The problem dealing with truthers is using rationality on people who have no capacity for rational thought.
Though I have no alternate suggestion. Maybe show them how a bic lighter works and draw their attention elsewhere.

More excellent questions that will undoubtedly be answered by the "troofers" with wild assertions and vague generalizations. Or when all else fails, "it Bush's fault" or the wildly popular "your a racist!".
What a bunch of mindless morons.

All these conspiracy theories hinge on one premise:
The Bush Administration is both the most clever, gifted, and achieving administration ever AND CONCURRENTLY the most bumbling, dimwitted, and least achieving administration ever.
The duality of which, I don't think anyone will be able to sort out. Which is it? Is GWB the most devious and cunning mastermind since Alexander, Khan, or even Hitler? Or does he fit in better with the Mayberry gang? Which is it?

1) To those who believe that 9/11 was a replay of Operation Northwoods: your claim is that the Joint Chief of Staff’s contingency plan for “false flag” attacks to be blamed on Castro’s Cuba (dated March 1962) was resurrected forty or so years later, and implemented with the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington. If the US government intended to use Northwoods as the template for 9/11, then why was the plan declassified and released into the public domain five months beforehand? What kind of government perpetrates an act of mass murder on its own populace, and then reveals to the world how they planned and executed it?
Why to throw everyone off-center!
ROVE, YOU MAGNIFICENT BASTARD!

What happened to the passengers indeed. Our friend Michael Horrocks was the co-pilot on the United flight that was the second plane to hit the WTC. That footage is so hard to watch knowing he's on there but probably dead.
The previous day he had been putting in a new brick walkway at his home, left-half done to finish when he returned. After 911 a few neighbors got together and finished the walkway for his wife and three children.
I've heard the conspiracists say the government bought off the passengers - or had them all killed. You'd have to kill people to keep them away from their spouses and children.

When tempted to "investigate" a potential troof, I make it a point to run the issue by the dumbest, most disinterested person I can find.
The result us usually that that person will make some comment that points out how silly the troof issue really is. Quite often, the reviewer will get sucked into the issue, though, so it does have downsides.
... and yes, there are (is) a troof issue out there that still leaves me questioning some things.

You can't make this stuff up ....
Google Opens ‘School of Personal Growth’
...the conference was not a tech event but a spirituality seminar called “Happiness and Its Causes” — and the launch was not a new product but the School of Personal Growth at Google University, an in-house education program for company employees.
According to Paul Kaihla of the spirituality site Soul’s Code, the new school offers employees four areas of study: mental development; emotional development; holistic health; and the Buddhist concept “beyond the self.” Courses include “The Neuroscience of Empathy” and “Search Inside Yourself” and are taught by the likes of Stanford neuroscientist Philippe Goldin and Zoketsu Norman Fischer, a poet and Zen priest.
Word of the company’s dip into spiritual waters first leaked out when Google engineer Chade-Meng Tan spoke on a panel at the Happiness conference. A practicing Buddhist and company tastemaker, Tan was a founder of the project:
Tan suggested that Google’s School of Personal Growth is a futuristic model for every workplace. “Google wants to help Googlers grow as human beings on all levels,” Tan said in his presentation. “Emotional, mental, physical and ‘beyond the self.’”

Sharp as bowling balls...

Elevators don't go to the top floor.

These questions, like all the others posed to troofers will go unanswered. They can't refute them, or support their own conspiracies, because the truth and facts are irrefutable. Planes crashed into the towers, which caused their destruction, not planted explosives. Anyone watching live (as I and many New Yorkers did) or on the multiple videos and coverage that day and since would see the planes ramming into the towers.
The cockpit recordings and FAA audios show what happened.
Some suppose that the buildings were rigged during routine maintenance. Exactly what kind of routine maintenance would enable the buildings to be rigged for demolition? Anyone who follows the CDI videos that are widely available knows that it takes extensive demolition of interior structures to prepare for a controlled demolition. The buildings must be weakened in order for the explosives to work. That and the fact that there was no explosives residue ever found.
To suggest otherwise is to admit a conspiracy so vast that everyone from the people on board the planes to the Port Authority was in on it. Still, these troofers will claim exactly that.
The truth is simply too horrible for these people to care to admit - that Islamic terrorists carried through on their promises to wage war against the US and bring down the towers that were targets previously in 1993.

The consensus was that Obama deserves this because of all that he has done for this country.

From the Department of the Obvious: With the amount of traitors and Republican-haters who are employed by our government and are eager to give up anything to get in bed with the willful and gullible staff at the NY Times, there's no way in hell that a successful cover-up could have ever been pulled off.

Lets face it. Democratically governed capitalism is TOO SUCCESSFUL.
We have created wealth and leisure time beyond the comprehension of Aristotle.
Young men and women who should be laboring are instead studying fanciful liberal arts without any foundation in classical study. They have no idea how this wealth and comfort came to them.
Upding for you. My daughter just graduated with a liberal arts degree from a religious school in Virginia. She and her new husband are very hard working, having worked all summer installing security systems in the inner city of Boston. She ran into lots of layabouts at both ends of the economic spectrum.
They are just finishing a 3 month hiatus, and are in fact enroute today to Dallas from Star Valley Wyoming, where my son-in-law's parents live. During that time they both did lots of ranch work helping his grandfather herd cattle, take cattle to market, and "the slaughter." The grandpa is a real 81 year old Wyoming cowboy complete with hat - he even wore jeans and a plaid shirt and cowboy hat to the kids wedding- right out of central casting.
She is having our first grandchild in July. These kids get it.

An empty building marked for destruction by specialists takes weeks if not months of preparation, during which the entire structure is gutted while the explosives are placed. How exactly were the WTC towers rigged for demolition in such a manner that no one working in the offices within these buildings noticed anything unusual?

Secondly, the claim that one is “just asking questions” is liberating, as it frees the truther of the obligation of actually constructing a coherent alternative theory - based on the evidence at hand - which is more convincing than the “official theory”.
Very well said.

Yeah, definitely. I was only in for 3 years and never saw combat. The day after I got to Ft. Sill for Basic, the ceasefire was declared. You should have seen the looks on the faces of all of us who had enlisted, we were like "WTF are we gonna do now"? Turned out to be a great experience and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

I was living in Oxford, England at the time. The John Radcliffe Hospital was designated for combat wounded evacuated from Kuwait/Iraq. Although I have no medical training, I wanted to volunteer to do jobs to free up the nurses. I called the staff office but was told that they didn't need any more help.
I was so disappointed that I couldn't help, but fervently thankful that we had so few casualties.

David Gregory had four African Americans on this morning including Bill Cosby & Maxine Waters as the panel, to discuss the Inauguration of Obama. I doubt that NBC even realizes how racial that was.
The consensus was that Obama deserves this because of all that he has done for this country.

I have a question. How stupid are these people?
Trooferism is a matter of differently abled intelligence, not plain old, garden variety stupidity. These people really can remember where they parked the car. They can read, sort of, in a country where at latest estimates 14% of adults are functionally illiterate, unable to read instructions on a prescription and unable to read this here post.
What the troofer can't do is bring common sense to bear on questions that lack any immediate relevance to his own plans for the next week. Put him on a plane with four dudes-fitting-a-stereotype who gather in the aisle and bring out knives and guns. Your average troofer will not smile and ask if he can play with the shiny sharp things. He will get it, finally. He doesn't get it now, because trooferism is a wonderful rhetorical and face-saving device.
A troofer doesn't need to suffer embarrassment when the conversation turns to Benazir Bhutto, or Gaza, or energy supplies and Russia and Georgia. He doesn't have to demonstrate knowledge of current affairs, or insight, or even the ability to follow a line of thought. He just sweeps the pieces from the table with the arch declaration that "it was all a plot". And just like that, he gets this rush: those know-it-alls have been put in their places, by gum. He is the superior! He rules! And they sort of turn away, and drift off, and he is left to reflect on his own greatness and secret merit.

infidelinc Sun, Jan 11, 2009 9:44:32am |
An excellent article about superstition called "Teaching Pigs to Sing" by Harriet Hall [Link: www.csicop.org...]
It doesn't matter, troofers have already completed the steps for membership into their group-think cult. It's a hobby/religion for them, if it required logic & effort, it wouldn't be 'fun' for troofers to go about troofing. Once you free yourself from brain accountability, you pave the way for all sorts of fantasies...
It's part of a larger problem, I think we've got a surplus on make-believe. I truly blame Dag, the cave dwelling idiot who came up with the concept of a 'supernatural man floating in the sky who controls all the stuff we can't explain'. Once we put to rest 'faith' and other derivative superstitious nonsense, we can finally get back to killing each other for actual resources and battling those pesky otters.

The death itself and the fact that Ashraf’s cameraman had filmed all the PREVIOUS events, and the subsequent return to the home with the body, and the funeral, would have been dramatic enough… in fact the hospital post-death concluding effort by the doctor(s) in no way enhanced the power of the filming - if anything it weakened it… just a body lying there and Ashraf mourning over his dead brother’s lifeless corpse would have been more powerful.
That means the Chanel 4 piece (and the Paul Martin's narration) lied when they said the possibly lifeless boy was wrapped in a shroud and cradled at home before going to the hospital.

How can Bill clinton and obama not be terribly jealous of George W. Bush who has this wonderful iconic father - fighter pilot, hero, ambassador, CIA director, president, philanthropist, adventurer - and they had their own horrible fathers mess of their lives - and it shows.
Not to put too fine a point on it, but George HW Bush was a torpedo bomber pilot- IMHO these people were the bravest of all WWII Naval Aviators since they flew low and straight directly into the enemy's guns to deliver their payloads.
And yes, the relationships all three men had with their fathers is telling in how they conducted, or will conduct themselves as POTUS.

I found the part you quoted from his e-mail to be most strange. Most strange. Here he is saying, basically, that after some consideration, they wish they had sent out different pieces of the film, only those parts that would have the most emotional impact.
Strange to me that he would admit that the purpose of this story was to have emotional impact, rather than straight factual impact. Wouldn't that then be an editorial and not a news story?

In seven years, the "truthers" have answered none of the 20 questions because they cannot. Their "leadership" are all profiteering from Islamic terrorists murdering 2,975 people; the reest are a menagerie of misfits, mentally ill people, the willfully ignorant, morons, and anti-Semites.
Most deserving an upding! ;)

How ironic. Last night the wife and I watched "Eagle Eye." Don't want to ruin it for lizards who haven't seen it...well, the writer and director can do that for ya...but the bottom line is that the all-powerful, unassailable villain of the piece...controlling everything in the whole freakin' world....
well, all it takes in the end is to poke it with a stick.
Sheesh. How about that troofers?

I think he does have the time to read the blogs, send out letters and make comments. He's obviously very concerned about defending his story. But I think he looked at the questions we have for him and thought better of it. I'd be very surprised if he ever does release the unedited video.

Yay!
Thanks - that was brilliant!
Did you see, at about 2.00 into the video, how the dog held the ewe at bay? That wasn't just the stalking and running - he gave her the full Collie Stare, which does transfix the ewes (and humans!).
Btw - the stalking and lying down during the approaches is precisely how wolves in the wild stalk and hunt their prey.

OT
This is a copy of a letter I sent to the LA Times this morning after buying their Sunday edition.
Dear Sir or Madam:
As a 4 year Army veteran and a father of a young soldier who is deploying to Afghanistan in November, I am deeply disturbed to see a full color photo of a Taliban terrorist on your front page, along with the imbedded reporters story and I wonder just which side your newspaper is on? Paul Watson called them "gracious hosts", but Mr. Watson has not seen how the Taliban treat teachers, aid workers and captured soldiers.
Perhaps if the LA Times supported our military and police force more often, your newspaper could than start making a profit again.
Sincerely
xxxxxxxx, xxxxxxxxxxx

He might, or might not. I'm not expecting they would change anything, the Arabs playact 24x7, they have to fool themselves even more than they have to fool anyone else. I suppose they're not unique in that, btw, just saying.

I'm wondering who wrote the script he narrated? Was it given to him? Maybe part of his defensiveness is that he did it without question being the tool that he has proven to be for them?

I've been asking the second question in that article for a long time now, and surprisingly, no one can seem to answer it or even address it. Oh wait...did I say surprisingly?
Another good question is that if a missile hit the Pentagon, then where did all the airliner debris in the Pentagon yard come from? Did the members of the conspiracy just walk out there after (even funnier thought...before?) the missile hit and scatter plane debris throughout the yard for everyone else at the Pentagon and all of the people on the interstate overlooking the yard to see? The idea is beyond ridiculous.

I think the troofers have the same underlying issue that HAMAS' anti-Israel supporters have: They do/did not believe that the Bush White House had a reason/justification to exist. Similarly to the Anti Israel movement, their ideas are driven by underlying hatred which no reasoned argument or evidence will ever change.
