Let's hope this is Charles' way of saying that it's time enough to put the nail into islamist extremism.

Elimate it from our populations.
From our Jails.
From our streets.
From our Schools.
From the Mosque.
From the Citizenry at large.
From the Gays.
From the Abolitionists.
From the Indians, the Hindu's.
From the Iranians and the Urdu.
From Russia, China, Indonesia.
From.. too many places to list. Shameful islam. Shame.

What atrocity will not be to big or too large? Do we not recall the seizure and killings of several school children just two years ago?

If the Citizenry at Large will bond together and voice against islamist extremism, then perhaps the Citizenry at Large will enjoy safety.

There is and never will be any safety, laughter, forgiveness, peace, co-existence, prosperity, or equality in this shithole that is currently called islam.

Every night on Nancy Grace she features a soldier who died in the war. Very sad. Maybe it's time we did this for the victims in this war. Let's take a minute to contemplate the torture and murder of Rivka Holzberg. Let's see her sweet face, beaming with dedication and love. Let's see her son, Moishe. Maybe if we make this personal, people will start taking it seriously. Because the west so far is unmoved by the carnage .

Meanwhile back at the saloon,

On September 27th, a Chinese Shenzhou space capsule came within 45 kilometers of the International Space Station, and two of the three crewmen made the first Chinese space walk (going outside the spacecraft in their space suits.) Later, a small, 88 pound microsatellite (the BX-1) was released from the Shenzhou. This was supposed to be a science experiment, but the fact that the Shenzhou came so close to the International Space Station, and then released a smaller, maneuverable (via small gas jets) BX-1, indicated another satellite destruction drill. The BX-1 could easily have been directed at the nearby space station, and destroyed it.

sheesh, can't we get President wannabe to speak to them?

Many of you probably heard that last October was the warmest October on record. It turns out that NASA's scientists can't tell October from September:

"So what explained the anomaly? GISS's computerised temperature maps seemed to show readings across a large part of Russia had been up to 10 degrees higher than normal. But when expert readers of the two leading warming-sceptic blogs, Watts Up With That and Climate Audit, began detailed analysis of the GISS data they made an astonishing discovery. The reason for the freak figures was that scores of temperature records from Russia and elsewhere were not based on October readings at all. Figures from the previous month had simply been carried over and repeated two months running."

So, tributes to the fallen, military and civilian, by all means. But they must be put in a wider context, so that such tributes cannot be used to serve as sheep's clothing for fifth-column wolves.

As jaded as I am about the media, I do think their intent is to create a subtle undercurrent that saps at the national will. And unfortunately, they are succeeding, IMO.

re: #44 buzzsawmonkey

I am unfamiliar with Nancy Grace, so I apologize in advance if I am talking out of turn. I believe that it is important to mention war dead--soldiers, certainly, and civilian victims such as you suggest.

However, I have heard NPR do features on fallen soldiers--and, moving as the tributes are (how could they not be?), they are always subtly slanted to emphasize, not the nobility of the fallen soldier, but the pain his sacrifice inflicts on those he leaves behind. And there is never any coverage which suggests that the soldier is serving in the interest of a good or noble or worthy national objective. Thus presented, the tributes to the fallen--objectively appearing to honor them--serve to negate their work, their lives, and their deaths, and the cause for which they gave all. They are designed to undercut and ultimately denigrate what they pretend to honor.

So, tributes to the fallen, military and civilian, by all means. But they must be put in a wider context, so that such tributes cannot be used to serve as sheep's clothing for fifth-column wolves.

The best tributes to our soldiers are usually found in their local papers, you can find these by Googling "Killed" then clicking "news" . They are happily not frequent nowadays, but I read most of them the past two years.

The lack of memorializing the fallen has probably also to do with the wrong perception that all of these incidents/wars are unrelated. There's simply no concept in the West yet that we are under siege by the IslamNazis.
I agree that it would be an excellent enterprise to work on an extended maybe virtual Memorial that starts listing and describing all the victims of Islamic terror and all the fallen soldiers in the subsequent wars against them, starting with the murder of Bobby Kennedy.

The year of the two winters the snow was so deep Paul had to dig down to the trees to continue logging operations.

It got so cold that the boiling coffee froze so fast it was still hot when frozen.

When the men spoke, their words froze in mid-air and when it thawed in the spring there was a terrible chatter for weeks.

As jaded as I am about the media, I do think their intent is to create a subtle undercurrent that saps at the national will. And unfortunately, they are succeeding, IMO.

The effect is certainly negative.. I do attribute this phenomenon in part to the debasing, trivializing impact of our popular entertainments. Some have called it the Oprahfication of America, a sort of maudlin unreality to every turn of events. Sloppy agape, and symbolic gestures playing to the most easily aroused emotions of the public.

However, if we are in fact taking part in a real war, then there is something more shameful at work.

I try to wrap my brain around the media worldview. When I succeed, I experience the kind of mental gymnastics required to exempt this war from being counted as a just war. It simply MUST be an unjust war, to prevent popularity and unity around the President from hampering the future success of the Democratic Party. Bald, simple, partisan motives which surfaced as soon as it was calm enough around the country to float out some trial jabs at stupid old W.

A Republican was trying to lead. Republican bad. Democrat good. War must be bad and illegal and unjust.

Now a Democrat, not the evil instigator, the noble inheritor of a W debacle must lead. In fact, the media helped elect the most specialest, the darlingest, deariest, jim-dandyest Democrat in all of recorded history.

Watch. Watch the resurgence of Democrat patriotism, chest thumping and finger pointing at the bad Republicans who questioned them, questioned them, the noblest and most intelligent, moral generation in history! Liberals and Progressives filled with the milk of human kindness!

Watch them soften the bad news and trumpet the progress, watch them justify all the mistakes of The One and help The One launch whatever response his "team" persuades him will be most attractive and expedient.

"Paul Bunion's feet were once so sore, you could not only see smoke coming off of them, but fire, as well! In the process of running to Lake Michigan to put the fire out, his feet accidentally started the Great Chicago Fire!"

Much better.

Unconstitutional, but you're entitled to your opinion.

Not necessarily, simply reclassify Islam as a violent political ideology and the US constitution would permit it to be banned. Since Islam does in fact consider itself both a religion and a political ideology it is in fact very possible to ban Islam from America.

Thanos, I have always admired your posts. However, there has (not will) there HAS become a time when the general populous will no longer tolerate the threat of islamists.

Now, you may wish to learn just what the "general populous" means:

It is a collective society; perhaps to start in the USA, but already in place throughout Europe.

We're not going to play to these pussies with guns. I might get the banning stick, but you know what? When it all comes down to "done and said", theh islamists are nothing but pussies with guns.

Several years ago my wife was traveling with a team to Las Vegas from St. Louis. One guy was sitting next to an older woman and somehow they got to talking about TV. At one point he commented that he really liked Monty Python reruns but PBS wasn't showing them all, and he couldn't find videos of the show. She told him that maybe her SIL Steven could help -- he was in business in Hollywood and might have connections. "I don't know," he said, "It was a British show and they can be hard to find." She assured him if any one could help, Steve could. Later in the flight, he asked he what she was going to be doing in Vegas. She told him her SIL had his jet there and she was going to catch a ride on it to visit her daughter. Turns out the SIL was Spielberg. I don't know if he ever got the MP shows.

Oh please, not this again. Thanos is right, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights do protect freedom of religion in this country, and this hare-brained idea of "banning Islam" has no more chance of ever becoming a reality than it did the last hundred times it showed up in our comments.

I thought hate speech was against the law. Some groups have to follow and other groups don't. You don't have to outlaw a religion, but haul the people within them that are spewing the most awful hate speech off to jail.

Ah, but what is defined as hate speech? There lies another slippery slope.

Charles ~ I noticed that my comment from earlier today was deleted. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend.

There is a concept of free speech in America. The only time someone can get arrested for saying something is if it directly incites violence, or if they threaten to kill the president.

re: #174 Thanos

That's a very healthy and enlightened attitude, Thanos. Too many self-proclaimed atheists are anti-clerical bigots, and it's good to see one who recognizes the social value of faith traditions, even though he's not himself a believer.

Personally, I am as close to an advocate of absolute freedom of religion as you'll ever find. I believe that all people should be able to seek Truth in whatever manner they desire, so long as their practices don't violate criminal law or basic individual rights. Every incident of Muslim evildoing we've discussed here -- murder, conspiracy, enslavement, etc. -- is something that's already covered by existing law, and can be addressed without violating First Amendment protections.

re: #178 hillbilly geek

Well, when you tell people to go out MURDER other people it should be against the law. I don't think that should be too hard for most people to grasp that that is hateful.
The Mafia is not allowed to get away wth it.

Mine is the routine about his car keys:

"One time, I accidentally put my car key in my house. My house started up. So I drove it around for a while.

"I drove it up on the freeway, and stopped. I went out and yelled at everybody, 'Get off of my driveway!

"A policeman came up to check out all the trouble. He asked where I lived. I said, 'Here!'"

I do agree: that qualifies. The limit for me to swing my arms should end well short of your nose, etc. The concept of "hate speech" seems to me to be an elastic one. Seems incitement to commit violence and murder could be classified in some other way.

Thanks for the support, there aren't many atheists out there who like the idea of a nation with a firm base in religion levened with a secular reason driven constitution, so I can understand how my defense of science & liberty can get misinterpreted by some.

Yup.

Just saw this quote:

It is disconcerting to reflect on the number of students we have flunked in chemistry for not knowing what we later found to be untrue.
--quoted in Robert L. Weber, Science With a Smile (1992)

...hmmm. Have to think on it for a bit.

193 hillbilly geek  Sun, Nov 30, 2008 2:47:42pm

I really gotta stop, but I found another one:

This reminds me of a story of two students who wanted to celebrate the long and light summer evening by fishing in their boat in the Norwegian fjord. But first they went to the lab, grabbed a bottle with the magic label 96%, and set off. After some time, the one said to
the other:
- I am afraid we have done something wrong. This is not ethanol, it is sulphuric acid.
Said the other:
- I know. I have just peed a hole in the boat.

If he [0bama] can pull this off, and help that decent Iraq take root, Obama and the Democrats could not only end the Iraq war but salvage something positive from it. Nothing would do more to enhance the Democratic Party’s national security credentials than that.

As I told my sister recently that I believe I would have more liberty as a christian in this country, with our current constitution, if all the politicians were atheists (true atheists, not anti-christians, mind you) and the churches were full, than to see one more christian politician reveal him/herself a complete hypocrite to those who supposedly share their faith.

BTW -- Thanks for your support

There are SO MANY good digi-cams on the market today that it makes the head spin. Every surviving major Japanese camera maker has great stuff, as do others like Samsung, GE and Polaroid. Basic advice - get a digi-cam with 6 megapixels or more, and "shoot" you heart out. Disclaimer - mine is 3.2 megapixels - and - I am backed up by a 35mm film slr.
