France 2 Apologizes for Using Phony Gaza Attack Video

Media • Views: 5,383

France’s public TV station France 2 (perpetrator of the Mohammed Al-Dura hoax) was taken in by that footage from an accidental explosion of a truck full of rockets at a Hamas rally, and yesterday they retracted their report and apologized: French TV apologises over footage mix-up.

PARIS: France’s public broadcaster was forced to apologise to viewers yesterday after it mistakenly used amateur footage shot in 2005 to illustrate a report on the current Gaza conflict.

France 2 television on Monday broadcast part of an amateur video presented in a voiceover commentary as showing the fallout from an Israeli air strike on a civilian area in Gaza on January 1.

Dating from September 2005, the video, which has been widely circulated on the Internet, actually shows civilians wounded in the accidental explosion of a pick-up truck loaded with Hamas rockets at a rally in Jabaliya refugee camp.

Alerted by the French website LePost.fr, France 2 admitted its mistake yesterday and made a formal apology to viewers in its midday news broadcast.

“It is an error on our behalf. There was an internal malfunction in the checking of information,” a France 2 executive told AFP.

The France 2 article (in French) is here: Vidéo intox de Gaza sur France 2: ‘Ça a gueulé dans la rédaction’.

All over the world, the mainstream media is suffering from these kinds of “internal malfunctions in the checking of information.”

“It is an error on our behalf. There was an internal malfunction in the checking of information,” a France 2 executive told AFP.

Dude, if you apologize using the passive voice, it is not an apology.

"Dinner was burnt. It was an error on the part of the recipe implementer."

"The car has been crashed. There was an internal malfunction of the screw-up preventer."

"Your birthday has been forgotten. Please, please, please, do not throw that at me..."

Wait, how did that last one get in there? There has been a malfunction of the self-editor. ;)

Here's a helpful clue to the French media: If the source of your information is the same source that has been proven to be lying every single time their telling of matters has been 180 degrees off from the Israeli account of matters, you might want to triple check them.

re: #48 TheMatrix31

Not doubting you, but is there a link for those two? I'd love to have those for reference in arguments.

Here is one

Contrary to the repeated televised charges of Saeb Erakat and other Palestinian spokesmen, "hundreds" of Palestinians were not killed. As of May 1, there were 54 bodies found in Jenin -- not 500 -- according to Israeli military sources. Palestinian officials, on the ground, now verify the Israeli numbers: Mousa Kadoura, director of Yasser Arafat's Fatah organization for the northern West Bank, claims 56 Palestinians died in Jenin (Washington Times, May 1, 2002).

and another

PRECISELY A MONTH AGO, on April 8, the Palestinian news agency Wafa was reporting that Israel had committed the "massacre of the 21st century" in the Palestinian refugee camp in Jenin. "Medical sources" informed Wafa of "hundreds of martyrs." This was a lie, concocted not only for local consumption--to keep the Palestinian people whipped up in a patriotic, Israel-hating frenzy--but mostly for export to the West.

and some pictures showing the tiny area flattened.

I'll follow with some of the picnicking family.

When one has an antisemitic agenda, facts don't matter.

It's only continuing an old tradition.

The Italian Fascists protected Jews -- actually had prominent Jewish members -- from the beginning until 1943, when Italy was occupied by the Nazis. Francisco Franco, also a fascist, refused to send any Jews to Germany at all, and rescinded the Edict of Expulsion that dated from 1492.

Vichy France sent Jews to the concentration camps by the trainload.

Turkey and France are prepared to send monitors to the Gaza Strip as part of a cease-fire agreement, Reuters reported early Wednesday.

Both French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner and Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan were quoted as saying that their countries would be willing to contribute observation staff to an international force if requested.

Gee now that inspires confidence? And notice no "Soldiers" just "Monitors". What is this kindergarten?

so how do you say 'what a joke' in French...the French are obviously a staunch adversary to Israel...all this talk about cease fires and monitors and the like is useless...Hamas must be totally destroyed as a functioning entity...there will be nothing to monitor in my world...Israel needs to press on and simply ignore all that bs....

they will get you killed in a heartbeat amigo if you get in their way...

Look at how many words you need to say something in French v. how many you need to say it in English. Amazing.

Read about our language and find out how truly amazing it is. One of the best and most entertaining courses I took in college was History of the English Language.

Except drop rifles.

Some language trivia:

When the Normans invaded England in 1066, they became the ruling class and French the language of the court. The words for food we use today derive from French: beef, poultry, pork, mutton. However, the conquered still kept the animals, so our animal words are from Anglo-Saxon: cattle, chickens, pig, sheep.

That's a;so why out "four-letter words" became considered vulgar.

Heh.

Dear protestors, Arab Israelis, and citizens of the world:

We are in favor of the democratic right of every person to rally in favor whatever he or she feel like, even if we are talking about Israeli citizens demonstrating against their country at a time of war.

After all, we no longer have too many expectations of the Arab-Israeli leadership, headed by Knesset Member Muhammad Barakeh.

Yet nonetheless, and with all due respect, we wish to tell you something at this time: Your views do not really make a difference to us right now. At this moment, when we are fighting for the wellbeing of southern residents, the level of support we receive from you does not matter to us too much. It is irrelevant.

He doesn't pull any punches:

You may be surprised about this, yet when it comes to a choice between the option of allowing southern Israel residents to continue being hurt and the option of hitting the terrorists with full force, while realizing that innocent civilians in Gaza will be hurt too along the way, we choose to side with our own citizens. How weird indeed.

Oh, yeah, I almost forgot something else: We already withdrew from the Gaza Strip. A long time ago. Perhaps you repressed this minor detail, yet we uprooted settlements, just the way you like it. We expelled Jews from their homes, in line with our own decision, just in order to get out of Gaza.

Go read the whole thing.

re: #62 pingjockey

I do know one Russian phrase for these assholes... yob tvoyu mat.

Even though ёб твою мать (yob tvoyu mat) literally translates "I fucked YOUR mother," in practice it's not very "you-directed." It more often expresses general frustration/surprise at a situation, similar to "Fuck this shit!" or "Jesus H. Christ" or "goddamnit!", rather than expressing aggression and hostility towards another person.

A better Russian expression in this case would be иди на хуй (idi na xuy, pronounced "ee-DEE NA hoo-ey"), which literally means "go to the cock/dick/prick/dong," but conveying pretty much the same idea as "fuck off and die." In other words, it shows hostility and contempt for the person addressed, in a way that yob tvoyu mat generally doesn't.
