Nope, I'm going to be 56 in a week and a half and I have never had a ticket in my life.

I always drive in the right hand lane, never (I mean never) go over the speed limit, always have a smile on my face, wave to the cops every chance I get and the few times I have been pulled over, I cry.

I guess you never drove in Massachusetts, if you never went over the speed limit. I think there are drivers who will push your car if you don't.
As long as you stay in the right lane, I have no problems with going slow; it is people who block the left lane I have a problem with.

Here's a thought. Global warming is caused by CO2, so say the Gorebots. When we exhale we emit CO2. Since about half of us are libtard looney's wouldn't it help the cause if they just stopped breathing? If we extrapolate the 50% libtard bent to cover all mankind that's a hell of a lot of less CO2...

re: #42 solomonpanting

Given the current economy, look for all local and state agencies to raise taxes and fees as well as coming up with new schemes to collect money.

Its all bullshit

New taxes, cuts in budget plan

The plan will come with a host of revenue raisers — increased taxes on hospitals and insurance policies, for instance — and at least one new assessment, a so-called obesity tax on non-diet soda to raise $404 million. The governor also is contemplating requiring new license plates to raise cash, reviving sales tax on clothing purchases, removing the tax cap on gasoline and threatening to require Indian retailers to collect taxes on sales to non-Indians by signing into law a bill passed earlier this year by the Legislature.

The soda idea got support since it "was for the kids" but its based on faulty logic and feelygoodyness and its just a cash grab. Same with the requirement for new license plates. No need for it, they just need the money. Higher taxes on gas and a sales tax on clothes? That'll sure stimulate the economy. As for the Indian sales tax, it their land and they'll tie it up in courts, wasting even more tax payer dollars.

Fucking idiots.

NY passed a sales tax on all non-diet sodas, claiming they were doing it to fight childhood obesity, and that it would generate $400 million in revenue.

Now think about that. If a sales tax meant people would stop buying it in favor of diet sodas and thereby helping the kids, they wouldn't see a dimes worth of revenue. Meanwhile, people who aren't obese and dont even have kids would be forced to pay the same tax for an issue that has no bearing on them. They are betting on people saying "Well, its for the kids", bending over and buying the same stuff as always and them making a bundle off it.

Electors gathering in state capitols across the country have pushed Obama above the 270 electoral votes needed to win, according to a tally by The Associated Press. Obama takes office Jan. 20, becoming the nation's first black president.

You know, this is what pisses me off though. I do obey the road rules to the "t." And no, I am not some wussie, I can handle a vehicle better than most average drivers.

But I get treated like I am some criminal. I have people on 4 lane highways, while I am doing the speed limit in the very right hand lane, get behind me, blink lights, as if they want me to drive on the shoulder.

And I think if I was on the shoulder, someone would find some reason to bother me there.

Why am I so careful? Because over the years I have seen the abilities and the quality of the drivers behind the wheel decrease to a level that has become downright dangerous.

I know what the fuck I am doing on the road, and there is no way I am going to give any mindless idiot the chance to interrupt my health by slamming me on the road.

I think every driver should be allowed to have ONE personal missile issued to them every year with there tag renewals.

I think it should be LEGAL to actually KILL, take out, another vehicle if you think they are driving dangerously.

Yep, a few years of a little self-monitoring and that will up the level of smart drivers on the road. Heh.

You Are Not Stupid

You got 10/10 questions right!
While acing this quiz doesn't prove you're a genius, you're at least pretty darn smart.

The developer of the quiz is an idiot, though:

1. If a triangle has two short sides that are each three and four inches in length, how long is the longest side?
5 inches
6 inches
7 inches
12 inches

It could be either 5 inches, 6 inches, or just about anything short of 7 inches (at which point the 3 inch side and the 4 inch side would just form a line).

However, if the triangle in question were specified to be a right triangle, then it would definitely be 5 inches.

We had a vote on a half-penny sales tax increase.

I just knew with a faith in humanity that NO tax would ever pass if we're allowed to vote on it.

I was wrong.

Especially disheartening given the transparently manipulative ad campaign for it. They basically promised paradise: clean streets, no crime, and schools that graduated all our children as Einsteins, all for one measly little half penny. Which raised the blaring screaming question, why couldn't you do any of that with the other 12 half-pennies you already get per dollar?

The soda idea got support since it "was for the kids" but its based on faulty logic and feelygoodyness and its just a cash grab. Same with the requirement for new license plates. No need for it, they just need the money. Higher taxes on gas and a sales tax on clothes? That'll sure stimulate the economy. As for the Indian sales tax, it their land and they'll tie it up in courts, wasting even more tax payer dollars.

Fucking idiots.

It's for the chiiillldren yet the children are probably at the convenience stores buying 2 hour high octane energy drinks which are probably worse for them.

I will, but really, she did. She's over twenty years old, and she was born with malformed feet. Her toes are oddly shaped. Of course, she has learned to adapt and perch, but once in a while, if she gets startled, she will fall off the perch, because her feet can't compensate for her sudden movement.

Birds are pretty flexible, it doesn't hurt her.

re: #317 fclass308

How does this one go?

I went into a public-'ouse to get a pint o' beer,
The publican 'e up an' sez, "We serve no red-coats here."
The girls be'ind the bar they laughed an' giggled fit to die,
I outs into the street again an' to myself sez I:
O it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, go away";
But it's "Thank you, Mister Atkins", when the band begins to play,
The band begins to play, my boys, the band begins to play,
O it's "Thank you, Mister Atkins", when the band begins to play.

I went into a theatre as sober as could be,
They gave a drunk civilian room, but 'adn't none for me;
They sent me to the gallery or round the music-'alls,
But when it comes to fightin', Lord! they'll shove me in the stalls!
For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, wait outside";
But it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide,
The troopship's on the tide, my boys, the troopship's on the tide,
O it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide.

Yes, makin' mock o' uniforms that guard you while you sleep
Is cheaper than them uniforms, an' they're starvation cheap;
An' hustlin' drunken soldiers when they're goin' large a bit
Is five times better business than paradin' in full kit.
Then it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, 'ow's yer soul?"
But it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll,
The drums begin to roll, my boys, the drums begin to roll,
O it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll.

We aren't no thin red 'eroes, nor we aren't no blackguards too,
But single men in barricks, most remarkable like you;
An' if sometimes our conduck isn't all your fancy paints,
Why, single men in barricks don't grow into plaster saints;
While it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, fall be'ind",
But it's "Please to walk in front, sir", when there's trouble in the wind,
There's trouble in the wind, my boys, there's trouble in the wind,
O it's "Please to walk in front, sir", when there's trouble in the wind.

You talk o' better food for us, an' schools, an' fires, an' all:
We'll wait for extry rations if you treat us rational.
Don't mess about the cook-room slops, but prove it to our face
The Widow's Uniform is not the soldier-man's disgrace.
For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Chuck him out, the brute!"
But it's "Saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot;
An' it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' anything you please;
An' Tommy ain't a bloomin' fool -- you bet that Tommy sees!

--Rudyard Kipling, "Tommy"

Different country, but same bloody sentiments. argh!

Good evening, Lizards.

I need your prayers tonight, not so much for me but for some good friends of mine.

A member of their extended family, just 21 and a senior in college, took his own life Friday. I just found out this morning.

He was first a student of mine and later a colleague in a summer workshop I teach. I am absolutely devastated by this.

I am so sorry Goddess..

Ha! Took advantage of unseasonably warm weather to give my pond filters (the little ones I currently have, not the big one I'll be getting when my jury money arrives) a final pre-winter cleaning.

I can't believe it was over 70 in the sun today! Windy as all get-out, at 20+ mph, which meant I cleaned the filters in the kitchen sink instead of using the hose outside, but otherwise beautiful. Back to more normal temps tomorrow, though, and must probably rain.

And Mr. Empire put a new radiator in the car yesterday (we'll fix the old one and keep it as a backup), so we're in pretty good shape at the moment.

I put up the tree today (a 3-foot artificial, on the kitchen/dining table), and he set up the train he got at a yard sale earlier this year. It's really neat -- the first time I've had the tree-and-train combination! Hope y'all are ready for Christmas, and enjoying the decorations and music as much as this Pagan is. :)

Most personally satisfying moment of the day:

Getting a hug from Pamella, having Robert sign my copy of Onward Muslim soldiers, and Standing on the balcony of the center with Pamella and Robert during lunch, decrying the damage LGF and CJ has done to the antijihad movement.
I think the whole tone of the meeting would have had the LGF/CJ sycophants spitting nails.

Only one speaker (D Pipes), made any reference to radical Islam being the problem, his talk was the weakest and suffered some serious dissonance in my mind. The rest were firmly ensconced in the Islam is the problem camp and the solution is strong national identity and reaffirming cultural identity and history and using this to emphasize the inferiority of islamic culture.

You all are so dear.

When was 17 and a junior in high school, I felt that no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't please anyone. I was a "superstar" in high school, but I felt so empty and lonely--I realize now that it was truly depression, but anyway. I decided that life wasn't worth it because I was useless and unimportant. I planned to take a bunch a pills and not wake up.

However, I had a commitment to teach a French class at an elementary school once a week, so I went there first. I remember feeling so calm and detached--I really convinced myself that God wanted me to do what I was planning to do.

Then this little girl came up to my desk and handed me a card she made for me. She drew a big heart and wrote, "I love you, Miss Goddess."

Tears flooded my eyes, but I held myself together for the rest of the class. I sobbed all the way home. I realized that at least one person loved me, and as long as one person did, I couldn't kill myself.

I know we all have different beliefs, but I sincerely believe that that that little girl was sent by angels to break a kind of spell Satan managed to weave around my heart. I know first hand the irrationality of depression, and I grieve for those who weren't able to break those chains. There but for the grace of God go I.

Words are of little use in times such as this, So I can only hope my prayers will help.

re: #448 goddessoftheclassroom

Appreciate your understanding, W.o.G. it is a comfort. I detest this Silly, shallow, childish kind of thing. Little kids are childlike, their artwork is a delight. However, adults have no excuse, their irreverence makes them callous to precious things.

Many often mock G-d by calling him jealous, and selfish when He warned about "taking other gods", "making images", and "using His name in vain", but I think that was more an understanding of human nature than his own needs.

At every minor step, mocking, attack, slight, etc., against the traditions (of any major Religion) those that do not share the belief (and the small of mind) critisize and attack those that try to protect it as "overbaring", "extremist", "reactionary" etc. But the truth is that this is how the fall from grace occurs...one tiny step at a time.

Jesus Day (ie: Xmas) didn't get to where it is today (a silly commercialized American holiday where Jesus & his teachings are the last thing discussed) in one shot. It starts as one small tiny change, then over time you end up where you are today.

Religious Jews are victim to this too. They attempt to follow the word of G-d, and get criticized for it by Reformists, Conservationists, and non-orthodox Jews. This is why I know where Christians are coming from, and why the Nude Mary, and Barack in manger upsets me too.

Overall I think Christianity is incorrect, but if you are going to do it, you should do it right.

Agreed, but the arguments are the same for non-celeb parents as celeb parents. All want what is best for the kids. If private schools are best for the most public and wealthy of our citizens, then they are best for kids of all Americans.

I don't have kids, so this argument for me, is academic. But I do not like society divisions that determine who is more important than whom.

Oh, come on now JCM, let's not stop some of those moonbats up there from staying warm.

I don't agree with President Bush on some of his policies, but that doesn't mean I don't feel sad at how he's treated. I imagine at times he must feel it's him against the world. That's why I think this clip of the greeting he received from the troops in Baghdad is so great. I'm sure their support means a lot to him.

Obama: Probe shows no contact in Ill. gov scandal

CHICAGO – President-elect Barack Obama said Monday a review by his own lawyer shows he had no direct contact with Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich about the appointment of a Senate replacement, and transition aides did nothing inappropriate.

Obama pledged to make the review public, but said he decided to hold off because prosecutors asked for a delay and "I don't want to interfere with an ongoing investigation." U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald released a statement confirming the request.

Controversy has swirled around the president-elect and his incoming White House chief of staff, Rep. Rahm Emanuel, following Blagojevich's arrest last week on charges he schemed to trade Obama's Senate seat for personal gain.

Obama, fielding questions at a news conference, sidestepped when asked whether Emanuel had spoken with aides to the governor about potential Senate appointees.

Emanuel was one of several aides who watched the news conference from the wings.

The president-elect pledged the results of the investigation by his incoming White House counsel, Gregory Craig, would be released "in due course."

And shortly after Obama said this, a representative from Fitzgerald's office said on local radio that Obama needs to zip his lip and not release any reports to the public until the investigators get a chance to interview some of his staff.

As if we will be able to tell the difference between his administration and the current one, or the last one, or the one before that...

All this horror about Obama's one trillion dollar plan while Bush and his cronies have put us on the hook for seven times that amount in the past three months. Heck , Bush/Bernake/Paulson are going to bail out the UAW when even the Senate will not do it. Besides, cities, counties, states, and the federal government are all bankrupt already.

It's only a matter of time until the Ponzi Schemes on all levels of government run out of funds to keep them going. Add the 45 trillion for the unfunded Medicare/Social Security/Veterans benefits and it really doesn't matter anymore.

I don't know if Newsmax or Fox have a transcript of BO's ENERGY plans that he stated today-but I swear he said he intended to use the California environmental "Gold Standards" for the rest of the nation! This would mean EXPENSIVE gasoline, and fuel shortages; the refineries can hardly produce enough of that blend for California. And Greenies won't let refineries be upgraded, let alone built. This may be the end of civilization, as we know it...Beam me up, Scottie.

Ooops there goes another $600 billion...

Pelosi sees stimulus of about $600 billion

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Monday Democrats will likely debate a stimulus package of about $600 billion split between infrastructure and tax cuts next month.

"I think that we will find some level of consensus in that range," Pelosi said.
Speaking to reporters, Pelosi said she and other Democrats have been talking with President-elect Barack Obama and his advisers about a package "to see what their comfort level is."

Obama recently laid out a plan to create 2.5 million jobs, largely by investing in infrastructure.

Democrats are "hard at work" drafting a package that will come to the floor in January, Pelosi said.

These public works projects are notoriously slow to have an impact on the economy. You have to have engineering studies, plans drawn, bids written and published, EPA impact studies down, and then finally competitive bids let.

You are looking at 1 to 2 years of time lag in many cases.

By that time the economy will have self-adjusted back to equilibrium via Classical economic effects, and then you can overgrow yourself ito one heck of an inflationary spiral.

Which is exactly what I think will happen.

The market will bounce back a bit in the spring on the anticipation of a whole flood of new spending. Then when it does not immediately happen, the market will fall back a bit. Then late next year the flame will get ignited and inflation will heat up.

Look for the Fed's to drop the discount rate to 0.50% or 0.25% within the next few days.

Iron Fist, did you write this?

Doctors:
(A) The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000.
(B) Accidental deaths caused by physicians per year are 120,000.
(C) Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171.
Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept of Health Human Services.

Now think about this:

Guns:
(A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000. (Yes, that's 80 million)
(B) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500.
(C) The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is .000188.
Statistics courtesy of FBI

So, statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.
Remember, guns don't kill people, doctors do.

FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR.

Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand!

Out of concern for the public at large, I withheld the statistics on lawyers for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention!

There are plenty of cultural traditions out there...but guess what? I don't have to like them all. Did you know that? Nowhere is it mandated that I have to like ANYTHING. I know this must come as a shock to you Master Thespian (I swear I'll vomit if I hear one more time about your "shows"). Halal slaughter is also a culture and tradition, but I can not find anywhere where it states I have to enjoy the slaughter of live animals. Clear enough for you?

Would you rather hear more about Maisey the Parrot. I can customize my comment for you, just to make you feel better.

Gee, I'm sorry if you don't like my posts, or that you are unable to respond to my query.

You original post on this subject said "It's blasphemous, sacriligious and disgusting"

Sorry, it's none of those things. It may be blasphemous, sacriligious and disgusting TO YOU, but you made a blanket statement.

And as a all inclusive statement, like you made, you are WRONG. Period, because it's not those things to other cultures, evident in the fact that these have some cache, and I even linked you to some other different nativity traditions that are certainly unusual, as gauged against our traditions here, but are quite accepted in other places.

Stuff lasts longer these days with just hubby and me at home.

re: #680 fclass308

Perhaps you could enlighten us on the distinction...

Kaffir minds want to know.

Here is an anti-Islam position, as described in the comments of the blog of one who attended the "Facing Jihad" conference:

-- "STATE ISLAM MUST GO" not all Muslims but those supporting the imposition of Islamic law. --

This is insufficient. ALL Muslims must go. Not because all of them actively desire the destruction of free societies, but because Muslim populations are the protective, supportive infrastructure in which the jihadist hides and from which he draws his sustenance.

Remember: By virtue of their allegiance to Islam -- the only allegiance a Muslim is permitted -- Muslims are required to support and defend fellow Muslims against any non-Muslim, and against charges made by any non-Muslim. Even those who don't feel the jihad urge will respond to that call. It's dangerous for a Muslim not to do so, both spiritually and practically.

Then there's the little matter of taqiyya and kitman. Need I say more?

Free peoples cannot be safe from Muslims and Islamic terrorism as long as they are permitted to commingle with us. They must be quarantined away from healthy societies and kept confined, with only one another for company, until they've outgrown their madness.

Posted by: Francis W. Porretto | Sunday, December 14, 2008 at 05:08 AM

***

Francis, you should know that the subject you mention was NOT explicitely covered at the conference. Geert Wilders came closest to calling for an outright ban on Islam and he received tremendous applause from the crowd.

The only speaker to specifically state apologetically that he believes the problem is "Islamo-fascism" versus Islam itself was Daniel Pipes. But anyone who reads Pipe's writing should have known this already.

All the other speakers did not appear to agree with Pipes, although Professor Lewis mistakenly sounded somewhat like Pipes. However, I spoke to Lewis for about 20 minutes after the conference and he clarified his staunch view against Islam. I think he will clarify his opinion in future speeches.

This is the end of a comment at Jihadwatch:

So if you want to get rid of islam, get rid of democracy first.

And here is an excerpt from a responding comment by one of the contributors to Jihadwatch:

This giddy globe, with here and there a few notable exceptions, is largely ill-led. We'll see what happens. But why make a fetish, why put all of one's hope, in "democracy" as it is understood today?

re: #702 UberInfidel67

Sorry but that is not the same as placing other people in the Nativity scene. The creche stands for something. No comparison.

Are you saying it's not the same. Did you even read my link on caganers? Caganers is a tradition since the 17th century. It places all kinds of people in the nativity scene, squating and SHITTING in the manger. The article you read, about the figurines in Italy, is a similar tradition. You don't know what you are talking about.

And I'll say it again, YOU DON"T LIKE IT, understood, but don't try to discuss something that you seem to know nothing about.

Caganers, little figures of personalities in Italy, and all sorts of OTHER figurines that are use ALL OVER THE WORLD, is traditional, and there is nothing wrong with it. And it is the same.

Read the fucking links...

Actually, if you read the "fucking link" it says that the caganers are tucked away in a corner and nowhere near the manger.

Actually, if you read the "fucking link" it says that the caganers are tucked away in a corner and nowhere near the manger.

This is getting silly. There are ALL kinds of traditions, all over the world, in CHRISTIAN countries, where there are many different characters included in a manger scene, characters besides the initial ones we are so use to seeing here in the US.

We are splitting hairs arguing where the hell they are standing. In that case, I'll take it one step further, there was NO manger event in Bethlehem in the first place. It was a cave, or a barrow in a hillside or even possibly outside. And all those figures we are use to seeing were not standing there all at THE SAME TIME. Scripture indicates that all sorts of visitors came to see the baby, at different times and for different reasons. And it may have not been anytime near the winter season, and so on and so on.

Use a little critical thinking here.

ANOTHER UNGRATEFUL ARAB

I guess by now you may have heard about the Iraqi journalist who threw his shoes at President Bush today. Here’s my take on it: As an American citizen I am outraged at this pathetic conduct. This idiot is an embarrassment to himself, HIS President, and his country. To me as an American he’s just another ungrateful, cowardly Arab.

I say he’s UNGRATEFUL for obvious reasons. His country was a total hell on Earth, ruled by a murderous dictator and run into the ground. The horrors are documented. No economy, no future, no freedom, no hope - except perpetual warfare and suffering. His evil sons would have probably succeeded him some day and the hell would have continued. Continued...

OK, now I want to see some of these other "Christian" countries that put anyone other than the Holy Family in the Natvity scene. Really. The meaning of the creche IS the Holy Family. And don't try to change the direction of the discussion. It is MY tradition the the Holy Family be placed in the barn with a manger. I know it was probably a cave (for sheltering animal)...but this is MY tradition. That's OK isn't it? Didn't you just give me hell for dissing someone elses tradition? Yeah, thought so.

You know, you are SO black and white, you are unable to even understand what you are reading. I'm not dissing your tradition of a manger, the common figures you are use to, not even the time of year.

I am saying that other people see this differently, and have been seeing it differently for hundreds of years.

I am saying that TRADITION proves that the creche and the way it is displayed, is different the world over, with local figures included in the mix.

Here... are you incapable of doing a little research yourself?

Do they at least mention right triangles when asking about the lengths of triangle sides?

Wow, and I thought I was wrong for thinking there was something wrong with putting the Holy Family (which is included in all the links you provided Walter) in the same display with little shitting statuettes. Imagine my suprise.

Your condescending attitude sucks BTW. I find it offensive to show "characters" shitting in the manger. Plain enough for you? I am sure that others would agree with me. I really don't understand your attitude. I find something offensive and you try to tell me that I am wrong? WTH is wrong with you?

Bye

And next...

[Link: www.geocities.com...]

This might be a late posting, but my internet connection keeps disappearing.

Walter, I must be missing something.
I looked at the articles you linked to.
I don't see anything anywhere about various political figures of the day being incorporated into the creche.

In fact, one of the wiki articles says about the "canager", while it is nearby, it is not incorporated into the nativity scene. and public "cribs" often use a caricature of a disliked public figure as the canager:

In Catalonia and the Basque Country[citation needed], hiding in the background of the nativity scene is the caganer (Catalan "crapper"), a figure of a defecating man. There is no attempt at incorporating the figure into the narrative of the nativity; he is apparently a reflection of Catalan irreverence and scatological humour. Large public cribs often have a caricature of a disliked public figure as the caganer.

So I can't see where it says that anybody incorporates into the creche any figures that would not normally be there. License is taken with the scenery, but not the figures.

So I can't find where anybody uses figures in a creche other than ones normally there, unless they use a disliked public figure as the "canager", which is not incorporated into the scene.
