Put Maisey back on her perch! We'll get the picture back!

Really, Maisey hit the bottom of the cage, down feathers all over the floor. It's not unusual. Maisey is over 20 years old, was born with deformed claws and feet, loud sounds startle her.

Parrots are rather flexible.

139 Walter L. Newton  Mon, Jan 12, 2009 6:20:27pm

Interesting thing is, if something hit with in camera range, or a flare goes up, the camera does have a human operator to catch the action. But he pans away from anything actively burning or any shot that could show a location in Gaza being destroyed.

They are going for the "big bang" but do not want to show any of the aftermath. At least not from this location.

It's propaganda, plain and simple. Show Gaza getting hit, but don't show Gaza going up in flames.

Little Casey Qassam, sitting in the shed
Was waiting to be fired, and to make Israelis dead
But Casey didn't want to go, he didn't want to fly
"They're going to force me to blow up,"
Said Casey, "Why, oh why?"
"I'm just a piece of tubing that's been ripped from Gaza's streets,
I'd really rather carry waste than forced this fate to meet."
And so brave Casey then refused to go where he was sent,
And took his makers out instead in a work accident.

Bravo.

No, Israel's not shooting off incendiaries. Most likely, some WP, as noted earlier, and the occasional illuminating flare. With their longer burn-times, plus the iris on the camera being wide open (see the P. Hilton comments earlier) the illusion of a town afire is easily explained.

WP is fire, it's hot, it no doubt starts fires. But it is not designed to start/spread them. If this were napalm or other "Firebombing" materiel, you'd be seeing entire block burning vigorously. That's my understanding, anyway.

Looking up their website,

CastUP is a leading developer and service provider of global IP Video streaming solutions. Founded in 1999 by a group of experienced IT professionals with a goal to make IP based video accessible to all.
The company grew steadily and today holds 90% market share of the evolving Israeli market. Supporting multiple video-streaming standards, CastUP products and services are the first choice for many market leading companies in various industries. We enable fast and responsive solutions for almost every need related to streaming media.
CastUP R&D and corporate headquarters are based in Tel Aviv.

So, while it could be Palestinians running the camera one can be sure that Israel thinks it serves their purposes for now.

It's a nice calming alternative to overlap the Al Jizzira video with the title "56k" that pops in the same page, that hogs the castup servers.

WP is fire, it's hot, it no doubt starts fires. But it is not designed to start/spread them. If this were napalm or other "Firebombing" materiel, you'd be seeing entire block burning vigorously. That's my understanding, anyway.

Postedf this 2 threads back...sheesh still trying to catch up...

Fine, my point is, they do start fires. I think some are splitting hairs here. Whether they are "designed" to start fires, or their primary purpose is to light an area, it will start a fire if it touches anything combustible on the ground.

I'm not bother by the fact that they start fires, hell, it's a war, but some of the rhetoric sounds makes it sound like it's so compartmentalized that we forget the plain facts, it's starting fires, lots of them and things are burning up, and people are burning up, if need be.

Fine.

I'm not much of a conversationalist. Because I'm more effective with a videocamera than a typewriter, you ususally find me on the Spinoff Links.

But today, I'm here to ask you to help elevate the poll-results of the the 2008 Weblog Awards, Best Video Blog category of to reflect the significance of overcoming anti-Israelism in order to defend the West against Jihadist imperialism.

Since 2005, I've produced and disseminated over 600 articles, with more than 150 original, pro-Israelism/Semitism, contra-Jihad videos which deliver an accurate, lucid perspective to over 100,000 annual viewers on YouTube and on DemoCast.TV

"Best Videoblog" is a category which Charles has no other endorsements in. I'm currently running in 5th place, behind the estimable, fellow-conservative Ms. Underestimated- who regrettably would need over 400 votes to catch up to achieving 1st place (she has a lock on 2nd place), but just 330 votes would give DemoCast a shot at jumping from 5th to 4th place. And even Sen. Norm Coleman would be grateful for so few, but significant, votes.

Please help show the importance of the defense of Israel against the imperialist, Jihadists' blood-libel rallying-cries. Would you please vote to help elevate DemoCast.TV rankings in the Best Video Blog category. Thank you.

LUU-2 Flare

Air-deployed LUU-2 high-intensity illumination flare are used to illuminate targets. The LUU-2B Flare has a light output rating of 1.8 x 10(6) candlepower and at 1,000 feet altitude illuminates a circle on the ground of 500 meters at 5 lux. The LUU-2 is housed in a pod or canister and is deployed by ejection. The mechanism has a timer on it that deploys the parachute and ignites the flare candle. The flare candle burns magnesium which burns at high temperature emitting an intense bright white light. The consumption of the aluminum cylinder that contains the flare "candle" may add some orange to the light. The LUU-2 flare enhances a pilot's ability to see targets while using Night Vision Goggles. With the introduction of A-10 Warthog Night Vision capability, such flares are not used as frequently as in the past as they provide too much light for the very sensitive goggles. Flares burn at uneven rates and therefore fluctuate in brightness.

The LUU-2 has a burn time of approximately 5 minutes while suspended from a parachute. The pyrotechnic candle consumes the flare housing, reducing flare weight which in turn slows the rate of fall during the last 2 minutes of burn time. At candle burnout an explosive bolt is fired, releasing one parachute support cable which causes the parachute to collapse. While unburned flares falling from high altitude could be dangerous, burned flares are much less dangerous since they are designed to burn up during the fall (even the aluminum casing is burned).

I'm not able to see the webcam right now, but give this info for anyone interested.

527 Walter L. Newton  Mon, Jan 12, 2009 7:08:55pm

This info on the "call to prayer" times does not compute with the fact that we have heard something during the last hour on this web cam feed...

"The public call to prayer is given at five specific times daily from minarets or mosques by the muezzin (from azan - "call to prayer"). Prayer times are determined by the position of the sun in the sky. The Muslim day begins with the sunset prayer, Mahgrib, followed by the evening prayer, Isha, which begins at nightfall. The last of the prayers to be regulated by the occurrence of twilight is the Fajr, beginning at daybreak. The Zuhr (noon prayer) and the Asr (afternoon prayer) are given by shadow-lengths. The Zuhr is given shortly after the sun has passed its highest point, where shadow-length is at its shortest. The Asr is given when this shadow-length has doubled. A stick or a gnomon could be used to check this time, which varies with both location and the time of year."

Never saw it, but heard good things.

Me, I think pop music died when the Talking Heads broke up, and the last and best Sci-Fi flick was the aforementioned Planet of the Apes, followed by Dune (1984). 2001, I consider it an artistic/religious experience, not a movie.

Dune is, really, a "religious experience". At the end of the book, Muadib becomes a god. The movie didn't quite get there, as I recall.

Planet of the Apes was the single Charleton Heston movie I didn't care for.

For Kevin Costner fiascos, I actually enjoyed The Postman.

I'm not debating the over-the-top depraved villain as the Baron is, but for a roller coaster ride of a movie you cannot beat Aliens.
Dune is fun to see every now and again, but I'd see Aliens nearly every time it airs.

I'd certainly like to know, because I've used that particular post to show some lib friends how the media can be manipulated. Weird, but watchable flick, if so.

Forbidden Planet.

From Wiki

"In the early 2200s, the United Planets Cruiser C-57D is sent to the planet Altair IV in the Altair star system, sixteen light years from Earth, to find out what happened to a colony expedition sent out some twenty years earlier. At the end of the year-long voyage, Commander John J. Adams (Leslie Nielsen) contacts Dr. Edward Morbius (Walter Pidgeon), the expedition's philologist, who warns him to stay away, but refuses to give a reason.

Upon landing, the crew is met by Robby the Robot, who takes Adams, his first officer, Lieutenant Jerry Farman (Jack Kelly), and Lieutenant "Doc" Ostrow (Warren Stevens) to Morbius' home. Morbius explains that a year after the expedition's arrival, some unknown force wiped out nearly everyone in his party and vaporized their starship as the last survivors tried to escape. Only he, his wife (who later died of other causes), and his infant daughter survived. Morbius fears that the same fate may await the crew of the C-57D."

re: #700 yochanan

the LGF cook book needs a recipe for rooster

Quick chicken Gaza rooster and dumplings

1 rooster, shell fragments, pellets, etc. removed, plucked and cleaned
3-4 cans refrigerated biscuits. Do not use the "buttery" kind.
1 large onion
3-4 stalks of celery
3-5 large carrots
salt pepper
thyme
milk

Skin chicken if desired. Cut up and place in a large pot and bring to a boil. Cover and simmer until tender. Remove chicken parts and strain broth. Return broth to the pot. Debone and skin chicken and dice, reserving the meat in a separate bowl.

In a smaller pot, peel and dice carrots, dice onion and celery. Cover with water and cook until vegetables are tender.

Meanwhile, cut biscuits into quarters and reserve.

Strain the vegetable stock into the chicken stock and bring to a full boil. Reserve the vegetables.

Carefully drop cut biscuits into boiling broth. Do not attempt to cook too many at once. Allow to boil for 30 seconds or so. Scoop out of pot to add in additional biscuit quarters and repeat until done.

Once all the dumplings are cooked, add chicken meat, vegetables, and cooked dumplings back to the large pot and simmer. Season to taste with salt, pepper, and thyme. When soup is heated through, add milk to make the broth opaque.

Serves 4-6 Zionist honcos. Milk may be omitted if necessary.

I figured out why there's such a lefty/Islamist convergence:
Work avoidance.

According to an official study, Egypt's six million government employees are estimated to spend an average of only 27 minutes per day actually working.

Two of each day's five sessions -- the dhuhr (noon) prayer and asr (afternoon) prayer -- fall within working hours, bringing work to a standstill at least twice a day in many places.

A prayer generally takes an average of 10 minutes, but it can be extended if a worshipper chooses to recite one of the longer verses of the Koran.

And before the prayers themselves, there is also a mandatory ablution during which worshippers must wash their faces, hands and arms, feet and heads. In large office buildings, the trips to the bathroom can also eat away at valuable work time.

We have an Imam reciting some kinda dirge/prayer for Hamas/whatever-this wasn't in last nights broadcast. Hamas Rap, maybe?

I've wondered about that. Hadn't heard it before either. I wonder if it's being sung/played to uplift the spirits of the faithful.

Serenity deserves a mention for being a great Sci-Fi film with a very good libertarian (small l) theme.

I bought it (seriously cheap), and two days later the SciFi channel announced they would be showing it.

The director's comments on the CD are really entertaining.
I think it's one of the best SciFi shootemup movies I've ever seen, and I loved the plot.

Wing Commander, now, there is a seriously artistic piece of work ...

Gotta be the Star Wars movie with Jar Jar Binks.

On a serious note, I don't think Star Wars is Sci-Fi. It is fantasy. It is all about the myth. The hero, in the classic literary sense.

At least the first three were (4,5,6) before Lucas went full BDS and now I don't know what it is.

[Link: online.wsj.com...]

Solid article. I like some of the points the author makes:

The idea of a Palestinian people, referring to the Arab inhabitants of the land, is also of relatively recent vintage. (The late, great Israeli pianist David Bar-Ilan, my predecessor as editor of the Jerusalem Post, was known, as a Jewish child during the British Mandate, as the "Palestinian piano prodigy.")

I know most of the people on LGF already know this fact...but its still virtually unheard of anywhere else, and I think its important that people understand that the very idea of the "Palestinians" is fabricated and drummed up propaganda in the Arab war against Israel.

This isn't to deny, as Golda Meir famously did, the existence of a Palestinian people. But it is to say that a Palestinian people -- as opposed to merely an Arab one -- exists only as a kind of counterpart, perhaps a twin, to the Israeli people. Put simply: No Israel, no Palestine.

Exactly...if Zionism didn't exist and the Ottoman Empire would have to be divided...it would be divided up between Iraq, Egypt, and the majority going to Syria.

It has never accepted the Oslo Accords. It is sworn to Israel's destruction. Its charter is nakedly and aggressively anti-Semitic; no fig leaf of "anti-Zionism" there. The closest it has ever come to terms with the Jewish state is the offer of a long-term hudna, on the model of the Prophet's 10-year truce with the tribes of seventh century Arabia. "Anyone who thinks Hamas will change is wrong," said supreme leader Khaled Mashal in 2006. Could he be any clearer?

No!
