Steam, no talking, LOTS AND LOTS of liquids, but you knew that.
If you absolutely must speak, DON'T whisper, it's actually harder on the voicebox than is the croaky-talk.

NYT says Paris mayor letter a fake
Mon Dec 22, 2008 4:18pm EST Email %P% Print %P% Share %P% Reprints %P% Single Page %P%
NEW YORK (Reuters) - The New York Times has identified as fake a letter it published on Monday that denounced Caroline Kennedy's bid to become a U.S. senator and was attributed to the mayor of Paris...
...The letter signed by Paris Mayor Bertrand Delanoe said Kennedy's bid to fill Clinton's senate seat was "surprising and not very democratic, to say the least."...
..."This letter was a fake," the Times said in an editor's note on its Web site later on Monday. It said the letter had been e-mailed to the paper and that staff sent an e-mail back to the mayor to verify it, but did not hear back...
...The fake letter was the latest embarrassment for a paper that saw its reputation hammered in 2003 when national reporter Jayson Blair resigned after fabricating quotes, falsifying datelines and using material from other newspapers.

It wouldn't be so damn bad if we'd had gone ahead and built the third airport in spite of Dictator Daley. O'Hare's too small for the amount of traffic they want to cram into it. I also fault the airlines as they balked at a third airport (and even pulled out of Midway for the most part) when they could've used said airport to cut back on the number of flights going into and out of O'Hare.

Saw this story on a link from Drudge, [Link: biz.yahoo.com...] I though that we might see this same kind of report in the US come next year.
It might read like this
AP
Obama says mall to be expropriated in Atlanta
Sunday December 20, 2009 8:00 pm ET
By Ian James, Associated Press Writer
Obama orders halt to construction of Atlanta mall, says building to be expropriated
Atlanta, GA (AP) -- President Barrack Obama ordered construction halted on a major shopping mall in Atlanta on Sunday, saying the government will expropriate the unfinished building.
The US President, and Dear Leader, said it would be out of line with his government's socialist vision to allow the new Atlanta mall to take up precious urban real estate -- and that unbridled consumerism isn't his idea of progress either.
Obama said the mall, scheduled to open near the Buckhead district in downtown Atlanta next year, would severely clog an area that already is so crowded "not a soul fits."
The hulking concrete and brick structure takes up an entire city block and according to the a company Web site was to include 273 shops.
"We're going to expropriate that and turn it into a hospital -- I don't know -- a school, a university," Obama said to applause during his Sunday television and radio program, "Hello, Dear President."
The company building the mall, did not immediately respond to requests for comment. It operates malls in cities across the United States, including another vast shopping center in Dallas.
"How are we going to create socialism turning over vital public spaces to a mall?" said Obama, who has nationalized Americas's largest phone company, electric utilities, auto makers, banks, little league teams, all TV/Radio Stations, Newspapers and oil fields.
The president also has urged Americans to shed their materialism and their taste for designer clothes, sport utility vehicles, Scotch whisky and plastic surgery.
Obama often urges Americans to rethink their values, and the timing of his announcement appeared to be no accident -- just as Christmas shoppers packed malls elsewhere in the United States.
He didn't preach against the buying frenzy in general, but did say at another point in his speech that "Christ was a socialist as well as a community organizer."
Consumerism has flourished in America in recent years, with the economy awash with bailout cash and windfall political payoff earnings rolling in. Malls are often packed, and new shopping centers have been sprouting up quickly.
The president did not say how much the government might pay the mall's owners in compensation, but probably would offer either a bullet or nothing.

It's United Airlines. They look for reasons not to fly because they don't have enough flight crews.
I do remember that before 9-11 I hardly ever saw a completely full flight. it was nice cause you could spread out a little once the plane took off. Since 9-11 I don't think I've been on a plane that wasn't max capacity. Understand that has a lot to do with efficiency...empty seats are unpaid seats and all that, but a side effect is that when things do get messed up, there's no cushion to handle the overflow/backlog from cancelled flights...

That is what is known as a Compliance ruse. Here is my personal favorite example:
A music star (whom I shall refrain from naming) buried in his contract rider that he have in his dressing room, a brand new World Wide Wrestling Action Figure, in the box, on his counter.
So, if he walked in to the dressing room and did NOT see such an item, he knows that they did not even bother to read the rider, and were, therefore, in violation of the contract.
I personally think that is a brilliant strategy.

Actually, smokinggun.com had an interesting theory about why that infamous request was made. They believe it might have been inserted deep into the document to make sure that the promoters had complied with the entire contract, to the letter. Brown m&ms in the candy bowl impiled that the promoters had just skimmed the document, and were probably deficient in some far more critical areas.

Here's my speculation on the Coleman-Franken thing. If I were Coleman, and I knew the fix was in for Franken to win, that the board was determined to find those votes regardless, I would start letting silly ones go by. Just ridiculous, like the two votes marked and they counted it for Franken. This would give me future ammunition, and weaken Franken for future elections.
Just my speculation, and of course I don't know that the CB was crooked, I'm just saying.

That's why I love the new automated postal machine in the post office here. You go up to it, it asks you only want you want, and it delivers service quickly. No grief, no frowns, just all mechanical and electronic professionalism. I never use the windows anymore, just the machine. I get better service from the machine most of the time.

Yes it is, I'm a production supervisor. I never ever drink at work. Way to many machines that could cause very serious bodily damage to anyone not paying very careful attention to what they are doing. And we just voted to get more of it...sheesh.
I used to use the DMV and Post Office as examples of the way gov't does stuff and then ask people if they wanted more of it...rhetorically of course.
i ask my friends if they want health care run like the DMV or the post office.
i can tell they have a sober moment but somehow go back to hollering for free health care. i have a friend who actually thinks the gov't will send him a monthly check so he can get his blue cross blue shield full coverage back.

Obama team primed to push climate change agenda
President-elect Barack Obama's new "green dream team" is committed to battling climate change and ready to push for big policy reforms, in stark contrast with the Bush administration, environmental advocates said on Monday.
"If this team can't advance strong national policy on global warming, then no one can," said Kevin Knobloch, president of the Union of Concerned Scientists, referring to Obama's picks for the top energy and environment jobs in his administration, which takes office on Jan. 20.
"This caliber of scientists in any administration would be a major headline," Knobloch said by telephone on Monday. "But in contrast to the eight years of the Bush administration, where political appointees ran roughshod over science at a terrible cost to the truth, they stand out even more."
Children's Book Depicts Santa Fighting Global Warming
"You see, it's like this Santa," the book reads. "I've adopted a polar bear named Leopold. He is in danger of losing his home. I'm sure you being in the North Pole you know about the melting glaciers. All I want this year Santa, is to save Leopold and his home."
Santa Claus visits the boy, takes him to see the polar bear and then in a moment of eco-awakening, he makes his operations at the North Pole green.
"They arrived back at the North Pole and Santa had a grand idea," the book reads. "He leaned in toward Swift [the head elf] and told him his new plan. ‘We will collect all of the old toys, Swift, and make them new again. We will reuse last year's wrapping paper. And we will harness the great North Pole wind to help power up the toy shop.'"
Start the propaganda early and often in every possible medium.
/beware the forthcoming generation of fanatical Obama children

I have a staggering prediction. As bad an idea as the auto industry bailout is, its funds will be grossly mismanaged and there will be demcrat politicians who will financially gain. Now that seems like a no brainer, of course they are going to loot the coffers, its only a good prediction if you can tell us how: Well, you are going to see the unions kick back a ton of money because the bailout is going to go to the union wages and not take a single step towards a re-organization. So you are going to see politicians kids on those unemployment roles pop up out of no where. Just my guess. But I'm optimistic, I think they will only steal half the money.

Being originally from the frozen North (Northern Illinois) I know how dry it can get up there. Down here the humidity is not that great a factor. As to the bowsaw, I have one. I also have a bum shoulder from over thirty years working in the building trades. It behaves itself if I behave myself.

How many people start off a new job by trying to WEAKEN their authority BEFORE they even take over? No kidding, that’s Joe Biden for you. Biden is possibly the LAMEST politician in Washington right behind Harry Reid. If you want to get an idea about this guys intellectual “gravitas,” Vice President Cheney sums it up for us here:
The current vice president , appearing on “Fox News Sunday,” taught a lesson in constitutional law before brushing off Mr. Biden’s criticism as “campaign rhetoric”:
[Mr. Biden] also said that the — all the powers and responsibilities of the executive branch are laid out in Article 1 of the Constitution. Well, they’re not. Article 1 of the Constitution is the one on the legislative branch. Joe’s been chairman of the Judiciary Committee, a member of the Judiciary Committee in the Senate, for 36 years, teaches constitutional law back in Delaware, and can’t keep straight which article of the Constitution provides for the legislature and which provides for the executive. So I think — I write that off as campaign rhetoric. I don’t take it seriously. And if he wants to diminish the office of vice president, that’s obviously his call.
