With Firefox 3.0.5, I get a little green bos with "WMV Video". When I click on that, the page navigates away to a WMP page, rather than the Player on my comp.

When I was watching/listening earlier through the links - the gaza camera itself sometimes gets a glitch and stops . . . so problems might not be with how the video is working, it might be that the gaza camera itself has stopped. Never lasted more than about 30 seconds or so.

Hey, I have a DSL question. I came home, and my DSL modem was blinking and I had no connectivity. Here's the thing, I'd unplugged my PC (fax) modem that's on the same landline as the DSL, and plugged in a cheap corded phone. No filter. Oops. So I unplugged the phone, cycled the DSL modem. No dice. So I powered down the PC, plugged the PC (fax) modem back in - and realized I never DID have a filter on the PC fax modem! OOPS. But now it works again!
Can a DSL line get "conditioned" and work with an unfiltered, if unused, phone modem on the same landline? Weird. Well, I'll try it again later, steal a filter from another line or something. Any knowledgeable advice welcome.

Your DSL is getting hammered by a virus on your machine. DSL is designed to pop off before the hammering threatens a network. Whether its intentional or not, its changing info in your hosts file too. Hence when you reset the DSL it updates your host file (fixing the prob). However whatever parasite you have probably is waiting for you to do banking or something. Time to check for viruses .. for your own safety.

You could open the video in a separate window, and then switch back and forth.

Just a tech note. I'm running Safari 3.2.1 on OSX 10.5.6. I tried a cmd-click on the button to open in a new window/tab. (I use Saft, which would make it go to a tab.) The video seems to be playing, but in the original tab, and strangely offset to the right, partially obscuring the ad in the right column.
I refreshed the page and tried without the cmd key, and now the video is centered. Odd.

Using two different browsers and switching back and forth is as close as it gets. Use IE or a variation of IE like Avant on the picture, something else on the text communication. Works well 90+% of the time.

First it tried to play, I got the actual video screen. But it wouldn't play. Then I reloaded and got a little box like you see when you embed a video in the comments. If I click on it, I get the screen,the little "play", "pause", etc. buttons disappear and it's still, not playing. Is there something else I can do to try and make it work?

Could be. I am an absolute light weight when it comes to discovering fakeries and potential reasons. It has to be blatant for me to notice - much like our CNN video and their version of CPR and shrapnel wounds.
My theory is that the kid was already dead and the body was cleaned at home before taking him to the hospital. The lack of bleeding just shows that the fake CPR wasn't circulating any blood.

It's good to see you haven't let this staged video issue slip away. However, there is more fake in the story than just the hospital scene. The apartment blast scene is fake too. The filmmaker repeated claims the deaths of the two boys were the result of a missile or rocket fired from an Israeli drone which deliberately targeted the children. There are a number of problems with that claim.
First, the blast damage is in no way consistant with a missile strike. The missiles fired from drones produce a penetrating blast followed by intensely hot fire. This is because they are used to destroy cars, trucks or whole buildings. Yet the apartment blast scene shows a very small impact and a bit of sharpnel. There was no fire. If a missile had hit that building, a large part of it would have been destroyed. Yet, the building is still in fine shape with a few superficial chips in the cement. Some puny missile?
Secondly, these missiles are expensive. The IDF uses them to hit high value targets. They don't waste them on 2 children.
Either the children were killed by Hamas, who is then trying to blame Israel, or even the deaths were faked. The whole video is bogus. Time to call them on the fake blast scene as well.

It's 9:45 pm EST here, and I can see mostly darkness with a fire (building, I think) burning in the middle of the screen. When turned up the sound, could hear what sounded like jets, and also something like a call to prayer. (?) (Just a guess, but the way the paleos are losing, I don't doubt they're praying 24/7 instead of just 5 times a day. Though I doubt they need to be reminded.)

I have wireless internet in my house. That doesn't happen to me on my laptop which has a built-in thingy to connect wireless. It only happens on my desktop which has a netgear doohickey that I use to connect to the wireless.

The one thing I do like is my ballet bar. Not as intense as when my dance instructor would yell at me in Russian, but still keeps me limber.

When I hear the muezzin chant "allah-hu-akhbar", my stomach turns over.

I did 3 monitors once with multiple video cards, but input/information overload won so two's my limit for screens.
I like the look of quartz, its quite pretty. I have an 1850's farm house, so I wanted the kitchen to look like furniture pieces placed in there, wood was perfect for that.

I WAS going to get this new machine with Vista on it... but the guys at the computer store told me how Win7, even in beta, runs rings around it, so I went with Win7 on this new machine instead.
same here...but, as I've said... it has been problematic... I bought this laptop in March of 2007...one of the first releases of Vista... I attribute some things to the fact that this was early in the life of Vista... (most of my problems are related to running application software...)

I had the TV on last night and Bill Moyers was on. I wasn't really
paying attention until I heard him mention Israel and then I
listened. By the time he finished I was so upset I couldn't sleep
and believe me I'm still tired from jet lag!
He very calmly and quietly quoted the Bible (2 sources) where God
told the Israelites to go in and make waste to the land and its
inhabitants. Then he proceeded to talk about the tragedy in Gaza and
the suffering of the civilians and never once mentioned Hamas and the
use of civilian areas to shoot the rockets. I could go on but it's
too upsetting.
When I was in Israel I was deeply concerned about the soldiers and
our civilians. I also feel for the civilians in Gaza who are
suffering because of the Hamas. Jews are not meant to inflict pain
and devastation - that is not what our religion teaches us. But
everyone there that we met was behind the government's decision to
clean out Hamas. I came home and I feel as if 90% of what I read and
hear is against Israel and the Jews. It's very frightening.

There is a word processing software for mac that you can get, that when she saves a document, she can save it in ms word format, so if she needs that for school, it works just fine.

I stopped watching PBS and stopped listening to NPR long ago. This is exactly the reason. These "public" networks espouse a leftist agenda 90 percent of the time. Bill Moyers (a Jimmy Carter man) is one of the worst of the bunch. He was the producer of a series of "Crossroads" specials in 2007 which looked at differences between the western world and the Muslims. PBS requested proposals from different producers and chose by jury 7 or 8 to fund thru production. When they found out that conservative Frank Gafney was involved in one of these efforts, Moyers and others refused to air the completed program - which was funded with public money. I don't know if you remember but I sent out a lot of emails about this. See my letter to PBS below.
Now you may tempted to think that since Moyers was a former pastor that his viewpoint is indicative of Christian Americans. It is not. Moyers has a leftist - and perhaps Christian leftist (ala Jimmy Carter) viewpoint. I can assure you that MOST fundamental Christians - and almost all evangelical Christians - stand solidly behind Israel and the Jewish people. By contrast, most leftists - and very many liberals including liberal Jews - are very opposed to Israel's actions in Gaza. For these people their liberal ideologies trump their allegiance to Israel because their moral convictions are driven by their political ideologies and are not grounded in the morality of their faith and G-d. As you know, 80 percent of Jewish Americans voted for Barack Obama while 80 percent of Jewish Americans living in Israel voted for John McCain. What does that tell you?
Make no mistake - Moyers represents LEFTIST America. His viewpoint is far more common among those in the Democratic party and in leftist Europe than among Republicans and conservatives. There are always exceptions of course - but the generalizations certainly apply here AND are significant.
Please read (or re-read) Dennis Prager's letter to Alan Dershowitz - which I sent out last week. I became a Republican as a result of how I saw the left and the Democrats reaction to the Islamists and to the terror faced daily by Israelis. As far as I'm concerned, this is the central issue of our time. No other issue that we face as a country and as a society is as critically important as our struggle with fundamental Islam. The left has it absolutely wrong about this issue. The words "Islamic terror" were never used in any of the Democratic Presidential debates (not once) but this issue was brought up in almost every Republican debate.
You have every right to be incensed that Bill Moyers is using our public airwaves and our public money to spew is very biased viewpoints about Israel and the Palestinians to the American public. More like almost all of the virus and worm threats are designed to target windows. Unix-like systems are much less susceptible to those kinds of threats because of the way that they are designed and because most of the crackers out there are too busy trying to wreck havoc on windows systems.

There's actually a lot more to it than that. On a Mac it is really really hard to gain access to certain parts of the processor. That is what slows down the hackers.
I have several Macs and one PC. When the Mac encounters attempted hacks it simply ignores them - no problem. If something serious comes along it simply shuts down - and effectively blocks the hack.
Now on the PC it reacts differently to bugs. It starts acting weird. Then slows down. Then starts having heart palpitations. Then says "hey, I think I'm infected. Yep. I have a virus. This is not good. I think I'm gonna crash. Yep I'm definitely gonna crash. Hard."

I was on the MS site today when it flipped over to "okay, you can download it now". I couldn't believe how fast the thing downloaded using their Akamai download manager. 2.24Gb in less than 30 minutes. I burned it onto a DVD, and upgraded this machine from build 6801 (upgrade in enabled, you'll be happy to know).

I stopped watching PBS and stopped listening to NPR long ago. This is exactly the reason. These "public" networks espouse a leftist agenda 90 percent of the time. Bill Moyers (a Jimmy Carter man) is one of the worst of the bunch. He was the producer of a series of "Crossroads" specials in 2007 which looked at differences between the western world and the Muslims. PBS requested proposals from different producers and chose by jury 7 or 8 to fund thru production. When they found out that conservative Frank Gafney was involved in one of these efforts, Moyers and others refused to air the completed program - which was funded with public money. I don't know if you remember but I sent out a lot of emails about this. See my letter to PBS below.
Now you may tempted to think that since Moyers was a former pastor that his viewpoint is indicative of Christian Americans. It is not. Moyers has a leftist - and perhaps Christian leftist (ala Jimmy Carter) viewpoint. I can assure you that MOST fundamental Christians - and almost all evangelical Christians - stand solidly behind Israel and the Jewish people. By contrast, most leftists - and very many liberals including liberal Jews - are very opposed to Israel's actions in Gaza. For these people their liberal ideologies trump their allegiance to Israel because their moral convictions are driven by their political ideologies and are not grounded in the morality of their faith and G-d. As you know, 80 percent of Jewish Americans voted for Barack Obama while 80 percent of Jewish Americans living in Israel voted for John McCain. What does that tell you?
Make no mistake - Moyers represents LEFTIST America. His viewpoint is far more common among those in the Democratic party and in leftist Europe than among Republicans and conservatives. There are always exceptions of course - but the generalizations certainly apply here AND are significant.
Please read (or re-read) Dennis Prager's letter to Alan Dershowitz - which I sent out last week. I became a Republican as a result of how I saw the left and the Democrats reaction to the Islamists and to the terror faced daily by Israelis. As far as I'm concerned, this is the central issue of our time. No other issue that we face as a country and as a society is as critically important as our struggle with fundamental Islam. The left has it absolutely wrong about this issue. The words "Islamic terror" were never used in any of the Democratic Presidential debates (not once) but this issue was brought up in almost every Republican debate.

In area and population Gaza is almost identical to Philadelphia. Hardly the most densely populated area in the world. Use Google Earth and fly down the coastline from the northern border, and marvel at the beautiful udeveloped beachfront. In Chicago we call that real estate. The Cancun/Cozumel area got ripped up pretty bad a few years ago when Wilma hit. That place got rebuilt so fast it was crazy. Devastation is bad for business, so who needs it. Get it fixed. Gaza, it seems has problems that go beyond mere weather. The people themselves seem to want things to be as bad as they can be. From a western viewpoint they seem to be such tools.

Gaza is brown. The Palestinians -- for which, read Hamas - are not growing anything, they're not doing anything but attacking Israel and blaming the Israelis for their own problems. As they have since 1967.
Until they grow up and accept responsibility for their problems, I don't see any hope for Gaza... or for the PLA as a political entity.
I wonder if the greenhouses and fields of the expelled Jews are still green. Or did the Arabs burn them down? Just to keep everything brown...

The bassoon is one of my favorite instruments. It has the medieval aroma -- like the days when everything used to sound like that. Some people crave baseball -- I find this unfathomable -- but I can easily understand why a person could get excited about playing a bassoon.
