Hamas Leaders Cowering in Hospital Built by Israel

Middle East • Views: 2,850

Two weeks into the Gaza conflict, the brave jihadi warriors of Hamas are cowering like rats in the basement of a hospital rebuilt by Israel.

Senior Hamas officials in Gaza are hiding out in a “bunker” built by Israel, intelligence officials suspect: Many are believed to be in the basements of the Shifa Hospital complex in Gaza City, which was refurbished during Israel’s occupation of the Gaza Strip. …

During a cabinet meeting a week ago, Shin Bet chief Yuval Diskin said senior Hamas officials found refuge in the hospital basement because they know Israel would not target it, due to the patients in the upper floors. Palestinian sources told Haaretz that not all the senior Hamas leaders are hiding in one place.

Rather, they have spread out, and some are constantly changing locations. Some of the bunkers they are using were linked by tunnels Hamas built in recent years.

Hamas knows a good thing when they see it. They see hospitals as bunkers to prevent their capture or death from above. They know Israel would not purposefully attack a hospital. They exploit Israel's humanity to further their own genocidal ambitions.

Meanwhile, my comments from the past few days bear repeating: where are the reporters and stringers in Gaza who had been busy taking photos of Mads Gilbert and others at Shifa Hospital to report on who's at the hospital, Hamas on the payroll, and other irregularities that show the depravities Hamas carries out on a regular basis? I'll answer my own question - they can't, because they'll lose their access, or their lives should they report the facts from that hospital.

33 Jetpilot1101  Tue, Jan 13, 2009 8:24:40am

57 lawhawk  Tue, Jan 13, 2009 8:30:30am

Oh, and UNRWA bears culpability for this situation as well:

Does UNRWA provide protection to Palestine refugees?

Protection is what UNRWA does to safeguard and advance the rights of Palestine refugees. In particular, UNRWA promotes respect for Palestine refugees’ rights through monitoring, reporting and intervention; delivers its services in a manner that promotes and respects the rights of beneficiaries; and ensures that protection needs are addressed in all aspects of programming, policies and procedures.

Apparently none of UNRWA's officials on the ground seem to notice that Hamas has coopted their operations, openly operates in UNRWA refugee camps, using Palestinians as human shields, and is running up a body count right under UNRWA noses, despite UNRWA pledges to protect and advance the rights of Palestinian refugees. It's a most curious way that UNRWA safeguards and advances the rights of those refugees; by supporting, condoning, and looking the other way as Hamas and other terrorist groups use the UNRWA as cover to carry out attacks against Israel.

The UNRWA mandate expires in 2011, and they think that it should be extended further. It should end. UNRWA has been one of the biggest reasons that the conflict persists; it fosters an environment that Hamas and other terrorists exploit, and a welfare class that knows of nothing else but handouts. The definition of refugee is such that grandchildren and great grandchildren of those who live in the camps are considered refugees, despite the fact that all that they've known is living in the camps because Palestinians refuse to settle in Gaza or the West Bank where they have civil administrative control.

It should be mentioned, this is yet another Hamas violation of the Geneva Conventions.

And we should also note that international consensus is now that terrorists and "non-state actors" now get the same Geneva Convention protections as state combatants but are not otherwise subject to its terms. So the US is wrong to operate Gitmo and Hamas leadership will never go to The Hague (except to testify against Israelis and Americans).

In my opinion, the only thing that separates Palestinians is whether they are Christians or Muslims (because the whole world has forgotten anyway that there were Palestinian Jews). If they are Palestinian Muslims, it really doesn't matter to which party they pledge allegience because the aims of Fatah and Hamas are actually remarkably similar (ie: Death to the Juice)! It's just a matter of 'who will give me more aid', and 'who is less likely to throw me off a building', or 'who will pay me more to sacrifice my children'.

The contract for UNWRA ought to be cancelled straightaway - if not for all the reasons you mentioned, then for one very simple and ahrd-nosed one: in the time of credit crunch and recessions worldwide, its a shocking waste of meny which should no longer be made available.
Palestinian refugees have had more monetary support from the UN than Africa - and they had three times as much money as the Marshall Aid given to Europe after WWII.

The sad thing is that, thanks to the incredibly biased reporting in the MFM, people have swallowed the 'Israel kills children and women'-meme, for years.

It will take more than a report by Totten, and mroe than all the IDF videos, to convince the unthinking other wise, especially as these videos are studiously overlooked by the MFM.

I recommend Aaron Cohen's book 'Brotherhood of Warriors' - which I put up in the 'Books'-spin-offs yesterday.
Having read that, I'm sure they will deal with this quietly, efficiently and without mess - unforseeable accidents always excepted.

If Hamas blows the hospital, the IDF will have evidence that it was indeed Hamas and not the IDF.

That's kind of what I was thinking. It's not like there is any actual physical trait or characteristic that one could use to identify one from the other. Just ideology that is pretty much ...all the same.

Hamas on Monday raided some 100 aid trucks that Israel had allowed into Gaza, stole their contents and sold them to the highest bidders.

The IDF said that since terminal activity is coordinated with UNRWA and the Red Cross, Israel could do nothing to prevent such raids, Israel Radio reported.

Between 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the army had ceased all military activity in Gaza and once again established a “humanitarian corridor” to help facilitate the transfer of the supplies.

The Kerem Shalom and Karni crossings had been opened to allow in the aid trucks.

It's a great concept, but a) how do you get get people to view the documentation because you know damn well the MSM will not print or show any evidence damaging to Hamas, and b) how do you get the public to accept the truth of what they are seeing? Quite frankly, I would expect most liberals and Pali-supporters to claim that the evidence is forged.

doesnt matter....just do it and see what happens...there is nothing to lose...the IDF can deal with Hamas and the building several ways....the idea is to try and expose some hypocricy here...nothing venture nothing gained

I guess it shouldn't be a surprise but Time Magazine is acting as chief propaganda officer for Hamas. Note that the Ha'aretz article reports:

The Israeli civil administration in the territories constructed the hospital complex's Building Number 2, which has a large cement basement that housed the hospital's laundry and various administrative services.

Now here's Time's Tim McGirk:

Israeli military officials allege that at the start of the conflict, Hamas' commanders took refuge in the basement of Gaza's main hospital, Shifa, knowing that Israel would never risk the international outrage that would result from bombing a hospital. But Shifa's director, Dr. Hussain Ashaur, denied the allegation and allowed TIME to tour the basement, which was teeming with patients waiting for X-rays and ultrasounds. "Every room was busy with patients and doctors. It always is," said TIME's Azmy Keshawi.

Two things.

1) Ha'aretz describes it as a "hospital complex." In contrast Time's Hamas shill "toured the basement." A complex suggests more than one building. Clearly Time's shill was shown a single basement, not all the basements.
2) Ha'aretz reported that the basement of the building in question was populated with laundries and administrative offices. Time's shill talks about patients waiting for X-rays and ultrasounds. Clearly we're not talking about the same basement.

I'd add that in the Ha'aretz article, "Palestinian sources" don't contradict Diskin's charge, they qualify it and say the Hamas leaders were moving around.

Hamas played a shell game with Time and won.

Clinton outlines her diplomatic philosophy today

Borrowing a phrase meant to signal a move away from the militarization of U.S. foreign policy, Clinton said, "We must use what has been called `smart power,' the full range of tools at our disposal. With `smart power,' diplomacy will be the vanguard of foreign policy."

If anyone is curious, she is using a Buzz Word coined by the Center for Stategic and International Studies.

If you want an idea of what that will mean in the future, I suggest you study what they have on the web site.

I doubt they will mention anything about charitable contributions, however.

Police on Monday morning detained a 15-year-old youth from Kalansuwa, an Arab Israeli village in the center of the country, on suspicion of murdering his 20-year-old sister for 'violating' the family's honor.

The arrest took place after the father of the family called the police station in Taibe and said "my son murdered his sister", according to police reports.

3. Ambulances used for terrorist thug transport, operations, weapon carriers, thug protection as mobile shields.

4. Schools used as arsenals, military operations and rocket attacks.

5. News media used routinely for propaganda through staged theatrics.

6. Hospitals and suffering patients used as human shields and hospitals used as 'defensive' bunkers.

7. Ridiculously labeled 'defensive' tunnels used for anything and everything offensive other than defense.

...and still BHO wants to have a sit-down with them...unfortunately, Hamas has seized this grossly stupid statement by Obama and run with it by offering a pre-condition for our next ruler...Obama must first deny and/or condemn Israel before the sit-down can commence...pre-conditions dictated by a terrorist organization to the next POTUS who was so naive as to think his words will not be used against him, the office of the POTUS the USA and actually the free world...dude's an idiot folks...are we surprised yet?

The Hamas leaders have been passing out paychecks at these supposed hospital complexes. The buildings in Gaza all connect together by either above ground encasement structures or by below ground basements with tunnels. The Hamas leaders are getting in and out of there by tunnels which connect the complex structures underground. Those that have been in the hospital waiting for above ground transport, are probably posing as hospital "medical helpers" and if that doesn't work, they can always wrap them up as
"dead" and haul them out in the ambulances back to the border. The fact that supplies and UN money are still being allowed into Gaza, tells me this is going to be a prolonged war.

She's surprisingly good. So far the character seems to be an honest person trying to do her job. Of course, in 24-world, that could mean she's the mastermind of the entire Sangalese rebellion.

Get me Sisko. He'd beam out the patients, then blow the crap out the enemy. Or get Picard, tell him that the hospital is the Borg, and he'd level it without hesitation.

The problem with Picard is that if they weren't Borg he'd try to understand them first. Very French, really.

Kirk would tell the Hamassholes there is a press conference nearby, and when they come out with their human shields to show off all the terrible things the Israelis did, he'd set phasers on stun over the whole area, and then get out the hostages. The rest would vaporized.

I need some advice. Is it really, really bad of me to hope that Washington DC gets hit with some extremely heavy snow and ice accumulations before and during the Chosen One's inauguration? I mean, blizzard conditions, zero-visibility, nothing moving, everyone (safely) stuck inside, etc. The power stays on and this condition only lasts a couple of days (if that long) on either side of the date, no major fatalities (you know there are going to be a few dummies that go out and get themselves killed through their own stupidity, but then they likely voted for The One...). So, does wishing, hoping, praying for this make me a bad guy? B-D

Nope, not wishing for that at all. But you know that if a storm of that magnitude hit a major metropolitan area, there are going to be at least a few deaths that will be attributable to the weather. I certainly would not ever want to have a roof that was overburdened with snow collapse on a group of folks assembled below it or anything else catastrophic like that. I was thinking "Darwin Award" candidates; you know where you have those incidents where chuckleheads that decide that a major storm is a cool time to go out, get likkered up to go do donuts in the car, get wrapped around a telephone pole somewhere and I don't even want that to happen! MSNBC has an interesting report about 10 conflicts that get short shrift in the press (who else to blame but the media itself for ignoring these conflicts and their underlying causes), but the MSNBC report omits three other conflicts, and it's curious as to which ones and why:

The Thai Islamist Insurgency; The Pakistan/India Border; MILF Insurgency in the Philippines.

The common thread? Islamic jihad and the fight to establish Islamic regimes.

I actually think his presidency could be one of the most "representative" of the will of the people. I fully expect him to go in whatever direction the popular wind is blowing, buffeted about by polls. And, of course, he'll bend over for the dem leadership in congress.

Another lizard correctly pointed out that, due to his very quick rise & lack of exposure in the political arena, Obama is incredibly naive. Whether or not he ever figures out who holds what agenda (& I include pollsters) is going to be fascinating.

It should be mentioned, this is yet another Hamas violation of the Geneva Conventions.

Good point, except that Hamas is not a signatory. You see, Israel is obligated to honor the rules but Hamas isn't. This, even though the GC does not require a nation to do so when fighting a non-signatory. You know, just as the US is when fighting AQ.

The list so far;

1. Innocent women and children used as human shields.

2. Mosques used for shields, hiding, weapons storage and base-of-operation attacks.

Two more;

8. Zoo booby-trapped by Hamas.

9. Schools booby-trapped by Hamas.

You want hotspots that Obama will have to deal with in coming years? There's your hotspots.

Some thoughts on Sri Lanka and the Tamil separatists by Yaacov Lozowick. One of his implicit points is that the MSM critique Israel because they can with no real risk. Other conflicts involve real risk and thus won't get outside observers willing to risk their necks to tell the story. But a ticket to the Middle East is a low risk assignment and since it involves seeing shades of grey - even when things are black and white - there's plenty of glory, adulation and book deals available when the tour is done.

I was always under the impression that 'winning' to people like Hamas and Hezbollah just meant not being totally annihilated. If there were 100 of them and 99 were killed, that one that was left would declare victory simply because he was still alive.

Publicity Rules:
1) If even one lives, it a Hamas victory.
2) If they all die, it's a massacre by Israel.

Instead, two parents with an injured kid were paraded on camera, but even so thay said that the Israeli airstrike that injured their son was on a rocket launcher that Hamas had set up near their home.

Just a few musings of a weak mind. I gave birth to three children. I raised them to be upright, loving, responsible people who would be an asset to society. I cannot fathom giving birth so that my children would die for all the wrong reasons. I find myself at a loss here. I do not hate the people in Gaza and the West Bank, I have absolutely no feelings towards them at all. When I see the dead, both adults and children, displayed on video I only think that at least they cannot kill more Jews. To me these people are worse than animals. Animals kill for food, these cretins kill for sport. Like I said, just musing here.

Sirhan Sirhan was raised as a Christian, and although not a 'Palestinian' so too was the infamous Edward Said. Many of those involved in the early PLO were not Muslim as well. Christian or Muslim doesn't really matter in terms of being complicit in the Jihad, since it is culturally pervasive.

Even if the Muslim/Christian designation mattered in terms of who was an enemy of Israel (and just about everyone else) or not, you also have to keep in mind that in that region being a Muslim is simply a matter of who your father was, and that Gaza specifically is largely run by barbaric theocrats, so it is always questionable who is actually Muslim in the first place. It isn't as if it is a conscious choice to be a Muslim or not for most of the Arabs living there.

425 Arbalest  Tue, Jan 13, 2009 10:44:13am

What are the chances that the IDF is about to stage a Reverse Entebbe?

It shouldn’t be too hard to have 4 or 5 “ambulances” with 3 or 4 “wounded” arrive, followed by several carloads of “grieving relatives” show up at the hospital, perhaps infiltrate into the ER, seize the various basement access points, replace the staff (evacuated for questioning) to maintain care of the patients while also evacuating them.

Maintaining the fiction of ongoing hospital operations might give them a chance to seize the Hamas warriors. Having a couple of infantry platoons nearby and ready, and one of erkavas seems a prudent option.

As Hamas is known to use suicide bombers, all seized would have to be stripped down to their sandals and jocks.

I’d pay money to see them then led out of the hospital.

If they're down there, the tunnels are likely to be heavily booby-trapped. Beter just to pump in some cyanide gas or something than to risk IDF lives.

Point well taken.

But, given the profile of the last several days of fighting, and the bravery for which the Hamas leadership is well known (at the first sonic boom ot tank rumble, lose bowel control, scream like a little girl, then run, while the new teenage recruits stay and die), I’m betting that they have no booby-traps at all.

Such things would be too close and interfere with a hasty exit.

Stop sending Israel bombs! Send them instead as many skunks needed to toss into the basements of that hospital and elsewhere to flush Hamas out.

Yeah, yeah. I know that would draw in PETA babes to pose as nakid human shields but at least that would improve morale all around.
