Last Sunday in the regular NFL Season comin right up.
The Bears have had everything break their way last week.
Now if the Giants play their game against the Vikings, the Bears just need to beat Houston.
I am a Bears fan & they are a testament to tenacious mediocrity.

My Grandfather was a Customs/Immigration officer @ Coutts/Sweetgrass - Canadian border. His family was from Nova Scotia. We celebrated it in our home by putting together boxes of food (can goods, etc.) and gave them to the less fortunate in the community.

You folks might recall that Obama held the Chinese infrastructure in particularly high regard - especially around the time of the Beijing Olympics. Well, turns out that the infrastructure isn't nearly as good as Obama thought - or what the Chinese themselves claimed.
Not when hundreds of their schools collapsed because they had substandard rebar (or lacked any altogether) and crumbled in the Sichuan quake killing more than 88,000 people in all (no one knows for sure just how many children were killed because the government refuses to separate out that particular fact).
Still,
the Chinese have made the most widespread admissions to date that millions of square feet of schools are incapable of providing proper quake protection.

When I was at Disney World's Epcot Center recently, they had a large, decorated pine tree displayed prominently. I then wondered if it was a Christmas tree or one of those newfangled "Holiday" trees. There were a number of placards on the tree, and the only ones that said "Merry Christmas" were in foreign languages so as not to antagonize over-sensitive Americans, apparently. What was in English was a placard that wished my unspecified holidays would be "happy" and one that said "Have a Joyous Kwanzaa." That made me wonder why Kwanzaa was the only holiday that could get specific mention in English. Perhaps the tenets of Kwanzaa could be offensive to me. Of course, I had no idea what Kwanzaa was and whether to be offended, so I asked the nearest Disney employee what Kwanzaa was. It happened to be Mickey Mouse, and he just shrugged his shoulders and danced a happy little jig in response. I then knocked him to the ground and demanded answers.
And, if any prosecutor asks, Mickey produced his own weapon before I pulled out the switchblade.
While the most common question in regards to Kwanzaa is "What the hell is Kwanzaa?" perhaps that's the wrong question to be asking. Maybe a better question is whether Kwanzaa exists at all. Not only do I not know anyone who celebrates Kwanzaa, I don't even know anyone who knows anyone who knows how to celebrate Kwanzaa if he or she wanted to.
The traditional story about the creation of Kwanzaa is that, in 1966, an American black militant exclaimed, "I ain't celebrating no white man's holiday!" and made a new African holiday whichs celebration would start the day after Christmas. As charming as that story is, there simply is no evidence to corroborate it. If Kwanzaa has been around nearly forty years, wouldn't there be some documented evidence of a Kwanzaa celebration? Instead, all supposed proof of Kwanzaa is highly questionable.
Furthermore, I don't remember hearing anything about Kwanzaa until sometime in the 90's. A quick Google search found no references to Kwanzaa before the invention of the World Wide Web, something that took place well after 1966.
With further research and the use of the great journalist staple - unnamed sources - I found out that Kwanzaa was not actually created until the mid 90's, and, not only was it not made by black militants, it was created by an old, rich white man.
Sometime in the 90's, political correctness started to take hold during the holidays with TV making sure to wish a "Happy Hanukah" and "Happy Holidays" along with the then common "Merry Christmas" (Ramadan was not mentioned since we had yet to have a large scale terrorist attack). An executive at NBC decided to one-up the competition in how diverse they were by having an African holiday to mention. Not wanting to bother to do the research to find an actual holiday, the executive made up a holiday, named it after his daughter's imaginary friend, and gave it a flimsy back-story. When others saw the mention of this "Kwanzaa," they did not question it so as not to be accused of being racist. Not long after, everyone was mentioning Kwanzaa during the Christmas season though none knew what it was.
In conclusion, while Christmas and Easter have fictional characters to tell our children about, the holiday of Kwanzaa itself is the fiction. If someone wishes you a joyous Kwanzaa, you wish him right back a blissful Flibberdygibble.
This is Pajamas Media reporter Frank J. signing off.
Heh.

Yeah, I remember Zombie objected to what s/he thought was an equivocation of Kwanzaa and Festivus wtih the real holidays. Can't say I blame him/her too much for overreacting -- around here, in the land of MultiKulti Uber Alles and Snarky Ironicism At All Costs, it does sometimes seem that the two made-up contemporary holidays are treated as equally (or even more) legitimate as the three historic celebrations.

Wow - I had no idea that Vikings were sensitive!
One of the funniest observations about that subejct was made, I believe, by author Nick Tosches. He was talking about the rise of hypersensitivity in the 70s, and claimed that he once saw a handbill issued by the Klu Klux Klan during the Carter years that referred to the Invisible Empire's sheeted hordes as Klanspersons. Tosches said something like, "When even the KKK had to use politically-correct language, you knew the forces of Social Sensitivity had triumphed!"

Did my hike up Mt. San Bruno with the missus. An outstanding clear day. She had a hare run in front of her and (no kidding) she screamed and ran back toward me. I about wet myself laughing. The hare was not small, but still, no reason to go in to fits.
Her maiden name wasn't Carter, was it?

One of the funniest observations about that subejct was made, I believe, by author Nick Tosches. He was talking about the rise of hypersensitivity in the 70s, and claimed that he once saw a handbill issued by the Klu Klux Klan during the Carter years that referred to the Invisible Empire's sheeted hordes as Klanspersons. Tosches said something like, "When even the KKK had to use politically-correct language, you knew the forces of Social Sensitivity had triumphed!"
Goodness gracious me - sensitive KKK, biw I've heard everything!
Mind - the way us Brits remember the Vikings, sensitive is not exactly a description which springs to mind ...

Trader Joe's rocks my socks. They have achieved the economically impossible: high-quality foods and beverages at comparatively low costs.
Great wine selection and an all around fun place to shop. Did I mention the killer dark chocolate?

OMG! I hadn't thought about Trader Joe's in years! When we lived in Encino, that was a weekly stop on the shopping route. Best stuff ever, and always cool surprise products. Between there and Gelson's (supermarket to the stars, dontcha' know), it was heaven.

It was a mild attempt at humor. Lame maybe, but still just humor.
Kwanzaa is really laughable, but hey Festivus was a good Sienfeld episode.

Yes, I'm remembering the 3 - 4 inches of snow with fondness when I'm digging out the shed so we can get the snowblower out, when I'm slogging thru knee deep snow or sliding across our driveway which is experiencing a serious bout of schizoid behavior. it snows, we clear, it rains then freezes then snows again. It actually is pretty much like a ice skating rink now. Rockefeller center has nothing on us.
I may not have mentioned this... I dislike snow, rather a lot. I'm thinking of suing algore for mental distress. I was looking forward to this global warming thing he kept prattling about

I was looking forward to this global warming thing he kept prattling about
It's not wonder you are having trouble with all the Fluffy White Global Warming Crystals (TM), you didn't get the memo. This is not global warming per say, this is climate change.

So, my question is for Charles is whether he has the account identity info on a drive that is physically off the internet... a space with no connection... to protect the data from the LGF stalkers. And The Population Bomb (1968) predicted "in the 1970s and 1980s hundreds of millions of people will starve to death" and that nothing could stop it. And in later editions, predictions already proven false were quietly removed.
Amongst other remarks, Ehrlich also stated that "India couldn't possibly feed two hundred million more people by 1980," and "I have yet to meet anyone familiar with the situation who thinks that India will be self-sufficient in food by 1971." These predictions did not come to pass. In the book's 1971 edition, the latter prediction had been removed.

Which phrase that causes a lot of misunderstand. Some people use it to mean they are free not to believe, while others use it to describe a society where non-believers are "free" from having to hear or see others practicing their religion. In other words, a religion-free society.

(1) Would it be possible to permit embedding only on some threads, so that people who find that they slow down page loading too much can avoid opening YouTube threads without missing other comment-section content?
(2) Is there a technical or security reason why you've decided that embedded videos are okay, but LGF doesn't allow img links in comments? (I'm about 90% sure of what the answer is, but better to get the explanation from Charles himself).
(3) Howcome LGF doesn't gots a spoiler-text option in its comment formatting buttons? (I.e., that would set the selected text to the background color.) It's so simple to implement that I'm wondering if there's some unintended nuisance aspect to it that I'm overlooking.

Or what about having a standing space on these pages that has videos that people link? Like the links feature, but with the square frames listed down the left or right margin... And then tell people to only put videos related to Charles's topics inside each of these comment threads. The ones in the margins could be our music favorites, etc. and the ones in the thread comments could be either related to Charles's topic or an OT needing discussion.

I remember several years ago when the Boeing mechanics went on strike. They were already making nearly six figures, and they weren't satisfied with the 10% or so raise that Boeing wanted to give them, so they went out on strike. This when I was watching the end of my job rapidly approaching, and hadn't gotten a raise in a couple of years.
You can't pay Union thugs enough to make them quit being thugs. Hopefully after bankruptcy the auto industry will be able to shake out the chaff at all levels and get back to the business of offering cars people want at prices that people can afford.
The only problem is that they are going to get the bailout. the democraps in congress are way in the bag for the unions. this isn't about the auto industry it is about bailing out the unions. If any of the big 3 go thru bankruptcy that brings all the contract into play again. And you can bet your a$$ there will need to be real concessions. I'd like to see them dump the unions. I know, pure fantasy, right up there with flying rainbow colored unicorns

In religious studies I do nremember that the early Christians were very persecuted & resorted to secret services in homes.
After the death of Stephen, there was persecution, primarily from the Sadducees who were religious leaders put in place by Rome. They tossed the followers of Yeshua out of the Temple and the Temple service. It is about the only time in history that the Pharisees and Sadducees agreed on something.
During the Roman persecution, yes, the assemblies went underground.

Your hunch is mistaken -- posting links to or passages from the Bible is not "frowned upon here," generally speaking.
I said "generally speaking" because I suppose if someone were quoting the Bible in a manner that appeared to be intended solely for purposes of starting a fight, or worsening an existing flamewar, THAT would be frowned upon, but it would be the real or perceived intent behind the posting that was the issue, and not the Biblical content per se. Also, it might annoy some people if you quote the Bible in a thread about Subject X, where no one has even asked, "well, what does the Bible and/or Judeo-Christian tradition have to say on Subject X?"
But it's certainly okay to quote the Bible if you're having a discussion with another lizard about what the followers of Jesus were doing in the first and second century CE, because the Christian New Testament is one of the few primary sources available -- so what else are you going to quote from?

Act 7:52 Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers:
Act 7:53 Who have received the law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept it.
Act 7:54 When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth.
It goes on to say they stoned him, but this is the relevant part.

The last time I was driving in the serious snow, it was in a blizzard and they wuz about to close I-80 from Reno all the way to Placer County. I fell in behind a snow plow, had the chains on, and me and another musician car pooled. We spun out around Emigrant Gap (this is not too far from the ill fated Donner Party site) in total white out conditions. You could not tell where the sky ended and the road began. Forget about the lines on the highway. Had not seen them in hours. My partner called his girlfriend on the cell phone and was saying his final goodbyes to her. I had my head out the window trying to see something, anything. We were doing 360 degree spins, over and over. Finally we got righted. Took us about 9 hours to go about 40 miles. At that place, people go off the highway and in to a half mile deep canyon and are sometimes never found ever again.
f*ck snow, I'll be going to Rio.

UAW Vows to Fight Salary Concessions
In agreeing to provide federal assistance to General Motors and Chrysler, the White House demanded the firms cut worker compensation to the levels paid at the U.S. divisions of Toyota, Nissan and Honda. But Ron Gettelfinger, president of the United Auto Workers, said earlier this week that he would seek to remove the wage-reduction provision of the loan, calling it "an undue tax on the workers" who have already made "major" sacrifices for the benefit of the auto industry.
Gettelfinger said that what is being asked of the autoworkers -- who agreed to concessions in 2003, 2005 and 2007 -- is "unrealistic." He has said he wants to work with President-elect Barack Obama to remove the wage provision.
Autoworkers Union Keeps $6 Million Golf Course for Members at $33 Million Lakeside Retreat
The United Auto Workers may be out of the hole now that President Bush has approved a $17 billion bailout of the U.S. auto industry, but the union isn't out of the bunker just yet.
Even as the industry struggles with massive losses, the UAW brass continue to own and operate a $33 million lakeside retreat in Michigan, complete with a $6.4 million designer golf course. And it's costing them millions each year.

Ok, daughter home from college & the new beau coming to dinner.
She is scared to death that i will say something really inappropriate to the guy.
When she was a sophmore in high school , I called her date back as the were leaving for the Homecoming dance.
I said, "I reallyought to tell you that I have been having Agent Orange induced flashbacks all day. I am even hearing helocopter blades. I would really like it if you got my daughter home on time & unwrinkled"
Seems reasonable, right?

Opnion,
Here are the Acts passages, first one shows that the men who accused Stephen were paid to lie, the second one, at the end of Stephen's recounting the history of Israel in Acts 7, is the turning point. Up to this part, the Council had listened to him without interruption.
Act 6:11 Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.
Act 6:12 And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,
Act 6:13 And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:
(to suborn is to bribe)

Peruvian Jesus born to Virgin Mary on Christmas
LIMA (Reuters) – Virgin Mary, a 20-year-old Peruvian woman, gave birth to a baby boy on Christmas day and named him Jesus, Peru's state news agency said on Friday.
The baby's father, Adolfo Jorge Huamani, 24, is a carpenter. Religious Peruvians compared him to Joseph the Carpenter in the Bible.
"Two thousand years later the story of Bethlehem is relived," read the headline about the birth in El Comercio, the main newspaper in Peru, a predominantly Catholic country.
The mother, Virgen Maria Huarcaya, delivered the 7.7 pound (3.5 kg) boy, Jesus Emanuel, in the early hours of Christmas at the central maternity hospital in Lima, the capital.
"A few days ago we had decided to name my son after a professional soccer player," the father said. "But thanks to a happy coincidence this is how things ended up."

Leave it to Wiki to say the half-truth, that Stephen was charged with blasphemy, and leave out that the extremely relevant part that the blasphemy charge was untrue.

Stars of Hollywood, high-tech open wallets for Obama party
WASHINGTON (AFP) – Stars of Hollywood including Halle Berry and Steven Spielberg and bosses of high-tech giants like Google and Microsoft are opening their wallets to help fund Barack Obama's inauguration party.
Obama, in keeping with his vow to purge US politics of influence peddling, has ordered that the names of all inauguration donors, withheld by previous presidents, be published on the Internet.
Lists of those stumping up for the inauguration on January 20 show that Spielberg and his wife, Kate, each gave the maximum 50,000 dollar donation.
Actress Halle Berry, listed as working for her Bumper Inc. production company, also gave 50,000 dollars, as did comedian and actor Jamie Foxx.
A Sharon Stone, of California is also on the list with a 50,000 donation.
Obama's inauguration fund is also attracting big contributions from titans of the US Internet and software industry.
Google CEO Eric Schmidt, who served on Obama's campaign economic advisory board, gave 25,000 dollars, as did Google co-founder Larry Page and Google vice president Marissa Mayer.
Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft gave 50,000 dollars, as did his wife, Connie.
Former basketball star and businessman Earvin "Magic" Johnson also gave 25,000 dollars and five members of the family of billionaire financier and philanthropist George Soros racked up 250,000 dollars between them.
The fund is required to pay for the long list of balls and other commemorative events on and around inauguration day. Big money donors can expect special ticket privileges and VIP access to events.
The list of fundraisers is detailed on the Presidential Inaugural Committee website at pic2009.org/donors.

A colony of honey bees in early spring has 20,000-40,000 bees.
A colony of honey bees in summer has 80-100,000 bees.
Anti-overpopulation liberals are on the case.
A worker bee gathers in her entire life 0.8 gram (0.0288 ounce) of honey.
It requires 556 worker bees to gather a pound of honey.
Bees fly more than once around the world to gather a pound of honey.
The average life of a honey bee during the working season is about six weeks.

Hobbyists are trying genetic engineering at home
SAN FRANCISCO – The Apple computer was invented in a garage. Same with the Google search engine. Now, tinkerers are working at home with the basic building blocks of life itself.
Using homemade lab equipment and the wealth of scientific knowledge available online, these hobbyists are trying to create new life forms through genetic engineering — a field long dominated by Ph.D.s toiling in university and corporate laboratories.
What could possibly go wrong?

WASHINGTON (AFP) – Stars of Hollywood including Halle Berry and Steven Spielberg and bosses of high-tech giants like Google and Microsoft are opening their wallets to help fund Barack Obama's inauguration party.
What happened to the remainder of the $750 million he raised? Doesn't he have left-over$$$ to pay for his own party?

Kennedy is an attorney, writer, editor and serves on the boards of numerous non-profit organizations.
From 2002 through 2004, Kennedy worked as director of the Office of Strategic Partnerships for the the New York City Department of Education. The three-day-a week job paid her a salary of $1 and had the goal of raising private money for the New York City public schools.[19] In that capacity, she helped raise more than $65 million for the city’s public schools.[20][3] She currently serves as one of two vice chairs of the board of directors of The Fund for Public Schools, a public-private partnership founded in 2002 to attract private funding for public schools in New York City.[21] According to The Politico, her children attended "one of Manhattan’s most exclusive private schools." [22] She has also served on the board of trustees of Concord Academy, which she attended as a child.[23]
Kennedy and other members of her family created the Profiles in Courage Award in 1989. The award is given to a public official or officials at the federal, state or local level whose actions best demonstrate the qualities of politically courageous leadership in the spirit of John F. Kennedy's book, Profiles in Courage.[24] In addition, Kennedy is currently president of the Kennedy Library Foundation.[3] She is also an adviser to the Harvard Institute of Politics, a living memorial to her father.
She is a member of the New York and Washington, D.C. bar associations. She is also a member of the boards of directors of the Commission on Presidential Debates and the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, and is an honorary chair of the American Ballet Theatre.[24]
Kennedy has represented her family at the funeral services of former Presidents Ronald Reagan in 2004 and Gerald Ford in 2007, and at the funeral service of former First Lady Lady Bird Johnson in 2007. She also represented her family at the dedication of the William J. Clinton Presidential Center and Park in Little Rock, Arkansas in November 2004.

Author, publisher defend disputed Holocaust memoir
NEW YORK – The author and publisher of a disputed Holocaust memoir defended the book's story of love between two survivors, but also called it a work of memory and not of scholarship."This is my personal story as I remember it," Herman Rosenblat, 79, said in a statement issued Thursday through Berkley Books, which will release his "Angel at the Fence" in February.
Berkley added its own comments, noting that a leading Holocaust expert, Michael Berenbaum, had found the story's "general outline" credible, but also saying that "any memoir based on the memories of a survivor is verifiable only by him or her alone."
Rosenblat's book is based on his well-publicized story — embraced by Oprah Winfrey among others — of how he met his future wife, Roma Radzicki, on opposite sides of a barbed-wire fence at a Nazi concentration camp. Scholars have questioned whether such an encounter could have happened.
"The events that are its background are part of history; the book, however, reflects my memories of how the events affected my life. I was a young child at the time my family was caught up in the Holocaust, and I saw things through a young child's eyes. But I know and remember what I saw," Rosenblat said in his statement.
"What I offer in this memoir are the images, sounds, smells and feelings that have stayed in my mind for some seven decades."
As the Rosenblats have recounted on numerous occasions over the past decade, he was a teenager in a concentration camp in Nazi-controlled Germany and she was slightly younger, her family pretending to be Christian and living nearby.
They met at the camp's fence, where for months she would sneak him apples and bread. Rosenblat was eventually transferred to another camp and lost track of his friend until years after the war, when both were living in New York and met on a blind date. Upon talking about their lives, they recognized each other and were soon married, in 1958.
The couple live in the Miami area in Florida.

Twice as hard as she normally works.
She doesn't work now nor has she ever I believe. She put her name on a ghost written book. But has never held a job. So using multiplication as my guide I come up with this.
2 X 0 = 0
She apparently just has to have the last name of Kennedy it seems.

When liberalism creeps into naval flight training:
During aviation indoctrination (AI) we were all paired up with guys of equal size and required to box three rounds wearing headgear and gloves, of course. Boxing was required at the Naval Academy for a couple semesters of P.E., so I no longer had that bad habit of throwing a punch then lowering my hands to see where it went.
My opponent dropped his gloves every single time he threw a punch, so I simply timed my punches to coincide with this lowering of his guard. After decking the guy about three times, the AI instructor told me to quit hitting him in the head and to only hit his body.
So, I'm dancing around, handling him with kid gloves when he lands a right hook that left my neck screwed up for about 10 years. It made the left side of my face numb for a couple days and almost prevented me from continuing on in training.
That's when all that liberal indoctrination (civilian professors make up about half of the staff) was knocked out of my head.
