More than 13,000 votes already, and the Mainstream Media is the clear leader for the 2008 Idiotarian Award. Here’s the poll again; you have until this Friday at noon Pacific to vote, and you get three votes per IP address.

[The poll has been moved to this post.]

If the FMSM were to be the bride, I'd find celibacy VERY compelling.

7 Cathypop  Wed, Jan 14, 2009 9:32:37am

It's so hard to choose. Can't they all win the award? They all are very deserving of it.

8 lawhawk  Wed, Jan 14, 2009 9:33:06am

Shouldn't the MSM get a lifetime achievement award? They're just so much craziness and bad jobu that you can't just single 'em out anymore.

I'm going with el Baraedi today, if only because his run at IAEA has seen Iran come ever closer to having a nuclear weapon, which it will use.

Barney Frank is an intriguing choice, but only because he's partially responsible for the credit crisis.

Will the moonbats be as apoplectic about Iran using nukes as they are about the US having used them? Somehow I think not.

Cynthia McKinney seems to be doing well.

I didn't vote for her, does that mean I'm a racist?

12 meeshlr  Wed, Jan 14, 2009 9:35:34am

The msm is full of idiots at so many levels ... local/national, print/radio/television, independent/major news organizations. You just can't go wrong voting for them and I found it really difficult to cast any my votes for anyone else. From the Obama worship fest to the nastiness still directed at President Bush (even by Canadian pop radio DJs!) to the obvious anti-semitism and pro-Hamas slant of any Gaza coverage, the msm deserve to be called much more than idiots.

16 karmic_inquisitor  Wed, Jan 14, 2009 9:36:38am

Too bad George Soros isn't up there - he fueled the MSM and Obama campaigns with a network of "foundations" and "policy groups" that have utterly distorted politics in this country, just as he has distorted trading with currency manipulation and derivatives trading. Maybe next year.

Just curious, I know you've been here quite a while, and I respect most if not all of your stated opinions...that aside: why would you brag about doing something like that? O-bots, technoliberals, and Paulians exhibit such behavior. I saw a few folks openly saying these things, no sarcasm, when the poll opened yesterday as well. I am confused.

As far as 2008 goes, Blago came on the scene too late. I consider him comic relief after the tough election. (like Klinger on MASH)

The MSM in 2008 - between the Obama fawning, the Global Warming Hystaria, and the lack of Iraq Victory coverage - was just awful.

I think Barney Frank is doing well here only because Obama is not on the list.

Frank, Obama, Dodd...they all need to go to prison for what they did.

I'm guessing there's "no controlling legal authority" for such crimes as willfully planning and executing the takedown of two financial institutions in order to gain power.

Martha Stewart went to jail, ferchrissakes. These "men" should be in prison. But no, Frank and Dodd and Obama are at the top.

Rush said a bit ago, we have an Education Sec. that can't speak proper english, a Treasury Sec. with a record of paying no taxes and hiring illegals, and a SecDef. who voted for the war she opposed.

The future looks dark.

In 2008, however, Frank said Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were all cleaned-up just a couple months before they imploded. He was also the frontman for the federal bailout and much of the surrender in Iraq rhetoric.

Frank is a worthy candidate in 2008.

Ok. I did not get the sarcasm, but most here apparantly have. I'm sure someone besides me would have spoken up if they hadn't.

I did it once. Voted in a poll a couple times, maybe two years ago, I think it was a UK newspaper site. Bragged about it here. Got piled on, deservedly. Then someone at the forum at the UK site busted me too. That's the last time I ever did something like that. Then the Paulian hoax, and the LGF-Digg flash-in-the-pan, and I saw that the main MO of the Paulians and Diggbats, the Technolibs I call them, is to be willfully deceitful. Then ACORN, the epitome of deceit in America, aided in the third and finally successful attempt at stealing an election.

I resolved to never do that again. I see who uses such tactics, and whom they serve.

This was a tough thing to do! They are all so self-serving to their own agendas and deserving of this award!

I decided to chose who was "Most Dangerous" (in addition to being a "Flat-Out Idiot") to the world we live in today. Mohamed ElBaradei and Al Gore were my runner-ups to this "Most Dangerous Idiot" label, but the MSM wins hands down for their sheer size, breadth and depth of their threat.

re: #92 Taqiyyotomist

More than 13,000 votes already, and the Mainstream Media is the clear leader for the 2008 Idiotarian Award. Here’s the poll again; you have until this Friday at noon Pacific to vote, and you get three votes per IP address.

Well those are all good choices (there really aren't any BAD choices) but without the MSM's complicity and cheerleading, those folks would have meant NADA.
And I think we should either have had just the MSM or a lot more members of it (Hello Keith Olberman, Alan Colmes, et.al.) than just Chrissy Matthews.

Hey, I'm with ya on the MSM...Charles just didn't give me enough votes!

re: #12 meeshlr

The msm is full of idiots at so many levels ... local/national, print/radio/television, independent/major news organizations. You just can't go wrong voting for them and I found it really difficult to cast any my votes for anyone else. From the Obama worship fest to the nastiness still directed at President Bush (even by Canadian pop radio DJs!) to the obvious anti-semitism and pro-Hamas slant of any Gaza coverage, the msm deserve to be called much more than idiots.

Most of them deserve to be called "unemployed". Let's replace them with plumbers from Ohio.

125 JamesTKirk  Wed, Jan 14, 2009 10:17:41am

Still no McCain.

And I still stand by my assertion from way back in the original thread that this needs to go to someone more specific than just "the MSM".

126 Land Shark  Wed, Jan 14, 2009 10:18:50am

I voted for the MSM the 3 times allowed. As deserving as all the idiots nominated are, the MSM just deserves it more.

I'm doing my part too. I finally convinced my wife to not watch any of their news shows, I pointed out the gross discrepancy between what the MSM is saying about the situation in Gaza and the truth. LGF helped in that regard, she's gonna start looking into alternative news sources on the Web from now on. Seeing what the MSM doesn't talk about on LGF and other sites was an eye opener. Smart lady, no wonder I married her. ;-)

130 lifeofthemind  Wed, Jan 14, 2009 10:54:45am

To me saying MSM is meaningless, like voting against Bad Taste or High Taxes, the MSM isn't even an institution it is merely a perceived social construct, and one that is rapidly fading in importance. I am fully aware of how the public is kept ignorant and the consequences of that. It just seems to me that having a single visible individual rather than an amorphous concept serves a better purpose. Saying MSM runs the risk of our being marginalized, lets them put us in the same category as fringe elements railing against vast secret conspiracies like the illuminati or zionists. Even most of the hate objects mentioned by the left have some corporate existence, the Bilderberg or Skull and Bones. Better for us to objectify an identifiable object, such as the New York Times or NPR.

My votes went to Barney Frank, most of the others on the list were old news.

140 blangwort  Wed, Jan 14, 2009 11:47:16am

I think that over the long run, we'll be cussing at Barney Frank long after most of these clowns have been forgotten.

McKinney is a significant loon on this list, but she doesn't matter enough for me to waste a Fiskie on her. The same goes for Dan Rather (washed up has-been) and YES, EVEN THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA.

We won't even remember who or what they were. They have already become irrelevant.

Runners up to Frank include Blago (An insult to the Senate, if ever there was one) and Murtha who continues the fine tradition of crapping on the reputation of our armed services.

Charles, if I might make a small suggestion for the Fiskie in 2010: Why not give enough votes to each participant so that we get to decide who NOT to vote for instead of who deserves one. --Just a thought.

More then just feeling good, I think we should try to have this vote matter in some way.

My instinctive reaction was to to vote for the Media. But on second thought I rather send a message.

Nothing will happen if the Media wins. No one will care and they, as a group, already know that are despised.

I rather send a message to an individual who it may somehow reach.

Some of the names, like McKinney, get no respect as it is, so a message to them is wasted.

On the other hand, where he is a respected commentator on MSNBC, where Hannity listens to him, where millions may read him, an anti Semitic creep like Buchanan should be made aware that some of us out here recognize him for the slime that he is.

My two cents.

150 mustangmike53  Wed, Jan 14, 2009 12:57:34pm

The word execrable was invented to describe this list and all are worthy, but the MSM was so over-the-top in their drive to elect obama (don't forget how they first had to defeat Hillary in a manner that even SNL found offensive) that none of the others come close to their collective achievements as idiotarians.

How come Jimmy Carter isn't on the list? He is being just as offensive as usual.

153 grundle  Wed, Jan 14, 2009 2:19:56pm

Putting Pat Buchanan and Ben Stein on this list is the fractionated reason why Republicans continue to lose elections. That's what primaries are for. If your guy doesn't win the primary, vote for the guy who won the primary anyway. Democrats show a united front way more than Republicans do.
I know Buchanan and Stein aren't running for office although there are hundreds of candidates just like them who are.
You will never get creationism out of the Republican party, evar! Getting creationism out of the GOP is like trying to get rid of pro life candidates, it ain't gonna happen. They go together like bread and butter. Fractionating yourselves on minor issues guarantees Democrats winning election after election for decades to come. Republicans don't need to be split into religious and non religious factions unless you like Democrats running the country. I guess some of you do.

154 jantjepietje  Wed, Jan 14, 2009 3:27:25pm

Including "The Mainstream Media" in this poll is just weak there is no "THE mainstream media" everyone from left to right from progressive to conservative from communist to libertarian has something to bitch about "the mainstream media" even the mainstream media complins about it self all the time
You should have just included people and clearly defined organizations at witch clear critique points about what was wrong with them can be formulated

159 Throbert McGee  Wed, Jan 14, 2009 11:21:40pm

Best reason to vote for anyone except the Mainstream Media: if the MSM wins this year, they're disqualified for future Fiskies. And that means, at a minimum, four years of an Obama administration in which the MSM will not be an eligible Fiskie candidate no matter how brazenly they evangelize for Obama and cover up for his mistakes.

Of course, persons and corporate entities within the MSM will still be eligible, but not the MSM as a collective whole.

160 Yehudit  Thu, Jan 15, 2009 2:58:46am

Hey Throbert, great to see you're still around. I agree, also "MSM" is too broad, I want more specific targets. The BBC, CNN, Guardian ...

I voted for Barney. His account of himself actually needs to be fisked thoroughly in order to lay to rest the myths about our economic troubles.

161 azul93gt  Thu, Jan 15, 2009 7:41:57am

I'm out of touch I would have thought Rather already had won a Fiskie. If Rather hasn't won one by now he never will.
