Iraqi journalist throws shoes at Bush

An Iraqi journalist threw two shoes towards George W Bush, without hitting him, as the US president was shaking hands with the Iraqi prime minister in his office in Baghdad on Sunday, an AFP journalist said.

I certainly hope the Yankees don't don't try to sign this mutt. Obviously his control sucks!

Interesting that there are so many 'red dots' (Europeans) in North America that they are sometimes considered the default mode, while immigrants from contiguous landmasses are perceived as more 'foreign.'

Well not so sure about that. I mean when someone is sneaking into this country illegally, I am not sure who is stealing from who?

the problem is the stupid and deranged immigration system in the US. The best and the most skilled have to line up while the poor, criminals and gangs can jump the border and mess things up. US immigration system needs a huge reform for the better

18 Desert Dog  Sun, Dec 14, 2008 10:45:04am

That is our strength...our diversity. When the Irish got here in the mid 1800's, the "Know Nothings" complained that they spoke a foreign language and were Catholic...they would "NEVER" fit in...well, they did...and in doing so, they energized the country...the same thing has happened in each successive wave...Eastern & Southern Europeans in the beginning of the 20th Century...and now Latin America and Asia...it makes us STRONGER, more diverse. We have proven over and over and over again that if you unleash a people, give them the rule of law, freedom, capitalism and limit them only by their own self imposed limitations, they will flourish. The USA has many problems and we have not always lived up to our ideals, but there is no doubt in my mind, this place is the greatest country to ever exist because we literally are "E Pluribus Unum"

A man walks out to the street and catches a taxi just going by He gets into the taxi, and the cabbie says, "Perfect timing. You're just like Frank."

> Cabbie: "Frank Feldman. He's a guy who did everything right all the time. Like my coming along when you needed a cab, things happened like that to Frank Feldman
> every single time."
>
> Passenger: "There are always a few clouds over everybody."
>
> Cabbie: "Not Frank Feldman He was a terrific athlete. He could have won the Grand-Slam at tennis. He could golf with the pros. He sang like an opera baritone and danced like a Broadway star and you should have heard him play the piano. He was an amazing guy."
>
> Passenger: "Sounds like he was something really special."
>
> Cabbie: "There's more... He had a memory like a computer. He remembered everybody's birthday. He knew all about wine, which foods to order and which fork to eat them with. He could fix anything. Not like me. I change a fuse, and the whole street blacks out. But Frank Feldman, he could do everything right."
>
> Passenger: "Wow, some guy then."
>
> Cabbie: "He always knew the quickest way to go in traffic and avoid traffic jams. Not like me, I always seem to get stuck in them. But Frank, he never made a mistake, and he really knew how to treat a woman and make her feel good. He would never answer her back even if she was in the wrong; and his clothing was always immaculate, shoes highly polished too. He was the perfect man! He never made a mistake. No one could ever measure up to Frank Feldman."

The new White nationalist kookspiracy is "Solutrean truth". Basically the belief that whites were everywhere in the prehistoric world and ruled it until they were wiped out in some areas by Asians/Blacks etc. So when you see stories about "blond haired blued eyed" mummies in S. America and China your kook radar should go on.

re: #53 Thanos

Illegal immigration is a problem in almost every state...even more so along the border. With this economic downturn and higher unemployment, I would guess the rates if illegal immigration will subside a little. But, as long as there is no chance of making it in Mexico, other Latin American countries or Asian countries...they will still come here. We need to revamp our entire process. I am in favor of letting in as many as we can take...but what is happening only a few hours south of where i am sitting now has to stop.

The Illegal Industry is run by mobsters and drug cartels. Murders, rapes, kidnapping...that is what many of these people face...then, they "might" get a job...We need to control our border and end illegal immigration and put an end to this nonsense.

They are taking matters into their own hands here in Maricopa County. The Sheriff, with the County Attorney, are prosecuting illegal immigrants with State laws because they are getting no help from the Feds. If every county or state in the union did that...we would see a drastic drop in illegal immigration.

The gentleman who's been doing the examination of the Peruvian mummies is who you should consult if you disagree, he says they are just a lighter skinned variety of the surrounding Amerinds, and have the same common ancestors.

The point is that the Solutrean troofers are twisting archeological evidence to support the notion that all land really belongs to whites. The term comes from "Solutre" where archeologists have found some of the eldest flint tools. The troofers find similar chippings elsewhere in the world and say "See!" ignoring the fact that there are only so many ways to chip flint to make it into a useful tool.

re: #91 Thanos

I've long counseled that the solution to illegal immigration is going to be found locally, not federally. There aren't enough ICE agents to enforce, but local authorities can do so effectively, that's why you need to know your local Pol's stances on the issue.

For many years, cities, counties, even states turned a blind eye to illegal immigration...passing that buck to the feds. How many of the Sept. 11th terrorist were stopped by the police before they attacked. Local and state police do not bother with that...Add to that the outrageous "Sanctuary City" BS many big cities bragged about...you had the perfect formula for massive illegal immigration.

No federal enforcement, no local or state interference and even ENCOURAGEMENT on some levels. School districts love illegals, they get more federal money for each little rear-end in a seat.

It wasn't until it became a tremendous burden on the social systems that states, counties and cities realized it was costly to have so many illegal immigrants here. I have watch Phoenix transform in the 25 years I have been here. There are parts of this city, that if you didn't know you were in Phoenix, you'd think you are in Mexico. Phoenix has become the "Kidnapping Capital" of the USA. Almost all of it done by drug gangs and mobsters to illegal aliens. I have nothing against Mexican people, in fact, I love their culture, food, etc...But, I also see, every day, 100's of men lined up at various locations around the city, waiting for work. They are still here, in great numbers, even though there has been a concerted effort by the county to round up and prosecute them...The local and state efforts will only succeed if the federal government does their part.

It depends. Are you going to be using it for work, or personal use? How do you plan to use it? For sheer coolness factor, the iPhone wins hands down. But Blackberry is the standard for business. iPhone is starting to break into that market, but I don't think it's gotten as far as some might wish.

The apps for iPhone, while cool, are supposed to be rather limited because of the price limits Apple sets on any app. So some better apps haven't yet been made for that platform.

Granted, this is all me reading through what I've heard; I have just a throw-away cell phone.

I don't know about the Peruvian mummy, but the Chinese mummies look pretty legitimate. It's not exactly peer reviewed, but National Geographic produced a documentary about it last year. Considering they were found in 1978, and that increasingly advanced tests have been performed on them, I would bet on them being actual Caucasians. A cool phone is pretty useless if you can't call out because there's no network.

I don't know about ancient South American mummies, but the caucasoid Tocharians (and probably-related Tarim Mummies) of Asia were a real, documented people. Unfortunately for the White Supremacists, they were also Buddhists, so I don't know what of their theses the fact of their existence helps. Oh well.

Nothing was stolen - most immigrants came with the shirts on their backs. They certainly did not own their recipes. The Chinese food commonly served in North American Chinese restaurants is not authentic Chinese cuisine. It has been so thoroughly Americanized/Canadianized to suit local tastes that it bears little resemblance to the real thing. Have you ever eaten dog, cat or rat?

I dunno. The food I had in Taiwan was pretty similar to what we get here- some of the sauces were more subtle but that's about it. The Dim Sum was exactly the same. (I have heard some gross things about the food in Mainland China outside of the bigger cities, though.)

That said, the absolute nadir of Chinese cuisine has to be in the UK. Yuck, yuck, yuck- just like canned chow mein- I don't know how they manage it but it especially sucks there. Just hideous. My first thought was, "What's going to happen once Mr. Obama enhances our image in the world!" Just think of all the immigrants wanting in! Wasn't that exactly what this country needed? (Change!)

The editor-in-chief of The Washington Monthly summed up the naive leftist view of how to fix things:

America also faces an overwhelming foreign policy need: to reclaim our good name, and with it some measure of the power we've lost. As Kenneth Ballen writes in this issue ("Bin Laden's Soft Support"), the quickest and easiest way to enhance our image overseas, even among the world's most alienated Muslims, would be a massive campaign of humanitarian aid delivered not by faceless agencies but by Americans themselves, be they from the military, the Peace Corps, or some other entity yet to be created.

Are we really getting more Australians than Russians? Interesting.

If you look at the color key, the purple dots depicted as originating in Australia and New Zealand actually stand for "Oceania" -- which, depending on whom you ask, is often understood to include Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Indonesia, and other island nations of the South Pacific, along with Australia and NZ.

But even so, the relatively large number of purple dots is surprising.

173 Throbert McGee  Sun, Dec 14, 2008 6:13:18pm

And speaking of the map's color coding: note that the green dots stand for "North America" -- which in this case is defined as everything from Canada to Panama, including the Caribbean island nations.

So the green influx consists of a ginormous number of Spanish speakers, but also a smaller number of English speakers from Canada and anglophone Caribbean nations such as Jamaica, along with some speakers of Haitian Kreyol and other "minor" languages represented in the region.
