CNN Says the Video is Genuine

Middle East | Fri, Jan 9, 2009 at 5:04:03 pm PST

CNN insists that the Gaza video is genuine, and they’ve reposted it. This is their only response to the criticism that the “CPR” shown in the video is an obvious pantomime:

Responding to accusations that the resuscitation efforts of Mashharawi’s brother appeared inauthentic, Martin said that, based on his years of reporting from Gaza, doctors often go through such efforts even with little hope that a patient can be saved.

If they really had “little hope” the patient could be saved, they’d be going all out with CPR, which means very vigorous chest compression (it’s not unusual to break ribs if it’s done right), and ventilation to oxygenate the blood—not delicately touching the boy’s abdomen with the tips of their fingers as we see in the video clips.

UPDATE at 1/9/09 5:50:34 pm:

For reference, here are three versions of the report we’re looking at.

First, an edited, shortened version of the full report:

Youtube Video

Second, the version of the report posted by the UK’s Channel 4.

Third, the full report posted at CNN’s website.

FLV Movie

UPDATE at 1/9/09 6:34:14 pm:

CNN now responds to the charge that Mashharawi worked for a company that operates Hamas websites:

Martin said accusations that Mashharawi owns a company that hosts Hamas Web sites were falsely based on Mashharawi having worked at a company that created the PS suffix to allow anyone of any political persuasion to create Palestinian Web sites.

According to Internet Haganah’s database of terror website hosts, in 2004 nepras.net, which lists Mashharawi as general manager, was the operator of the main Hamas website and the website of Hamas’ radio station Voice of Al Aqsa.

UPDATE at 1/9/09 6:51:37 pm:

This is the website of World News & Features, cited by CNN as a reliable source for news from Gaza. Please excuse me while I laugh.

In that case, why are they turning other patients/wounded away from hospitals? Other reports indicate they have run out of bed space and supplies.

"FURTHER UPDATE: A reader writes: "As an introduction, I am an attack helicopter pilot with somewhere north of 400 combat missions in geographic areas very similar to Gaza. Your thoughts are correct. Events as described didn’t happen as alleged. The link [Link: www.fas.org...] has significant info regarding one of the smaller drone armed weapons, the AGM-114 Hellfire. I am very familiar with this weapon as this is the same missile with a different type of warhead that US Attack helicopters are armed with. Bottom line, 100lb missile moving at about 400 M/s is going to cause structural damage to the building even if it was one of the inert warhead types." See also this contribution to the comments. 114 Age Of Freedom  Fri, Jan 9, 2009 5:26:06pm

This video is a mere drop of palestinian propaganda the left is injecting daily into the screens of hundreds of millions around the globe.

None of these "journalists" ever cares to ask the obvious:
1) why the palis never invested a dime of all the endless of billions of $ into protecting their citizens, in education, modernity, peace and life.
2) why did the palis instead put all their maximum jihad effort into smuggling weapons and bombs, building an army of terrorist cowards, rigging the entire strip into a giant booby trap and rockets launching pad and inciting deeper for death and the destruction of Israel.
3) why aren't they learning a lesson that they can't win and won't ever win with terror and religious supremacy since before the reestablishment of modern Israel?
4) when will the arabs and muslims ever learn?

Then, that would be fair and balanced news.
So yes, the media is infinitely times 2 fucked up beyond repair.

My response to one of the commenters:
These people are notorious for faking just about everything. It is always Israels fault with people like you. You have no concept of what is going on over there. Hamas launches 10 or more rockets a day into Israel and when Israel finally gets tired of having the rockets and then putting a stop to it it is Israel's fault for starting the war. Watch the videos of the Palis dressing their kids up in suicide vests or teaching them that hate is okay. Watch the Palis launch rockets and mortars from schoolyards, hospital grounds and residential areas. So take you stupid, insane propaganda and take a long walk off of a short pier.
Oh and by the way, I come from a medical family and I am an emergency responder and that is not CPR that they are performing. It is a fake and a sham.
Why use a stand in to show what is going on? Where are the photos of his real children? And how do we know that this is his kid? Just because he says so? I personally believe that the cameramen kids are probably okay and living somewhere safe. IMHO

Charles (#164),

Why are they covered up with a blanket in a hospital?

Is "it's fake" too obvious an answer?

177 zombie  Fri, Jan 9, 2009 5:37:22pm

OK, I just watched the video for the first time.

What exactly is the fat "doctor" doing to the chest/stomach of the the boy? Giving him a light massage? Tickling him? (No, tickling is usually even firmer than that.) Playing patty-cake?

Some possibilties:

1. The boy had actually died earlier, but they wanted to recreate the scene for the cameras. Bad acting.
or 2. Doctors in Palestine are simply incompetent to a degree which can't really grasp. Because if that guy's a doctor, and he's actually trying to give CPR, he has NO idea what he's doing.
or 3. The fat guy is not a doctor at all, but an impromptu actor in a doctor's smock, and the scene is staged.

Next, I'd like to draw your attention to how the Western-looking (Norwegian?) doctor points, twice, at the video display, indicating that the boy is the process of dying. Say what?!? If that wasn't done for the benefit of the cameras, I'm a monkey's aunt or uncle. What real doctor in a real code-red situation would point to the screen and shrug and say, "Look, the guy is dying right in front of our eyes. Gee, that's sad." If that's real, that doctor is also an incompetent buffoon.

And lastly, the detail that the boy was shot by "an unmanned Israeil drone" is repeated as verified fact in the article, but in the video we learn that the family is the only source of this information. If they weren't on the roof, then how do they know? Again, seems like a fabricated fact concocted to make the Israelis seem sinister.

I don't know what happened off-camera. Yes, it could be that the guy's brother got injured somehow, by Israelis or otherwise, and then died. But if that happened it seemed like what we're seeing in part of the video is a re-creation of the incident, not the incident itself.

Alternately, the story is a tangled web of lies and half-truths and suppositions.

re: #164 Charles

Charles, as I said yesterday, there is no wound on the head when we see it as he is being carried home, and no limbs appear missing. This was a rocket attack, so shrapnel or penetrating injuries--where are they? If his chest or abdomen was crushed, the code should include chest tubes. There would be blood everywhere. The parents would be screaming. The doctors would be bent over the patient, shouting orders and calling for drugs and IVs as round after round of resuscitation continues.

All joking aside, Israel is losing the propaganda war.

There seems to be a mainstream hatred towards Israel and Jews.

Media hatred, which I believe is being driven by postmodernism. That's a bit abstract, but we get a daily barrage of anti-Western propaganda, and it does take its toll.

I repeat again. This is nothing new at all. This is exactly the same blood libel--Jews murdering non Jewish children--that has been thrown at Jews for over a thousand years, and is still current in Egyptian and Saudi education.

Well perhaps if Israel faked a few hundred dead and missing limbs from the rocket attacks maybe, just maybe, the media would take notice.

Hamas' propaganda is based on lies, lies and more lies.

Not to mention that the entire scene looks staged - especially the way Gilbert was pointing to the screen after he supposedly died...looks like bullshit acting to me.

To me as well.

Seriously, try to imagine an actual doctor in an actual emergency pointing at the screen at saying, "Look He's flatlining!" Maybe in a grade-Z hospital drama TV show, but not in real life.

re: #177 zombie

Well...........other than that....... I think it's pretty accurate. Run it!

There is this,

Martin said accusations that Mashharawi owns a company that hosts Hamas Web sites were falsely based on Mashharawi having worked at a company that created the PS suffix to allow anyone of any political persuasion to create Palestinian Web sites.

I would expect, however, a lot more bleeding from a severe head wound, and goodness knows that shrapnel wounds all over the body would seem to have bled more, and that a missing foot should bleed, too.

We face an enemy like no other enemy in history. They excel in inhuman brutality, and the fucking Media still wants to piss and moan about panties on their head at Abu Grabass.

It drives me fucking nuts. Granted, it was a short drive, but still...

Actually, this go-round, we are doing VERY WELL in the PR wars. Jew-haters are always going to hate Jews, whether they are Hamas or the white guy down the street. That will NOT change. But Israel has gotten a great deal of credit for not striking back at Hamas, for giving up Gaza. The world saw what happened there, and I hear none of the rancor that I heard during Lebanon war.

Yeah, and I'm hard pressed to wonder why they are losing the propaganda wars. They are fighting an enemy that treats a murderer who smashed a child's head with a rifle butt as a motherfuckin' hero. And the fucking Press just goes along twiddling their thumbs chanting "Diversity!"

We face an enemy like no other enemy in history. They excel in inhuman brutality, and the fucking Media still wants to piss and moan about panties on their head at Abu Grabass.

It drives me fucking nuts. Granted, it was a short drive, but still...

This is what is so weird. The entire MSM goes out of its way to minimize the problem of Islamic terrorists and murderers. Do they honestly think that if they "wish" hard enough, the problem will go away?

Today's Chicago Tribune, for example, had an article on the "plight" of the poor Islamic women in the U.S. who wear hijabs. "Everyone" is looking at them. One of the women was the daughter of Sami Amir(?) the recently convicted terrorist in Florida. I am supposed to feel sorry for this woman?

The Tribune is nuts, and soon they won't have any readers at all, except for those who support terrorists. Is that a good business strategy?

Charles, thanks for reposting the CNN video. It's obviously a much better version than the one that was posted on YouTube, and this time I managed to screen-grab a high-quality version, to go along with the one I got from Channel 4's version.

This was the first time I got good enough audio quality to notice the snippet of audio in which Dr. Gilbert and the infamous chest tickler speak with one another, in English. The tickler asks, with an Arabic accent, "he died?" Gilbert nods, and says, "yeah." Somebody off-camera says, also with an Arabic accent, "look at the [something -- maybe 'line']." Gilbert turns to the monitor screen behind him and points to one of the tracings on it. The tickler says "flatline." And then Gilbert says "extreme bradycardia."

Of some note, once upon a time, Lt. for life John F. Kerry filmed himself in fake combat in a war zone.

This same CNN bunch has sworn it was true, that Lt. Kerry was not a liar, a fake and a fraud now for 40 years. In fact every thing about John F. Kerry is a lie, a fake and fraud. Its a heavy load of lies they now attempt to keep afloat.

If they do not stay with all the lies, every last one of them, the whole house of liar cards falls down on these ghoul frauds heads.

re: #243 EE

Are they fools or are they liars, at CNN, when they mislead the public and cannot see the obvious?

"Note also that CNN has no response to the fact that Ashraf Mashharawi owns a business that operates websites for Hamas."

If they are just hiding this fact, and don't want any public attention to it, and won't even comment on it for fear of attracting attention to it, then they have guilty knowledge and guilty actions. This shows that they are LIARS. They may or may not be fools also; but this coverup shows that they are LIARS.

I don't think it makes any difference.
35 years ago, it was proven that Kerry's buddy (VVAW co-leader) wasn't who he claimed to be (combat veteran).
4 years ago, SBVFT brought that up, along with the "Christmas in Cambodia" farce that was seared, seared into Kerry's mind, as he plainly stated on the Senate floor. SBVFT was basically "discredited" if you recall, but I don't personally remember what discredited us.

The voters of the nation basically let that slide and the voters of Massachusets re-elected him, and the "other senator" has Chappaquiddick (sp?) fame.

The above is but a small example of what the press does.
Why should CNN even get nervous? The Rathergate incident has been, as far as I know, the only thing that even came close to sticking. "Fake but true" is an insult to us, but genuinely funny, and in the minds of 52% of voters, just true.
This incident is not affecting a presidential election, and I suspect CNN is not the least bit worried.

/now if you don't mind, let's get on to global warming.
// rant off. thank you for your attention.

They all state the same basic "story", but for a couple things:
a) the continuity and timing of events is not congruent. In the first the child "may already be dead" the others, he is already dead and his family is saying goodbye. I note how all the participants block a clear view of the "body".
b) the initial report says the child died from gunfire, then all of sudden rockets are involved.
c) I'm no doctor but that fat dude playing one was doing pretty rapid compressions to my eye, from what I remember from my CPR training, and as others have pointed out, what's the point in moving around de-oxygenated blood. Where is the Artificial Respiration?

Responding to accusations that the resuscitation efforts of Mashharawi’s brother appeared inauthentic, Martin said that, based on his years of reporting from Gaza, doctors often go through such efforts even with little hope that a patient can be saved.

This looks like a disingenuous response. It insinuates that the objection being made is that efforts to rescuscitate such a patient through cpr would not be made. But that is not the objection at all. The objection is that the cpr procedures in the video appear fake. This, the real objection, was not answered at all in CNN's response. Nice dodge.

I only got a chance to view the CCN video footage, but they kept showing the roof off like it was a huge demolition scene. Me? I just thought it looked like some folks were shooting bullets into the air and some landed there. I know nothing about nothing about explosives, but I've scene bomb explosion scenes and read through Zombie's narrative on the "bombed" ambulance. That has taught me enough about staging scenes to make me very wary of this video.

Finding out that different venues are giving the facts differently might not be surprising the first day this came out, but this is day two. Most organizations would have gotten the stories straightened out by now. That rankles, but it's not conclusive.

Hearing that medical professionals are calling out the doctors as doing fake CPR is proof. End of story.

The battalion was so short of NCOs, the instructors "arranged" to fake his way through RIP, get him 5 jumps, and post him to battalion with a fresh pair of wings and a tab.

20mm might be too small. I've got dewat (not live) 20mm round sitting on my desk, the warhead fits comfortably in the palm of my hand, with room to spare.

All of the HAMAS AA guns I've seen so far are Russian 23mm or Russian 57mm.

57mm is too big, 20-23mm probably too small. Although it could have been more then one 23mm round.

That's part of why I think it was a 40mm round from a HAMAS M-203.

- inflict shrapnel wounds
yet
- leave debris around the crater, and not in a radial pattern
- crack the large concrete block as shown, yet cause some of the debris to fall across and slightly toward the apparent blast path

and still leave the furniture undisturbed?

Bad scriptwriters and an inept special-effects crew?

Also, why is the family of the “victim” not loudly wailing, as shown in many previous CNN video clips, to be customary and typical, in that culture?

My mom, the poor woman, watches a fair amount of PBS programming and sometimes buys the garbage, crap, unmitigated bullshit, and outright lies that they sell as "news". After their latest piece of "Blame Israel" theater (schools, and hospitals, and mosques, oh my!), complete with video sound bites from mad doctor Mads, she had some not very nice things to say about Israel.

Fortunately, however, she is open to logic, reason, and does not dismiss, out of hand, counter-arguments the way a hard core leftist do. I informed her that Mads is a d-bag, explained exactly what makes him a d-bag, and also added Israel is simply responding to terrorist rocket attacks on their civilian population, and that it's not Israel's fault that these terrorists use schools, hospitals, and mosques as launch pads and weapons caches. Oh yeah, and also that these terrorist assholes think nothing of putting their own civilians in harms way just so they can make Israel look like the bad guys when they fight back. She (my mom) was very receptive to this counter-argument.

She's not a bad person, she just "didn't know" about these facts. I'm not sure if she's considered why the MSM outlets don't report these facts.

As a side note, I had no idea who this d-bag Mads was until I learned about him here on LGF. Thanks Charles, keep up the good work.

That's the after... I want to see Zombie get video of the Before.

In otherwords, Hamas "militant" strong arming a screaming child, giving him/her some butt strokes to the head and body then picking him/her up to carry off to the aforementioned fake hospital scene.

Let's see the MSM laugh that off.

Corsi is a conspiracy nut.
The problem is that some of his conspiracy theories have a grain of truth.
The problem with that is it's an "all or none" thing. If one screw is obviously loose, the consumer isn't going to buy the product.

SEE - "Windows Vista (Home Premium)" - The OS I am answering you on. There are obviously a couple of screws loose - AND - it still works. Yours from "MOJAVE"

Perhaps, but there would be seismic events and a USGS/NOAA alert. Also, how did they get him on the roof without collapsing the building?

Tsunami ?

Actually, Hamas kneecapped about 35 (I think) Fatah guys when this all began.
No tellin how many fell long distances.

Really? Man, I miss so much when I'm gone. Is there a link for that in the linkviewer?

there is only so many types/sizes of ordnance...it had to be something...C4 in a tin can?

What do they put in the warheads of their rockets? How much?

Ah. Gotcha. I have rarely agreed with Cognito, but it has happened a time or two. However, I believe in those cases he was not talking about the media.

Sorry to hear about where you work. That's tough. I'm lucky in that half of us at work are sane, and half are moonbats. Luckily, I only know about two serious moonbats at work, and we stay far away from politics.

Well- I lost my job. . .hence the pissed off. . .

Something that nags at my heart, is considering Hamas Propaganda. Is how many of these photographs, and video's of dead children that Hamas has claimed where killed by the IDF. Is how many of these children where in fact murdered by Hamas, I wonder just what an autopsy and forensics would really show,

my question is.... is there really the fatalities? We really have only their claims, No?

"Ok, riddle me this CNN:

What sort of explosion could:
- make the crater shown in the video
- inflict shrapnel wounds
yet
- leave debris around the crater, and not in a radial pattern
- crack the large concrete block as shown, yet cause some of the debris to fall across and slightly toward the apparent blast path

and still leave the furniture undisturbed?

Bad scriptwriters and an inept special-effects crew?"

No........Easy Explanation..........Micheal Moore falling.

How about a rocket launcher on the roof, a "work accident" and some quick cleanup?
I do not know anything about that stuff, just musing.

The only thing missing from the video is an anchorwoman reporting from a canoe while two guys walk by showing the water to be less than knee deep. That one brings back memories doesn't it?

You forgot Sean Penn..:)

She's really apolitical, and does not spend much time considering such things. I'll give her the straight dope when she's been misinformed on something, and she does become aware that she's been fed a line of bull, but I don't think she really cares enough about such matters as to really be affected by it.

I love my mom, but she's not exactly what I would call a deep thinker.

If rigor mortis sets in within 3 hours of death, and the child was killed (or mortally wounded) on the roof, the entire story from explosion, to hospital, to mourning in the apartment, ride to cemetery, interment, took less than 3 hours. There was no evident rigor.
It's not likely that these events only took three hours.

I am not a doctor but I can't imagine that if they were really trying to save someone's life --how they could be positioned around the victim in a way that a bystander --in this case a family member --could even video it.

Seems to me the last thing the medical professionals would be concerned about would be not blocking the photographers view.

Not bad. A "good" way to make hay out of Achmed's screw up with the fuse. Good theory.

Looking at the damage is it possible that what we have here is a "work accident" from assembling a weapon or explosives on the roof? Kid brother got to close?
