I knew CNN was just sticking it in blogger's faces.

They are now showing a video from World News and Features [yes that one] that follows a Hamas Ambulance driver around.

They hear a boom and go to a "house" that has been struck by a "bomb".

They find a young child at home in his bed.

[the child is already in his sweater and street clothes]

The official Hamas tv station, whose website was registered by Ashraf Mashharawi is taken off the air in France.....
France pulls plug on Al-Aqsa TV broadcasts into Europe

The French broadcasting authority Conseil supérieur de l'audiovisuel (CSA) has issued a broadcast ban on Hamas’ television channel Al-Aqsa TV.

The order was carried out only 24 hours after Hamas announced on Monday that it would start airing programs to Europe from Wednesday via a Eurobird European telecoms satellite operated by Eutelsat, a Paris-based company governed by French law.

According to the gag order, France argued that Al-Aqsa TV incites hatred and violence, saying its broadcasts “violate article 15 of the French media law of 30 September 1986 which prohibits all forms of incitement to hatred or violence on the ground of race, religion or nationality.”

You and me both. I remember reading somewhere about Truman being mocked because he mispronounced words. A biographer (may have been Merle Miller) was researching in Independence MO, and checked the local library. He found that Harry Truman had checked out almost every book at one time or another.

He mispronounced words not because he didn't know them, and what they meant - he'd just never heard them spoken.

OT : The DailyKos mind slaves have been instructed to flood the "Best Science Blog" voting in order to prevent a "Global Warming Denier" from earning the distinction.

Please help counteract the effort.

Anthony Watts is a skeptic but relies on data and science to fuel his arguments rather than fabricated data, moralist claims and scare tactic "Hockey Sticks".

So far, the AGW mind hive has yet to produce a predictive theory yet maintains "the debate is over". Help the cause of skepticism and repel the politicization of science - select WattsUpWithThat.com for best science blog.

When one considers the fact that we don't get this kind of perspective reported much anyways, I'm not complaining about his style. He is a representative of the common citizen of America, trying to give a first hand account of what Israelis are experiencing. Erdogan said his criticism did not stem from anti-Semitism and emphasized that in the past he had termed anti-Semitism a crime against humanity.

But he then continued to say that "media outlets supported by Jews are disseminating false reports on what happens in Gaza, finding unfounded excuses to justify targeting of schools, mosques and hospitals."

I suppose he meant to say "Dem Jews"./

Well, personally I don't want to see Joe with a boob job, so is that okay? ;)

An excellent note. Personally, I don't care how someone looks. But when someone speaks there is an expectation they be able to articulate. Every time someone says "uh" "uhm", etc. They are taking a second away from the message, they are also rendering the message incoherent as it does break up the speech. But as I said earlier, all he needs is a little polishing (not his head, though) and his speech will improve. This just takes a little practice to know what questions you want to ask. Once he gains that level of confidence I'm sure the imperfections will be smoothed out.

I honestly wish him the best of luck. I want to see him succeed.

Heh. When I was stationd in Germany in the early 90s we had a Wing Commander who was a bit gung ho and used to tell us to "suck it up" when we were ın saudi. Anyhow, afriend of mine who was a dental tech gave him a shot of saline instead of novocaine when he came in to get a filling done. All the "show backbone" and "stick it out" bullshit came back to haunt him when he started moaning from the chair. Eventually, my friend did have mercy and gave him a shot. AND if I can add my two cents (I see I am late4, there is another topic!) BUT this guy has to be given lots of credit for being fast on his feet.

Most journalists have teleprompters and other cues that are more sophisticated than leading questions that he had in this interview. He is thrown into a totally foreign place, with tons going on.

I LOVED how he dealt with that other reporter on the most fundamental of issues. What do the Israelis do for people, even in land they give up to others, and what does Hamas do with it - who creates and who destroys?

I am so thrilled he's there and reporting what he sees. Waiting for his next report!

161 MJBrutus  Tue, Jan 13, 2009 11:24:55am

Alright, I have to admit that JTP is winning me over. He's growing on me because of the way he places in perspective what conditions are like there by pointing out how intolerable it would be for Americans to have to live like the Israelis do in these conditions.

For example when he talks about how, as a parent, he considers it absurd to have to teach his children to duck in to the cement playground caterpillar for safety from rocket attacks. We would not put up with it, and hopefully Americans who see that will agree that they wouldn't put up with it and demand our government to respond with overwhelming force to end such threats.

I wouldn't want Joe's opinions on how to negotiate a peace or what to do about the Israeli settlements, etc, but I do welcome his comments about peoples' day to day lives during this conflict.

I think that we are at the point where unconsciously masculine behavior or mannerisms--unselfconscious and unapologetic--appears almost aberrant.

I'm not talking about bravado, overweening machismo, or braggadocio; I'm talking about someone who, like John Wayne or Robert Mitchum or Bogart at his best merely were who they were without fifteen-seconds spotchecks and second-guesses for "sensitivity."

Joe appears to have that quality, to some degree. And it is that, I believe, that people respond to.

I absolutely agree. The metrosexuals have taken over the TV. It is so refreshing to a normal man, like Joe, giving a report, especially one that makes sense and is visually interesting as well.

Joe is seeking in Israel the perspective of...
What is it like to be a civilian in Israel, fighting a war against an enemy, Hamas, that has sought to destroy Israel.
He is bringing and reporting his feelings as a temporary civilian in Israel, who is an American. We share the same philosophy of democracy in the USA as in Israel.

182 zelnaga  Tue, Jan 13, 2009 2:23:36pm

I think some of the reason there may be some disdain for Joe the Plumber is jealousy. "If Joe the Plumber is supposed to be just like me", some people are no doubt thinking, "why is it that it's him - and not me - who's in receipt of all this media attention?"

These same people likely don't get mad at traditional journalists, with their Yale or Harvard education, or whatever, because traditional journalists aren't like them, anyway. You can dismiss a traditional journalists success because they do come from families affluent enough to send them to Ivy league schools, but you can't do that for Joe the Plumber.

183 Bogeyfre  Tue, Jan 13, 2009 3:30:57pm

I think some of the reason there may be some disdain for Joe the Plumber is jealousy. "If Joe the Plumber is supposed to be just like me", some people are no doubt thinking, "why is it that it's him - and not me - who's in receipt of all this media attention?"

Or maybe, as in my opinion, he's just not up to the job.

Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of citizen journalism and of having an "everyman" on the ground to offer a unique filter, but as much as I like the concept, I thought Joe stunk.

I just love Joe the plumber (and, no its not because I have the same moniker on LGF as him) and think he is extremely courageous to do what he is doing, i.e. standing up for Israel when all the other MSM keeps dumping sh.. on it. Many of us dream of doing what he is doing... but few of us actually have the guts and gumptions to follow up on these dreams. As for Joe's unpolished news reports, all I can say is that I prefer them anyday to the erudite garbage that the rest of the MSM regularly spews out. I loved the way he turned the tables in the interview by the dhimmi European reporter.

Mambo: let us know when your 15-minutes arrive, willya?

It already happened. About 15 years ago, by freak chance, I got to play bass at a large private party with Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart of Rush fame. We played La Villa Strangiato and YYZ. For the rest of the night I was a bona fide rock star. That was it. Whew! I still get shivers thinking about that.

I'm glad I didn't try to pretend I was a real rock star...that would have been banal and embarrassing.

You can have all the guts and gumptions in the world and it won't matter unless you also have the opportunity. Joe the plumber was very fortunate to be living in a swing state and to be, just coincidentally, playing football with his son while Obama was in his neighborhood. If you don't live in a swing state, however, you'll likely never have a major presidential candidate in your neighborhood. Ever. And, I think, ultimately, all of Joe the plumber's recent success can be traced back to that one event. If it weren't for that, he wouldn't have been featured on a bunch of TV networks and I doubt he'd be in Israel, now.

Personally, I don't think I have the guts or gumptions to ask a presidential candidate what Joe did of Obama, but even if I did, it wouldn't matter, as I doubt I'd ever be in that kind of a position, anyway.

Incidentally, when do we stop calling him Joe the plumber and when do we start calling him Joe the journalist, or whatever?
