Got a Big Hamas Fish

Middle East | Thu, Jan 1, 2009 at 9:37:44 am PST

A senior Hamas freakazoid cleric considered the successor of Sheikh Ahmed Yassin won’t be sending any more of his children into Israel as suicidal mass murderers.

Sheikh Nizar Rayyan, 52, a senior Hamas leader and cleric, was killed along with several others on Thursday when an IAF aircraft dropped a bomb on the eight-story Jabalya apartment building he lived in, the IDF said.

Palestinian medics said that nine people were killed, including two of Rayyan’s four wives and four of his 12 children, and around 30 were wounded in the air strike. ...

Security officials said that Rayyan was not only the religious leader of Hamas’s military wing, Izzadin Kassam, but also one of their military commanders. He was often seen in uniform, and participated in military exercises. He was considered one of the most fanatical Hamas commanders, and was said to be close to Hamas terrorist Salah Shehadeh, who was killed by the IAF in 2002.

In October 2001, he sent his son to perpetrate a suicide attack in the Gush Katif settlement Elei Sinai, in which two young Israelis were killed.

Here's what I don't get. This guy and his extended family lived in an eight story building. The Israelis abandoned Gaza years ago and Gaza has been the subject of self-rule (for better or worse -- and we know which). Yet, the article refers to all of this as a "Gaza refugee camp." Refugee -- from what? Camp -- where are the pup tents? Why the insistence on this phrase?

For an excellent essay by a proverbial moderate Muslim read the linked article. Read the whole thing.

I don't think they have one. Maybe this is just all about getting through the day. One expects more in the way of insight and strategy from Israel, but in this case, maybe not.

55 Ben Hur  Thu, Jan 1, 2009 9:52:29am

Just saw the video of the destroyed building.

If Israel was "carpet bombing" civilians, why would there be crowds of "civilians" gathered around the rubble, apparently not worried about getting blown up?

Israeli's are the ones in shelters.

Of course that's only heroic if you're British.

The Palestinians are trying to claim that the truck in this stike was transporting oxygen.....
Suspicion: bombed truck carried oxygen tanks and not grad rockets

B’Tselem received the testimony of Ahmad Sanur, the owner of the truck bombed. Sanur claims the truck was carrying oxygen canisters used for welding, not Grad rockets. B'Tselem field worker took photos of oxygen canisters left on the site of the bombing.

According to Sanur’s testimony, he and members of his family were trying to salvage material from a metal workshop he owns, which was next door to a bombed house, in order to prevent looting. He denies any connection to militants, or military activity, and is willing to talk to any journalist, or investigator.

With photo "evidence". I'm waiting for the MSM to pick this up.

Today, Burris' lawyers took the first legal action in what could be a prolonged court fight, seeking to force Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White to certify Blagojevich's paperwork making the appointment.

Should Burris appear in Washington without that certification, armed police officers stand ready to bar him from the Senate floor, said a Democratic official briefed on Senate leaders' plans.

From a link in the spinoffs...

Israeli F-16 jets fired two missiles at Rayan's five-storey house in the Jabaliya refugee camp in northern Gaza. The powerful explosion hurled his decapitated body out into the street, according to witnesses.

They need to find his head I would think unless his entire wardrobe consisted of one pile of rags.

165 Ben Hur  Thu, Jan 1, 2009 10:18:41am

Let’s talk about justice

David Moria, whose son was killed by terrorists, has no sympathy for Gazans who celebrated in streets

About 10 months ago, after our 16-year-old son was murdered in a terror attack along with seven of his friends, TV screens worldwide showed festive images from Gaza that included dances, the handing out of sweets, and gleeful shots fired in the air – alongside the terrible images of the blood-soaked library at the Mercaz Harav yeshiva in Jerusalem.

I won’t deny the fact that the current images from Gaza elegantly circumvent my humanistic instinct and make their way to a satisfying sense of the most primitive desire for revenge. Yet my sense of justice has also been satisfied. Moreover, anyone living in this country knows that soon we shall again see the images of the blood of innocent Jews, and again Gaza residents will be celebrating it.

Forty-four percent (44%) say Israel should have taken military action against the Palestinians, but 41% say it should have tried to find a diplomatic solution to the problems there, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. Fifteen percent (15%) are undecided.

Fifty-five percent (55%) of adults, however, believe the Palestinians are to blame for the current situation in Gaza, while 13% point the finger at the Israelis. Nearly one-third (32%) aren’t sure.

TAGHREED EL-KHODARY

Know the name? I didn't. Never paid any attention.

It's the name on the NY Times byline from Gaza. A New York Times "Journalist"

I turned on CNN yesterday and saw and heard the last few minutes of a phone interview with a woman who sounded like a Hamas propagandist. I thought I was mistaken when the CNN anchor referred to her as a NY Times correspondent.

Today, again, I saw her being interviewed by CNN.

The Hamas line, word by word.

This guy Nizar Rayyan wanted to be a martyr and that why he stayed at home. He was not afraid. She repeated how committed he was to being a martyr. His actions implied to be heroic.

Then she lamented that kids were killed in the attack.

CNN didn't bother to ask why if this guy knew he was on Israel's hit list AND WANTED TO BE A MARTYR, did he surround himself with his kids.

This is who the Times has reporting from Gaza, a hard core Arab propagandist.

It's remarkable.

If you needed more proof about The Times "objectivity" in news reporting.

Wonder about the title of her byline today?

In Dense Gaza, Civilians Suffer

Sometime I think I know all there is to know about press and media bias. And yet they always outdo themselves.

Yeah, but ya know I'm inclined to believe that those following the news out of Gaza closely are probably leaning to Israel in the first place.
For the rest, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't know that Rockets and Mortars have been falling on Israeli cities, towns and villages (and thankfully many unoccupied, vacant tracts of land) in the first place.

Still, as I said in my#172, it was a stupid fucking poll anyway.

224 theheat  Thu, Jan 1, 2009 10:31:14am

CNN has already spun this as an air strike on a refugee camp. Never mind the classification of refugee camp comes from the Palestinians.

An Israeli missile Thursday struck the home of Nizar Rayan, a top Hamas military commander in northern Gaza, killing him and nine others in a refugee camp, Hamas and Palestinian medical sources said.

And, to add to the drama, someone is out there with a bucket and tablespoons, measuring the blood loss, to make it even more sensationalistic.

Video showed crowds of men outside the remains of Rayan's home, shouting as they climbed mounds of debris, pulling bodies from the rubble and searching for other victims. Nearby buildings were heavily damaged, and rubble -- some streaked with blood -- clogged the streets

So, now there's a cleanup on aisle 5, and the world is supposed to weep a bunch of locals have to mop up terrorist blood? This is one pity party I'm not going to be sucked into.

225 reine.de.tout  Thu, Jan 1, 2009 10:31:42am

This report says that all 4 of his wives were killed, along with 2 of his children.

I guess perhaps it has been difficult to determine whether some of the younger girls were his wives or his children?

Nizar Rayan died with his four wives and two of his children, aged seven and ten, in an Israeli air strike in Gaza.

I don't get the International Monitors part? What good are they gonna do but be partial and get in the way? What the fuck is a "Monitor" suppose to do? Verify a missile was shot off? I mean when it lands in a kindergarten in Asdod, I think we'll know!

Israel is under the mistaken impression that evidence and proof will convince the World that they have right and justice on their side.

It will never happen. No matter the proof. No matter the evidence. No matter the "neutral monitors" as witness.

Yes, the 'misinformation', about which the various Israeli bloggers and newsoutlets spoke, which both the top politicians and especialy the IDF used in regard to what was going to happen on 12/28.
This is as clear an example of taqiyya as any muslim could wish for.

Further - look at the preparations, which seem to ahve been going on for months, again according to ynet, JPost and the bloggers: a brilliant piece of understanding hudna, and using it in the same way as Hamas did.

Gramsci. Apparently, we're already living in Gramsci's world and just don't know it yet. Gramsci was a Marxist who believed the masses would never buy into Marxism as long as they still believed in any traditional or religious values.

The new battleground, reasoned Gramsci, must become the culture, starting with the traditional family and completely engulfing churches, schools, media, entertainment, civic organizations, literature, science, and history.

These are the same people that occupied the Church of the Nativity and used the Bible as toilet paper. I am pretty sure that Santa Claus is not a welcome presence in their homes.

Hey Ben - from your link

Forty-four percent (44%) say Israel should have taken military action against the Palestinians, but 41% say it should have tried to find a diplomatic solution to the problems there, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. Fifteen percent (15%) are undecided.

Fifty-five percent (55%) of adults, however, believe the Palestinians are to blame for the current situation in Gaza, while 13% point the finger at the Israelis. Nearly one-third (32%) aren’t sure.

So what is that 44% comprised of - children?!

Mandy brought up Jeff Dunham earlier and I remember seeing him in Hawaii around '90. A bunch of us went to this nightclub because it was free and the drinks were only 12 bucks..anyhoo...true story.. Jeff is funnier than hell but he only had that one puppet..I don't recall his name..that green one..
So it was a slow night and Jeff starts trash talking my friend next to me just being funny and a smart alec..And my friend gets all upset and starts yelling back at him and the tension rose in the room an he stood up.. ( about 7 foot)
And the puppet turned to jeff and said ' You do realize his d*ck is bigger than you.. right?'
The place just fell down laughing.

Happy New Year. That brings up the question of how long until the money I earn is mine and not the governments. Last I knew it was into May or June or something.

Well, technically, I think it is all the gubernets. "Give unto Ceasar" and all that.

It's the "concept" of the resources that the money represents that is yours.

I think.

Welcome To Hell

Nizar Rayyan dies and goes to hell. Satan greets him, shows him three doors, and says, "You must spend the rest of eternity in one of the rooms behind these doors. Look in each one and decide which one you want."

Nizar Rayyan opens the first door, and sees a bunch of people standing on their heads on a wooden floor, looking very uncomfortable. He opens the second door, and sees a bunch of people standing on their heads on a concrete floor, looking even more uncomfortable. Finally, he opens the third door, and sees a bunch of people standing around chatting and drinking coffee, up to their knees in shit.

"Hmmm," he says, "that looks bad, but it's better than the other two. I'll take the third door." Satan smiles and shows him in.

Ten minutes later Satan walks back into the room and says, "Alright, coffee break's over, everyone back on your heads!"

re: #50 Blackacre

Here's what I don't get. This guy and his extended family lived in an eight story building. The Israelis abandoned Gaza years ago and Gaza has been the subject of self-rule (for better or worse -- and we know which). Yet, the article refers to all of this as a "Gaza refugee camp." Refugee -- from what? Camp -- where are the pup tents? Why the insistence on this phrase?

Jumping in here a little late, but here's what I wrote yesterday about the 60-year persistence of the "refugee camp" lie:

The "refugee camps" are still called that simply and solely because of UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East). As its name suggests (though not its acronym), UNRWA's only raison d'etre is to preserve the refugee status of those who otherwise could well have integrated long since into the societies in which they find themselves. This is particularly absurd when one looks at the "camps" in the West Bank and Gaza. These are Palestinians living in and surrounded by territory that is supposed to be part of a future Palestinian state. Why are they deemed "refugees"? The millions of ethnic Germans who were expelled after WWII from the East were quickly absorbed into society by the remaining German state (which lost about a third of its territory as a result of the two world wars). Their irredendist cries of "Schlesien bleibt unser!" (Silesia remains ours!) were loud at first, but except in the form of social clubs, they have no voice in German society anymore. And like the ethnic Germans, the vast majority of the Palestinian "refugees" were the victims of the lost war of aggression started by the Arab states immediately after the original partition of Palestine. In other words, their circumstances are not Israel's fault, but that of their so-called leaders.

So why are Palestinians still living in "refugee camps" 60 years after the fact? The answer is that they, with the essential and unwavering aid of UNRWA, are kept in that status as an open sore with which to accuse Israel. More than that, their existence is among the reasons that so many Palestinians will not accept the Jewish State's very existence. For, if there are "refugees", the implication is that they might someday return to the places they used to inhabit. Obviously that's never going to happen, so the resentment against Israel is artificially increased every day the "camps" persist.

There is no other group of "refugees" in the world whose children and grandchildren (in fact, all descendants through the male line) are deemed to also be "refugees" long after they were born in whatever place their parents came to. UNRWA maintains this fiction for transparently false reasons and harmful ends.

Here, by the way, is what UNRWA says about the Israeli operations in Gaza:

The Commissioner-General of UNRWA, Karen AbuZayd, expressed her horror to [sic] the extensive destruction visited upon Gaza Strip today and her deep sadness to [sic] the terrible loss in human life. UNRWA, the United Nation’s Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, strongly urges the Israeli Government to heed calls for ceasing its bombardment on Gaza. Israel is a signatory to international conventions that protect non-combatants in times of conflict. These conventions are worthless if they are not upheld.

UNRWA has turned an entire people, able-bodied as well as those who truly need aid, into a multi-generational population of welfare dependents. Its existence is one of the greatest failures of the UN. It should be abolished.

But it'll just go on and on, and no end in sight.

Meh.

P.S. Someone else pointed out that in countries outside the Palestinian territories, Palestinian "refugees" and their descendants are prohibited by law from receiving the citizenship of those countries. Another way the problem is perpetuated.

Yes. It's the one thing I had against John Wayne (simply fantastic as he was). For instance, in The Sea Chase he acted out the role of an old-line German Imperial Navy Captain with his standard "Old West" accent. He did a fine job in that film, but something didn't quite fit.

Every moment is waiting they may soon regret.

Ralph Peters on the front Page at the NY Post is reporting that Israel is hesitating for fear of Obama.

As for our president-elect, his all-too-coy insistence that "we have only one president at a time" has been selective from the start. Glad to pontificate on stimulus packages and union benefits, Obama has used the one-president mantra to avoid taking stands on difficult issues that bedevil or bewilder him.

Our president-elect needed to make a clear, prompt statement in support of Israel. He didn't. If I were an Israeli leader, I'd be worried, too.

515 Ayatollah Ghilmeini  Thu, Jan 1, 2009 11:45:56am

Rockets of Hitler

The Katyusha rocket comes in many forms and shapes but the ones fired by Hamas and Hezbollah are unique in the world- they are the first military munitions to be mass manufactured in furtherance of committing a war crime. It is a war crime to fire weapons at civilians and civilian areas with the express intention of hitting civilians. But the rockets of Hezbollah and Hamas go one leap past even that, to a level of moral excrableness that is hard to match; the rockets have been re-engineered and mass produced with ball bearing warheads instead of the standard military high explosive round. Instead of being an inaccurate outmoded and relatively ineffective artillery round, the new Katyushas of Hamas and Hezbollah, now called GRADS and Kassams, are designed ONLY to inflict civilian casualties and terrorize civilian populations.

You are what you shoot at. You are what you shoot. Israel does everything she can to avoids civilian deaths and Hamas bends over backwards to cause them.

Knowing this, you can now hate them a little more. This is why there is no moral equivalence with Hamas because Hamas exists in the realm of the deepest basement of immoral war criminals. They adore Hitler; use Nazi propaganda and they openly express the intent to commit genocide against the survivors of Hitler's crimes. Those who support Hamas in anyway are complicit in their crimes. Leftists who express "solidarity with Hamas and the people of Gaza" are guilty of the same moral gymnastics that their forebears did from 1939-1941 when they supported Hitler because their morality was founded on a willfully blind political correctness to make common cause with an avowed enemy with whom war is inevitable. You cannot believe in feminism, multiculturalism and secular humanism and be at peace with the Islamic radical movement, whose chauvinism, bigotry, intolerance and misogyny are 100% at odds with everything the left claims they believe.

In the end we are all at war with radical Islam, the only question is when and under what circumstances the left finally wakes up and realizes it. By the time ten western cities are vaporized by nuclear missiles, it will be too late.

re: #505 buzzsawmonkey

Haven't seen it; just the trailers. But with all the hype about how von Stauffenberg and his cronies "saw evil and tried to do something about it," the "evil" they saw was that they were beginning to lose.

Von Stauffenberg and his cronies had no trouble swearing personal allegiance to Hitler and plunging Europe into war. They didn't have a problem with war materiel being sidetracked to feed the Nazi murder machine (essential rolling stock needed to move supplies to the Russian Front was diverted to ship Jews to the gas chambers). They made their move--they "woke up to evil" in 1944, after the Allies had successfully landed in Normandy and Italy had surrendered.

In other words, they decided to take out Hitler in order to save their own asses, not because they disagreed with him in any other way. And they botched the job, at that.

Heroes? Not so very much.

Exactly. They were hoping for a negotiated armistice with the US and Britain to prevent a Soviet invasion and occupation (knowing full well Stalin would treat them at least as cruelly as they treated the Russians).

On some of the breastfeeding message boards, they are dominated by those purist mommies whose millionaire husbands let them stay home and keep their homes in a good neighborhood---or one lady who was just denouncing a woman who had bottle-fed her adopted baby? Her husband was not a bajillionaire, but he was in the military, they lived on base, and the kids went to DOD schools. Ever since my oldest was 4 months old, I either worked, or we would have to live in the 'hood and send the kids to schools that aren't taught in English.

They will always be called refuge camps. They could all have million dollar homes with two car garages and they will still be called refugee camps by enemies.

Their true aims - as are those of their allies and the media who continue to refer to them as refuge camps- is in the description.

They will be considered refuges- in refuge camps- until they are no longer refuges which will occur only when they can make claim to the ruins of Israel.

They will still be called refuge camps even if they are located in a new born Palestinian State. Because the ultimate aim to destroy Israel will never die no matter what Israel concedes.

I like Tom Cruise as an actor, but not for this role. I don't like movies about "good Nazis" anyway, the less evil is not all that good.

Yes. It's the one thing I had against John Wayne (simply fantastic as he was). For instance, in The Sea Chase he acted out the role of an old-line German Imperial Navy Captain with his standard "Old West" accent. He did a fine job in that film, but something didn't quite fit.

Wasn't that the same thing he did when he played Genghis Khan?

Islam no longer has to conquer by force. You do not have to but see Europe- Britain in particular- to know that Islam will conquer from within.

The danger is that without those visual and pain of cities going up in nuclear smoke, when the non-Islamic citizens in the West wake up, it may be too late.

re: #537 buzzsawmonkey

"The Shootist" has a couple of clanky moments--the price of filmmaking in the '70s--but it is, overall, an elegant and moving film.

It is, in a way, echoed at the end of Eastwood's "Unforgiven." "The Shootist" is about a man trying to die with dignity, knowing that he can rely only on himself as the vultures begin to circle--and to be buried with dignity, knowing that he can only control this and stave off the sensationalists and souvenir hunters to a limited extent. Eastwood's demands to the townspeople to treat the body of his dead friend Morgan Freeman right--one man trying to do face down a town of rabble--has a similar feeling.

the Eastwood flick is probably the better movie technically...I'd say conveying the sentiment about even...not an edge but I got kick out of the turn of the century sets and props and the age of Wayne...the Unforgiven seemed darker...

7! oh my. My one was so awful I never did it again. They say you forget the pain --yah right!

Actually, I had a horrible pregnancy --so it just wasn't the delivery that put me off.

I have one friend that had 4 children and no stitches, no problems and she is about 5' 0' and weights about 98 lbs. Some women were made to have babies.

I was not. Although, I wish I could rent-a-baby once a week or so.

I nursed them all for the simple fact that I could not always get Kosher formula where we were living. . .but I see now many are now Kosher. . .sheesh!

Yeah, I had pretty easy deliveries (don't tell the kids, it will cut into my Mother's Day loot stipend :)

Only with the death of many, many clerics, will peace be achieved. Even though their holy book called koran will still contain the same teachings, the clerics that will take the place of those that should be killed by the civilized world, will have a different prespective on life.

Americans and Europeans need to learn about the koran to better understand this religion of satan.

Typical welfare society logic. The more kids you have the more social welfare you receive. Since they were the only one home in the eight story apartment building mean that they owned the whole thing.

I just learned today that rice and beans/black-eyed peas (no ham) is a traditional Sephardic dish at Rosh HaShanah, the Jewish New Year, in addition to being a traditional Southern dish for the secular New Year.

Interesting.

Southern tradition: hog jowl and black-eyed peas. An absolute must for good luck during the year!

Can add collards or turnip greens, but not necessary for luck quotient.

Heh.

I remember Sean Connery complaining at the self serving Oscar awards about the character played by Mel Gibson in Braveheart of his not being a Scotsman where Connery was was and felt that he could have portrayed the character more in line with accuracy in its presentation as a Scot speaking person.
Excuse me Tom Cruise with that Hillary type nasal presentation of his and having no vocal range or the ability to speak with some form of a German accent did no justice to the role. In my view, he made a mockery out of a true German hero. After 30 minutes of his "acting" performance I got up and walked out out the theater. Hollywood wonders why ticket box office sales are down?

I liked the comment too, and I have always wondered how the libs could even defend a mindset that if it had its way, would murder each and every liberal.

The only thing I can come up with is that liberals have a greater hate for the west (America, western society, etc) than they do for true despotic types. If you consider that to a liberal, there IS no greater evil in the world than an American with "traditional" values, it makes sense that they would find sympathy with any other philosophy that comes to the same conclusions that liberals come to. You know that the enemy of my enemy is my friend. We used this justification on Saddam, and we are right to do so. The libs would commit treason, excuse homicide, genocide and any other evil act if it furthers their cause. They always have.

I had a friend who trained as a midwife.

Her favorite moments involved the ladies who believed that all those classes were sufficient, and they'd get through it just fine. Ha!

My friend had three kids before the training. She knew all about it, and was very nice when the ladies broke down and asked for drugs. Heavy drugs. Oh, and give my husband a vasectomy, while you're at it!

On the other hand, I watched a friend go through a thirty-six hour labor, not only without pain meds but WITH pitocin. It was kind of amazing. She did a lot of deep breathing, and just rode the whole thing out.

Then she had a second child. ;)

In a way all of HAMAS leaders want to die. These clowns expose themselves deliberately so that the Israelis do kill them. I think it is a perverse death wish. Ayash, Yassin, Rantisi and now this moron basically have allowed the Israelis to pinpoint their respective whereabouts and take them out. Hopefully all future HAMAS will follow their example and telegraph their locations to the IDF. The only question is the HAMAS idiot who lives in hiding in Syria. I guess life is really good in Damascus.

574 Cutty Sark  Thu, Jan 1, 2009 4:40:15pm

Hamas dares Isreal to kill them ...that is as they fire rockets from amidst civilians . They accomplish two things , martyrdom [72virgins & assorted young boys ] and good propaganda material as they guarantee collateral casualties . And the restof the world sucks it up .
This latest Hamas leader to get wacked , only a few days ago stated that " it will be either victory over Israel or martyrdom " .....uh ......Israel has made it the latter .

happy martyrdom ......

Still a coward in the end, hiding behind women and children. Couldn't happen to a more deserving POS. All Hamas "freedom fighters" are cowards, less than men, women or children... hell, less than dogs... they are all pigs and deserve every bit of "special treatment" the Israelis can give them.

I fully believe that "Don't ask, don't tell" should be attached to any treatment a Hamas TERRORIST gets at the hands of the Israelis if caught alive. I am sure they are all wishing for death not just to be martyrs, but for this very reason.
