A senior Israeli military officer says jetfighters have carried out some 500 sorties against Hamas targets in Gaza. He says helicopters have flown hundreds more combat missions.
The officer claimed 95 percent of the intended targets were hit.

I think that was for PR purposes in order to demonstrate that the grads were actually being fired and were not simply mock-ups created by Hamas to make it look like they had grads when they didn't. I hate that they had to let the one go, but it may have been neccessary for the war of words -- which the Israelis seem to be on top of this time.

They seem to be using a lot of missiles, as opposed to guided gravity bombs.
FAS list of smart weapons.
In the missile category, look at what can be carried by F-15s and -16s.
Then look at the CEP (Circular Error Probability) that's the average of how far off the bullseye they are. Missiles have none listed, bombs do.
Israel is using up more expensive stuff, guided missiles as opposed to bombs. To insure accuracy. This ensures mission success and limits collateral damage.

Here in Philly, there was a disgusting little "Stop the Bombing" rally yesterday, dutifully covered by the Philly Pinkwire newspaper today. Yesterday the Pinky ran a lead editorial blaming George Bush for what's happening in Gaza.

And during a demonstration in the Hague people were carrying pictures of the Ayatollahs of Iran, Ahmadinejad, banners stating that Anne Frank would be ashamed of Israel and so on.
The general stuff was being shouted through a megaphone in Dutch, but much of it also in Arabic. There were islamic prayers and something which sounded like Arabic war music. But as I don't understand Arabic, I cannot tell for sure. I can only tell that it sounded pretty much equal to the music you hear in those cheesy Hamas martyr's videos.

Gaza is a smaller area, with flatter terrain, and the IDF has had plenty of time to scan the entire battlespace in multiple spectrums, so most prepared positions should have been detected and be under observation. once they are manned, in anticipation of, or reaction to a ground attack, you hit them with PGM's and kill the occupants.

Have to agree. Think about the US Marines' grand tour of the Pacific during WWII. About the only advantage over the Marines the IDF would have is that Arabs are not nearly as ready to die for their cause as the Japanese were.

Yes..these 'demonstrations' are worrying..Here in Canada in 2006 there was an anti-Israel, well more like pro-Hezbollah rally, in Toronto, if I'm not mistaken - attended by the leader of the Green party, as well as some MPs from the socialist NDP.. those 2 parties got something like 25% of the vote in the last election. That's the most worrying thing..

What the IAF (Israeli Air Force) is taking out (evidence in first video LiveLeak posted above) are not shoulder-held "qassam" rockets, but Grad rockets and their launch sites. Obviously, if a rocket is hitting Beersheba, 28 miles from the Gaza Strip, then the rockets aren't being "shoulder launched", as you're no doubt aware (but seemingly the LIARS at CNN are broadcasting ancient "news" reels circa 2000? showing Qassam, "homemade" rockets -- as if this were the sole concern of the Israeli military, when such a suggestion belies the actual videos currently released by the IAF).

The press corps is generally completely ignorant about weapons. I remember talking to a rather bright young reporter, who, despite having been covering national security for a few years, couldn't tell what sort of weapon the SWAT guys were carrying.
She referred to them as, "big, scary guns."

If one marries one's cousin, the risks aren't that high, no - that's quite correct, if I remember my genetic lottery scores. But, if one marries one's cousin, and it's been going on for several generations, the risks rise sharply.
That is, if one's mother and father, and grandmothers and grandfathers and so one, were all cousins, you're asking for trouble.
Consanguity after the third generation is okay, anything "earlier" than third-generation and the risk of recessives combining (in a bad way) rises asymptotically. So sayeth the genetecists.

IDF needs to stop nit picking real estates and target the breathing scums that hide in their coward holes or Mosques (reports say they disguise themselves as doctors / nurses in hospitals to avoid being targeted) and free Shalit.
If the Islamic Nazis executed him or won't return him, Israel must raze Gaza into a sandbox. Enough is enough, this is the time these fascists need to be defeated and kneel to Israel 5 times a day. If that opens up other fronts, Israel has the power to go Sparta.
So Israel, take the first step from bombing unmanned real estates and offices and enjoy the ride.

My son is working in Dubai. All New Year's parties and celebrations, including in private homes, were cancelled by the Sheik today. Anyone disobeying will be arrested. It is to show sympathy for the Palestinians.

If, after this latest battle of good vs evil, the world keeps spinning, we should keep on the front burner the inevitable truth that mankind will never vanquish evil. We just have to be steadfast in discerning it and courageous enough to force it into retreat until the next skirmish. The Cold War was never won, Hitler never remains dead, North Korea, North Vietnam, and Cuba still exist. Good can never become complacent.
