Capo'd at B flat? Is that what I'm seeing? Looks like an open tuning, as well.

I'm finally starting to regain the desire to play guitar. This one looks like an easy tune to learn.

5 Noam Sayin'  Sat, Dec 20, 2008 4:18:42pm

Looks?

Sounds, like an open tuning, but I was going more by her chording. It was initially the sound of the strings that made me think that.

6 ArmyWife  Sat, Dec 20, 2008 4:19:43pm

Seems a bit slow tonight, huh? Global warming must haven frozen typing fingers?

re: #20 Noam Sayin'

But I do have to share this - yesterday, a woman paid for my husband's lunch at a local restaurant (he was in uniform with a friend). He of course, said "oh, I appreciate this, but you don't need too" etc etc and she insisted, so he let her and thanked her kindly. As she was leaving, she came by his table and dropped off her phone number saying "You can show me how much you appreciate your lunch later". He was partly dumbfounded, and partly in hysterics. Setting aside his being married (and happily so, dammit!), as someone here stated size is a personal choice. At a good 300 pounds, she wasn't his cup of tea! He couldn't wait to come home and show me he'd gotten a phone number given to him, and then he had to tell me the whole story.

We went to see this local band/vocal group called FACE - last night. They were awesome. They do covers and use their voices for the drums, bass etc... It was most excellent. sold out and the crowd went nuts.

In 1982 when Texas had a foot of snow cover for over a week with temperatures in the teens, when in mid-Texas Yanks were playing hockey on our lakes and people were skiing and sledding on our hills—that might qualify for "Snowmageddon". Krugman, posterboy for BDS and Nobel economist, gets this right:

The revelation that Bernard Madoff - brilliant investor (or so almost
everyone thought), philanthropist, pillar of the community - was a phony has
shocked the world, and understandably so. The scale of his alleged $50
billion Ponzi scheme is hard to comprehend.

Yet surely I'm not the only person to ask the obvious question: How
different, really, is Mr. Madoff's tale from the story of the investment
industry as a whole?
...
Now, as we survey the wreckage and try to understand how things can have
gone so wrong, so fast, the answer is actually quite simple: What we're
looking at now are the consequences of a world gone Madoff.

Skiing in Texas? That would be something to see. That must have quite a storm.

The weathermen were calling it the worst winter storm ever known for Texas, and undoubtedly a storm that won't be repeated in anyone's grandchildren's lifetime who saw it. With no salt trucks or snowplows, the state closed for a week. I think people playing hockey and driving three-wheelers on our lakes was odder than the skiing. Luckily I lived about a quarter mile from some old fault line that left a 500 foot hill. My dad made a sled from some old lumber. Waxed HotWheels™ tracks make pretty good runners. The kids in my neighborhood wore that hill out.

re: #187 Iron Fist

The big problem with Social Security is that people are living too fucking long these days. When they dreamed up the idea of Social Security, the retirement age was pegged at, IIRC, 62. The average man lived to be something like 58. The average woman lived to be 62. So Social Security was ment to ease the last days of a dying widow (OK, it was really more of a way to raise revenue while acting like the Government was giving people money for nothing).

Now the average age is something like 75. And now the Baby Boomers are getting ready to retire. The whole ponzi scheme is going to come apart at the seams...

If they'd done individual accounts, if they'd left it alone, if they done even conservative investments. It would have worked.

But that pot of money was too tempting for those whores in DC.

Anti-Jewish commentary is flooding the Internet in the wake of Bernard Madoff's arrest on charges of masterminding one of the biggest Wall Street frauds in history, campaigners said Friday.

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) said there had been "an outpouring of anti-Semitic comments on mainstream and extremist Web sites."

Madoff, 70, is Jewish and a prominent member of the powerful US Jewish community. He is alleged to have defrauded investors, including a number of Jewish-related charities, of some 50 billion dollars.

"Site users have posted comments ranging from deeply offensive stereotypical statements about Jews and money -- with some suggesting that only Jews could perpetrate a fraud on such a scale -- to conspiracy theories about Jews stealing money to benefit Israel," the ADL said in a statement.

"Jews are always a convenient scapegoat in times of crisis, but the Madoff scandal and the fact that so many of the defrauded investors are Jewish has created a perfect storm for the anti-Semites," said Abraham Foxman, ADL national director.

"Nowadays, the first place Jew-haters will go is to the Internet, where they can give voice to their hateful ideas without fear of repercussions."

If they'd done individual accounts, if they'd left it alone, if they done even conservative investments. It would have worked.

But that pot of money was too tempting for those whores in DC.

I dunno, what can you do, when you're the government, and have billions of dollars a year to put into a lockbox? Buy your own treasury bonds? Does that even make sense? Is it any different from what they did do?

So where might the anti-Democrat comments be for the shizzle they pulled with this housing crisis, I ask you?

Galveston, TX IIRC did it. They opted out for cit employees. A well diversified portofolio, pensions don't touch the principal. Pensions last I read about were more than salary there was so much money.

You can do it on a small scale, but when "the buck stops here", it's unclear what you can do with it, but build actual revenue-producing, real-world facilities with it. But that's not quite what we allow our governent to do. I see it as a real technical problem.

Can't argue with that.

It comes down to us re-electing the same crowd over and over.

Here in my little corner of Husker Nation the temp is hovering around zero and the wind chill is about -21. I can't think of anything to do but go to bed.

Well, that was weird. Two percussion guys? I hear harmonies nobody appears to be playing. And who's playing the fretless bass? It can't be that guy at stage left because he's scrubbing the strings like Stevie Ray Vaughn (or that Kenny Wayne Shepherd dufus).

The pancake makeup and brown lipstick just makes it more weird!

Late to the thread, and as usual, likely a thread killer.

At first I liked the Patty Griffin song, but in reading the lyrics and listening again I am less impressed.

The song reads like a typical anti-war (read: anti-victory, anti-BusHitler) rant.

Love and kindness until there are no strangers and the bird of peace will land.

Hallelujah!

Whatever.

Still it sounds good.

But it's mostly moonbat cant.

Just sayin'.

Charles,

You turned be on to her a while back and I am very grateful. Similar artists that you may appreciate (if you don't already) are Dar Williams and Jeffrey Foucault.

Incredible songwriters and singers.

Sounds like a Joni Mitchell wanna be, even uses the same chord & strumming patterns...

I don't mean this question to be arch or prurient, like the way people make jokes about Karen Carpenter, but out of concern, she looks very thin. Does anyone know if she struggles with an eating disorder, or has she always been so petite? I've always loved her music and hope that she enjoys the same happiness that she gives her fans.
