These are the stories the MSM should be doing.

From my cancellation email to the Boston Globe:

One way to improve the reporting would be to include articles on how Israel has received years of rocket attacks, and how they have coped. Some reports on how the people of Sderot, inside pre-1967 Israel, have had to cope with years of rocket attacks, would go a long way to explaining Israel's reaction. The inhabitants of Sderot have not been able to have normal lives for years.

Having watched the video 3 times, I'm pleasantly surprised by the graphics shown at appropriate moments.

Video begins with the world, spinning, stopping on Israel. Nice perspective.
Joe starts out by saying he's in Sderot, and during the audio, the video zooms in on a satellite view of Israel, ending up at the geographic location. Boundaries are displayed in red.

Alternative would be Katie Couric with a deer-in-the-headlights look sitting behind a desk, big map behind her.

Ed Morressy on Joe the Plumber.....
Joe the Plumber becomes Joe the Media

....Joe seems ready to make the same mistake that the MSM does, which is picking sides rather than reporting. He’s made it clear that his mission is to tell the Israeli side, which is unfortunately badly needed at this stage. At least he’s honest about that, but it doesn’t make him that much better than his mainstream media peers. If they announced that they felt a duty to report the Palestinian side of the conflict because they genuinely believe that Israel is the aggressor, would that make their reporting any more objective or truthful? Not really.

What this conflict needs is disinterested, dispassionate reporting, a historical record that doesn’t rely on terrorist propagandists nor on “patriotic” reports from the front. Joe the Plumber may make a fine columnist or opinion journalist — we’ll see when he begins filing regular reports — but his entirely legitimate criticism of the mainstream global media will apply to himself as well if he declares that he will deliver “patriotic” reports on behalf of Israel.

As I noted in the DT, Gilbert was in Gaza for all of a week - he's now back in Oslo spewing his nonsensical agitprop for anyone who is in earshot. He was at Shifa hospital, fully staffed by Hamas thugs on the payroll, mugging for the cameras and doing bad propaganda videos.

I'm sorry, but if the situation is as bad as he claims, how did he have time to mug for the cameras? I know interns in residency pull longer shifts than that which Gilbert did, and then they're still going at it. Evil.

Gilbert compares Gaza to the Warsaw Ghetto. Nice. Classy. Just ignore the thousands of rockets fired by Hamas at Israel necessitating Israel's response to defend itself from genocidal terrorists. Gilbert has repeatedly sided with evil (supported the 9/11 attackers), so going and throwing support to Hamas is a step down.

re: #22 Killgore Trout

Here's some black irony: In the midst of Hamas fighters committing war crimes by embedding themselves among the part of a civilian population most at risk, a UNRWA spokesman questions someone else's credibility:

The Shin Bet told ministers last week that Hamas leaders were hiding in a basement bunker built by Israel under the Shifa Hospital complex in Gaza City. The basement at the hospital was refurbished during Israel's occupation of the Gaza Strip, Haaretz reported on Monday. The United Nations insists that it keeps Hamas members out of the schools, clinics and other institutions it runs in Gaza.

In response to Dichter's comments, a UNRWA spokesman in Israel said on Monday that the UN was getting mixed messages from the Israeli establishment, and that with each "flip flop" the credibility of each Israeli assertion is "diminished incrementally."

This is why it's refreshing to see Joe the Plumber. He's gonna call it like he sees it without the filters installed by years of J-school indoctrination.

Not just that. It's also a bit of NOCD (Not Our Class Dear). Some in the MSM look down on Joe as a working class "bitter clinger" (to use Obama's phrasing again). They want to believe that a journalist cannot be made out of a blue-collar worker. This attitude is what rational people call "Being an asshole".

Ed at HotAir is trying to say Joe should be objective when reporting on Hamas.

Hamas is a terrorist organization. They dont rate any objectivity. What is he thinking?

Nobody watching TV today recognizes the name Ernie Pyle.
Objective reporting in a war zone requires bias.

The public needs to know where the reporter is coming from. Today's public cannot see the elephant in the room when viewing a report from somebody embedded with Hamas.

Anybody know of a Michael Yon or Michael Totten report from an embedded with the Taliban perspective?

re: #82 lawhawk

As I noted in the DT, Gilbert was in Gaza for all of a week - he's now back in Oslo spewing his nonsensical agitprop for anyone who is in earshot. He was at Shifa hospital, fully staffed by Hamas thugs on the payroll, mugging for the cameras and doing bad propaganda videos.

I'm sorry, but if the situation is as bad as he claims, how did he have time to mug for the cameras? I know interns in residency pull longer shifts than that which Gilbert did, and then they're still going at it. Evil.

and while the MAD doctor was in that hospital,he turned a blind eye to Hamas thugs EXECUTING patients.

[Link: www.nytimes.com...]

"At Shifa Hospital in Gaza, the director, Dr. Hussein Ashour, said that keeping his patients alive from their wounds was an enormous challenge. He said there were some 1,500 wounded people distributed among Gaza’s nine hospitals with far too few intensive care units, equipped ambulances and other vital equipment.

On Monday, Dr. Ashour was not the only official in charge. Armed Hamas militants in civilian clothes roamed the halls. Asked their function, they said it was to provide security. But there was internal bloodletting under way.

In the fourth-floor orthopedic section, a woman in her late 20s asked a militant to let her see Saleh Hajoj, her 32-year-old husband. She was turned away and left the hospital. Fifteen minutes later, Mr. Hajoj was carried out by young men pretending to transfer him to another ward. As he lay on the stretcher, he was shot in the left side of the head.

Mr. Hajoj, like five others killed at the hospital this way in 24 hours, was accused of collaboration with Israel."

I thought that was the problem. Disinterested and dispassionate means there is no difference between the sides, the "reporter" is just a Global Citizen, everything must be fair meaning every motive for every action by every entity must be portrayed as equal and morally and ethically equivalent.

Screw disinterested and dispassionate. Go JOE! God forbid he ever attempts to "be liked" by the elites in academia and media. That would be his assimilation into the Borg hive-mind.

As a doctor, he surely ought to be aware of the fact that in the Warsaw Ghetto (as in the KZs generally) women stopped menstruating because of the lack of food, and thus did not conceive.

How is it then that the birth rate in Gaza is so high?

But hey, he don't need facts, scientific or otherwise, he's a propagandist pure and simple.

more on Mike Royko.

Mike Royko grew up in Chicago, living in an apartment above a bar. His mother was Polish and his father Ukrainian.[1] He briefly attended Wright Junior College and then enlisted in the U. S. Air Force in 1952.[2]

On becoming a columnist, he drew experiences from his childhood, becoming the voice of the Everyman Chicago. Although caustically sarcastic, he never condescended to his readers, he always remembered he was one of them.

Royko began his newsman's career as a columnist for the Naval Air Station Glenview newspaper and the City News Bureau of Chicago before working at the Chicago Daily News as a political reporter, becoming an irritant to the City's Democratic Machine politicians with penetrating and skeptical questions and reports.

I can't think of a single columnist like him today.

But that is precisely what none of them do.
They take the word of any hamashole as unvarnished truth while looking for the slightest fault in the IDF reportings.

I've been enraged again today reading about the story on 'white Phosphorus' - its in the ONT below.

Why do none of the reporters ask the simple question what someone is doing, sitting outside their house, when tehre is an IAF attack on?

Note Little Miss Moonbat who tries to convince the Islamothugs that "we don't need to use violence". Of course, they blow her off. Shape of things to come. If the Islamothugs take over, moonbats, once they get done with the Jews... you're next.

And that is something which is so totally below their horizon, they cannot even think that far.
They have so utterly succumbed to the arab propaganda - if they're told wearing a burqa is a political statement to 'free palestine', they'd do it straightaway!

This is why it's refreshing to see Joe the Plumber. He's gonna call it like he sees it without the filters installed by years of J-school indoctrination.

I'm a big believer in gifted amateurs. Having an Education Degree certainly isn't a formula for being an effective teacher - just look at the dismal state of education today. No offense to teachers but the Education bureaucracy that is responsible for our Education System certainly has made a botch of things.
I would think that the same applies to journalism.

I was on a UK news site thread a couple days ago, I think it was an article about the mob violence in London, and many UK/Brit commenters were saying things like "Why won't our government DO anything? O Noes! Why O why?"

I didn't have time, but I thought, "Why don't YOU do something? There comes a time, when the schoolteacher won't stop the bullies from beating you up, and it's obvious that she won't, that she has no inclination to, and even that she is enabling and encouraging the bullies, a time when you must say I WILL DEFEND MY NATION, MY CITY, MY BLOCK, MY HOME."

Many will just curl up into a ball and let the bullies (and the teacher) do whatever harm they wish, all the while whining that the teacher won't do anything. It seems that aside from Israel, the whole of the civilized world is curling up into a ball and whining that their leaders won't DO something.

Subversive thought for the day. I live in a relatively small town, but if pro-pally demonstrators or riotous morons of any other stripe decided that breaking all the windows on Main Street was a plan, I would hope that the men of this town would DO SOMETHING. And not just whine anonymously on some website about the town's government not doing anything.

Where are the men?

re: #260 Taqiyyotomist

Why just men?

"The Israeli air force has released video which it claims shows remotely targeted bombs being directed away from civilians at the last minute. It says it proves it is trying to avoid unnecessary casualties."

Who the hell wrote that caption? Both instances of "it says" are editorial and completely unnecessary clauses. Also completely according to AP/Reuters/AFP template. The paragraph (in my unschooled opinion) should read:

"The Israeli air force has released video which shows remotely targeted bombs being directed away from civilians at the last minute. [The video] proves it is trying to avoid unnecessary casualties."

Zbigniew Brzezinski was born in Warsaw, Poland, in 1928. His family had moved from Brzeżany in Galicia. This town is given as the source of his surname. His father was Tadeusz Brzeziński, a Polish diplomat who was posted to Germany from 1931 to 1935; Zbigniew Brzezinski thus spent some of his earliest years witnessing the rise of the Nazis. From 1936 to 1938, Tadeusz Brzeziński was posted to the Soviet Union during Stalin's Great Purge.

In 1938, Tadeusz Brzeziński was posted to Canada. In 1939, the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact was agreed to by Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union; subsequently the two powers invaded Poland. The 1945 Yalta Conference between the Allies allotted Poland to the Soviet sphere of influence, meaning Brzezinski's family could not safely return to their country.
After attending prep school in Montreal, [5] Brzezinski entered McGill University in 1945 to obtain both his BA and MA degrees (received in 1949 and 1950 respectively). His Master's thesis focused on the various nationalities within the Soviet Union.[6] Brzezinski's plan for doing further studies in Great Britain in preparation for a diplomatic career in Canada fell through, principally because he was ruled ineligible for a scholarship he had won that was only open to persons with British subject status. Brzezinski then went on to attend Harvard University in the United States to work on a PhD, focusing on the Soviet Union and the relationship between the October Revolution, Lenin's state, and the actions of Stalin. He received his doctorate in 1953; the same year, he traveled to Munich and met Jan Nowak-Jezioranski, head of the Polish desk of Radio Free Europe. He later collaborated with Carl J. Friedrich to develop the concept of totalitarianism and apply it to the Soviets in 1956.

The danger in giving him too much credence lies in when he says things that we would consider not well thought out or even irresponsible if it came from a person of influence in the conservative movement. While you and I are well able to keep him perspective (I hope), my fear is that we are setting up our political opponents to make too much political hay when he goes off the plantation.

This is worth repeating:

According to army estimates (based on intelligence and information obtained by the Gaza Coordination and Liaison Administration), at least 400 of the palestinians killed are known Hamas operatives. Furthermore, the IDF believes that among the remaining 500, at least half are Hamas operatives. In other words, more than 750 of the 905 dead could well have been Hamas terrorists, which is a starkly different picture to the one being painted by the likes of Hamas, UNRWA, and the world media.

Far from the multitudes of civilian casualties claimed, the overwhelming majority are Hamas turned humus. That's 82.8% of all dead being attributed as Hamas thugs. 100% of those dead were killed because Hamas waged war against Israel.
