There are four hours left to vote for the 2008 Idiotarian of the Year, so here’s the poll again, one last time. The Mainstream Media seem to have the prize in the bag this year, unless there’s a sudden flood of votes for another candidate.

[Poll moved to this post.]

It's the msm's year- they earned it.

2 Jetpilot1101  Fri, Jan 16, 2009 8:08:42am

I still think Paulson and Bernake should have been on this list but I'll settle for Frank. What a triad of dips---s those guys are.

Good Morning Lizards! It's Frikkin Frigid™ in the Very Far Western Suburbs of Chicagoland.

I finally made a decision and voted for Cynthia McKinney.

How are you-all and what are we talking about?

13 godfrey  Fri, Jan 16, 2009 8:12:50am

The MSM should win every year by definition. I voted for Frank. If he didn't see it coming, he's an ass. If he did see it coming and did nothing, he's a socialist ass. There is plenty of blame to go around, but "idiotarian"? Frank. No matter how "clever" and rhetorically gifted he is.

I guess I should have waited to buy my TV this month as opposed to three months ago. Sucks that folks will be losing jobs but you can probably score some great deals during their liquidation sales.

I voted for the MSM the first time, for obvious reasons.

I voted for Sean Penn second, because he's not just another Hollywood Liberal. He's a red diaper baby like our new President, and actual Hollywood Communist who Joe McCarthy would be correct in blacklisting... Not to mention his traitorous schmoozing with Hugo Chavez and Raoul Castro, and his proudly calling for Socialism in America on HuffPo.

Frank got one of my votes, too, but the MSM outdid itself in 2008 for 3 reasons:

1. Obama-love
2. Failure to report on the Iraq victory
3. Supporting the Global Warming charade

When Lechemere went out of business, the prices went up.
The liquidation company took discounts off of list price.
Back then, Zip drives were list $200, street $150. They started at 10% off list the first week, 20% the next, etc.
I bought a Zip drive at Comp USA for $150.
But just before liquidation, I bought a Pentax zoom lens for 1/2 price. Nice.

IIRC, Liquidation Company buys the inventory for cents on the dollar and then sells it. Prices have nothing to do with the bankrupt company's previous selling practices. It's a whole 'nother scam.

A helpless Democrat, wearing sandals, shorts, a 'Save the Whales' hat and a 'To Hell with Bush T-shirt,' was screaming while struggling frantically and thrashing around trying to free himself from the grasp of a 10-foot grizzly.

As the Pope watched in horror, a group of Republican loggers came racing up. One quickly fired a 44 magnum into the bear's chest. The other two reached up and pulled the bleeding, semiconscious Democrat from the bear's grasp. Then using long clubs, the three loggers finished off the bear and two of them threw it onto the bed of their truck while the other tenderly placed the injured Democrat in the back seat.

As they prepared to leave, the Pope summoned them to come over. 'I give you my blessing for your brave actions!' he told them. 'I heard there was a bitter hatred between Republican loggers and Democratic environmental activists but now I've seen with my own eyes that this is not true.'

As the Pope drove off, one logger asked his buddies 'Who was that guy? 'It was the Pope,' another replied. 'He's in direct contact with heaven and has access to all wisdom.' 'Well,' the logger said, 'he may have access to all wisdom but he doesn't know squat about bear hunting! By the way, is the bait still alive, or do we need to go back to Seattle and get another one?'

Wait till the whining about the environmental impact of a plane in the water, the fuel, the oil, the plastics. It will take the river years to recover!

As nasty as that river is, it probably made the plane unrecoverable or usable as replacement parts.

Did we have a thread on the plane crash/landing in the Hudson?

Doesn't matter, it can be summed up thusly:
1) pilot was given a shiite sandwich on takeoff during climbout.
2) pilot see that Tetersboro(?) airport is out of the question after about 15 seconds.
3) pilot makes a command-level decision that that water is the ONLY place to put her down, does a hard bank to the left, and
4) pilot makes a picture perfect ditch landing!

Although I would not want to be on that flight, I would have loved to have been there to see the landing and the rescue. Textbook perfect!

The clean up and repairs to make it flyable would be cost prohibitive. A few years a go a restored Boeing 377 Stratocruiser ditched in Elliot Bay (salt water). Given it was the only one left it was restored. It is now at the Udvar-Hazy part of the Air and Space museum in DC.

The MSM is definitely responsible for a lot of destructive things in 2008 and every year for the last few decades, but giving them a Fiskie is like spitting into a hurricane. There is no donkey upon which to pin the tail. No one individual really stand head and shoulders in the race for ass-hattery (although Chris Matthews does to some extent).

Barney Frank's ass-hattery is just so exceptional. There are poltroons-aplenty in the Congress, but he was not only the loudest and most conspicuous in the development of the mortgage debacle he has had the gall to crank up the volume with his finger pointing and denial as markets were swamped. That is why he has gotten all three of my votes.

147 Aye Pod  Fri, Jan 16, 2009 8:47:33am

I'm back to my original view - putting the MSM in as a category is a mistake. It makes no sense, as no specific element or personage is singled out. Many of the stories and links that are posted here to illustrate anti-idiotarian points are from the 'MSM'. It's not the homogenous ideological monoculture that is sometimes portrayed. If by MSM, you really mean Katie Couric, then nominate and vote for Katie Couric.

There is a history of the Boeing company I read awhile ago (can't remember the title). Boeing has "tiger teams" to do emergency repairs to damaged planes in the field. Back in '70 when Pan Am 93 was hijacked to Cairo. (there's another pilot hero, got his plane to Cairo and all the passengers off). The terrorist blew the cockpit off. The tiger team took a new cockpit off the assembly line and grafted it on the fuselage.

They put a new tail number on the plane so passengers wouldn't be nervous flying a "fixed" plane. However the Pan Am crews where also nervous about the plane. So the re-number it again. Sometime later the Tiger team was border a Pan Am flight and the Pilot said no would fly the fixed up plane. The tiger team nodded and said they understood the pilots concern then boarded for the flight.

Airbus has similar teams. Planes are too, a lot of things happen to planes that make them unflyable, but still very fixable. Awhile back a hail storm ground every plane at an airport in South Africa. Airbus and Boeing sent teams over to replace the skin on the tops of all the wings.

What a total ass.
Not only are the geese normally there, the engine manufacturers study the effect of bird ingestion. It is expected and the engines are designed to have the best chance of eating a bird and still operating.

They fling raw, frozen chickens at engines in the lab and film the event nd look at every engine part afterwards.

While the MSM certain deserves scorn and my contempt, especially for the 2008 election coverage, I had to go with Barney Frank. While Chris Matthews may have felt a tingle up his leg upon hearing Obama speak, and the coverage of the McCain/Palin ticket was overly hostile (except for Greta and Hannity), Frank is still my choice. Not only did Congressman Frank royally screw-up by putting pressure on GSEs without thinking of the consequences, but, when those consequences became painfully known to all, Barney Frank had the gull to blame "free trade," President Bush and Republicans (some of whom had, in fact, years ago tried to raise the issue of GSEs like Fannie and Freddie only to be shot down by Frank) for the blow to the US economy.

Congressman Barney Frank for Fiskie 2008
