Those who took him up on it had greed in their hearts.

There are good and bad in every profession. - there are good vehicles for financial security companies and bad ones.

There are good products within and not so good.

Most financial advisor's are in it for what they make off of what they can talk you into. They are very good at it.

Some - the few - are not. And their clients don't loose money

Israel always has to go to the nth degree to show that it doesn't want war.
Hamas shows every day that it wants war, and yet there are so many people (okay, mostly nutjobs, but some of them nutjobs with a lot of international prestige) saying the West/Israel should talk to them, recognize them, stop boycotting them.

Hmmm.
Hubby JimPro and I were just talking about that (the spread of corruption) today. We both thought it wasn't so prevalent "back in the day," but two issues quickly came to mind...
1. News didn't spread nearly as fast back then ... indeed they had time to squelch before reaching the public.
2. Corruption was just as prevalent but not as much among leadership positions... just in the low/intermediate ranks... ?

Nahhhhhhh. FDR, etc.

So Hamas is pounding Israel with Katyushas again and of course I'm not seeing much reportage of this in the MSM. Israel gearing up for military response (finally). I am all pins and needles.

Israel has been gearing up for it for a while, according to Strategypage. They have at least one UAV over Gaza at all times, and have been able to pinpoint launch sites and rocket factories. It's really about time that they take Hamas at their word and acknowledge the state of war that exists between Israel and Hamas.

One of the catches will be that running Gaza as a prison camp will be expensive, and moonbats the world over will have a cow as soon as Israel moves. This, of course, is on top of the cow that they're already having because Israel exists in the first place.....

re: #35 Steffan

Israel would have UAVs over Gaza regardless of whether they were gearing up for major operation. They are always collecting intelligence, never know when it will come in handy.

Israel is almost certainly NOT going to reoccupy Gaza. No one is interested in that. They will strike, they will destroy weapons factories and kill designated targets, and then withdraw, more or less as they have been doing in the West Bank for several years. The only area they might reoccupy would be the Philadelphi corridor, to prevent smuggling, but that raises international issues. I doubt they are prepared (politically) to do that yet.

Top 10 Poorest Cities

What do the top ten cities with the highest poverty rate all have in common?

(1st on the poverty rate list) Detroit, MI hasn’t elected a Republican mayor since 1961;
(2nd) Buffalo, NY hasn’t elected a Republican mayor since 1954;
(3rd) Cincinnati, OH hasn’t elected a Republican mayor since 1984;
(4th) Cleveland, OH hasn’t elected a Republican mayor since 1989;
(5th) Miami, FL has never had a Republican mayor;
(6th) St. Louis, MO hasn’t elected a Republican mayor since 1949;
(7th) El Paso, TX has never had a Republican mayor;
(8th) Milwaukee, WI hasn’t elected a Republican mayor since 1908;
(9th) Philadelphia, PA hasn’t elected a Republican mayor since 1952;
(10th) Newark, NJ hasn’t elected a Republican mayor since 1907.
(11) No Republican held ANY office in Pittsburgh for 65 years until two were elected in 1995.

Einstein once said, ‘The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.’

It is the disadvantaged (define that however you will) who habitually elect Democrats — yet they are still disadvantaged after all these years! Imagine that.

Anyone else have as cool a Christmas as I did? The wife and I went to the shooting range in Cherokee National Forest. Wife took her Glock 27 that she hasn't fired for a couple years and from 25 yards put every round on paper (the paper being about the size of a man's torso). We also took my Sig 556 and Remington 700 and got my optics zeroed in. I haven't had that much fun on Christmas since Santa brought my little brother and me a go cart.

Probably coincidence.

Chinese navy special force carry out an anti pirate drill on the deck of DDG-171 Haikou destroyer in Sanya, capital of South China's Hainan Province Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008. On Friday, warships armed with special forces, missiles and helicopters will sail for anti-piracy duty off Somalia, the first time the communist nation has sent ships on a mission that could involve fighting so far beyond its territorial waters.

I put up a spin-off link a few days ago about this.... the Chinese navy will be cruising the African coast regularly for the first time in many centuries.

Peace through superior firepower, it's the only way that freedom can be defended. That may not make it "right" in the eyes of the CodePink crowd or the New York Times, but it does make having a strong military an absolute necessity.

If we don't support our Military, then sooner or later a latter-day Genghis Khan will conquer us. I think the CodePink and assorted fellow traveling freaks want that to happen. They see it as payback for our prosperity.

Pakistan cancels troops' leave over India tension (Reuters)

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - Pakistan's army has canceled troops' leave and ordered them to report to duty because of tension with old rival India over last month's militant attacks in Mumbai, a military official and soldiers said on Friday.

The Taleban have ordered the closure of all girls’ schools in the war-ravaged Swat district and warned parents and teachers of dire consequences if the ban is flouted.

In an announcement made in mosques and broadcast on radio, the militant group set a deadline of January 15 for its order to be obeyed or it would blow up school buildings and attack schoolgirls. It also told women not to set foot outside their homes without being fully covered.

“Female education is against Islamic teachings and spreads vulgarity in society,” Shah Dauran, leader of a group that has established control over a large part of Swat district in the North West Frontier Province, declared this week.

No, it's not good, even though it was somewhat expected. For more than a month the Pakistanis have been warning they'd do precisely the very thing that the intel officers now say is occurring.

Pakistan thinks that the Indian government is a bigger threat to them than the Islamists who continue to threaten NATO supply lines in Pakistan and who have routinely taken potshots at the Pakistani government.

The Mumbai attacks threaten the NATO operations in Afghanistan, and that was part of the reason for the terrorists carrying them out - it was to increase tensions between India and Pakistan to divert attention away from the Islamists, and to increase the possibility that the Islamists will hold sway inside Pakistan. The Islamists know the Pakistani government has to engage in a cycle of appeasement and crackdown, and the Islamists play this game very well, taking full advantage of both.

Prayers for the folks in Woodmere, NY. 78 year old man loses control of his car and plows into a building. Hurting a bunch of folks celebrating Chanukah.

Prayers for the folks in Covina, CA. Crazy Santa thing. Gosh.

Agreed - it was a kids' Chanukah party, which is especially sad because the little ones were hurt. Thank God no one died.

The Santa thing is just...not even a word for it. The guy knocked on the door and when an 8 yr old answered, he shot her in the face. She's alive, but I can't imagine what she has ahead of her. Of course, that's not half of what he did.

Prayers have been going up ever since I read about it all.

Yes Reine, that's me. Thank you for asking. He's doing better as far as the pulmonary function, but now his kidneys are in trouble. I haven't seen the nephrologist since the day before Christmas, so I'm anxious to speak with him today. Bless these feds:
Now, feds probe Gov. Richardson of Obama Cabinet for 'pay-to-play'

This is business as usual for decades that I know of. It was the reason I never registered as a Dem, even when I was closer in time to my SoCal university indoctrination. It is a nauseating way of doing business. Luckily, NM has developed a huge science and technology enterprise that people can fabulously work in that isn't subject to this slime. This one has been in NM papers for a while. It is actually smaller than a Federal Courthouse construction project that netted way $$more for the Dems, and in outright theft rather than campaign pay to play contributions. But of course the feds can only do so much and are subject to pressures... they hit plea deals, publicize investigations, just like in Chicago - before they really get to the heart of it (or uncover the whole set up). So it goes on.

Yes goddess - you may add him to the Lizard Prayer List. (I just tried to post this, but it got hung up and went into cyberspace).

Anyway, we are very rural, so there are no acute care facilities here. Phoenix is our best alternative - they will be able to wean him off the ventilator, teach him how to care for his tracheotomy, and rehab his body. He's been in bed since the 16th, and has to get his strength back. They will also get him back on solid food - they've only been feeding him the last couple of days through a tube in his stomach.

The bright side of all this - he'll surely be done with his cigarette habit by the time he comes home!

I'm on my way to the hospital to get a report, then I have to go to work.

Thank you all for your prayers.

I prefer the Marine Corps solution - come in fast and hard and blow their mangy butts into the hereafter.

Yeah a " Where'd they go? They were right here a moment ago" solution would work just dandy

Well some of us have been speculating (and I emphasize the word "speculating" as in we have NO proof) that at least one if not more ME countries who's first Letter is an "I" and last is an "n" or two words "S being the first letter of the first word and "a" being the last letter of the second word!) is benefiting enormously from all this piracy. IF that's true, it could account for the difficulty in bringing these pirates down.
Just saying................

re: #251 Gang of One

I hope the "document dump" over the Holidays, combined with the natural reluctance of the MSM to cover the Blago story ("Oooh, there's a Kennedy in the news, let's do that story instead!") doesn't kill coverage of the issue. Blago's request for subpoenas got a tiny "In Brief" mention in the local paper.
I'm still holding onto a slim hope that Blago will spill his guts and take out Rahm.

279 Sunlight  Fri, Dec 26, 2008 6:55:25am

re: #249 realwest

Good morning Sunlight! Geez, Blago, Rahm Emmanuel and now Richardson - Obama may have one of the most corrupt presidencies ever and he hasn't even been sworn in yet!

"Pay to Play" is the accepted way of doing business by the Dems. They may not be willing to say it now, but if you had asked them a year ago, they would have looked at you like you were an idiot and said "Of course, pay to play is how it works." It's only these prosecutions (even though they don't expose the whole thing) that are getting the pay to play to go underground. It has gone on so long that I actually think ordinary party operatives have grown to not know that it is unethical and illegal.

297 eaglewingz08  Fri, Dec 26, 2008 7:10:48am

Just read in NYPost 12/26/08, something that may qualify as both virtue and vice. It seems that our CIA has been handing out Viagra to old and overstressed tribal chieftans, to get their groove on. In one case a sixty something chief with four young wives was given the blue pill in the hopes it might make him more willing to cooperate with the forces of freedom.
Well several days later the CIA operative (no not Valerie Plame) returned to a hero's welcome. The Chief spilled the beans on numerous Talibanis and their actions and he asked for some more father's little helpers, which the CIA gladly supplied.

Caroline is a princess, after all.

Interesting tidbit from the artical said that HRC returned a $2300 check to Kenedy after Kenedy endorsed BHO. I'm surprised about that. Cash is cash, and if CLinton had it in hand, why would she give it back?

(big secret is pay to play applies everywhere)

but that is an unspoken assumption, an outright demand is illegal

For some politicians, "pay" to campaigns would allow a person a chance to present their case to a candidate or politician ("access"). But under some administrations, it wasn't required in order to win a merit based contract with the state (or federal agency). That's where they gone further.

The Germans don't sink the pirates because they supposedly signed a sea treaty that emasculated their ability to take defensive actions against sea piracy. You know the law is the law and the germans (probably under socialist former PM Schroeder) had a moronic government at the helm which the German people will be paying for, for years to come.

in some way I think corruption can be minimized at the state and local level if voters pay attention and keep up the pressure to be fairly represented...Fedzilla on the other hand may be out of reach...there will be no third party...there will be no tax revolt...there will be complacency and idolitarianism...I have little faith of reigning in that Beast...not at all likely...imo

Good Morning LT! How was your holiday?

Not too good. The standard relative visit went as well as could be expected. Problem came Christmas eve when we got home to find one of our three cats with inoperable back legs and tail. Rushed him to the emergency vet only to get told he had a "Saddle Thrombosis" which apparently is a cat problem involving a blood clot big enough to cut off blood flow in the main arteries to the legs.

We had to put him down and spent the rest of Christmas Eve digging a grave in the back yard for him.

Not the way to get festive.

The Rainbows Bridge Poem

RainbowsBridge.com
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Author unknown...

I'm so sorry LT...

It's more than a technicality, IMO.

He's clearly a secularist who only attended any church because (the Rev. Wright racist baiting place) because he got political benefit.

Some people may think it does not matter, but I think it matters for two reasons:
1. As you note, the hypocracy of his rhetoric, and
2. When the chips are down, and he has to make the loneliest of decisions, where is Obama going to turn for guidanace? I like to think the president will pray for guidance and not just go for an extra-strenuous workout......but that's just me.

Hey good morning my friend! 83 huh? G'wan get outta here - that's just ridiculous for this time of year!
:)

The temps here have been all over the place, Monday we had a high of 43, today 83 and this weekend the low 60's. Most cold fronts only last about two days before the norm temps kick back in. I heard this morning that you're expecting a lot of rain today...do you have your floaties handy?

re: #177 David IV of Georgia

It's all the people buying guns and ammo. I live a mile from one—it's been swamped with business ever since the election.

Beginning of the month, I received a news letter from one of larger/primary gun/parts suppliers - Brownells, Midway, can't remember which - they were saying that states were seeing sales up in the mid-30 percentages with some up into the 50's - year-over-year.

While there's a lot of windage in the media stating sales are up in anticipation that Obummer will limit or reduce our rights, there is, I believe, something left unstated - an implied and probably growing lack of confidence and/or distrust in our gubbermint.

If everybody loves & trusts Obummer so much, why the hell are weapons sales going through the roof - with sales greater than Y2K and more than September 11, 2001? hmmm? Something does not compute.

I never actually bought in to his Christian conversion. I do not doubt that he is a Christian of some description, but in no traditional sense.
It is well known in the Chicago Metro Area that membership in Trinity is a good, social, economic & political move in the African/American Community.

Interesting article in the paper this morning, the Obama's did not attend Christmas Services & have not attended church since they left Trinity.
He claims two reasons, he does not want to find a permnent Church until they move to DC & that a President going yesterday to Services would be disruptive.
I know this is just a technicality , but he is not yet President & I don't care who goes to Chrch or not , but if you wear your faith on your sleeve you ought to go.

Other actual Presidents (and presidents-elect) have gone to church. I haven't noticed those other churches being disrupted, particularly. Sometimes the press catches 'em outside after services, but that's it.

He is trying to justify himself.

This one was 10. Never heard of this problem in cats before, but with hindsight, we can see that the cat's recent vet visit where the vet heard a heart murmur (within the last month) for the first time, the writing was on the wall.

We're gonna hang out all day until tonite when the boys and I got to Ford Field to watch the Motor City bowl. We go every year. Highly recommended. But alas, he wasn't a wide receiver so it was not be.

Tonight its Central Michigan vs Florida Atlantic. Howard Schnellenberger is in the house. Without checking, I wouldn't be surprised if the over/under was around 80 points for these two teams. Should be fun.

My BDS suffering relatives actually had a countdown to Bush's last day key chain.

When I looked at it it there was 30 day, 16 hours, 24 minutes and 15 seconds left of adults in charge.

You're blessed, I'm sure he will feel a lot better knowing you have a GPS to guide your way. Now hit those sales today...my wife and daughter were out the door at 6 am this morning. We bought the kids a Wii...now the wife is hunting for a Wii Fit.

the Wii Fit looks pretty neat! I wouldn't mind having that, but I guess I need a Wii first.
Hitting the sales with young Reine is indeed on the agenda for later.

re: #407 Ben Hur
Good morning Ben - Fox had a 30 second clip of Obama going into the mess hall and the only folks I saw stand up and extend their hands were Black Troops. White and Asian of course stood up when he approached them, and certainly shook his hand when it was proferred, but they didn't do it "voluntarily". Wonder just how uneducated and ignorant those "hicks" were.

North of Charlotte, south of Blowing Rock. Originally from ATL.

How long ago were you "from" Atlanta? I've lived here for 10 years now (Boston native)

NC has some great town names. Blowing Rock and Seven Devils were my favorite until I drove through Lizard Lick.

There is a store in Nyack NY that has that. I wanted to pee in their door way but my wife wouldn't let me?

Se , I doubt that BHO ever even played guns as a kid. Now he will be Commander in Chief & he will milk it.

Well I didn't read it that way; I mean it's a privately owned newspaper and I guess they get to decide what to print or not print as they see fit. And the last paragraph is correct; Dodd and Frank were not solely responsible for the ecomonic melt-down. They were in FRONT, but they weren't the only ones responsible.
