Democrats seek criminal probe of Bush 'abuses'
The incoming Obama administration should launch a criminal investigation of Bush administration officials to see whether they broke the law in the name of national security, a House Democratic report said Tuesday. President-elect Barack Obama has been more cautious on the issue and has not endorsed such a recommendation.
Along with the criminal probe, the report called for a Sept. 11-style commission with subpoena power, to gather facts and make recommendations on preventing misuse of power, according to the report by the Democratic staff of the House Judiciary Committee.

God said to Moses. Ok, I want you to build and ark so many cubits long and so many cubits wide and then go collect all the animals of the earth in pairs, two by two, and bring them to the ark and put them on the ark and then you and you family enter the ark, shut the door and it will rain for 40 days, and the ark will float apon the waters and you will be saved. On the 40th day, you will release a dove and it will show you where the dry land is.
Moses: Sure Lord I go collect all the animals of the earth in pairs, two by two, and bring them to the ark and put them on the ark and then you and you family enter the ark, shut the door and it will rain for 40 days, and the ark will float apon the waters and you will be saved. Cameras (plural) and mike are not in the same location. How close together is anybody's guess.
The "rooster" microphone is near a roadway, and near a door. I've heard a sound exactly like that made by a screen door -- a few days ago, multiple times, in conjuction with men's voices.

Part I
Today, I received the most moving email from the president of the Shalem institute:
We Jews Love Life: A Tribute to Dvir Emanuelof
January 12, 2009
Israel is a small country, but when it goes to war, the front is extraordinarily broad. On Sunday of last week, it reached “Gan Dalia,” the kindergarten my five-year-old son David attends in the Ramot neighborhood of Jerusalem. That morning, officers of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) came looking for veteran head teacher Dalia Emanuelof. She was off that day, so they continued searching elsewhere, ultimately waiting outside her home in the nearby suburb of Givat Ze’ev until she returned that afternoon.
The news the officers brought was unbearable: Her 22-year-old son, Dvir, had been killed in Jabalya, making him the first Israeli casualty of the ground campaign in Gaza. Fighting there as a staff sergeant in his infantry unit, the elite Golani brigade, he was felled by Hamas mortar fire. Though Israel has a conscript army, Dvir did not have to be in Gaza, as he had received high marks as instructor of a squad leader course, was asked to go to officer school, and would still have been in training had he accepted; he deferred, however, saying he would not be fit to command until he had first fought alongside his comrades. In fact, Dvir did not have to be in any front-line position: His father Netanel had died of cancer at age 46, shortly before Dvir’s service began; as an only son in a single-parent family, Dvir was exempt under IDF rules from combat duty. Before accepting him to Golani, his commanding officer visited Dalia and asked if she acquiesced in her son’s opting for a dangerous path he was not obligated to choose. Her answer: “If this is how Dvir wants to serve his country, then this is what he will do.” Two days before entering Gaza, Dvir had called home and said: “Mom, I have to fight. I have to be there.” He went, and he fought—and was buried on Sunday night in the Mount Herzl military cemetery in Jerusalem.
A few days later, I was thinking about Dvir as I prepared to speak at an Israel solidarity rally at the Ramaz high school in Manhattan. I opened by talking about Dvir’s words to his mother, and then explained why he had to fight—that is, why Israel had no choice but to wage war to stop Hamas from firing missiles at homes and schools in Sderot and other cities in the country’s south. After describing Israel’s war aims, I addressed the issue on the minds of these morally sensitive young people: How we could be sure that, in the pursuit of moral ends, Israel was using moral means? I stressed the lengths to which the IDF goes to protect Palestinian civilians, and contrasted it with Hamas’s systematic strategy of using non-combatants—women, children, even hospital patients—as “human shields,” to prevent the Israeli army from attacking its fighters or to saddle the Jewish state with the blame for the civilians who are killed.

Part II
Afterwards, I fielded questions from seniors in one of Ramaz’s honors classes, of which the most difficult was posed by an earnest young woman named Julie. She accepted that Israel was right to launch an offensive and was fighting in accordance with the dictates of morality, but was deeply concerned about the outcome: If Hamas was eager for Palestinian non-combatants to be killed, while the IDF did its best to prevent such casualties, how could Israel hope to win? Either the Israeli army would be deterred from landing the blows needed to defeat Hamas, or Israel would end up killing large numbers of civilians and be forced by international pressure to accept a cease-fire prematurely—which would be perceived as a Hamas victory, on the model of Hizbollah’s “triumph by surviving” in the Second Lebanon War. She offered a chillingly apt understanding of the statement made in 2004 by Hizbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah and later echoed by many Hamas leaders: “We have discovered how to hit the Jews where they are the most vulnerable….We are going to win, because they love life and we love death.” Nasrallah had meant that the Jews loved their own lives while Muslim radicals embraced death in the pursuit of jihad, but in Gaza, it turned out that Jews also cared more for the lives of Arab civilians than did the leaders of Hamas. I answered, haltingly, on the level of tactics, pointing out that the IDF’s detailed intelligence and precise execution enabled it to limit the bulk of Palestinian casualties to Hamas fighters, and that international condemnation of Israel has been kept in check by widespread revulsion at the use of human shields.
The question was still on my mind when I landed at Ben-Gurion Airport the next morning and headed to a shiva visit at the Emanuelofs. The first floor was overflowing with well-wishers, some sitting and most standing, centered around Dalia, her three daughters, and the general in charge of Israel’s ground forces, Avi Mizrahi, who in an extraordinary gesture of respect was making a condolence visit in the midst of war. Due to his rare combination of gentleness and determination, he became, with Dalia, the center of attention, and the two engaged in a dialogue interspersed with occasional comments from Dalia’s eldest daughter, Hadas, who got married less than a year ago and was visibly pregnant with the family’s first grandchild

Part III
From this dialogue, an extraordinary portrait emerged of Dvir—a modest, idealistic young man who was a leader in the Bnei Akiva youth movement, delighted in taking his friends on hikes throughout Israel, and could never be found without his trademark smile, which radiated out from his sparkling eyes and lit up everyone around him—a point amply attested to in the photos displayed in the Emanuelofs’ home. He loved life, with a passion, but was willing to risk his own because he felt a sense of mission to protect Israelis living in the country’s south. Dalia, too, was heroic in her own, quiet way. On her face and in her voice one could discern profound sadness, but also pride in her son and the army in which he served, and resolve that Israel must continue to fight until victory. One could also detect a spirit of hope, bordering on faith, that her people would triumph—and that, as Jews traditionally say, Netzach Yisrael lo yishaker, the Eternal One of Israel will not fail us.
Equally extraordinary was the picture Dalia painted of the support her family had received. She spoke of two teenage girls who came to her home, and when asked how they had known Dvir, answered that they had never met him but identified with the family’s tragedy and wanted to give whatever comfort they could; of a middle-aged man who said only, ‘I’m a citizen of Israel, and I came to be with you, as a representative of all of Israel’s citizens;’ of an elderly gentleman who walked in leaning on a cane, and declared: “I heard that a Golanchik (young Golani soldier) in your family was killed; I fought in Golani in the War of Independence in 1948, and have come to offer my condolences.” She described a phone call from a woman she didn’t know, who had just had a grandson and wanted permission to name him Dvir. Dalia assented, but urged that he be given a second name, as Jewish tradition says that in calling someone after a person who has suffered an unfortunate fate, one should make this change to symbolize the hope for better fortune. The grandmother answered that the boy’s name would be Dvir Chai—“Dvir lives.” And Dalia concluded the story: “A few days after my son had been killed, I could already say again, ‘Dvir lives.’”

Part IV
At one point, Dalia turned to General Mizrahi and asked why Israel could not fight in Gaza the way coalition forces have in Iraq and Afghanistan—bombing aggressively against enemy fighters in populated areas. There was no bitterness in her voice at the IDF for having endangered her son’s life by its regard for Palestinian civilians, nor any desire for revenge—only the concerned tones of an Israeli mother anxious to protect the sons of other Israeli mothers. The general answered thoughtfully, but without hesitation, that the IDF had gone to greater lengths to protect its soldiers in Gaza than in previous conflicts, citing the week-long air campaign that preceded the ground invasion. He added, however, that the IDF’s strength is integrally tied to maintaining its humanity and morality. Soldiers are united in part because they know that regardless of religious or political differences, they share a common moral code. Alluding to the widely-held view that Hamas’s military leadership is hiding under Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, he said that he wouldn’t give an order to bomb the hospital from the air, because there are certain things one simply doesn’t do. This is an obligation, he stressed, that the IDF has as a Jewish army. From the reactions in the room, it was clear that while everyone identified with Dalia’s question, they accepted the answer—and were impressed that the officer used this opportunity to reinforce the Jewish values binding all of us together.
As I left to return home before the start of the Sabbath, I understood the answer to the question I had been asked by a young woman 6,000 miles away. Yes, on the tactical level it can be a handicap to love life when your opponent loves death. But in the end, it is that love of life that will enable us to prevail. We will defeat those who love death, because we love life so much that we Israelis—from teenage girls to senior officers in wartime—know how to give comfort to those who have lost a loved one, and to say, “We are with you.” Our love of life enables us to confront tragedy, and emerge with the pride and resolve, the hope and the faith, that Dalia showed.
We love life so much that we educate our children to love life, though surrounded by enemies who hope, pray, and work for our deaths. It is this love of life that enabled the Jews to return to our homeland and rebuild a state after 2,000 years, and it is the sense of mission stemming from this love that will sustain the Zionist dream long into the future. We love life so much that we refuse to have our sense of morality dulled by enemies who seek to force us to kill women and children in order to defend our families. Though our principles limit the IDF’s effectiveness, they provide us with intangibles that more than compensate—the confidence and the strength to pursue our aims secure in the knowledge we are acting justly, and the unity that comes from a society acting in accordance with its most cherished values. And yes, let no one err, we will win because we love life so much we are willing to brave death, if necessary, to ensure that our people can lead free lives in the country we have established against all odds. In the end, it is this love of life that will enable us to prevail—not only in the war in Gaza, but in all the challenges we face in the years and generations to come.

Racer X Tue, Jan 13, 2009 6:01:33pm |
A wealthy man and his son loved to collect rare works of art. They had everything in their collection, from Picasso to Raphael. They would often sit together and admire the great works of art.
When the Vietnam conflict broke out, the son went to war. He was very courageous and died in battle while rescuing another soldier. The father was notified and grieved deeply for his only son.
About a month later, just before Christmas, there was a knock at the door. A young man stood at the door with a large package in his hands.
He said, 'Sir, you don't know me, but I am the soldier for whom your son gave his life. He saved many lives that day, and he was carrying me to safety when a bullet struck him in the heart and he died instantly. He often talked about you, and your love for art.' The young man held out this package. 'I know this isn't much. I'm not really a great artist, but I think your son would have wanted you to have this.'
The father opened the package. It was a portrait of his son, painted by the young man. He stared in awe at the way the soldier had captured the personality of his son in the painting. The father was so drawn to the eyes that his own eyes welled up with tears. He thanked the young man and offered to pay him for the picture. 'Oh, no sir, I could never repay what your son did for me. It's a gift.'
The father hung the portrait over his mantle. Every time visitors came to his home he took them to see the portrait of his son before he showed them any of the other great works he had collected.
The man died a few months later. There was to be a great auction of his paintings. Many influential people gathered, excited over seeing the great paintings and having an opportunity to purchase one for their collection.
On the platform sat the painting of the son. The auctioneer pounded his gavel. 'We will start the bidding with this picture of the son. Who will bid for this picture?'
There was silence.
Then a voice in the back of the room shouted, 'We want to see the famous paintings. Skip this one.'
But the auctioneer persisted. 'Will somebody bid for this painting. Who will start the bidding? $100, $200?'
Another voice angrily. 'We didn't come to see this painting. We came to see the Van Gogh's, the Rembrandt's. Get on with the real bids!'
But still the auctioneer continued. 'The son! The son! Who'll take the son?'
Finally, a voice came from the very back of the room. It was the longtime gardener of the man and his son. 'I'll give $10 for the painting.' Being a poor man, it was all he could afford.
'We have $10, who will bid $20?'
'Give it to him for $10. Let's see the masters.'
'$10 is the bid, won't someone bid $20?'
The crowd was becoming angry. They didn't want the picture of the son. They wanted the more worthy investments for their collections.
The auctioneer pounded the gavel. 'Going once, twice, SOLD for $10!'
A man sitting on the second row shouted, 'Now let's get on with the collection!'
The auctioneer laid down his gavel. 'I'm sorry, the auction is
over.'
'What about the paintings?'
'I am sorry. When I was called to conduct this auction, I was told of a secret stipulation in the will. I was not allowed to reveal that stipulation until this time. Only the painting of the son would be auctioned. Whoever bought that painting would inherit the entire estate, including the paintings.
The man who took the son gets everything!'
God gave His son 2,000 years ago to die on the cross. Much like the auctioneer, His message today is: 'The son, the son, who'll take the son?'

Walter, you've got Moses in there. If he built an ark, there is no record of it.
Actually Moses did build an ark, just not the first one. Noah's ark was the one that sailed for a few months. Moses' ark was the one that held the tablets and some manna, and a flowering branch IIRC, and was first placed in the tabernacle and then in the Temple in the Holy of Holies.

Actually Moses did build an ark, just not the first one. Noah's ark was the one that sailed for a few months. Moses' ark was the one that held the tablets and some manna, and a flowering branch IIRC, and was first placed in the tabernacle and then in the Temple in the Holy of Holies.
/ and that is about the extent of my knowledge of such stuff. ;)

Last night, I posted an observation that, according to Jonah Goldberg, both Mussolini and FDR essentially said, "Vote for me now, and I'll come up with a plan later." I thought that sounded a lot like Obama.
Heh. James Taranto agrees. (Top item)
We were a bit startled by the Puffington Host email that hit our box late yesterday afternoon, bearing the headline "Obama Preparing Order to Close Guantanamo in First Week." The link went to an Associated Press story, of which we'll quote a longer version:
President-elect Barack Obama is preparing to issue an executive order his first week in office--and perhaps his first day--to close the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, according to two presidential transition team advisers. But the PuffHo headline--which has since been changed on the Web site, turned out to be a gross exaggeration, and the lead overstates the case too, as the second paragraph makes clear:
It's unlikely the detention facility at the Navy base in Cuba will be closed anytime soon. In an interview last weekend, Obama said it would be "a challenge" to close it even within the first 100 days of his administration. But the order, which one adviser said could be issued as early as Jan. 20, would start the process of deciding what to do with the estimated 250 al-Qaida and Taliban suspects and potential witnesses who are being held there.
Wow, on his very first day in office Obama is going to issue a directive starting the process of deciding what to do. That's the kind of bold leadership America has been hankering for, lo these eight awful years!
Definitely go read the whole thing. :)

Cubit is a measurement from a different time -- before standardization. It is (the common version) the distance from the elbow to the end of the middle finger. That will be different for different people, of course. It was good enough for the time -- they weren't mass producing anything, so precision wasn't an issue.

Wash. Court: Teachers can have sex with 18-year-olds
State law does not bar teachers from having sex with 18-year-old students.
That's the decision of a three-judge panel of the Washington Court of Appeals, which on Tuesday ordered the dismissal of a case brought against Hoquiam High School's former choir teacher.
Wash. court rules that truants entitled to lawyer
A panel of judges has apparently made Washington the first state to rule that juvenile students accused of chronically cutting classes in public schools are entitled to a lawyer in their first court hearing.
The Washington state Court of Appeals ruled Monday that denying a juvenile the right to a lawyer from the outset violated constitutional requirements.

I have a computer question for lizards out there.
I recently took my laptop to a computer geek place that I have used in thepast to do computer stuff. I wanted them to remove my media files, get rid of a virus I picked up, and then put the pics and stuff back on.
They called me a few weeks later saying the virus was gone, the settings were factory but they had "lost" all the media files and tried everything they could to retrieve them.
They didn't charge me anything, of course.
Now I'm installing antiviral software, and it is finding files that were "erased". I'm thinking those files are still there, they are just inaccessible. Anyone know how to reaccess them?

Posts by Charles can be up and downdinged, links (in the "top rated links" or Linkviewer, at the top) can also be up- or downdinged, and individual comments can be up or downdinged.

I'll be damned... the ICRC finds that the IDF wasn't using white phosphorus as the human rights groups were busy complaining - and that in fact Israel was complying with international conventions on weapons as they had been saying all along.
The International Committee of the Red Cross urged Israel to exercise "extreme caution" in using the incendiary agent, which is used to illuminate targets at night or create a smoke screen for day attacks, said Peter Herby, the head of the organization's mines-arms unit."In some of the strikes in Gaza it's pretty clear that phosphorus was used," Herby told The Associated Press. "But it's not very unusual to use phosphorus to create smoke or illuminate a target. We have no evidence to suggest it's being used in any other way."
The only evidence that it was being used in any other fashion was from self interested Palestinians who want to propagandize against Israel and human rights groups that have repeatedly bent over backwards to ignore Hamas violations of every international law on the book but attempt to hold Israel to a standard of international law that doesn't even exist.

But they did tell this whopping lie
Hamas's resumption of rocket attacks when a six-month truce ran out on Dec. 19.
The rockets only resumed on Dec 19th, after 6 months without Hamas rockets? I don't think so. Usually they write it so it isn't technically a lie, but just strongly implies the lie they want to tell.

At sunrise, they don't "fly" out of the tree. They spread their wings, and jump down. Float or glide is not the right word, and the sound they make when they hit the ground is straight out of the mental image we got on that WKRP infamous show.
They seem to fly faster than pheasants, that's for sure.

There's a rooster lives a life of danger
In Gaza he tries to stay out of range-er
With each crow he risks--you bet--
Being made into a croquette
Odds are he won't live to see tomorrow
He's the rooster jammed
By the Gaza-Cam
He's braved so many explosions
That he puts Hamas to shame
Swingin' through the Shifa tunnels one day
Crowin' on the rooftop "playground" the next day
At every dawn, he calls
"Hamasniks have no balls"
The odd thing is
they're more "chicken" than he is
[refrain]

If you choose to leave a downding, it helps the communication to leave a comment explaining that you think the posted article subject is boring, irritating, or enraging.
Indeed. I play a game for which I download user-made modifications. The site I download these files from lets you rate the files 1-10. You can ONLY leave a rating if you explain your reason for the rating. The same could be applied to the link-dings. I would only suggest making DOWN-dingers leave an explanation, and then only when dinging in the links-viewer. Updings are just kudos, and don't need explanation.

If you're a newbie, you may not have seen some of the flamewars of years past on LGF. I think the updings and downdings give people an outlet rather than an all-caps post. Hmmm. I wonder if Charles intended that. Anyway, can't take disagreement personally. Go ahead with the downding when you don't like what someone says. That said, I haven't used the downding yet. But I have called stinky for cleanups on comments that look really bad.
I view "dings" as a way to measure how my posts are received. In non-virtual, conversation, I can tell by people's facial expression or sounds they may make (a smile, or a groan). I also think that "Dings" work also to streamline threads because they are easier than short posts ("good one, dude" or "Not Funny").

re: #388 spirochete
What you ask is very complex..There are multiple answers depending on the facts on the ground..
First off..Windows doesn't really delete your files when it says it does..The trash can is only an icon..When a file is deleted windows puts a $ sign in front of the file name and the FAT tables get updated and told 'if you want to write crap here feel free' But because of drive usage windows will choose free space instead of marked sectors to write new data..Thus you can recover alot of deleted files..That's the readers digest version...It is esp. more complex esp. during a catastrophic failure or password protected files

Um, Mr. Buchanan, this isn't quite how I pictured a Blitzkrieg. Sounds more like some car alarms going off after a fly-by prior to a stadium event at best.
Pat Buchanan knows about as much about military history as he does about economics, science and theology, which is somewhere between diddly and squat.
Blitzkrieg is rapidly advancing mechanized forces with coordinted air cover penetrating the enemy's interior lines of communication and rendering them useless, thereby depriving the enemy the capacity to sustain a coordinated fight. The rear of the advancing force deals with the pockets of resistance, which tend to surrender en masse.
The US fights using Blitzkrieg as a matter of doctrine. Israel can't in Gaza (or refuses to) because its aim is not to hold land. Instead it is a police action in urban terrain, so they are selecting targets carefully and advancing infantry teams with specific "kill lists" in hand.
Pat Buchanan is a complete asshole that makes conservatism look stupid, as is Sean Hannity for giving him any credibility whatsoever.

re: #567 karmic_inquisitor
Pat Buchanan is a complete asshole that makes conservatism look stupid, as is Sean Hannity for giving him any credibility whatsoever.
well said with the tactics...more so at the last...Hannity is dirt

I do wish they'd get it straight. The Holocaust didn't happen, but they love Hitler and the Nazis for committing it; they use Nazi propaganda, cartoons, salutes, and march steps, but they condemn Jews for being Nazis.
Talk about your Moebius logic!
Indeed.
Arabs continually refer to Jews as Nazis, that Jews are engaging in genocide, Gaza is a concentration camp, using the words most associated with Nazism to describe Israel's defense against terrorism, etc.
I think it's time to call the Arab-think Hitlerian Jihad, because it combines the worst of both. Megalomaniacal devotion to killing Jews, and making the land red in blood. Hitler gave the jihadis something to strive for - annihilation of the Juice.

Wow! I just read a piece off of Drudge about the actor Mickey Rourke. Astounding! A hollywood actor who get's it:
"I don't give a f**k who's in office, Bush or whoever, there is no simple solution to this problem... I'm not one of those who blames Bush for everything. This s**t between Christians and Muslims goes back to the Crusades, doesn't it.
"It's too easy to blame everything on one guy. These are unpredictable, dangerous times, and I don't think that anyone really knows quite what to do."
Rourke also confesses he was so angry after 9/11, he wanted to fight the war on terror himself.
He adds, "I'm not politically educated. But I do know that after 9/11 I wanted to go over there, you know what I'm saying?"
And the star is baffled by the U.K.'s approach to fundamentalists - insisting he was taken aback by the freedom of speech allowed in the U.K.
He explains, "I was in London recently and I couldn't believe all these hate-talking fanatics you have over here who are allowed to carry on doing their thing even when a bus full of women and children gets blown to pieces.
"I know you've deported one or two of them, but it seems crazy. I think there is worse to come, something terrible will happen to either America or the U.K., or France even. I don't think these fundamentalists should be allowed to talk all this crap, and brainwashing these young kids."

No, there is method in their madness. They're starting to lay the groundwork to demanding (and getting) the sun, the moon, and the stars above as payback for what some of their ancestors did to other of their ancestors. keep an eye on it. This is going to get really interesting. Obama is going to have to try and jump through their hoops, but some of the Democrats in the House and Senate aren't going to like it one little bit.
Robert Byrd might even come out of retirement, and burn a cross for old time's sake.

I mean, seriously. Now they want to ban something which reminds them of some movie set in a particular time-period? These people are STARKERS.
I agree, it's not like they are wearing civil war uniforms and waving the stars and bars, the dresses are really quite pretty. If a black President elect does not see a connection, neither should the NAACP.

for the Gaza Rooster.
When the webcam first appeared, his voice was healthy and vibrant.
After 3 nights of steady bombing it is now sounding frail and weak and has dropped 1/3 of an octave. GAWD damn Israel I now have tears on my keyboard.
I think pilot-x is mocking them, because the rest of the posters on there are the "death to jews" type.

AVS Capture can grab videos from anywhere. Free to try - it's about 30 bucks, iirc, after the trial period.
Red Kawa downloads directly from youtube and converts to ipod format, which you can then play via itunes. It's shareware.
Are those for Mac?
I have a FireFox extension (Download Helper) that captures video from almost anywhere... and it's free!
But the vid has to be actually playing before it will begin the capture. Can't play/can't capture.
Will look into anyway...
Thanks.

Way ot (and nothing to do with roosters either) but still bleepin' important:
Feinstein's legislation to ban scalping of inaugural tickets fails in Senate.
So if your Senator "gives" you tickets, you can still legally sell them on ebay for 10K.
When scalping is outlawed, only outlaws will have scalps. Or something.

A SHORT LOVE STORY
A man and a woman who had never met before, but who were both married to other people,
found themselves assigned to the same sleeping room on a trans-continental train.
Though initially embarrassed and uneasy over sharing a room,
they were both very tired and fell asleep quickly, he in the upper berth and she in the lower.
At 1:00 AM, the man leaned down and gently woke the woman saying....
"Ma'am, I'm sorry to bother you, but would you be willing to reach into the closet to get me a second blanket?
I'm awfully cold."
"I have a better idea", she replied. "Just for tonight,...... let's pretend that we're married."
"Wow!...................That's a great idea!" he exclaimed.
"Good!" she replied. ............."Get your own fucking blanket."
After a moment of silence, ......................he farted.
The End

I have actually used a "used" glass eye that I picked up at Goodwill (yes, at Goodwill) as a joke. Sit around a bunch of folks at a bar or dinner, specially a group where not everyone know you, and bring the glass eye up to you face, and then just drop it to the table, at the same time squinting you right or left eye.
Make some excuse, be polite, bring it up to you squinting eye and act as if you are reinserting it. Palm it away, use you other hand to "adjust" your eye, drop glass eye in you pocket while they are watching you adjust your eye.
Freaks people out.

I don't remember the gentleman's name, but Sons of Confederate Veterns used to have a black guy as a spokesman. I've seen him on the news, wearing full uniform back when the Stars and Bars were such a controversy in South Carolina. I will submit to you that if the biggest challenge the NAACP has on their plate is the flag over the South Carolina capitol, then the Civil Rights movement is over.
They've won.
I recall traveling with a decorated black Petty Officer senior to me in the deep south many years ago and him seeing his first whites only lunch counter. I wanted to join him at the negro counter but he being older and wiser, jointed me on the bus. That was something to get upset over, not a historic flag that represents far more then slavery.

Thanks :-) One wonders whether his decendants should have to pay reperations for slavery or get reperations for slavery. Little things like that get swept under the rug, because there is no money to be made with them.

I think there are several gazacams, but I think they're all in the same room on an upper floor of a building somewhere.
Would this be dangerous for whomever is broadcasting?

I wonder what they think about McKinney.
I honestly do not know, Mandy. I doubt they think she a credit to womanhood, though.

One with talent for rhyme could rework The Owl Critic into something . . . .
...and the rooster kept on crowing.
There. That's it for me.

Well, and they don't fit the preferred narrative du jour.

It's why they are stuck in the 7th century. No time with anything else... go to prayers, prepare for prayers, pray, go home, beat wives, repeat.

Indeed. All that was over before I was born. As were the dogs and water-cannon, and the Republican standing in the doorway of an Arkansas school. Oh, wait, that was a Democrat, wasn't it? Another inconvenient fact that gets overlooked today.

As you can imagine, I've done the same thing with the glass eye. Lot's of fun at parties. I've also dropped it in my drink and tried to fish it out, dropped it into someone else's drink and had it start rolling around my keyboard when I was playing in my band.
So much fun Ollie!
LOL, Good evening everyone. Walter, I went to high school with a kid who had a glass eye. He was no nearly so much fun. He just kept getting t-boned from the left every time he drove!

That's not a cool as using a glass one. Real ones are to "icky" and they stick to things, don't really roll right, and you have to keep them moist all the time.
I lost my eyeball prosthetic many years ago, and I just searched around Ebay and such, hoping to find a new one. I had forgot all about that gag until it came up here tonight.
If any Lizards have any unused glass eyeballs laying around, I would be willing to pay you something for it.
(Does Charles get mad if we pimp for products here?)
