Jimmy Carter is doing his weird pseudo-diplomacy thing again, traveling to Syria to meet with chinless ophthalmologist/dictator Bashar Assad—just days after Assad gave Syria’s highest award to a terrorist monster: Of Course: Carter To Hold Tete-A-Tete With Assad In Damascus.

Here’s Assad with the child-killer Samir Kuntar. (Courtesy of MEMRI TV.)

Following is an excerpt from a TV report on Syrian President Bashar Al-Assas honoring released terrorist Samir Al-Kuntar, which aired on Syrian TV on November 24, 2008:

Anchor: President Bashar Al-Assad awarded released Lebanese prisoner Samir Al-Kuntar the Syrian decoration of the highest degree, out of appreciation for his record in the struggle, for his steadfastness, and for his patriotic and pan-Arab positions. President Al-Assad, who met with Samir Al-Kuntar and his brother Bassam, said that Al-Kuntar was not only the leader of the prisoners, but was also the leader among honorable free men, and that his adherence to Arab rights, despite all that he has been through, has made him a symbol of the struggle and freedom in Arab countries and throughout the world.

Al-Kuntar said he was happy and honored to meet the president and to be decorated by him. He added that the brave positions of Syria, under the leadership of President Al-Assad, and Al-Assad’s constant support for the honorable resistance and his rejection of any unjust settlement constitutes a pillar of support for the people of the resistance and free men. This helps the prisoners to remain steadfast, despite their plight in the prisons of the Israeli occupation.

Just what we need. (although we knew this already...) An ex-president who embraces terrorists and dictators and generally makes us look like fools throughout the world. Didn't he do enough of this back in the day?

Notice he isn't helping out at natural disasters (hey, don't they need more houses built in New Orleans?), or helping rescue/aid child soldiers or slaves, or help ease hunger, or take on brutal juntas... no. Let's go embrace another leader of a brutal terror state, one that is running clandestine nuclear/bioweapon programs, and makes state heros out of killers of children and unarmed civilians.

I actually respected Carter for his habitat for humanity project then he lost all respect with his '93 unsolicited treaty with NK which gave them aid and allowed nuclear weapons development. NK would have fallen five years ago if we had not been supplying NK communists with the resources to stay in power. And we keep following the same stupid path...

First of all, Carter doesn't go anywhere without the full consent of The Democratic Party. You'll notice there were no images like this during the campaign..

[Link: www.usatoday.com...]

He's probably there to thank the powers that be for keeping terrorism at bey during the presidential campaign, and to discuss payback. The Democrats managed to keep the entire issue of terrorism far hence from the American psyche and the American headlines during the election campaign. Somehow Hamas and Hezbollah flew away from the headlines. This helped a Democrat get elected because the American people favor the Republicans more on this issue. Without any terrorism of note during the election campaign the entire subject hardly came up at all, especially in the debates. The whole issue of security for Israel became a grandstanding opportunity for blowhards without any need for specifics. Note there were virtually no rocket attacks during the campaign.

Egyptian paper urges top cleric to purify his hand after Peres handshake

Several opposition newspapers and lawmakers in Egypt called on the country's top Islamic cleric to resign Saturday for shaking the Israeli president's hand at a conference.

. . .

The paper called on Tantawi - the sheik of al-Azhar, Sunni Islam's pre-eminent institution and oldest university - to ritually purify his hands after the shake.

Time for a little Carterpalooza:

For the uninitiated who think Jimmy is a kindly old Sunday School teacher who is merely misguided.

Arafat, for his part, railed against the Reagan administration and its alleged “betrayals.” Rosalynn Carter, taking notes for her husband, interjected, “You don’t have to convince us!” Brinkley records that this “elicited gales of laughter all round.”
...
If you are sickened by the thought of a former U.S. president and a former First Lady of the United States and the career terrorist Yasser Arafat all sitting around bashing Ronald Reagan . . . you and I think alike.

Carter didn't go senile. Reagan went senile several years after he left office and never tried to betray this country or try to do anything but good till his last day. Carter has been anti-American and evil since his first day in office and probably before.

Reading this, and thinking that maybe it IS A TRUE assertion, renews my hope for America in the face of Barry Sotero's assault on America's Constitution, ideals and practical realities!

We survived Carter, we'll survive (and maybe even de-fang) Barry Sotero! :D

I don't see how anyone can get double digit inflation, interest, and unemployment in only 4 short years. Incompetence alone would never account for that.

Incompetence alone would not account for it, but incompetence coupled with allowing KGB "active measures" against the US to proceed unanswered most certainly would.

Along with tax cuts Reagan made it official US government policy to break the back of the KGB in the US and that, as much as the tax cuts, caused the economy to recover.

He is thoroughly vile. He should be shunned by all right-thinking people in the world. It says a lot about the Democrat Party that they treat them man with so much respect.

Navajo is a very, very complex language. While our English is noun-based, Navajo is a verb-based language. The tenses are not only telling you how many objects are under discussion, but also if they are flexible, near, far, hard, soft, etc., etc. There are also sounds that English does not have and are very difficult for non-Navajo speakers to properly pronounce. One really needs to grow up speaking it to be really fluent.

You also have to be really careful about what you're saying. A friend related a story to me about a young man, a tribal member who was really trying to learn his language, addressing a meeting of their National Council. I forget what the topic had been, but he wanted to say that they should have a public ceremony of dedication for something. What he actually said was they should have a ceremony of public urination. Oops. Everyone took it in good humor, but the poor guy!

Carter loves to accommodate the enemy. He accommodates every enemy from the Islamic world, he accommodates every enemy from the communist world. He is ashamed of America. That's why the world loves him. He needs to dress more like a courtesan, it becomes him.

someone should tell him that the thuggish brutes who he coddles and enables, despise him and find him revolting and cowardly and weak.
they suffer his presence because he is a useful idiot.
they sense he is a sick, easily manipulated old fool w/ a perverse personal agenda.

Makes for a nice balanced acid/alkaline salsa.
If I use pineapple in the can, I don't add extra lime because of the citric acid in the juice.
If I use peaches or mango, I add 1tsp. more lemon juice.
It's a nice change from the standard just tomatoe based salsa.

Yes. The weird thing is the idea of war by suicide is horribly appealing to a particular type of person, or cult, but it is never a winning strategy. As Paton pointed out, he did not intend to die for his country, but to make the other bastard die for his. That's how wars are won. Suicide bombing has been a strategic failure for Palestinians and the AQ in Iraq. And it looks like the Taliban/AQ are about to repeat it. Pakistan is pretty much getting ready to be a national suicide bomb.

I literally squatted in a bucket of water for half an hour until the pain went away.

David, I showered and soaped and scrubbed for over an hour after loading up a Tang jar with ortho-chloro-para-benzo-malono-nitrile powder, better known as CS agent... it is a powder 10-times FINER than talcum, gets down into the ridges of your fingerprints...

Funny!

Felix Unger would leave nasty notes to Oscar in the "Odd Couple" about what a slob Oscar was, he'd sing the note F.U.!

I remember that from the movie...
Oscar: stop leaving little notes on my pillow Felix! I hate little notes! "We're out of cornflakes. F.U." It took me two weeks to figure out F.U. meant Felix Unger! Your drivig me out of my mind Felix!

A friend who was teaching a Navajo class once wondered if she should be teaching a Japanese national who was a student... and she was only partially joking, but it was all right. That's the problem with so many of the indigenous languages dying out-- we won't be able to use them again during the next big conflict. Pakistan is pretty much getting ready to be a national suicide bomb.

fairly rational assessment...the Japanese had to be flat out killed to the man and yes the Kamakazi thing was a huge success...

Quick Hot sauce story. Bought a coffin of Dave's Ultimate private reserve when they first came out. My dad thought that he was a huge hot sauce user until that day. He put 4 drops on a plate of Spaghetti. He took a few bites, started sweating, and as I watched the color leave his face, he bolted from the table and went to the bath to have a serious talk with mother nature. My Step Mom, having grown up in Mass. and never had anything hotter than black pepper says , and I quote "Nothing could be that hot and them legally sell it on the market", so she takes her fork and grabs one single noodle from my dads plate and proceeds to eat it. As she fell from her chair, staggered to her feet, ran outside to the water hose opened it up full bore into her mouth, she glanced up to see the neighbors outside and pointing, so she stopped that and came running back into the house and grabbed
the spray nozzle from the sink. After 10 minutes of severe laughter, I gave her a glass of milk.

I know that drinking something sweet reduced the burning sensation if you've eaten to much pepper. There is some chemical reaction with sugar which neutralizes the capiscum. I don't know for sure, & I'm not about to test it, but dowsing the afflicted area with soda pop might work better than water. Keep it in mind should the need arise.

Frightening... but were the kamekazes actually an effective weapon?

Not really. At that point in the war, the Japanese were desperate enough to think that one man and his plane was an acceptable trade for a sunken enemy ship... but the planes had to fly relatively straight and level to their targets, which made them great AA targets.

Torpedo bombers, on all sides of the war, had the same problem...

Capsicum is fat soluble. The fat in the milk or butter can pick up the capsicum molecules and take them away from your tongue.

Yes, but keep in mind that we're talking about someone who thought a totalitarian theocracy in the Middle East was better than a less than perfect ally. And who thought that sanctioning a stable, if imperfect, African nation (that was surrounded by Marxist shitholes) to the point of collapse was a good idea.

I suspect it won't take much.

Family is important and good to hear that everyone is healthy. During these tough economic times we're stressing the importance of family with our children.

I just read this about Hedge Funders.

"There is no stigma now because so many people have lost jobs," she said. "The joke is that the new status symbol, instead of a Porsche or Ferrari, is having health insurance and a desk."

Karridine, in an ultimate sense you are right. Root causes, however, are impervious to us: lust for glory, lust for power, a taste for blood, these are the root causes. These cannot be exorcised, they must be excised by military and police action.

We've seen evil drive whole populations as the Third Reich consumed Europe. They were fanatic, without mercy, unmoved by prayers or exorcism (yes, it was tried on the Fuhrer). It took overwhelming military defeat, total devastation to stop the werewolves.

I'm not saying our parents and grandparents prayed in vain. I'm saying that their military intervention was the only earthly means of ending the Third Reich.

Nor has anything changed in generations beyond memory. Peace through Strength.

IMHO that military intervention was sustained by our parents and grandparents prayers.

There is Evil and there is Good and each of us must choose a side.

Our enemies have chosen poorly, but we need to keep praying because it is the only thing allowing us to hold on to Good.

Evil is pernicious and it seeks to claim us if we let go of Good.
