Chem trails! chem trails!

Can't be, the Chemtrail Dispersal Units (CDU), in particular CDU-186 for So-Cal area of operation stood down for Christmas Eve and Christmas.

Normal operations will resume, Monday the 29th. Don't worrying the last week the dosage were extra concentrated to cover the stand down.

22 Geepers  Wed, Dec 24, 2008 4:33:24pm

I remember my first Christmas adventure with Grandma.

I was just a kid. I remember tearing across town on my bike to visit her on the day my big sister dropped the bomb: "There is no Santa Claus," she jeered. "Even dummies know that!"

My Grandma was not the gushy kind, never had been. I fled to her that day because I knew she would be straight with me.

I knew Grandma always told the truth, and I knew that the truth always went down a whole lot easier when swallowed with one of her "world-famous" cinnamon buns. I knew they were world-famous, because Grandma said so. It had to be true.

Grandma was home, and the buns were still warm.

Between bites, I told her everything. She was ready for me.

"No Santa Claus?" She snorted..."Ridiculous! Don't believe it. That rumor has been going around for years, and it makes me mad, plain mad! Now, put on your coat, and let's go."

"Go? Go where, Grandma?" I asked. I hadn't even finished my second world-famous cinnamon bun.

"Where" turned out to be Kerby's General Store, the one store in town that had a little bit of just about everything.

As we walked through its doors, Grandma handed me ten dollars. That was a bundle in those days.

"Take this money," she said, "and buy something for someone who needs it. I'll wait for you in the car."

Then she turned and walked out of Kerby's.

23 Geepers  Wed, Dec 24, 2008 4:33:35pm

I was only eight years old. I'd often gone shopping with my mother, but never had I shopped for anything all by myself.

The store seemed big and crowded, full of people scrambling to finish their Christmas shopping.

For a few moments I just stood there, confused, clutching that ten-dollar bill, wondering what to buy, and who on earth to buy it for.

I thought of everybody I knew: my family, my friends, my neighbors, the kids at school, and the people who went to my church.

I was just about thought out, when I suddenly thought of Bobby Decker. He was a kid with bad breath and messy hair, and he sat right behind me in Mrs. Pollock's grade-two class.

Bobby Decker didn't have a coat. I knew that because he never went out to recess during the winter. His mother always wrote a note, telling the teacher that he had a cough, but all we kids knew that Bobby Decker didn't have a cough; he just didn't have a good coat.

I fingered the ten-dollar bill with growing excitement.

I would buy Bobby Decker a coat!

I settled on a red corduroy, one that had a hood attached to it. It looked real warm, and he would like that.

"Is this a Christmas present for someone?" the lady behind the counter asked kindly, as I laid my ten dollars down.

"Yes, ma'am," I replied shyly. "It's for Bobby."

The nice lady smiled at me, as I told her about how Bobby really needed a good winter coat.

I didn't get any change, but she put the coat in a bag, smiled again, and wished me a Merry Christmas.

That evening, Grandma helped me wrap the coat (a little tag fell out of the coat, and Grandma tucked it in her Bible) in Christmas paper and ribbons and wrote, "To Bobby, From Santa Claus" on it. Grandma said that Santa always insisted on secrecy.

Then she drove me over to Bobby Decker's house, explaining as we went that I was now and forever officially, one of Santa's helpers.

Grandma parked down the street from Bobby's house, and she and I crept noiselessly and hid in the bushes by his front walk.

Then Grandma gave me a nudge. "All right, Santa Claus," she whispered, "get going."

I took a deep breath, dashed for his front door, threw the present down on his step, pounded his door and flew back to the safety of the bushes and Grandma.

Together we waited breathlessly in the darkness for the front door to open. Finally it did, and there stood Bobby.

Fifty years haven't dimmed the thrill of those moments spent shivering, beside my Grandma, in Bobby Decker's bushes.

That night, I realized that those awful rumors about Santa Claus were just what Grandma said they were: ridiculous. Santa was alive and well, and we were on his team.

I still have the Bible, with the tag tucked inside: $19.95.

LOL,

Wiki --

The Chemtrail conspiracy theory holds that some contrails are the result of chemicals or biological agents being deliberately sprayed at high altitude for a purpose undisclosed to the general public.[1] Versions of the conspiracy theory circulating on the internet and on some radio talk shows theorize that this activity is directed by government officials, and federal agencies have received thousands of complaints from people who have demanded an explanation.[1] The existence of chemtrails has been repeatedly denied by federal agencies and scientists.[2]

Bill Whittle neatly smacks it out of the part in SEEING THE UNSEEN, Part 2, about half way down.

Bells on Christmas Day

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was filled with sorrow at the tragic death of his wife in a fire in 1861. The Civil War broke out the same year, and it seemed this was an additional punishment. Two years later, Longfellow was again saddened to learn that his own son had been seriously wounded in the Army of the Potomac.

Sitting down to his desk, one Christmas Day, he heard the church bells ringing. It was in this setting that Longfellow wrote these lines:

I heard the bells on Christmas Day
Their old familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet
The words repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to men!

And thought how, as the day had come
The belfries of all Christendom
Had rolled along
The unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good will to men!

Till, ringing, singing on its way,
The world revolved from night to day,
A voice, a chime,
A chant sublime
Of peace on earth, good will to men!

Then from each black, accursed mouth
The cannon thundered in the South,
And with the sound
The carols drowned
Of peace on earth, good will to men!

It was as if an earthquake rent
The hearth-stones of a continent,
And made forlorn
The households born
Of peace on earth, good will to men!

And in despair I bowed my head;
"There is no peace on earth," I said;
"For hate is strong
And mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good will to men."

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep.
"God is not dead, nor doth he sleep!
The wrong shall fail,
The right prevail,
With peace on earth, good will to men!"

I love that little story, Geepers. Glad you shared it again.

That is a great story.

I'm blocked from accessing Youtube here at work, but there is a cool song by Winnipeg bluesman, Big Dave Maclean, called "Santa Come Down" that sort of speaks to this subject. (Santa comes down with the blues, because of kids who disbelieve in him.)

82 Sharmuta  Wed, Dec 24, 2008 5:03:24pm
And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

I love you, Lizards! Merry Christmas, with Love, from Sharmuta

Then He smiled at me, pa rum pum pum pum
Me and my drum.

When I was small I believed in santa claus
Though I knew it was my dad
And I would hang up my stocking at christmas
Open my presents and Id be glad

But the last time I played father christmas
I stood outside a department store
A gang of kids came over and mugged me
And knocked my reindeer to the floor

They said:
Father christmas, give us some money
Dont mess around with those silly toys.
Well beat you up if you dont hand it over
We want your bread so dont make us annoyed
Give all the toys to the little rich boys

Dont give my brother a steve austin outfit
Dont give my sister a cuddly toy
We dont want a jigsaw or monopoly money
We only want the real mccoy

Father christmas, give us some money
Well beat you up if you make us annoyed
Father christmas, give us some money
Dont mess around with those silly toys

But give my daddy a job cause he needs one
Hes got lots of mouths to feed
But if youve got one, Ill have a machine gun
So I can scare all the kids down the street

Father christmas, give us some money
We got no time for your silly toys
Well beat you up if you dont hand it over
Give all the toys to the little rich boys

Have yourself a merry merry christmas
Have yourself a good time
But remember the kids who got nothin
While youre drinkin down your wine

Father christmas, give us some money
We got no time for your silly toys
Well beat you up if you dont hand it over
We want your bread, so dont make us annoyed
Give all the toys to the little rich boys

Oh, I thought I was going to be alone in my sentiments.

It's not the "calendar induced happiness" alone that's a bit of a turn-off (though it would be nice if the radio stations could mix up their playlists a bit), but the idea that, great, it's Christmas, peace on earth and all that, but when does it actually show up in modern times? The spirit of Christmas won't stop attacks in Iraq, it won't stop Hamas and its missile strikes, it won't stop the Iranian, Syrian, North Korean pursuit of nuclear weaponry and a way to deliver it to the U.S. The last time the idea of "peace on earth" influenced events on a global scale was the Christmas Truces of World War I, and there wasn't one in 1917, and there was an out and out battle going on in the Ardennes for Christmas 1944.

121 JimmyTheClaw  Wed, Dec 24, 2008 5:16:53pm

TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS,
HE LIVED ALL ALONE,
IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF
PLASTER AND STONE.

I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY
WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,
AND TO SEE JUST WHO
IN THIS HOME DID LIVE.

I LOOKED ALL ABOUT,
A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,
NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS,
NOT EVEN A TREE.

NO STOCKING BY MANTLE,
JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,
ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES
OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.

WITH MEDALS AND BADGES,
AWARDS OF ALL KINDS,
A SOBER THOUGHT
CAME THROUGH MY MIND.

FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT,
IT WAS DARK AND DREARY,
I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER,
ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.

THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING,
SILENT, ALONE,
CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR
IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME.

THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE,
THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER,
NOT HOW I PICTURED
A UNITED STATES SOLDIER.

WAS THIS THE HERO
OF WHOM I'D JUST READ?
CURLED UP ON A PONCHO,
THE FLOOR FOR A BED?

I REALIZED THE FAMILIES
THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT,
OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS
WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT.

SOON ROUND THE WORLD,
THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,
AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE
A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.

THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM
EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,
BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS,
LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.

I COULDN'T HELP WONDER
HOW MANY LAY ALONE,
ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE
IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME.

THE VERY THOUGHT
BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE,
I DROPPED TO MY KNEES
AND STARTED TO CRY.

THE SOLDIER AWAKENED
AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE,
'SANTA DON'T CRY,
THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE;

I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM,
I DON'T ASK FOR MORE,
MY LIFE IS MY GOD,
MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS.'

THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER
AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP,
I COULDN'T CONTROL IT,
I CONTINUED TO WEEP.

I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS,
SO SILENT AND STILL
AND WE BOTH SHIVERED
FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL.

I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE
ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT,
THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR
SO WILLING TO FIGHT.

THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER,
WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,
WHISPERED, 'CARRY ON SANTA,
IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE.'

ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH,
AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT.
'MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND,
AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT.'

This poem was written by a Marine.

Here's the recipe, as far as I can decipher the scrawl:

6 eggs, separated-beat yokes with 1 c. sugar per 6 eggs, cream until fluffy

Add slowly 2 shots dark rum (I'm using Pusser's) and 1 shot bourbon (Old Grand Dad, heh), per egg (!)

Add 1 pint Half&Half

Beat whites until very stiff

Add .5 c. powdered sugar and beat stiff againd

Add whites to yolk mixture, and beat lightly to mix.

Hide your car keys before serving.

re: #89 Ben Hur

It's my favorite one.

I have been blessed this year. So far, this Christmas season, I have heard that cursed carol only once, and that an instrumental version, which is tolerable. Quite a nice melody, actually.

To my ear, there is something hideously juvenile about the way the lyrics imitate the drum sounds.

And think about the whole premise of the carol. Here you have a couple who have just undergone a long and difficult journey, with her 9 months pregnant, and they arrive at their destination, and can't even get a room at the inn. So they wind up bunking in the stable, of all places, where the lady gives birth. And the writer of the carol wants me to believe, that after all these trying circumstances, that couple is going to be receptive to some snot-nosed kid whackin' on a drum. Let me tell you, if I were Joseph in that instance, the kid would need to have latex gloves to properly play the drum once it got installed in its new location.

Now maybe a little solo cello, or tenor sax, that I could believe.

Maybe we need a support group for folks with drumcarolphobia.

re: #127 Alberta Oil Peon

I can agree with you about the "pa rum pum pum bleh" bit, but the first time I heard it was an Animaniacs special, with Wakko being the kid and following the three kings with their fancy gifts. I think the idea is that the baby Jesus and Mary and Joseph know the kid's intention is as sincere as that of the kings, so they let him play. I dunno, all I know is I like the cartoon version of a lot of these carols (Charlie Brown Christmas, Animaniacs, etc.).

129 Charles  Wed, Dec 24, 2008 5:28:00pm

130 Silhouette  Wed, Dec 24, 2008 5:28:35pm

My big problem with The Little Drummer Boy: the verse "I am a poor boy too."

Too? Jesus wasn't poor. They weren't in a stable because they couldn't afford a hotel room, it is that the inns were full. Because of the census for taxes.

His problem wasn't poverty, it was taxes!

Oh, I'm not blind to the sentiments expressed in the carol, but I honestly do cringe when I hear the lyrics. Kind of like mainlining saccharin or something.
I really like Charlie Brown's Christmas, and the music is exquisite. I never heard of Animaniacs.

146 CanadianBacon  Thu, Dec 25, 2008 8:10:44am

Charles Martel @145

Actually, I believe that the image is of a "sun dog" rather than a rainbow. Instead of liquid water in the lower atmosphere refracting sunlight to make l'arc-en-ciel, ice crystals in the upper atmosphere do the job.

Because of the greater distance (higher altitude, from the observer's POV) to the refracting media, the arc is often complete around the sun rather than the partial arc we more often see in a rainbow.

Sun dogs often presage the approach of a warm front, indicating a gradually increasing cloudiness and precipitation.

Nice sundog.
