Tech Note: Still More Embedded Videos in Comments

Building on our new embedded YouTube video feature, you can now include Google and Liveleak videos in a comment as well. The procedure is similar to the method you use to embed YouTube videos:

1) Browse to the page at YouTube, Google or Liveleak that contains the video. At Google this is not the “video search” page; you get to the individual video page by clicking the link beneath the video that says, “Watch this video on video.google.com”.

2) Copy/paste the web address of the video (shown at the top of your browser window - not the “embed” link!) into the comment. The best way is to put this URL on a separate line, all by itself.

Everything else is automatic.

It’s fairly easy to add new video formats, so expect support for more video sharing sites soon…

  • Comments do not necessarily reflect the views of Little Green Footballs.
  • Obscene, abusive, silly, or annoying remarks may be deleted, but the fact that particular comments remain on the site in no way constitutes an endorsement of their views by Little Green Footballs.
  • Posts that contain phone numbers, street addresses, email addresses or other personal information will also be deleted, as will posts that consist only of a variation on the word, "First!"
  • Comments that advocate violence will be cause for immediate banning with no appeal.
  • Disagreement and debate are welcome, but insults and abuse are not, and may cause your account to be blocked.
  • REMEMBER: posting comments at LGF is a privilege, not a right. Abuse that privilege, and your account will be blocked.

Everything right here, don't have to get up anymore.

It's a good thing I still have to walk to the fridge for beer or I'd weigh 700lbs.

Bet it was one of these:

* Obscene, abusive, silly, or annoying remarks may be deleted, but the fact that particular comments remain on the site in no way constitutes an endorsement of their views by Little Green Footballs.
* Posts that contain phone numbers, street addresses, email addresses or other personal information will also be deleted, as will posts that consist only of a variation on the word, "First!"
* Comments that advocate violence will be cause for immediate banning with no appeal.

Not following the golden rules:

* Comments are open and unmoderated, and do not necessarily reflect the views of Little Green Footballs.

Charles: Is this because you are now on the smoking hot server that you can offer better and more advanced media? Is it server side or is it software?
or a combo of both?

Charles, can I recommend developing your code to embed videos from the "The Daily Leather News" site?

I'm posting this video just because. How long before our home grown one-worlders in the DNC/Watchdog Media ban its playing during the Super Bowl because its too flag-wavy?

If a someone starts treading the line, especially newer lizards an old head will give a warning. It pays the youngun's to pay heed to such warnings. Not everything is written down, some is learned, mostly from the older lizards.

Who was awaiting Palestinian propaganda from today's attacks? Here's one for you to ponder.

The Palis relish their "victim" status. They are poor souls subjected to evil actions by the even "eviler" Israelis. They seem to have no interest in improving their lot in life, just extending the "Oh woe is us" mode. I would have to say that those people are just about the most pathetic people on the planet. How many billions of dollars have flowed into that area? How many chances have they had to make their own country? How many times have they been offered a fair peace and refused it?

I wonder what the breaking point of that place is. I would say that since the majority of Palis wanted Hamas...they will get what they deserve if things really get out of hand...Israel is not going anywhere soon, they should start to realize that and start working on their own monumental problems.

Looking for fauxtography this morning?

As a matter of fact, I am. Looking at this one right now.

A wounded Palestinian is rushed to the hospital after Israeli air force attacked Gaza City December 27, 2008. Israel's air force fired about 30 missiles at targets in the Gaza Strip on Saturday, destroying several Hamas police compounds and killing more than 140 people, medical officials and witnesses said.
(Suhaib Salem/Reuters)

I don't wish to downplay the injuries of Palestinian civilians, but this guy doesn't appear all that injured. Just sharpening up the skepticism for now.

There's actually no real impact on our server from this -- the videos are all being served from their own sites, all the LGF code does is insert the HTML "embed" tags for the videos when you click the link (with Javascript).

29 Abu Bin Squid  Sat, Dec 27, 2008 9:36:26am

Is the video in #20 a boy doing "I'm A Lumberjack" in opera?

/hurt my ears

30 experiencedtraveller  Sat, Dec 27, 2008 9:44:20am

re: #29 Abu Bin Squid

Actually its Mozart's aria The Queen of the Night from the opera The Magic Flute. In this example it is sung by a Boy Soprano.

To embed the video, don't make an HTML link out of it - just paste the URL into the comment on its own line:

Roger that big green. In your post #31 above your embed now displaying "this video is no longer available". Yet clicking on my provided link in #30 still displays the video.

Yeah, sometimes YouTube gets like that. Embedding doesn't work but the page at their site does.

LOL! I saw this the day I brought home my new Golden Retriever puppy. I tried to show it to him, but he seemed disinterested. Probably better he didn't, that's all I need is a kleptomaniac canine.

I don't know if it's something on this site or something else I was looking at... Something is making YouTube only show the first two seconds, even when I try viewing on the YouTube site. Dragging the position forward shows two more seconds before stalling again. Buffering bar shows the video is loading.

NoScript is also whining about a possible XSS attack.
