Joe the Plumber Makes Waves

Media • Views: 1,924

Not everyone is impressed with Joe Wurzelbacher’s debut as a correspondent, and Pajamas Media deserves credit for posting a view from a critic: Pajamas Media » No-Joe: Wurzelbacher Is Not Edward R. Murrow.

Ed Morrissey is also unenthusiastic.

I'd like to vote "pretty good" AND "tool of Zionist honcos", but you can only vote for one, so I went with "pretty good".

I hate to be a fashion freak but, he needs to lose the printed T-shirts. A solid T-shirt under a well-tailored blazer would be mahvelous! He can even keep the jeans.

I really liked what he said about not looking for "the story" but for the truth. All too often journalists go into a theater looking to reinforce a tip, their own biases, what have you.

Maybe I misunderstood his role - I didn't see him going as an example of what the media SHOULD be, specifically non-biased, reporting the facts as they are with no spin. I envisioned him going over there to be the "counter balance" if you will, with his delivery being somewhat, well a lot, unrefined. Like he is telling us a story over his backyard fence or something, which would be his schtick.

I would like to have PJ Media send over a "correspondent" that fits the bill of journalist - just the facts delivered in a coherent manner whether that be live or in print form. I do not hold that this should only go to someone who holds a journalism degree or has been in the "business".

I'm sorry, but he just sounds to me like the right-leaning eejit equivalent of far too many left-wing eejits.

"Well, I don't know a damn thing about this situation, but my gut tells me..."

The left-wing eejit's gut tells him that children dying in war is BAD.

Joe's gut tells him that terrorism is BAD.

They're both, actually, right, but they have no clue what's going on around them, so it's not especially important that they have these insights.

I just don't get Joe. He seems like a nice enough man, but...uh...why is he a foreign correspondent now?

I think it's because there is a thirst for (pardon the use of the word) change. We know what we're going to get with the msm, and there's a large number of people who are tired of it. We don't want nuance and spin, we want facts. So I think it's natural that a person perceived as a straight shooter, like Joe, would be appealing.

It's pretty simple- if the msm would quit bullshitting us, they might see a turn around in their numbers.

If any person, whether a qualified journo, a sideline observer, a plumber, a (insert your choice here) reports an event as the truth, then thats fine by me. If their report is filled with lies, distortions and opinions based on poor research of the facts then they are certainly tools for whomever commissioned their view.

The mayor of my towns wears many hats, Here is a column he had published in a National Sunday paper. If you are anti-semitic, anti-zionist, you would call him a zionist tool. But he has the facts right, so he is no-ones tool, he, is fact, a reporter of facts and that makes him credible.

Except, of course, if you are from the other side.

90 formercorpsman  Mon, Jan 12, 2009 6:16:21pm

I have to say, I am all for for JTP getting out there and doing this.

While there is quite a few things that make me boil, there are 2 things that nearly put me on the edge of fury as it relates to the media.

The first being CNN showing the terrorists sniper porn. Watching one of my brethren go down, writhing the way he did, knowing one of our own media entities actually came into possession of the tape, and 2 decided to play it.

Second is when one our dead warriors was shown being dragged in the streets of Mogadishu.

I am all for freedom of the press. But they have decided to dance on the side of evil. They forgot who provides their freedom. They point the finger at people who profit, all the while the don't see the plank in their own eye.

Screw the media. They have made this bed, now they can lay in it. The dye is cast.

Joe is a decent common man who's got a higher intelligence level than the vast majority of the folks at the MSM.

Personally, I didn't expect him to brush up on his speech and instantly become a well spoken correspondent.

Nothing can defy the overwhelming pro-Islamic bias in the media anyway, whether it's Netanyahu directly debunking BBC news correspondents, or it's Fox News correspondents trying to argue with pro-terrorists scum. You see in anti-Israeli protests vermin that's amazingly fascistic (like "Jews are terrorist", or "kill all Juice"), yet it's taken for granted /ignored by the MSM. Imagine if "Muslims are terrorists" were signs in pro-Israeli protests.

Joe needs to learn how to be a legitimate foreign Mideast correspondent.

He's lucky that it can be learned and done in three easy steps.

One. He needs an Arab buddy to supply him with fake videos.

Two. He needs to pronounce "disproportionate" properly and learn how to use it in every sentence.

Three. He needs to constantly lament the state of the "Peace Process" and blame Israel for that condition.

If he masters these lessons, not only can he be a certified journalist but he can be a diplomat too.

Joe Dude is just a guy riding his fifteen minutes of fame for all it's worth. Hope he gets paid, hope he doesn't let himself be tooled by everyone who's trying to tool him and I hope he keeps his soul. Sometimes the lottery doesn't give you actual dollars - it gives you an opportunity which is up to you to turn into cash/happiness/fame. Dude is just another guy who won a literal lottery.

Achmed the Dead Terrorist: A-C-phlegm...

117 norar  Mon, Jan 12, 2009 8:08:40pm

I don't think Joe is any worse than most 'reporters' that "report" from Israel. At least he does produce some real reportings without relying on Hamas' and their tools' fed bullshit, and he is not pretending to be "unbiased", as more articulate and sleek slimy, MSM 'reporters' do.

I lived in Naples, Italy until this summer. The Carabinieri are as corrupt as the Camorra. There isn't one person in that city that isn't paid by them. The US Navy Support Site is owned by that guy. Can't find him my ass, he's always in meetings with the Site commander about the new things that we've done to approve his land. Then the Camorra come back with, this was not done with my labors, take it down and do another contract.

What is watered down about that?

124 sifty  Mon, Jan 12, 2009 9:06:00pm

Hey y'all - if anyone's out here still - didn't want to go to the Gaza cam, cause I've seen the kind of stuff (war) before, up close and personal and it's frankly not really all that interesting to watch on a webcam - or at least it wasn't the last time we did it.

131 TheMole  Mon, Jan 12, 2009 9:20:57pm

How can Joe be worse than CNN with its ridiculously bogus CPR on the Palestinian kid video? How can putting Joe on camera be worse than putting Hamas tools like Mads Gilbert on air? And of course the media simply hate any competition.

132 realwest  Mon, Jan 12, 2009 9:24:53pm

re: #131 TheMole He can't be - he's not polished enough to work for the MSM and moreover he has this engaging (to me no doubt enraging to the MSM) habit of asking what I think the MSM would consider "inconvenient" questions - certainly about how the hell can anyone expect the Israelis to take to fall out shelters at seconds notice and WTH is Hamas doing deliberatley targetting civilians (by firing unaimed rockets at civilian population centers).
Plus he didn't go to "J" school.

133 gone2sanibel  Mon, Jan 12, 2009 9:36:54pm

Is it possible Joe is just playing a joke on everyone? He goes to Israel to cover the war as a member of the media and then states the media should not be permitted to cover wars. Can't we appreciate the humor in that? I mean, there is no way this guy can be as stupid as he appears, so I think he's just playing a joke on everyone. Maybe he is a leftist making fun of people on the right.

I like that it pisses him off to be attacked by the rockets. Christiane Amanpour would be like " It appears to be a response to Isreali aggression hitting innocents around us...."

Joe is like "this sucks, I don't know how you people can put up with this!" "It makes we want to take retribution." Honesty. Common sense. Nothing wrong with that.

141 shiplord kirel  Mon, Jan 12, 2009 11:06:36pm

I think Joe rocks. The truth of this situation is simple, the facts embody it. Joe keeps it simple, sticks to the facts, and challenges the elite propagandists who do not. There are no invited inferences, no false appeals to authority, no loaded language, no misleadingly emotional imagery.
He is not Madison Avenue (the REAL heart of the media) and it shows. I think he does need some additional training (lose the "you knows" for instance*) but his reports are compelling. There is a lot more there than just a guy with his heart in the right place.

*God forbid that a plumber would sound as dumb as Princess Caroline.

re: #148 Jimmah

I somewhat agree. If Joe doesn't take himself that seriously right now, then it succeeds in PJMedia getting some great attention, and gives people the perspective of an "average joe" in an exceptional situation. Could be kind of fun. Plus Joe gets a free trip to Israel.

However, there is potential for him looking like a huge tool and embarassing himself, which would suck. However we're all conservatives here and you make your own choices and accept the consequences.

150 Claire  Tue, Jan 13, 2009 9:35:17am

I just read Ed Morrissey's thing. Could not disagree more.

And that certainly doesn’t give Joe the standing to deliver a lecture on how to provide war coverage.....
Why not hire Yon, Totten, Ardolino, or Johannes — hard-nosed and fair war correspondents who don’t employ bias and can actually lecture reporters on how to cover a war?

The standing? Excuse me? It all the sudden requires a certain "standing" to criticise media? Ed, are you out of your mind? You've just disqualified the entire Blogosphere and anybody who dares to have their own opinion. The common man doesn't need "standing" or "permission" from anybody, much less you- What, we have to apply to an official ministry now to speak out?

Why not hire the other guys? I dunno, why don't you start your own TV channel. Get your check book out and go for it.

I dunno, am I qualified enough to criticise you in the grand heirarchy?
