Some of the same crooks and liars that stole the WA '04 Gov. election are in MN helping Franken steal a Senate seat.

Al Franken: Washington's third senator?

With America's closest Senate race in 2000, and gubernatorial candidates separated by 133 votes in 2004, Washington has served as a legal laboratory for close-quarters post-election political combat.

[snip]

Former Washington Democratic Chairman Paul Berendt, who fought for a hand recount of ballots in the Gregoire-Rossi battle, has also put his expertise to work in the Minnesota race.

Interesting, discuss among yourselves.

From Newt:
"I was saddened to learn that at a time of national trial, when a president-elect is preparing to take office in the midst of the worst financial crisis in over seventy years, that the Republican National Committee is engaged in the sort of negative, attack politics that the voters rejected in the 2006 and 2008 election cycles.
From Newt:
The recent web advertisement, “Questions Remain,” is a destructive distraction. Clearly, we should insist that all taped communications regarding the Senate seat should be made public. However, that should be a matter of public policy, not an excuse for political attack.

In a time when America is facing real challenges, Republicans should be working to help the incoming President succeed in meeting them, regardless of his Party.

From now until the inaugural, Republicans should be offering to help the President-elect prepare to take office.

Furthermore, once President Obama takes office, Republicans should be eager to work with him when he is right, and, when he is wrong, offer a better solution, instead of just opposing him.

This is the only way the Republican Party will become known as the “better solutions” party, not just an opposition party. And this is the only way Republicans will ever regain the trust of the voters to return to the majority.

This ad is a terrible signal to be sending about both the goals of the Republican Party in the midst of the nation’s troubled economic times and about whether we have actually learned anything from the defeats of 2006 and 2008.

The RNC should pull the ad down immediately."

I also really like Hock Blades, They take a really nice edge, not too hard to sharpen and they aren't outrageously expensive.

the prices didnt seem unreasonable if you dont replace blades often...or ever...ever since I was a kid I loved to sharpen knives...my dad would get nervous because my pocket knives were 'too sharp'...and to this day little has changes...I assume you have a complete set of stones and lubricants to work all your knives and blades?...in my work sometimes I hit the old grinder and just start over

They used to sell wood burning sets too. An open searing hot metal tip on a handle to sear burn marks into wood. What's not to love?

I'm amazed we ever made it to adulthood. On the otherhand it was good training for the Army.

When camels go bad...

camels can be very vicious. they will bite and kick the hell out of each other and people. i read a story abt. a woman going cross country in the desert on a camel w/ pack camels hauling her supplies. she had to shoot dead several wild rogue males that came up and tried to steal the female camels. apparently there are wild camels in africa and the m.e. that are a real danger to travelers.

Well, for starters, Obama has promised millions of new government jobs in some form of FDR's CCC, WPA and other alphabet groups. He's made his intentions known that he he'd like to pump hundreds of billions of dollars into greatly expanding government's role in the economy. Some of his critics are not only opposed to an acceleration of government intervention in the marketplace, but also ask when was the last time massive government spending boosted the economy?

Sorry, I did post a link after the first request but should have done it at first. Yes, this kind of stuff does appeal to me, I dream of a dialog opening up between the parties, and I admit it. The same thing many did not like about McCain appealed to us in the center. BTW, call me out if you feel I'm peeing in the pool, but I am not trolling.

I meant I liked Mccain because he was the loyal opposition, willing to work across the aisle. I'm a 66 year retired Navy Chief myself. My beliefs are basically that I want to see both parties work together instead of the way it's not been working since WW II. I liked Newt's comments because they seemed rational and more middle of the road then the mud slinging I see everywhere.

158 Pietr  Tue, Dec 16, 2008 8:13:24pm

re: #157 avanti

Your reply was unclear, You spent 66 years in the military-or are 66? How long in-when to when, #years served. Retired Navy Chief-make me believe! So far, I thought I was talking to a teen ager-as a retired E-7, I expect another Sr NCO to at least be clear and speak at my level. Especially Navy...My Grunt Cohorts could be somewhat crude and incoherent at times-but never a Navy Peer.

Secondly-we are discussing politics on an animal thread-WHY? Boards are set up for threads to follow specific topics, yet you posted politics here. Again, Why? You claim to be my senior in 2 things, but appear to be E-1 level-especially posting politics in an "Oh, such a Cutie"thread-I mean way 'off topic'. Response is better when preceded by an "OT", or posted where it is supposed to be-but you specificlly posted here. So explain to me-"as the board, at large"-why you did. Sounds simple, but the board isn't...You're up. Fire away...

159 Mostly sane, most of the time.  Tue, Dec 16, 2008 8:18:29pm

I came back here because I understood nothing on the tech thread.

160 rightymouse  Tue, Dec 16, 2008 8:46:00pm

If anyone is looking for action, the Wilders/VB thread seems to still be alive.

161 avanti  Tue, Dec 16, 2008 8:50:22pm

First, sorry I went off topic on the animal thread, but I was not the first and I still leaning the ropes. As to the rest, I'm 66 and retired after 19 years at the age of 38. I served on AKA 148 during the Cuban missile crisis, two tour later off Vietnam on CA 148, a cruiser, then two tours at Gitmo, one in Annapolis, a few years at Electronic Technician A and B school and stops in between.
I'm sorry I can't communicate at your level but my Navy GCT was in the top 2% at 73, so you can't be way smarter then I. You need to know that not everyone that disagrees with you politically is automatically one sandwich short of a picnic. The way I'm being dinged down I won't be here long, but would hope my short time here won't be only in defense of my intelligence or patriotism.

162 Pietr  Tue, Dec 16, 2008 9:06:46pm

re: #161 avanti

Intel or Patriotism doesn't make one an LGF favorite-actual belief and stance does-and you still can be down dinged-But were you medically retired? I don't down ding (tho did once-that 1 needed it), and did actually support you. As far as being smart-there is so much I haven't learned yet, but I'm still trying.

163 avanti  Tue, Dec 16, 2008 9:21:10pm

Nope retired normally after 20, a bit early because of early reups. When I was stationed in Annapolis on shore duty, I decided to retire here rather then go to sea again. I've been sponsoring midshipman here most every year.
Here's my latest "kid" that I sponsored at his Ring Dance. He's now married to the gal and in flight school. I loaned him one of my Studebakers.

My latest mid..
