Am I a hate-filled fanatic, or a pretty reasonable guy? Is the lizardoid army just like the Nazis, or are they a bunch of rational thinkers? Stay tuned for the next thrilling episode.

I love reading LGF, mainly because Charles is a rational conservative but his site attracts the entire conservative spectrum, so it's hilarious to see the WHARGARBLE ensue when he posts something against creationism, for example.

The craziness of that scale is that Commie and Fascist should be on the same side. It's sad to think that the left has succeeded in labeling those of a conservative bent that Fascism is a right side of the aisle mentality, when it's the exact opposite.

Speaking as a regular Farker, they tend to view LGF as a right-wing hate-site, and regularly post comments proving how Charles Johnson is an Arab-hating redneck,

15 jaunte  Sun, Dec 7, 2008 9:51:24am

Here's a funny analysis from one of the fark commenters near the end of the comment string. I think I've seen a mirror image (allowing for a few changes in detail) stated here a number of times:

"Left wing culture is fundamentally based in reason. Our ideas were arrived at through reason, and therefore we believe that by sharing the intellectual process that led us to those ideas, we can convert others to believe them.

Right wing culture is based in faith. Faith in God, faith that the free market works, faith that the government cannot be trusted. You can't convince someone to share your faith, since you have no evidence to back it up. You just have to shout down their faith and bully them into abandoning it."

I

love reading LGF, mainly because Charles is a rational conservative but his site attracts the entire conservative spectrum, so it's hilarious to see the WHARGARBLE ensue when he posts something against creationism, for example.

Charles posts rational thoughts concerning evolution all the time. I guess these folks must think that all conservatives are "young earth" christo-fascists who continually beat people over the head with the Bible.

Newsflash farktards, conservatives are a rational bunch with a plethora of views. The difference between you and us is that we are rational whereas you guys thrive on irrational hatred and a complete disregard for the facts.

Sure, we all want to think we're rational and the other guy isn't, but I'll agree with your poster. The left likes to think (!) they are empiricists and have no preconceptions, while the right tends to start from some kind of basis, be it religion or the status quo, and work from that. The right has faith in *something*, the left starts by rejecting the very idea of faith - yeah right they have faith in their rejection of faith, but still, to a first approximation, I think it's a fair description.

For me it isn't so much the question of the birth certificate and his birth status, its his arrogance in refusing the answer a reasonable question. A citizen (911 Truther or no, still a citizen) raised the question because he felt the information available was not conclusive. Obama's response was basically to lawyer up and stonewall the question.

Authoritarianism in the extreme may meet at meet, but I was referring to the history of the terms, not the particulars of what they have come to mean in today's world.

The Fascists were pretty much the same as the Nazis (National Socialists) except without the persecution complex. The Communists were all about world-wide socialism. This is why I said they should have been on the same side, rather than opposites of the scale...

The only thing I can conceive of when looking at it, is that it only appears as a bar since you looking at it straight down, when you see it from any other angle you will see a triangle with Commie and Fascists on the bottom end on either point and LGF being at the top.

Speaking of being reported to the media; George Will puts the smackdown on the "Fairness Doctrine".

Further subverting the "scarcity" rationale for government supervision of broadcast content, some liberals now say: The problem is not maldistribution of opinion and information but too much of both. Until recently, liberals fretted that the media were homogenizing America into blandness. Now they say speech management by government is needed because of a different scarcity -- the public's attention, which supposedly is overloaded by today's information cornucopia.

And these worrywarts say the proliferation of radio, cable, satellite broadcasting and Internet choices allows people to choose their own universe of commentary, which takes us far from the good old days when everyone had the communitarian delight of gathering around the cozy campfire of the NBC-ABC-CBS oligopoly. Being a liberal is exhausting when you must simultaneously argue for illiberal policies on the basis of dangerous scarcity and menacing abundance.

re: #15 jaunte

I also see in that comment the ever present desire of people to superimpose OTHER scales on the left-right scale. The most typical superimpositions are of religion/faith and patriotism. Although there is certainly correlation in this country, there are atheists on the far right and ferverently faithful on the far left. And while patriotism is typically most strong on the right in the US, many a Marxist loves their Marxist country.

The best example of this isn't in this country, but in places like Iran or Saudi Arabia, where it is religious faith that is driving the desire for a strong authoritarian government that controls all actions and punishes any personal choices that go against the religion. This is leftist thought, not right-wing, although leftists are quick to call them "far right" because they are extremely religious.

The favorite tactic of the left, though, is to equate racism with rightism. If they define racism as a right-wing characteristic, then by the reverse, all right wingers are racist, and their "proof" is circular logic.

I've seen people at LGF fall for this every week, and when they see the racism in the far left, they make statements that far right and far left bend around to meet each other. But I've never seen anything to show that people like the Klan are 'far right.'

re: #72 Occasional Reader

BTW, I inaugurated the Kimber yesterday at my range.

Also, field stripped and cleaned it, which was easy. Re-assembly... a bit less easy. The owner's manual literally says, "just do the breakdown steps in reverse order". Uh, those are lousy instructions!

They are, aren't they? The first time I stripped it, I thought, "Oh, that's not too bad - a little more complex than my Ruger, but not bad." Then I spent almost an hour on reassembly.

I'm faster now.

BTW, how was your first session? The only thing I wasn't used to was that lovely trigger pressure - I was used to my Ruger, which is much "scratchier" on the pull, and has a hard break point. After the first box, I was no longer squeezing too hard, and I started producing the "mickey mouse" groups.

Great gun!

In basic training in 1967, one of our platoon members field stripped an M-14, then put it back together with three parts left over...The DI was very "ahem" pleased...

It is an established practice of mine, whenever I begin to repair something, to set a coffee can aside for 'extra' parts after reassembly.

Sometimes I have to upgrade to a garbage can.

I'll label the can, then file it away for use when next the item breaks. Then, invariably, I have mislaid the can.

re: #74 Silhouette

Islam is Communism on brown acid.

He gave up on trying to get me to see things his way when I repeatedly countered his nonsense by illustrating the hypocrisy of his suggestions. The manual is pathetic. At times, it makes reference to parts that are nowhere defined in the manual, not even in the "exploded view" of the pistol on the back page. And it's a single manual for the entire "Custom II" family of pistols, even though mine, unlike the others, has a military length guide rod instead of full length, which makes a difference in takedown/assembly.

Zombie - Aren't those images from other sources and linked? Is there a reason that media types feel compelled to ask permission to use them from you, or are they trying to credit the work you did to collect them in the first place. Just curious, since the media normally feels free to rip off blogs without attribution.

What they want from me, usually, is detailed contact info for the copyright holder. A few naively assume that I must be the copyright holder, but most of the time they simply ask how they can get permission to reprint this or that image. My boilerplate reply is, "All the info i have is included in the caption," but if I'm in a kind mood, I'll point them in the direction of the Bibliotheque Nationale de France, or whatever. I don't have a link or a full attribution for each and every image in each caption.

And yes, then they do proceed to rip me off an not give me any credit. Par for the course.

re: #97 Vet_Missing_Parts (1LT, Ret)

I don't understand... basic field stripping of an M1911 is wonderfully easy (as long as you can line things up and don't shoot the spring across the room.

What does a Glock do? Pull a pin and it takes itself apart?

The broomhandle Mauser required one tool -- a screwdriver blade on a pocketknife would work. You had to turn the firing pin a quarter turn to pull it out of the bolt. After removing the part held by the firing pin, you could then pull the bolt, upper receiver, and action in about the time it takes to read this.

The only catch about reassembly involved a couple of small Jesus springs (pop those, they go "ping" and disappear, and you say "Jeeezus.") on either side of the trigger. Lose those, and the trigger doesn't work.

Zombie, that's hilarious.

179 Ayatollah Ghilmeini  Sun, Dec 7, 2008 10:41:08am

Ok let's play what if.

I am very dubious the birth certificate issue has any merit whatsoever but constitutionally it raises some very interesting questions of how a nation of the rule of law would deal with this should it actually turn out that BHO is not legally permitted to serve.

So let's pretend the court forces him to bring the document forward and he was born in a manger in Mombasa.

What then?

Obviously the election becomes, what can only be politely called stolen property. Not eligible to be President, Obama would either be forced to resign or be removed by court order. Leaving aside the riots and other social upheaval of the pre-emption of the golden child's rule let's look at the laws-

Could a court declare the election invalid? The legal theory of fraud could be raised and the court would be asked the judicially impossible question of would the Dems have won if voters knew BHO was not eligible. Democrats could argue with a straight face the court should not overturn the result of the election, the American people's dissatisfaction with the Republican party was so self evident and overturning the people's election verdict would destroy US rule of law. Republicans would argue Dem's mistake in nominating an unqualified nominee is reason enough to overturn, if their intraparty politics are so defective as to be unable to discern an unqualified nominee, they deserve what they get.

As I said this is really fun stuff to speculate about.

Since Obama was elected, and in all likelihood, sworn in before the court orders his ouster, he will be the sitting President at the time of the ruling of ineligibility. The Constitution says if the President can't serve, the VP steps in. This gives us four years of Gaffing Joe Biden.

Obama's removal would be a devastating blow to the Democrats. How dare they foist a fraud on the people. Biden would move to the Oval Office with no mandate and many voters openly saying they never wanted him to actually serve.

Now the Democrats could try to make amends by nominating McCain as VP as means of ameliorating their sin against our system. It is more likely that Bin Laden would convert to Judaism and I would become Muslim before that would happen.

As said, this all wild speculation and will never come to pass. It gets more interesting if the ruling would come before the inaugural. At that time, McCain could appeal to the court and demand his name be submitted to the electoral college but we have days to go before that happens. After the electors meet, Obama is all but home free to the inaugural and with the election a fait accompli, the court would be hard pressed to overturn that vote.

The idea that Obama's election would be even more tainted than Bush's 2000 win is delicious irony and a horrible precedent for future US elections.

She tripped the silent alarm, and then when the guy turned his back for a second, she reached under the counter a pulled out - an AXE. It had a long handle - reached the robber's arms perfectly. She started chopping away. He ran. She chased him out of the store.

As she said - you never know what you will do in such a situation.

I got an interesting comment the other day when I broke the Hamid Gul story from Mwaqar in Pakistan:

Time to arrest General (R) Hamid Gul, Brigadier (R) Ijaz Shah and other rogue elements in Pakistan’s intelligence agencies’Who killed Benazir Bhutto? Foot-soldiers of Al-Qaeda/Taliban/Sipah-e-Sahaba. Who were the masterminds? General Hamid Gul, Brigadier Ijaz Shah, other rogue elements in Pakistan’s ISI and other intelligence agencies.Who are their mouth-pieces in the Pakistani media? Irfan Siddiqi, Ansar Abbasi, Kashif Abbasi, Mushtaq Minhas, Hamid Mir, Roedad Khan, Orya Maqbool Jan
Who are their political supporters?Ijazul-Huq, Pervez Elahi, Qazi Hussain Ahmed, Imran Khan, Hafiz Saeed, and other pro-jihadi, pro-Taliban and sectarian elements.
Hamid Gul and other ISI former officers are on pay roll of ALQUIDA.
What Pakistan Government needs to do,is to arrest and punish former army generals of ISI like HAMID GUL ETC,HAMID GUL was ISI cheif once and is supporter of Osama and fanatic religious groups,he should be arrested by NATO forces and they should investigate him,he is invole in terrorism and supports all those mullahs who spread hate.Presnt Pakistani Govt is afraid of its generals and BHUTTO family was killed by these fanatic army and ISI generals like HAMID GUL.Terrorists are using poor people for their crimes, killing anyone any where is a crime aginst humanity.

My favorite incident was years and years ago, when I was living in a very bad neighborhood. I'd had a temp job that got me home just about midnight, and I was walking up the street.

This young idjit bounces out of the bushes at me and puts a knife against my side. He says, "Give me your money or I'll cut you."

I just looked at him, noted that the knife was angled down, so that it would just skitter off my ribs if he tried, and said, "No, you won't." And kept walking.

Remember the poor "Palestinians" that were brutally attacked by Hebron "settlers" this past week during the evacuation?

F**K B'Tselem

According to Orit Strook, of the Human Rights in Yesha (HRY) group, B'tselem's claims are bogus. "From an in-depth analysis of the event we have concluded that the video is an edited fabrication by B'tselem," she said.

The true version of what happened, according to Strook, is that "a Jew from Kiryat Arba descended through the wadi to the scene of the confrontation at Peace House in order to extricate his son from the area.

"A group of Arabs attacked the Jew with rocks in a way that endangered him and he had to fire in order to defend his life," she added. "The Arabs kept on throwing rocks and even wounded the Jew with rocks thrown at his head from close range."

Strook said that Human Rights in Yesha suspects that the Arab who supposedly suffered moderate wounds in the shooting was not really hurt at all, because he is seen getting up onto his feet at a certain point, after being shot.

"We advise the public to stop 'eating the lokshen' [Yiddish for 'believing the lies' – ed.] that B'tselem serves up and to treat their videos with great suspicion," she added.

B'Tselem just never stops with this crap.

You gotta start pissing people off more!

Actually, the scariest emails I've gotten in the last year or so came not from Muslim extremists but from hardline gay activists furious about my Folsom/Up Your Alley reports. Those actually had me nervous. Their threats were darker, most serious, and more do-able.

Do you think they might be able to identify you, like when the IndyMedia kids where "on the lookout" for you at their precious public temper tantrums anti-war protests? Or something creepier?

Actually, no, I never report anything, because that would create a paper trail to me. Reporting it to the police would actually increase the danger to me, because it would increase the ability of the threateners to track me down.

No, not "identify me" that way, using their eyes, but rather using their lawyers. And then, once they know who I am, then I start getting nervous.

The legal action would be frivolous, and only pursued long enough to ascertain my address -- then dropped. At which point the address can be promulgated far and wide (just as they did with the home addresses of Prop. 8 donors), in the hopes that a deranged extremist will take it to the next level.

Look I'm not even American but I can see why reasonable people would want the birth certificate question settled once and for all. The Obama generation and the leaners to the left today do not respect law or conditions such as being a native born American citizen if they do not fit with their agenda. Rules are infinitely bendable in their view as long as the outcome they want is achieved. As a Quebecker born and bred and moreover one of a rational persuasion I go along with my fellow Quebeckers mantra - les reglements sont les reglements - the rules are the rules. If you don't like them then change them through the constitutional means provided but do not circumvent them through name calling, hissy fits, foaming at the mouth etc. etc.

Don't mean to prolong the lunacy, just like to note that Hawaii allows people who were not born there, but were adopted, even if they were born in a foreign country, to obtain birth certificates there.

From Clayton Cramer [Link: www.claytoncramer.com...]

Astonishing Confirmation From Hawaiian Government Website

The December 3, 2008 Houston Chronicle carried an article about the Supreme Court's possible hearing of the suit demanding that Obama prove that he is a natural born citizen of the U.S. Amidst all the comments I actually found something of value: a link to a Hawaiian government website acknowledging that you can get a birth certificate from Hawaii even if you weren't born there!

Who is Eligible to Apply for an Amended Certificate of Birth?
As provided by law (HRS §&sect338-17.7, 338-20.5), the following persons may apply for an amended certificate of birth:

* A person born in the State of Hawaii who already has a birth certificate filed with the Department of Health and

1. has become legally adopted, or

2. has undergone a sex change operation, or

3. a legal determination of the nonexistence of a parent and child relationship for a person identified as a parent on the birth certificate on file has been made, or

4. previously recorded information in relation to the person’s surname and/or the father’s personal particulars has been altered pursuant to law.

* A person born in a foreign country who has been legally adopted in the State of Hawaii.

Look that over carefully. The first bullet point lists four situations where you can have your Hawaiian birth certificate reissued--and the second bullet point allows you to get a birth certificate issued even if you were not born there.

I've long wondered why Obama has been stonewalling on turning over the original long form birth certificate--you know, the one that was actually issued when he was born in Hawaii in 1961. The "Certification of Live Birth" that his campaign keeps showing is recently printed, and at least according to the Hawaiian Department of Health, is not necessarily proof of having been born in Hawaii. We know that Obama was adopted at one point by someone named Sotero. Was Obama adopted in Hawaii by Sotero?

Obama really needs to stop stonewalling and provide the original long form certificate. The longer he delays this, the more it looks like he has something to hide.

Most likely pitching a fit. The last threat was three months ago and so far nothing happened.

I think they have other fish to fry, what with trying to overturn Prop. 8 now.

(I didn't even vote for Prop. 8, but I am appalled at how they're trying to undo a valid democratic election.)

If you have any credible information concerning the Nirth Birthtiphicate, give the information to someone with the power to make use of it in a legal manner: a judge, congressman, senator, attorney general or such. Otherwise don't bother people.

Maybe he is hiding something, most likely not. In either case without proof nothing is proven.

not saying he was born in hawaii or he wasn't, just that it's strangeh he hasn't produced his birth certificate and that Hawaii issues birth certificates to foreign-born children.

Again, I'm not saying the man was born abroad, just taht it's not completely unreasonable to suspect he mgiht have been, given his refusal to produce his birth certificate, the fact taht Hawaii issues them to adopted foreign-born children and the fact that he's adopted.

You can believe he was legally born in Hawaii and you're on pretty good ground to do so, others can believe he wasn't and be on pretty good grond, too.

that said it's not an argument I want to get int he middle of, right now there's no proof one way or the other.

264 Millie Woods  Sun, Dec 7, 2008 2:00:52pm

FYI - it's very easy to falsify a birth certificate. I know because I did it for my son. His birthday is in November but the schools required pupils registering for kindergarten to be born by 30/09 so I altered his birth certificate changing November to September on the original and then had a photocopy of the original and voila he entered school a few weeks short of his fifth birthday instead of waiting around until he was almost six. I'm in the ed biz and knew all the arguments for the choice of a cut off date were spurious. They were to make life easy for the ed biz bureaucracy and to hell with the clientele. I'm sure I'm not the only law abiding citizen who's done similar things to circumvent lunatic bureaucracies impinging on our lives.

HOWEVER, A MAN IN RAPID CITY, SD DIDN'T FORWARD THE MO IMAGE WEBPAGE, AND IMMEDIATELY HIS DOG DIED, HIS TRUCK WAS TOTALED, AND HIS WIFE LEFT HIM.

I think it was Napoleon who said "never interrupt your enemy in the act of making a mistake."

BTW, I didn't vote for him, but all this Obama "birth certificate" crap is very tiring. Thanks for showing it the disdain it deserves. It reminds me of the "Bush didn't really win" posts we saw ad nauseum in early 2001 from the other tinfoil hat crowd.

i'll tell yo what's weird -- a friend of mine teaches at an exclusive school in the Middle East, and he says you're allowed to change your legal birth certificate age once. Just once, but you're allowed to do it to get your kid ahead or behing a year in school, like you say.

I said I didn't believe, it, but he said no, really, at his school they deal with it all the time. And he doesn't kid about things like that. Is taht weird or what?

 Frank says:

The essence of Christianity is told us in the Garden of Eden history. The fruit that was forbidden was on the tree of knowledge. The subtext is, All the suffering you have is because you wanted to find out what was going on. You could be in the Garden of Eden if you had just kept your mouth shut and hadn't asked any questions. -- Playboy Interview, April 1993
