As Dickens said: It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to heaven, we were all going direct the other way - in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.

217 years ago today, Virginia ratified the Bill of Rights, officially making the Bill of Rights law.
Also, the electoral college meets today to vote on the President and Vice President. (U.S. Constitution Bill of Rights: December 15, 1791 - December 15, 2008?)

Chicago Trib forced the cutting short of the Chicago corruption investigation
The Real Story Behind the Rushed Blagojevich Bust: How the Feds Are Frustrated by Losing (Maybe) Half of Their Case
Cam Simpson reports on the Rod Blagojevich case in Chicago.
Conventional wisdom holds that U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald ordered the FBI to arrest Rod Blagojevich before sunrise Tuesday in order to stop a crime from being committed. That would have been the sale of the Senate seat vacated by President-elect Barack Obama.
But the opposite is true: Members of Fitzgerald’s team are livid the scheme didn’t advance, at least for a little longer, according to some people close to Fitzgerald’s office. Why? Because had the plot unfolded, they might have had an opportunity most feds can only dream of: A chance to catch the sale of a Senate seat on tape, including the sellers and the buyers.
The precise timing of Tuesday’s dramatic, pre-dawn arrest was not dictated by Fitzgerald, nor was it dictated by the pace of Blagojevich’s alleged “crime spree.” It was dictated by the Chicago Tribune, according to people close to the investigation and a careful reading of the FBI’s affidavit in the case.
At Fitzgerald’s request, the paper had been holding back a story since October detailing how a confidante of Blagojevich was cooperating with his office.
Gerould Kern, the Tribune’s editor, said in a statement last week that these requests are granted in what he called isolated instances. “In each case, we strive to make the right decision as reporters and as citizens,” he said.
But editors decided to publish the story on Friday, Dec. 5, ending the Tribune’s own cooperation deal with the prosecutor.
Consider what had been dangling in front of FBI agents and federal prosecutors one day earlier.
Since at least late October, agents had been listening through their headphones to Blagojevich allegedly dream and scheme about a host of potential prizes he could win for the Senate seat, including everything from an ambassadorship to a corporate board slot for his wife. But on Thursday, Dec. 4, he was talking about cash. And a politician talking about trading an official act for cash is a very welcome sound to the ears of an eavesdropping fed. In addition, the Dec. 4 conversation appears to have been the first substantive chat about allegedly selling the seat since Nov. 13.
But on Dec. 4, according to the feds, here’s what they heard: Blagojevich told an adviser he was giving “greater consideration” to one pick for the Senate seat, named “Senate Candidate 5″ by the feds, because of that politician’s willingness to raise money. That man has since been identified as U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., the Chicago Democrat affectionately known in his hometown as Triple J.
Jackson has denied any involvement in such schemes and says he never authorized anyone to deal in such a manner on his behalf. He also said Fitzgerald’s office informed him that he’s not a target in the investigation.
Perhaps even more encouraging to the feds listening in on Dec. 4 was what they knew about the first time such a deal was discussed. About a month earlier, Blagojevich was caught on tape describing an approach by an alleged associate of Jackson. Blagojevich’s now-infamous quote about that meeting had been tantalizing. “We were approached ‘pay to play.’ That, you know, he’d raise me 500 grand. An emissary came. Then the other guy would raise a million, if I made him (Senate Candidate 5) a Senator.”

I've been thinking to myself- now why would the media cover this scandal? Seems to me that if Chicago is such a hotbed of corruption, which it is, why wouldn't the local media rise to their (supposedly) noble professional ideals and investigate and bring the corruption down? The only thing I can think of to explain it is an equal level of journalistic corruption in Chicago. Or perhaps journalistic corruption is more widespread....

Is almond wood a hard wood? Or is it burnt for fragrance? Many years ago, when I was a boy scout, we found a downed locustwood (IIRC) tree. Got a 2 man crosscut saw, and cut it up some (took forever); then split sections for firewood. Talk about being prepared-that night the temps dropped into the 30's, and we were bunking in 3 sided adirondack huts. That hardwood kept us semi-comfortable, and needed little replenishing.

almond is a hard wood, and it should be burned to cook BBQ.....like oak, pecan, etc..... burn gas to stay warm.

Wasn't intending to-you opened it-but (IIRC) the UN has (GASP) given permission for hitting them on the ground in Somalia. I am really angry today. The stupid Australian Labor government is finally going ahead with it's ideologically based Carbon Emissions Trading Scheme. This is going to cost jobs and put up electricity prices. Even with the compensation in the plan for pensioners and low-income wage earners it is still going to be a net loss for Australians.
Even if (and that's a huge IF) global warming is true AND CHINA AND INDIA DO NOT FOLLOW it is a waste of time and effort.
If Australia were to disappear tomorrow the growth of China IN NINE MONTHS would be enough to fill the gap left.
And all this in a time of economic downturn. Really smart!

You forget - CO2 is only evil when it's produced by someone that you can tax!
Studies show that the threat of anthropogenic global warming caused by CO2 could be completely eliminated if everyone who believed in it would simply stop exhaling.

I've seen it time and again - people spend much of their teen years trying to sneak drinks, and think they really like drinking.
Then, they turn 21, no one has a problem with them drinking (as long as they don't drive), and the thrill of drinking wears off.

I threw up a bit after taking one shot. I realized that I can't do shots of alcohol, only mixed drinks that I enjoy. First thing at the bar, my buddy goes up and says "Hey, this guy's turning 21, make him something to get messed up good." Next thing I notice, the bartender is getting a huge bottle of tequila and pouring it into the cup. I LOATHE tequila. I ended up drinking half the drink then gave it away. Ended up getting a kamikaze shot and a kamikaze drink and the shot didn't go so well. After that, I finished my drink and had like two more kamikaze drinks. I was buzzing but nothing spectacular.

Oh - you're 21 now, so we can tell you the secret ways of ordering fries at In 'N Out Burger:
Fries "Light" - Decreased cooking time for a softer product.
Fries "Well" - Increased cooking time for a crispier product.
Fries "No Boat" - Fries are placed directly onto the serving tray instead of the paper "boat".
"Animal Style" - Cheese, spread, and grilled onions.
Cheese fries - called fries with cheese

The very THOUGHT of the Blessed Beauty being born to humankind gives me goosebumps, Miz Sharm...
Recently, they did a person-on-the street survey, just to see how many American Idol contestants people could name (winners or not).
About 95% of the time, at least 1 of only 3 different names were recall: Kelly Clarkson, Sanjaya and William Hung.

re: #96 Crux Australis
Sorry for the rant.

It's a phychological pathology if you ask me. During WWII we never would have elected a President named Adolf Hisler--but that's basically what we're doing now. A rose by any other name would smell as sweet, my ass. This is culture we're talking about. Our cuture is under seige. Before the PC movement people would have had the common sense to question how the cultural backgound of a candidate would effect his presidency. But that sensible approach as been done away with. Islam is at war with us, that much is clear, So instead of effectively figting back, we elect someone who probably has sympathies towards the people we are at war with because of his upbringing.

Andrew Lloyd Weber-so talented. I found 'Cats' a beautifully crafted work of art. 'Grizzabella' and 'Memory' were haunting-saw 'Cats' 3 times in London, and twice here in San Antonio-always a joy to view the performance.
But in the theme of the season, and somewhat classical, thought I'd offer up my own choice. Sang this so many times as soprano soloist when I was a kid-and I always teared up. But this version is from Hitman .

Some little known Chess facts- The London version differed from the Broadway version, and the production's lyrics to Bangkok are different from Murray Head's. Here's a crappy high school production of the original lyrics.
Also- I became quite well versed in Tim Rice's work before Disney released Aladin, and was completely able to pick out his lyrics from those of Alan Meneken(?). Not sure if I have the name right, I'm going off memory, but he was the lyricist Disney was using for a number of their films at the time, and he passed away while working on Aladin, so Tim Rice was brought in to complete the movie.

Update on the Blago fiasco:
1. Blago spent the weekend looking for a new attorney. Apparently he owes his current law form a whole lot of fees so they are pretty much not willing to represent him until the amount owed is paid up. Good luck with that. Blago spent the weekend taking to high profile Chicago attorney Ed Genson. Genson is reportedly trying to decide if he is going to represent Blago, which means he's trying to figure out if he will ever see a dime of fees.
2. The State legislature is having an emergency session today to try to figure out what to do. It is becoming very clear that AG Lisa Madigan's ploy to have Blago removed from office by the State Supreme Court for being unfit is going to go nowhere. Therefore, it will be up to the Legislature to impeach him. The Republican are hoping for a very drawn out affair as they want to see the Democrats slowly roast on the spit of scandal.
3. That leaves the question of what to do for a Senator? The Democrats do not want to have an open election cause then a Republican might win (Machine politics never quits in Illinois).
4. Blago is not going to resign today. Ever the shake down artist, he is trying to figure out how to sell his own seat for a walk.

In amongst all the doom and gloom, and the constant drone about vanishing species, is this!
1,000 species discovered over past decade in the Greater Mekong region...
SCIENTISTS have discovered more than 1000 species in Southeast Asia's Greater Mekong region in the past decade, including a spider as big as a dinner plate, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) said.
A rat thought to have become extinct 11 million years ago and a cyanide-laced, shocking pink millipede were among creatures found in what the group called a "biological treasure trove".
The species were all found in the rainforests and wetlands along the Mekong River, which flows through Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and the southern Chinese province of Yunnan.
"It doesn't get any better than this," Stuart Chapman, director of WWF's Greater Mekong Program, said.
"We thought discoveries of this scale were confined to the history books."
The WWF report, First Contact in the Greater Mekong, said that "between 1997 and 2007, at least 1068 have been officially described by science as being newly discovered species."
These included the world's largest huntsman spider, with a leg span of 30 centimetres, and the "startlingly" coloured "dragon millipede", which produces the deadly compound cyanide.
Next time you hear someone going on about how species are disappearing, mention this wonderful news.....

The Fed's are also looking at Patti Blagojevich's strange real estate deals:
Uncomfortable spotlight shone on Patti Blagojevich
Even before her voice was heard on covert recordings made by federal investigators, First Lady Patricia Blagojevich was neck-deep in the federal probe of her husband and his administration.
Once a residential real estate broker on the North Side, Patricia Blagojevich left that career this year amid scrutiny from the Tribune and federal agents who have for a year been examining whether clients hired her to win favor from her husband's administration.
But her decision to change careers didn't seem to slow the investigation, which sped up in recent weeks after federal agents tapped the Blagojevich's phones and caught the first lady joining her husband on calls in which he talked about how his authority to pick President-elect Barack Obama's replacement in the U.S. Senate could be leveraged to help find her a seat on paid corporate boards.
Before that, though, federal agents—following years of news coverage—were probing hundreds of thousands of dollars in commissions Patricia Blagojevich earned in previous years as a real estate broker for political supporters, fundraisers and state contractors.
This is called leverage. Mrs. Blgo is going to have a decision to make with the Fed's, testify or go to the joint.
It get's better:
A year ago, one real estate agent told the Tribune that FBI agents contacted her with questions about her involvement with Patricia Blagojevich in the 2004 sale of a $3.2 million Gold Coast home. The seller was an investment banker and contributor to the governor's campaign fund who hired the first lady as his second agent on the deal.
That was only the most recent example. Patricia Blagojevich had an eight-year working relationship with Antoin "Tony" Rezko, a onetime powerful developer and Blagojevich fundraiser who was found guilty this summer on influence-peddling charges.
A Tribune analysis this year found that Blagojevich's real estate company, River Realty, made more than $700,000 in commissions after her husband began raising money in 2000 for his first run for governor. Of those commissions, more than three-quarters came from clients with connections, the newspaper found.
This would be the same Tony Rezco who did a sweetheart land deal with The Messiah.

Rahm Emanuel talked with governor's office about who should fill Obama's Senate seat
Emanuel delivered a list of candidates who would be "acceptable" to Obama, the source said. On the list were Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett, Illinois Veterans Affairs director Tammy Duckworth, state Comptroller Dan Hynes and U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky of Chicago, the source said. All are Democrats.
Sometime after the election, Emanuel called Harris back to add the name of Democratic Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan to the approved list, the source said.

Very instructive: Obama doesn't publicly respond to JJ's insult about "cutting off his balls." No, he doesn't avenge himself with words, but with action. Often he repays favorable people with sweet words in public praise that cost him nothing, that actually make Obama look good. Case in point, of course, post-election "handling" of McCain.

A couple of questions for those more familiar with Illinois politics that I am:
1) Is Rahm Emanuel currently serving as an Illinois congressman?
2) If he is, and he resigns his seat to become BO's WH chief of staff does Blago get to appoint a replacement for him as well?
/Just wondering what else could possibly be on the tape that Emanuel might not have wanted the FBI to hear....

The WSJ is slamming the SEC over the Madoff ponzi scheme
SEC Had Chances for Years to Expose Madoff's Alleged Ponzi Scheme
An enforcement case 16 years ago gave the Securities and Exchange Commission its first shot at figuring out how Bernard Madoff could rack up favorable returns with such uncanny consistency. After that, it received repeated warnings from outside whistle-blowers and at least twice looked into Mr. Madoff's brokerage itself.
Each time, it blew its chance. It was only last week, when Mr. Madoff allegedly confessed to his sons that he was running what amounted to a "giant Ponzi scheme," that the apparent $50 billion fraud came to light.
"This is a debacle for the SEC," said Joel Seligman, an SEC historian and president of the University of Rochester in New York. "The commission has a lot to answer for."

Has anyone yet mentioned they've arrested someone in the Woodburn bombing? No more news than that, although they have a fairly blurry photo of a suspect who may or may not be the guy they arrested.
The arrest was the result of an intensive round-the-clock investigation by an interagency task force comprised of federal, state, county, and city public safety agencies," Marion County Sheriff Russ Isham said.
Yeah, I'll bet it was intensive. They killed cops, and Woodburn is not so big that the police wouldn't have all known each other.

Obama just asked if we can send a man to the moon why can't we figure out a way to make clean burning coal.
Biden's apparent answer: He supports clean coal for China, but not for the United States."No coal plants here in America," he said. "Build them, if they're going to build them, over there. Make them clean."
"We’re not supporting clean coal," he said of himself and Obama. They do, on paper, support clean coal.
The answer seems to play into John McCain's case that Obama has been saying "no" to new sources of energy.
In the primary, Biden opposed Obama's push for clean coal, which is seen as a way of maintaining or expanding America's coal-burning power plants -- many of which are in rust belt swing states.
"I don't think there's much of a role for clean coal in energy independence, but I do think there's a significant role for clean coal in the bigger picture of climate change," he told Grist last year. "Clean-coal technology is not the route to go in the United States, because we have other, cleaner alternatives," he said, but added that America should push for a "fundamental change in technology" to clean up China's plants.

Obama just asked if we can send a man to the moon why can't we figure out a way to make clean burning coal.
Good morning Lizards, I just yesterday saw some anti - coal PR ad on Northern CA. tv. It had no supposed alternative, just one message "there is no such thing as clean burning coal". Why are they running this in an non-election period, and who is paying for it?

A couple of questions for those more familiar with Illinois politics that I am:
1) Is Rahm Emanuel currently serving as an Illinois congressman?
2) If he is, and he resigns his seat to become BO's WH chief of staff does Blago get to appoint a replacement for him as well?/Just wondering what else could possibly be on the tape that Emanuel might not have wanted the FBI to hear....
1. Yes, and he's not resigned that either. I find that very, very interesting.
2. Don't know, but it could be.

Environmental experts agree that coal is the dirtiest fuel America uses to produce electricity. The “Reality” Coalition, then, is challenging the coal industry to come clean – in its advertising and in its operations. Coalcannot be considered clean until its carbon dioxide emissions are captured and stored. “The reality is that there’s not a single home or business in America today powered by clean coal,” said Brian
Hardwick of the Alliance for Climate Protection. “If coal really wants to be part of America’s energy future, the industry can start by making a real commitment to eliminating their pollution that is a leading cause of global warming.”
Hardwick continued: “It is high time for the coal industry to come clean and admit to the American people that today clean coal is not a reality. No matter how much they say it in their advertising, coal can’t truly be clean until the plants can capture global warming pollution. With so much at stake, we can’t afford to hang our hats on an illusion.”
Beginning today, the “Reality” Coalition will launch a multi-million dollar ad campaign, running in print, broadcast and online media and supported by the website, [Link: www.ThisIsReality.org....] The ads were designed and produced by Boulder, Colorado-based Crispin Porter + Bogusky, the agency responsible for the ground-breaking

Bear in mind though that the Bears wide receivers can not block on running plays to save their lives, which means that the Bears can not run wide.
That means they can only go off tackle and any good team in the playoffs should be able to shut that down.
Their receivers can not get separation either.

It looks like all the Blago's are in the "family" business...
Patti Blagojevich Accepts New Job
Illinois' First Lady, a licensed real estate agent, has been under federal scrutiny recently for real estate deals involving people with state contracts. Mrs. Blagojevich denied she's leaving real estate due to the scrutiny. She told the Tribune she'll keep her license because, "something comes your way, you have a friend or family member that wants to list a house." She added, "It’s not a matter of getting out of the real estate. It's just, this opportunity came to me. It just seemed like such a great organization and an organization that was looking for an infusion of some new ideas." I'm starting to lean that way. My guess is there's something on the tape that they are trying to figure out how to spin and make go away, otherwise The Messiah would have had another one of his endless press conferences to report on his staff contacts with Blago and give them a clean bill of health.
I think they are going to wait this out and see if something goes public that they have to clean up.
I agree with that analysis- the only strange thing about it all is the nagging question: if it's true, why hasn't Emanuel been thrown under the bus?
So is it not true?
Or does Emanuel have something on the messiah that he's using for insurance?

The amazing thing about the Lions to me, frankly, is that these guys are world class athletes. Seriously. How can they make such an awful team?
There is a difference between being an athlete and a football player.
The Lions have a lot of guys on defense who are afraid of contact. They arm tackle, they hand fight, they reach and grab-tackle. Receivers run over the middle there with confidence that they will not get hit hard. running backs take their time picking holes and breaking arm tackles.
Fastest way to turn that team around would be to draft a linebacker and a safety who can hit and turn out some lights.

“If coal really wants to be part of America’s energy future, the industry can start by making a real commitment to eliminating their pollution that is a leading cause of global warming.”Hardwick continued: “It is high time for the coal industry to come clean and admit to the American people that today clean coal is not a reality.
“Truth” anti-tobacco campaign.

Very hard, but at this point I think the Lions have quit. They won't admit it of course, but it looks tat way to me.
Very few linemen are finishing blocks. The receivers do not want to go over the middle. The defense is specializing in arm tackles and giving up on pursuit.
The secondary is going for "kill shots" on their tackles to get highlight time on ESPN, and are missing tackles.
If any team is capable of going O fer the season, its these guys.

Amazing how even the slightest "appearance of conflict" is enough to get the press all worked up into an indignant lather when it's a Repub. scandal, while it takes an actual indictment for them to consider a matter remotely serious when dealing with the Dems (sometimes not even then).
Rush L. had a great line the other day.
If it's a Republican scandal, the press becomes Prosecuting Attorneys; if it's a Democratic scandal, the press becomes Defense Attorneys.

Fastest way to turn that team around would be to draft a linebacker and a safety who can hit and turn out some lights.
a decent QB adds alot too...

Hey y'all - sorry, had to step away for a few minutes kinda unexpectedly!
Good morning to all of you again - as for the Giants well, when you have no downfield wide receiver threat, then the other team's defense can single cover your receivers and when you have no healthy big time running backs you're looking at 7 or 8 in the defensive box - makes it hard to run and poor Eli couldn't complete a whole lot of passes cause he was on his back.
Giants have given up 24 sacks this year - 12 to the Cowboys in two games and only 12 other sacks in all of the other 12 games they've played. Plus we lost two more offensive linemen last night (right tackle and left guard) so thank's to Plaxico's shooting himself in the leg, I don't think the Giant's will go far in the playoffs, - probably won't get past the Cowboys in the first game - but we know who the Giant's will be looking to draft or trade for in the off season!
Good thing for Dumbass Plaxico he wasn't anywhere near where I live last night!

Well you know the Army, it was make busy work...can't have all these folks sitting around asking questions about the call up. After three days of that, I went to my 1st Shirt and informed him, play me or trade me (work me in my MOS, or send me home)
In the infantry, you'd be looking at a guy with a face like a used catcher's glove who'd spit his tobacco juice next to your feet and tell you to get the f*ck out of his AO.

Well, that's your problem right there. No proper MOS's. Before long the whole Navy will be doing police calls in Texas with the Army doctors...
There is a reason they closed WRAMC and kept Bethesda open. Superior medical care and medical personnel.
The Armed forces medical school (USUHS) is located at Bethesda.
The Armed forces Radio Biological Research Institute is located at Bethesda.
Cuttnng edge medical research that is saving lives in Afghanistan and Iraq came out of Navy Medical Research Institue.
Navy medicine does undersea medicine, aerospace and aviation medicine and solid medical research. No other arm of Military medicine that is as comprehensive or operates in as diverse situations.
Navy Medicine leads the way.
Bethesda is today and since WWII has been the Mecca of military medicine.
Read Secretary Forrestalls address to the Nation about Navy Medicine and Navy Hospital Corpsmen after WWII.
The consistent excellence is the same reason why Bethesda has always been the President's hospital.

shit I meant Jacobson not Peterson...my bad...it's true the CBs have played well with their rookies etc but they have not been mentally as tough as the Gints til now...one glaring difference between Romo and Manning is that when you repeatedly hassle Manning he gets worse...he moves around but doesnt keep looking upfield...he just doesnt have that touch for moving around like Romo does...I digress amigo

Good morning.
Apparently, the worst Arab insult EVAH is shoes...not "Jew".
Indeed, but it's also important to note that this guy (I wont dignify with calling him a reporter) would have never had that ability or the cojones to even try such a stunt with Saddam in charge. It would have meant a death sentence to him, his family, and possibly to his entire town. He would have likely seen his family fed to plastic shredders, and then watched as he himself was fed into a plastic shredder to die an insanely horrible death.
No, he will likely face aggravated assault and not much else.
And that's as it should be.
I don't think many Americans realize the significance of that act or how that differs from what would have happened in the past. I think many Iraqis may realize this, but have to also understand that there's a real difference between free speech and violence. You can do one without the other, and this guy didn't care to bother with the distinctions.

I once had a (nominally) well-educated person tell me that he was pretty sure the speed of sound was "about a million miles per hour". So I guess the Concorde did the NYC -Paris run in about twenty seconds! No wonder they charged so much.

"Everybody"? I'm talking Hollywood here! The same industry that tried to convince viewers of the existence of gun whose bullets travel "almost at the speed of light" (Eraser, with Arnie S.).
Hollywood would have you believe you can use a silencer on a full auto weapon also. But it will burn most designs out in seconds at full auto, unless there are new designs out that can stand up to the heat and blast for hundreds of rounds.

There's a thing to create a mil contract bid about: automated sand bag filler. A front-loader would drop tons of sand in one end of a trailer and the machine would load bags.
Could come in handy at disaster sites, too.
That would be a God send. I hated doing that... and then some damned fool First Class or Staff Sergeant would come and tell us that we had to preiodically rotate the damned things.

I guess I'm okay, all things considered. I made it in to work today despite icy patches on the roads. I've got a humidifier running in my office so I can actually breathe and not gag on the dry air. I was able to bring my lunch today, and I have a bit of energy to get work done (although I'm not sure how long that will last).
So yeah, things are good. Now, if I could just get my daughter home safely in time for Christmas, I'll feel much, much better.

Yeah, but I bet that 1SGT you had could still climb the cliff at Point du Hoc!
Second week at Jungle training School, fresh out of
8th SFG's 6 week RECONDO training, and now a part of cadre at the JOTC, our 1st SGT says he's looking for someone to go running with him in the morning - being stupid as always but incredibly fit, I looked at this "old man" and said sure, Top, I'll run with you - so naturally he goes 3 miles out and 3 miles back, 90+ degrees and 90%+ humidity and I'm like still standing - leaning against a tree but still standing - and he's well "off to the showers and work!".
It's those old, tough S.O.B.'s ya gotta watch out for!
That guy (1SG, B/2/75 Rngr, 79+), you bet he could. Tough old SOB.
We were riddled with Nam SF guys back then, my Pl Sgt and Co Cdr were both from the teams, Not sure about the BC's background, but I'm sure he was high speed too. The BC later died in a night C-130 landing using NVGs, they named a barracks after him at Camp Rudder in Florida.

This car had an independent rear suspension. One was the Corvette, which could never be confused with the Buick Skylark. The other had the same body length, height, width, weight, wheel base, and wheel track as the '64 Skylark, and that was the 1963 Pontiac Tempest.

And the democrat talking point is:
On ABC's "This Week" this morning, Paul Krugman repeats the left talking point that Senator Bob Corker led the opposition to the auto bailout because he's the "Senator from Nissan." Nissan has two plants in Tennessee, Krugman noted. Left unsaid is that General Motors — the company leading the push for a bailout — has a plant in Tennessee too. [Also unsaid during the discussion was that, with ten Republicans on-side, Senate Democrats had the votes to push the GM bailout through.]
The democrats have to change the subject and twist the truth in order to manipulate the masses. It's disgusting. The truth is that Toyota is profitable because the company isn't handcuffed by crappy inefficient UNION LABOR.

Morning! Well I'll start getting concerned IF and when Russia, China and Iran can actually like, ya know, help Latin America. Right now Russia and Iran are going broke cause of the cost of oil and neither one is a first rate military power - hell, Russia's just barely hanging on to being a second rate (non-nuke) military power by it's fingernails, China - again non-nuke - would be a first rate military power but lacks the ability to project force ANYWHERE except by land and even there, long supply lines would doom it and btw, it's economy is in the tank, too.
One can never predict what 4 years of Obama will bring, but if he allows nuclear weapons/Missiles into Latin America from any other nations, he could be facing impeachment - even the Dem's aren't stupid enough to want to allow that to happen.

Don't forget the anti-vehicle aspects of Hollywood guns. When a car takes more than a few rounds, it explodes in a totally awesome fireball. That's better than .50 APIT can do.
It's the cars? I thought that it was the evil guns did that to cars.

Howard's End, Vanessa Redgrave. Now that sounds like an Oscar (I never even saw the movie but I believe it was a schmaltzy period piece.)

Hollywood uses an alternative set of physical laws from the rest of us. I believe that if the bullets knocked the bad buy backwards 8-10 feet, Mr. Newton would expect the shooter would move back the same amount if he was of similar mass.
last night on History Ch Alexanders light infantry hurled rocks from slings knocking Darius' dismounted calvalry 6 feet in the air and over backwards...it goes way back...

LOL! I'm a little more pricey-a nice tray of sushi and sashimi would do the trick...
LOL, ewww, cannot do raw fish anymore than beer. Although the hibachi shrimp has distinct possibilities.
