Honey, your eyesight is just fine."

Much of what you said is true. It is refreshing to have the president squarely named right off.
But don't forget the senate race in Minnesota, where democrat Al Franken has his forces trying to steal an election in the courts. If the courts are agreeable for Franken, and he can choose what court, he will win when in true fact he has lost already by two official counts. The final winner will depend on glass-ball reading fortune tellers devining how a voter really wanted to vote, regardless of what their ballot shows.
Now, in the usual scheme of things, one democrat senator more or less would be of little importance. But, in this case it may be possible for the democrats in Congress to pass through any Senate legislation they want, and the Republicans will not have the forty-one votes needed to block the legislation.
Result: In a short time the democrats will control the bench decisions made by the U.S. Supreme Court.
Further result: The Constitution of the United States of America will become simply a piece of paper with a few words written on it that have been the law of this land since our country's inception. It will no longer be our law.
In fact, with there now being several willyl-nilly justices on the S.C., many of the directions our national government is taking are patently illegal in my opinion. For example, what in the Constitution gives the U.S. Government the right to take away my hard-earned dollars for supporting people I wouldn't freely give a nickel to?
Our country is about to be reshaped by forces out of our control, and, as usual, we cannot depend on the third branch of our government to act independently from the other two.
This probably won't affect me, but the eight grandchildren I so deeply love may have much less freedom than I have been blessed with.
It is also probable that most of you footballers will be badly affected. Most of you seem to have much greater intelligence than the average person. In the past that has been the main factor in financial comfort. Now, in insiduous, non-transparent ways, you may find being smart is a legal handicap. Think hard and you will see how that can be true. Think "disproportionate taxation", "redistribution of wealth",
"Acorn", also "Community Organizer". Note that "Community" pertains to only a certain class of voters, and you probably aren't in that class.
Sas, Sad, Sad.

re: #249 BlueCanuck
Best story ever about Henry Ford:
During the world war, a Chicago newspaper published certain editorials in which, among other statements, Henry Ford was called "an ignorant pacifist." Mr. Ford objected to the statements, and brought suit against the paper for libeling him. When the suit was tried in the Courts, the attorneys for the paper pleaded justification, and placed Mr. Ford, himself, on the witness stand, for the purpose of proving to the jury that he was ignorant. The attorneys asked Mr. Ford a great variety of questions, all of them intended to prove, by his own evidence, that, while he might possess considerable specialized pertaining to the manufacture of automobiles, he was, in the main, ignorant. Mr. Ford was plied with such questions as the following: "Who was Benedict Arnold?" and "How many soldiers did the British send over to America to put down the Rebellion of 1776?" In answer to the last question, Mr. Ford replied, "I do not know the exact number of soldiers the British sent over, but I have heard that it was a considerably larger number than ever went back." Finally, Mr. Ford became tired of this line of questioning, and in reply to a particularly offensive question, he leaned over, pointed his finger at the lawyer who had asked the question, and said, "If I should really WANT to answer the foolish question you have just asked, or any of the other questions you have been asking me, let me remind you that I have a row of electric push-buttons on my desk, and by pushing the right button, I can summon to my aid men who can answer ANY question I desire to ask concerning the business to which I am devoting most of my efforts. Now, will you kindly tell me, WHY I should clutter up my mind with general knowledge, for the purpose of being able to answer questions, when I have men around me who can supply any knowledge I require?" There certainly was good logic to that reply.
That answer floored the lawyer. Every person in the courtroom realized it was the answer, not of an ignorant man, but of a man of EDUCATION. Any man is educated who knows where to get knowledge when he needs it, and how to organize that knowledge into definite plans of action. Through the assistance of his "Master Mind" group, Henry Ford had at his command all the specialized knowledge he needed to enable him to become one of the wealthiest men in America.
From Napoleon Hill, "Think and Grow Rich".
/yeah Ford might have been a dick about some things but he knew a few things you could learn from.

Yes, it still would have happened, but we likely wouldn't have the pres elect saying there's only 1 president I'm getting briefed by the current admin on the situation but I'm currnetly adopting a hands off policy on this. Had McCain been elected I beleive he'd be in hte meetings with Bush trying to work out a measured approach to the murder of 5 of our citizens. Instead we have the little boy who finds it ok to interfer with U.S. diplomacy(asking Iraq to halt withdrawl planning til he's in office) except in situations where he has to work for a solution.(the Credit crisis and now Mumbai).

Adding to my anger is seeing some of today's newspapers -- nary a word of this story on the front page of some of them.
By covering up the crime, they become accomplices.
If I recall correctly the Allies only hanged one propagandist at Nuremberg.
Obviously the willing collaborators in the Mainstream Media didn't get the message or they believe that the message does not apply to them.
Should our present internal political situation devolve into an open civil war, I would suggest doing a proper Roman style decimation of the willing propagandists in the MSM. That is, hang every tenth anti-human hack.

I doubt that the House of Saud gives a rat's a$$ about Ahmadinejad or Hugo. What they do care about is keeping their home-grown Wahabists reasonably satiated- this being done mainly by covert payoffs channeled through the country's financial hierarchy (which includes the bin Laden family) as long as the radicals keep their radicalism outside of the country. Like most Arab/Islamic Crescent governments, the ruling family in Saudi Arabia isn't personally popular, but as long as they keep the standard of living reasonably high (by the region's standards), their people toe the line.
But if their GNP, and the local SOL drops, that could be the opening for the radicals to pull a Khomeini on them, and they know it. The fact that the two holiest sites in Islam, Mecca and Medina, are in-country makes Saudi Arabia a prime target for Islamist takeover anyway, on the principle of "whoever controls them gets to be Caliph".
It can now be seen that giving control of the Arabian Peninsula to a single family, as the British did after WW I, was an error of colossal proportions. T. E. Lawrence warned them that they were making a mistake, and was ignored (in fact, very nearly cashiered for his effrontery, as Lowell Thomas Sr. related in With Lawrence in Arabia). Like an earthquake, the aftershocks are still with us today.

However Islam is in persuit of genocide for those who do not follow big "Mo". For genocide to happen, there must be certain preconditions. Foremost among them is a national culture that does not place a high value on human life. A totalitarian society, with its assumed superior ideology, is also a precondition for genocidal acts.[49] In addition, members of the dominant society must perceive their potential victims as less than fully human: as “pagans,” “savages,” “uncouth barbarians,” “unbelievers,” “effete degenerates,” “ritual outlaws,” “racial inferiors,” “class antagonists,” “counterrevolutionaries,” and so on.[50] In themselves, these conditions are not enough for the perpetrators to commit genocide. To do that—that is, to commit genocide—the perpetrators need a strong, centralized authority and bureaucratic organization as well as pathological individuals and criminals. Also required is a campaign of vilification and dehumanization of the victims by the perpetrators, who are usually new states or new regimes attempting to impose conformity to a new ideology and its model of society.[51]

A thought occured to me as I was pondering the "creepy cult" of 0bama worshippers who are 100% certain that The One will cure everything from global terrorism to diaper rash.
I think 0bama's almost complete lack of experience actually helped him to get this overwhelming degree of confidence from people.
Here we have libs who, in their primitive, savage thinking, want to project their every wish on a presidential candidate. If 0bama actually did have some substantial legislative or executive experience, they might see things on his track record that would suggest that he can't do any of this. For instance, why can't we imagine he'll balance the budget and cure poverty? He's never failed before--he's never had to balance a budget before. Why can't he cause world peace? His foreign affairs track record doesn't show any problems--he doesn't have a foreign affairs track record. Why can't he create legislation to cure the environment? It's not like there's a single piece of legislation out there with his name on it that was bad for the environment. In fact, there isn't a single piece of legislation out there with his name on it at all.
0bama is like a newborn baby. The parents are so certain their little boy will grow up to be a famous surgeon with a beautiful family living in a nice big house. There's nothing in his past to prove otherwise.
Imagine their disappointment when he turns out to be a crack whore.

No, but we can and must uproot their support system without committing genocide and without using mass deportations, concentration camps or any other fascist methods.
Those who provide financial support, training or physical support to terrorists should be charged with crimes of aiding and abetting violence and if convicted they should be sentenced under the criminal law. Those who indoctrinate the terrorists should be denied the right to teach by having their teaching certificates pulled and being denied public funding. The schools which teach violent jihad should be put on notice to cease and desist on pain of being denied public funding and/or ultimately shut down.
There is much, much, more that can and must be done to win the war against violent Jihadism within our legal system and without allowing ourselves becoming fascists.

Yes - but their history and politics are in terms of slogans and group-think, encouraged and promoted by schools and subtly fed by media with every portrayed value and action of the lead characters in fictional stories.
Only a serious and professional incursion into the media business will have a chance of countering this, and I don't mean just news.

Bill Roggio has some good analysis up, it's stuff we know already, but he points at ISI in one part in present tense, I'm not willing to go there yet, but Bill could be right:
In several of those attacks, an Indian Mujahideen operative who calls himself Arbi Hindi e-mailed the media to claim responsibility. Arbi Hindi's real name is Abdul Subhan Qureshi, an Indian national who is believed to be behind many of the recent terror attacks inside India. Qureshi, a computer expert, is believed to have trained hundreds of recruits to conduct terror attacks in India. He is often called India’s Osama bin Laden.
Indian intelligence believes the Indian Mujahideen is a front group created by the Lashkar-e-Taiba and the Harkat ul Jihad al Islami. The Indian Mujahideen was created to confuse investigators and cover the tracks of the Students' Islamic Movement of India, or SIMI, a radical Islamist movement, according to Indian intelligence.
The Lashkar-e-Taiba and the Harkat ul Jihad al Islami receive support from Pakistan's Inter-Service Intelligence to destabilize India and wage war in Kashmir. Both of these terror groups are local al Qaeda affiliates in Pakistan and conduct attacks in India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. The Indian “occupation” of Kashmir helped spawn these groups.

I wonder why no reporter has gone to mosques in the US for their reaction to this? Perhaps they already know and just want that info kept from the US people. I too remember after 9/11 going past muslim areas in Brooklyn, where candies and smiles were a dime a dozen. And I don't mean to villify most muslims, cause I know many muslims who were horrified and angered by the attacks, but there are far too many who are joyous by these attacks to give me any comfort that there aren't more plans in the works here. Indeed a recent screed by an AQ propagandist is saying that AQ should make life intolerable by the kinds of small attacks going on in Baghdad and Iraq, rather than spectacles like Madrid and the WTC. If that is so, the Taj attack may be the first on this new strategery.

Good Morning Lizards ...
Prayers for the families of the victims in India ...
I have never been a prejudiced person ...I was not brought up that way ...even being from the deep south growing up my parents would never have tolerated any form of it ...but today I feel I am becoming that way when I see Muslims in stores and other places ...I hate it and I am fighting against it ...When the Somila workers in Shelbyville wanted to change Labor Day it started to hit me that they really do have an agenda in this country ...
After 911 I was so shocked but not really aware of the real agenda ...I am now and I feel it is changing me ...I am not the most aware person but probably more than most in this country as after this election I cannot believe the people who just do not pay any attention to politics at any level ...
The people here are most aware and I have learned much from reading this blog ...I do not know what to do because I do not like to live with hatred in my heart for anyone but I feel it for these Islamic murderers ...
Like Zombie I have seen men coming out of their worship places dressed in their muslim clothes and I have almost wanted to yell at them ...I do not know what to do with these feelings ...
I pray for the strength to fight what I feel is creeping Sharia in our country ...

Yes - but their history and politics are in terms of slogans and group-think, encouraged and promoted by schools and subtly fed by media with every portrayed value and action of the lead characters in fictional stories.
Only a serious and professional incursion into the media business will have a chance of countering this, and I don't mean just news.
The news, the schools, the popular media and so on. Anti-communism, the bombing of Hiroshima, Vietnam, Iraq. We're drilled to believe we were the bad guys in all these things and you're right, all these lies are boiled down into catchphrases that are easily disseminated and memorized: "McCarthyism", "Unnecessary atomic bombing", "American Imperialism in Asia", "Bush Lied, People Died".
A young co-worker from Dubai was telling me about a class project they had to calculate how many people ultimately died in the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I asked him if his professors made them calculate how many people would have died had the bombings not occured. He said no. I asked if he had been taught about the Rape of Nanking, the Bataan Death March, the Manila Massacre and so forth. He hadn't heard of any of those.
For those of you scoring at home, 200,000 give or take 100,000 people died from immediate and long-term effects of the atomic bombs. At least 100,000 people were murdered by retreating Japanese soldiers in the Manila Massacre. The Japanese Rape of Nanking claimed 300,000 victims and as many as an additional 500,000 in the surrounding areas. At the time of the atom bomb attacks, between 100,000 and 250,000 Asians per month were dying from Japanese aggression or hunger and disease caused by the war.
But that first stat about Hiroshima is the only one the media or schools will ever tell you or your kids about.

re: #29 zombie
I'm still having a difficult time visualizing exactly what goes through the minds of there terrorists when planning an attack like this.
"We want to establish a worldwide caliphate. So, we'll kill some infidels now. That will really earn us the world's sympathy, and aid us in our quest to convert everyone." Say what? Not only are their actions beyond evil, they're also irrational and completely counter-productive. Are they just that stupid?
Then again, the attacks aren't just to bring about the caliphate, but to prevent India and Pakistan from engaging in rapprochement and closer ties. That would seriously harm the ability of the jihad to move forward if the Pakistanis become friends with the nation that they've fought multiple wars and skirmishes with over the past 50+ years.
When you look at the attacks from that angle, it makes perfect sense. Give the impression that Pakistan was behind the attacks, and India has to make the determination that it was an act of war that must require a response - out of domestic pressure to respond and seek justice for those killed, and to prevent future attacks. Get India to strike at Pakistan, and the jihadis get to spread via the violence and discord sown in their wake.
Kaus suggests the possibility that the attacks may have been meant to affect the outcome of India's November elections but were delayed as a result of tighter security. In other words, they were hoping for a Madrid bombing outcome - get the current government thrown out in favor of one that is more likely to appease.
Throw in the specter that the ISI could have played a role (thus far only speculation), and you can see just how dangerous this situation is for all of South Asia.

re: #315 Crusty
0bama is like a newborn baby. The parents are so certain their little boy will grow up to be a famous surgeon with a beautiful family living in a nice big house. There's nothing in his past to prove otherwise.
Imagine their disappointment when he turns out to be a crack whore.
Related to that, I just got this email:
IT'S ALL ABOUT THE ICE CREAM
The most eye-opening civics lesson I ever had was while teaching third grade in 2000. The presidential election was heating up and some of the children showed an interest. I decided we would have an election for a class president. We would choose our nominees. They would make campaign speeches and the class would vote.
To simplify the process, candidates were nominated by other class members. We discussed what kinds of characteristics these students should have. We got many nominations, and from those, Jamie and Olivia were finally picked to run for the top spot.
The class had done a great job in their selections. Both candidates were good kids. I thought Jamie might have an advantage because he got lots of parental support. I'd never met Olivia's mother, although she'd evidently coached her daughter on her campaign.
The day arrived when the kid candidates were to make their speeches. Jamie went first. He had specific ideas about how to make our class a better place. He ended by promising to do his very best. All of the class applauded.
Olivia came to the podium. Her speech was concise. She said, "If you will vote for me, I will give you ice cream." She gave them a bright smile and sat down without saying another word.
The class went wild. "Yes! Yes! We want ice cream," the class chanted.
She surely would say more, I thought.
She did not have to. (Olivia's mother had wisely coached her daughter.)
A discussion followed. How did she plan to pay for the ice cream? She wasn't sure. Would her parents buy it, or would the class pay for it? She didn't know. The class really didn't seem to care. All they were thinking about was ice cream. Jamie was a forgotten candidate. Olivia won by a landslide vote, and I noted that as a valuable civics lesson for the future.
Today that chicken has come home to roost. Almost every time Barack Obama opens his mouth he offers everyone ICE CREAM, and 60% percent of all Americans blindly react like delirious nine year olds. "Get in line! This nice man wants to give us lots of free ice cream! YAY!"
60% of the US public are exhibiting a 'freeloader' mentality. The other 40% percent are mature enough to see through this delirious BS, knowing full well that somewhere along the line someone will have to feed and milk the cows, sell the milk to the creamery, prepare the fields, purchase seed, plant and harvest the crops, pray for good weather, manage the hired help, raise the kids, pay the taxes, plan and cook the meals, fuel and drive the tractor, put up the hay, and last but not least, shovel the cow shit out of the barn. It all has to be done.
THERE NEVER HAS BEEN FREE ICE CREAM, AND THERE NEVER WILL BE.
Hundreds of years ago the very first United States legislators donated their time in office as a Public Servant without pay. Today things are just a bit different from that. However, if our elected legislators in Washington DC had always been honestly and fairly doing their job with genuine "Public Service" in mind, then 60% of today's US citizens wouldn't be compelled to be a freeloader.
Wake up, America. In spite of any slick sales pitch, there is no free lunch.
Yup. Ice cream.
.

I heard this also on Fox. They initially attacked a police facility of some kind and stole uniforms that they then put on to go to the hotels. The hotel's staff was compromised and re-con was occurring for days if not weeks Some of the terrorists had also checked in as guests while others came in by sea with guns, ammo, and explosives. Very well planned and executed by well trained disciplined pigs. Pakistani ISI and Al Qaeda both have their fingerprints all over this.

I see Samantha Power is back on Team Obama. Adiser who insulted Clinton has role in transition.
Power is listed on Obama's transition Web site as part of the team reviewing national security agencies. Her duties, according to the site, will be to "ensure that senior appointees have the information necessary to complete the confirmation process, lead their departments, and begin implementing signature policy initiatives immediately after they are sworn in."
This is important because her coming back now in light of that history with Hillary proves how much Obama really does value her judgment. Hmm. Is she perhaps the first one to get pulled back out from under the bus and given a seat? Hard to say, there were so many.
But get this from Power's Wiki page. She has advocated for US Military presence in Gaza as a protection force. Hard to imagine that the same people who think Iraq was a debacle and a quagmire would even consider rolling into Gaza to play security guard.
Regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Power said in 2002, that if she were an advisor to the U.S. President she would recommend investing "billions of dollars, not in servicing Israel's military, but actually investing in the new state of Palestine, in investing the billions of dollars it would probably take, also, to support what will have to be a mammoth protection force [in Palestine], not of the old Rwanda kind, but a meaningful military presence", even though this may alienate "a domestic constituency of tremendous political and financial import".[7]

Here's a relevant LINKY for the above. Until they lost WWII, the Japanese were absolutely convinced that they were the Master Race, with a divine license to treat all non-Japanese as if they were pigs or cattle.

How many nukes does India have? How many does Pakistan have? Can India decapitate the Pakistan arsenal with a first strike? Is Israel able to ensure the survival of a second strike capability? I predict that if India strikes Pakistan then Iran launches on Israel. Israel needs a secure sea launched capability. I do not think that Pakistan has the capacity any longer to resist the Jihadis. If they did then they could garauntee the American supply route and support an Indian presence in Jalalabad. As it is we face a fighting withdrawal and possible link up with an Indian invasion.

In his classic Holocaust text, The Sunflower, Simon Wiesenthal recounts the following experience. As a concentration camp prisoner, the monotony of his work detail is suddenly broken when he is brought to the bedside of a dying Nazi. The German delineates the gruesome details of his career, describing how he participated in the murder and torture of hundreds of Jews. Exhibiting, or perhaps feigning, regret and remorse, he explains that he sought a Jew—any Jew—to whom to confess, and from whom to beseech forgiveness. Wiesenthal silently contemplates the wretched creature lying before him, and then, unable to comply but unable to condemn, walks out of the room. Tortured by his experience, wondering whether he did the right thing, Wiesenthal submitted this story as the subject of a symposium, including respondents of every religious stripe.

Good Morning Jacksontn,
Kudos to your self admission of conflicting emotions. If all of us were to evaluate our personal feelings this morning, I think they'd be quite similar.
It is difficult for me to walk into a store and when I see a burka dressed woman with 5 trailing little ones behind her, I have to stop myself from wanting to directly ask her if she is okay? I mean safe, at home? Is she living a life of Islamic slavery here? and of servitude to her husband? The women that I see always look so tired and thin and sad. The children are unruly. They bounce around the store grabbing and touching everything and anything. She just keeps walking on, and they trail behind her...
The answer to that emotional conflict that makes us stronger and more evolved in emotional capability and capacity is that WE don't allow our admitted contempt of Islamic fascism to be used as our motivator to precipitate more contempt. WE can discern when our contempt is validated by unlawful violations. Until and when that violation actually occurs, we keep our behaviors and actions in check. But we constantly are vigilant to possible and future offenses. We are capable of doing whatever we need to do to protect ourselves and this country if we must. We (conservatives) are now content to just maintaining a high level of suspicion and vigilance amongst the anti-semitic ( that means anti Christians and Jews) Islamics and their financial networks, and legal representatives here in the USA. Don't admonish your feelings. They are quite appropriate and healthy!
Hope you find your personal "balance" this good day.

Big news here:
[Link: www.thenews.com.pk...]
LAHORE: President Asif Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani have decided to abolish the National Security Council, the institution criticised for eroding the supremacy of elected leadership by providing a greater role to the armed forces in the decision-making process. The NSC was established by former president Pervez Musharraf after toppling the Nawaz government in 1999.
“The president and I discussed the issue today and we decided to dissolve this institution which we don’t like,” the prime minister said at a press conference after reaching the provincial metropolis from Islamabad on Friday evening.
He said the government wanted to make the National Security apparatus foolproof and effective, adding Gen (retd) Mehmud Ali Durrani had already been appointed as the National Security Adviser to effectively deal with the issues concerning national security. He said PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif, as prime minister, had also rejected the proposal of the NSC. However, he did not give details of the alternative mechanism the government intended to put in place for handling the national security issues.
Gilani reiterated that Pakistan was not involved in the Mumbai terrorist incidents and, while talking to the Indian prime minister by phone, he had conveyed concerns of Pakistanis and the government over the incident besides telling him that Pakistan wanted excellent relations with its neighbours, including Afghanistan and India.

Even more frightening. The news has said they knew their targets and so the city. This would indicate that some were Westernized/Europeanized enough to blend. And then go shooting.
Maybe I should write familiar enough with Western/European culture to blend

The depravity of the terrorists continues plumb new depths:
The gunmen had set parts of the hotel ablaze as they played cat-and-mouse with scores of India's best-trained commandos, known as the Black Cats. They left bodies in their wake, some with grenades stuffed into the mouths or concealed underneath.A dozen suspected terrorists hit 10 sites around Mumbai on Wednesday night, and the last holdout was the Taj hotel. "There were three terrorists, we have killed them," said J.K. Dutt, director general of India's elite National Security Guard commando unit.
Nine of the attackers were killed, a tenth caught alive. He told interrogators they wanted to go down in history for an "Indian 9/11", and were also inspired by the bombing of the Marriott hotel in Islamabad in September, Times Now TV said, quoting an unidentified defense ministry official.
Local news channel NDTV also reported the captured militant told investigators the gang aimed to blow up the Taj hotel and hoped to kill a total of 5,000 people. It is thought that the terrorists underestimated the strength of the building's stone exterior.

Sadly, terrorism has worked so well for so long, I don't see how it can ever be countered with anything but overwhelming (and preemptive) force. The Palestinians are the working example. The longer they slaughter schoolkids, launch rockets into Israel, and breed new militants, the more the vaunted "International Community" wants to give to them. We've seen similar examples in Britain, Spain, etc.
Only in today's ass-backward world would those of us who want to stop (once and for all) these savages be considered the "war-mongers" or the "xenophobes".

Yep- you've got it. This is the front we need to be relentlessly fighting on. Funding, broadcast network, entertainment - raising questions that the sloganeer educators would be hard pressed to answer. Then, education reform - slow and subtle - not something they can get their guard up to fight. We must give them a crystal-clear picture of real history, without the ideologists realizing it. This must be the first step. I think the first step to this, is convincing the Christians that forcing people to conform to our religious values via legislation is not in our best interests, and promotes intrusive totalitarianism. If they realize this, if they see it, they can divert their energies, and their funding into the great re-education project.

Thanos, could you translate the politics of that for us? The way I'm reading it is that they think the Pak security services were involved in Mumbai - or that they thought they at least knew about it.
Whoops, was translating the wrong msg. sorry. I think this has been coming awhile, they announced something like this was coming even prior to Mumbai happening. What they are doing is dismantling the agency created by Musharraf to quell disent, and which gives the ISI/Military more input into decisions. It's like saying "we are taking apart the Department of Homeland security, and sending it back to its pre-9/11 component agencies"

I think they originally wanted the ISI DG to go to help the investigations, but that India checked them on that as it would create too much furor, a more jr investigator, and someone probably more skilled will go instead.
No, I meant this
LAHORE: President Asif Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani have decided to abolish the National Security Council, the institution criticised for eroding the supremacy of elected leadership by providing a greater role to the armed forces in the decision-making process. The NSC was established by former president Pervez Musharraf after toppling the Nawaz government in 1999.

Diplomatic meeting over boundary issues postponed between Pakistan and India, this has also been percolating in the background :
Notably this is the second time that the meeting on Sir Creek has been postponed. Initially it was planned for August 19 but was put off due to the July 7 bombing of Indian embassy in Kabul for which New Delhi blamed ISI, a charge Islamabad denied.
With unleashing of the blame-game by the Indian government following the Mumbai terrorist attacks and instant finger-pointing at Pakistan it seems unlikely that Sir Creek talks would be held any time soon. Indications are that the inevitable sullying of atmosphere and domestic political compulsions in India may slow down, if not stall, the ongoing peace process.
The Sir Creek dispute over maritime and land boundaries is one of the eight bilateral issues being discussed by the two countries under the composite dialogue framework, aimed at confidence-building, normalisation of bilateral relations and dispute resolution.
The eight items included in the composite dialogue framework include Siachen, Tulbul Navigation Project/Wullar Barrage, Sir Creek, economic and commercial cooperation and friendly exchanges, terrorism and drug trafficking, peace and security, and Jammu and Kashmir.
Earlier this week the interior secretaries of the two countries met in Islamabad to discuss the vital issues of terrorism and drug trafficking as part of the ongoing peace process. The composite dialogue, which started in February 2004, is considered an integral part of the ongoing Pak-India peace process. However it has been marked by ups and downs.

The depravity of the terrorists continues plumb new depths:
They wanted to kill 5,000. They managed 183. Actually, that means kudos to the Indians, even though they are oh so upset. Does the 183 include the terrorists? To put it in context, in 2007 in New Mexico (1.2m total population), 413 drunk driving car crash deaths... again I don't know whether this figure includes the drunk drivers. If we round up the drug gang statistics also, I would say India should work at it but take credit for limiting the statistics.

Yup. I first noticed that fact on my thermometer -40 years ago.
That's about the same temperature where propane stops gassing off, too. So if you're relying on a propane heater, you need to slightly heat your propane tank so it stays above -40 degrees. Generally just one or two light bulbs close to the tank give off enough heat to keep things working.

re: #480 Sunlight
Consider that on 9/11, the Islamic terrorists sought to murder 25,000-50,000 - the normal occupancy of the towers on a regular business day. They killed a fraction of that figure because the towers stood longer than they figured - and yet it was still a horrific toll.
In 1993, the terrorists sought to topple the towers, killing tens of thousands. Six were murdered and more than a thousand were injured.
The difference of a few meters meant the difference between six dead in 1993 and thousands. Had the towers been hit lower than they were on 9/11, it could have brought the towers down much sooner - murdering thousands more.
The scope of the attacks should be worrisome because it shows intention. That they didn't kill as many as they hoped for is a testament to luck as much as anything. It means that the Indian authorities were able to prevent much greater bloodshed, even though there are reasons to believe that there were significant shortcomings in the Indian response as the attacks were underway.

The Original Afghan Girl
The perfectly PC Geographic accepts propaganda for the Taliban, accepts purdah, and then goes on and shills for money for a charity in this girls name. A charity that will help girls but somehow not challenge "the customs and traditions of her culture and religion."
Sharbat Tells Her StoryWhen Sharbat agreed to have her picture taken for the second time in her life, she came out from the secrecy of her veil to tell her story. She wanted the people around the world who knew her face to know that she survived the refugee camp in Pakistan.
She married and had four daughters, one of whom died in infancy. She lives in obscurity, according to the customs and traditions of her culture and religion.
A member of the Pashtun ethnic group in Afghanistan, Sharbat said she fared relatively well under Taliban rule, which, she feels, provided a measure of stability after the chaos and terror of the Soviet war.
According to Matson and McCurry, Sharbat Gula has returned to anonymity; the latest publicity about her name and face is unlikely to draw attention to her in Afghanistan. "She will not give another media interview and she wishes not to be contacted," Matson said. Her family has relocated to a different village in a remote part of Afghanistan, where she will continue to live her life in purdah, he added.
Asked if Sharbat would benefit financially from her famous image, Matson said she was "being looked after."
Emphasis added.

This column looks familiar, so we may have discussed it earlier (was it published earlier in other newspapers?).

re: #521 lawhawk
That's where I would agree with you. Weapons of mass destruction in their hands will change the dynamic. That should be our aim... to prevent, detect, intercept, etc. using the terrorists without WMDs as a practice for the ones who eventually will have WMD.

Good morning all. The Chicago Tribune has an article this morning about how many in African American Churches see the election of BHO as the will of God.
One parishoner at Fellowship Group Baptist Church in East Point Ga. opines that the loss of Hillary in the primaries , the financial crisis & the McCain selection of Sarah Palin were Providential to elect BHO.
As I see it two problems, there will be lots of diasppointment & opposing the One on ideology and/or policy will be viewed by many as opposing God.
Lunacy!
These people also said that Hurricane Gustav was the Will of God, so I don't give a damn what they think is the "will of God" anymore.
Plus they're all nutty as fruitcakes, so there's another reason not to pay attention to what they say.

Challenged on Guard report, CBS convened a Bush-friendly review panel, which nonetheless did not declare the broadcast inaccurate.
It was based on a number of interviews and, notably, on several documents -- chiefly memos from Bush's squadron commander -- whose authenticity was immediately challenged.
Yeah, kind of like the Hitler diaries were challenged.

Not only is he losing , he is arrogant & has made no friends at the University. The Chicago Sports writers are brutal. They liked Willingham , But not this guy.
There was a story the other day about Weiss visiting a recruit & his father last year. He got to the house & told the kid to get a camera. Then he said 'Take a picture of my Superbowl ring."

It's not LGF- it's the internet. There's plenty of weirdness everywhere. LGF is popular, so they see what goes on here, and they think they fit in. Many of us do just fine here- but then you get the people with issues too. It's easier to conceal on the net, but eventually it shows. But it's not until the mask slips that the real ugliness gets shown- usually after banning.

True that. But, sheesh, it seems like the angels of our better nature have fled from the population of half the planet!
That's because they aren't talking to the Father. They would be much better off if they did, but like many children, they think they know better than Him. I know I have had that problem repeatedly, and I always have to go back and apologize.

The rule of thumb I always heard was that 10% of any group of people are crazy.

Unless the group is the far left, in which case the percent tracks notably higher.

oh no. We have to pray. When will the slaughter in Africa end. The Congo, Somalia, Eritrea, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Liberia, Chad... and now Nigeria.
When will people come to see that nothing but death, pain and destruction comes from the wonton and senseless violence?
How many more mothers will have to cry themselves to sleep at night before the slaughter ends?

If things ever do calm down in Afghanistan/Kashmir/Pakistan that's where they will move next. (not that they aren't operating there now, just not with full effort)

Only their Christmas music. Mannheim Steamroller, too. Their regular season tunes should never leave the elevators, IMO.

Also, I happened to walk by a mosque today in San Francisco just as it was letting out after Friday prayers. You never saw so many smiles and elated people in your life. They weren't exactly high-fiving each other on the sidewalk, but close; everybody had a big grin and they looked like they were on top of the world.
I can just imagine what the imam said in the sermon.
That only exacerbated my bad mood.
You are being paranoid. When I left Synagogue this morning, I would describe the people as happy, and elated. People who believe in G-d feel good after religious ceremonies. They feel ... blessed.
It is very unlikely that an Iman in SF was telling his congregation that they had a win in India.

I didn't know that there are only, like, three people in Mannheim Steamroller until just now. The rest of the instruments are pre-recorded on a synthesizer.

If you're trying to find a way to advocate the large-scale violation of civil rights without openly sounding like a fascist, just to avoid being banned, be aware that it's not going to fly around here.
I am not a fascist.
I did not and do not advocate violation of civil rights.
I advocated killing terrorists but noone else.
I advocated confiscation of their property and property of their supporters.
I advocated stopping the teaching of violent jihadism in schools by pulling the licences of teachers who persist in doing so and by denying public funding to such schools, and ultimately closing them down if they continue to teach violent jihad.
I advocated cutting off their funding.
I am not a fascist and I resent being called one.
If I am not welcome here I will leave quite voluntarily.

I think we know you are not a fascist. But we endeavor to avoid even ambiguous sentences that could be construed that way. I have been deleted a couple of times, and I came back and rephrased it. I think Charles, and most of us, for that matter, do not want the irresponsible and inaccurate accusations against this forum to even have the appearance of substance.

I remember seeing a story on the evening news about that. I had a boss who had that picture--hugely blown up--on his wall. He absolutely loved it. I was not so enthralled; those eyes, to me, seemed to have never known love.
I've always thought she looked frightened.

Will it ever become necessary in this country to ackowledge that Islam itself is the problem? The peaceful Muslims in America keep their heads down and speak as little as possible. They do not condemn terrorism they just defend their religion. I am not advocating pogroms but just to be realistic about the enemy.
BTW welcome to lgf.
Human nature is the problem? Human nature is to keep our heads down, speak as little as possible when radicalism and violence are ascendant, defending our religion or tribe or cultural group is also part of the human default setting. Can we blame Islam itself, anymore than we should blame the Jim Jones massacre on Christianity? Evil people manipulate the religious facet of human societies for their own power agendas.
I know many people believe that if supernaturalism were to be eradicated, so that everyone understood the world as the atheist does, the manipulations and crimes carried out using religion would cease. My thought is that the religious impulse is innate and ineradicable: we will worship. An ideology can function very well by tapping that reservoir in the human psyche, functioning within a religion or supplanting religious systems.
When possible, political animals among us tap into that facet of human nature to ride the waves and currents, to manipulate the incredible power that flows from that source. Maoist communism, Nazi Hitler worship are the two most obvious examples of ideologies riding the religious impulse to power, despite Party hostility to religion.

The essence of Christianity is told us in the Garden of Eden history. The fruit that was forbidden was on the tree of knowledge. The subtext is, All the suffering you have is because you wanted to find out what was going on. You could be in the Garden of Eden if you had just kept your mouth shut and hadn't asked any questions. -- Playboy Interview, April 1993
