Yon: Taliban Hunting in Zabul Province

Images • Views: 2,903

Thanks to Michael Yon for another LGF exclusive photo from Afghanistan.

Small groups of American soldiers are fighting alongside Afghan counterparts deep in Taliban country. We drove all day searching for Taliban, but on this day had only very light contact when someone fired on an Afghan scout. We gave chase and there was a little shooting, but no results.

OT - Really soon, but I wonder if Charles has seen this comment from Spencer's front page, in reference to his "comments" section, which he has had the software updated (but it's not working right)...

"There are a few bells-and-whistles features of the new system that I assure you I will be ignoring altogether, especially the one that allows readers to approve or disapprove of a comment. While on more Stalinistically-minded "conservative" sites that feature is used to monitor dissent and ban the dissenters, that will never be done here, where we still believe in free and open discussion."

He is so full of shit. After my little email exchange with him, my password got trashed twice, and I could not log on to his comments. And out exchange was not on Jihad Watch, it was by personal emails.

Fight the Amnesty for the 20 million wage slaves they let in on purpose.

I find it odd how those who vocally cry out against slavery are often the first to promote the illegal immigration of millions who are often unable to advance above poverty without resorting to crime. They get stuck in horrible jobs with no advancement. I find it odd that those who cry about the paucity of the minimum wage are quite willing to buy products from countries that pay far less.

He wants control of the funds so that he can use them to shape the American economy/market. He wants to give bailouts to the companies he wants to get them, and to allow those that he doesn't want to succeed to fail.

The amount of money he wants to control is staggering. We really can't imagine wealth on that level. He wants to be the one to redistribute it.

It will be hard struggle, but I believe that the media culture of today is doomed, it is a threat to the survival of civilization and it will go the way of all such threats. The only question is how this will happen, whether it will be by failure in the marketplace, the result of rejection by an increasingly enlightened audience, or whether it will be some kind of coercive process involving either government or unlawful action. I hope for the former, but the latter is a distinct possibility.

I hope you are 100% right. Yon and the other non MSM reporters are the only ones reporting that will match the reports from the people of Iraq and Afghanistan. I think people, years from now, will wonder what was going on that the MSM said one thing, and the non MSM reporters and the Iraqi and Afghan reporters say a completely different thing.

Yes, it's a threat to civilization, and it will eventually change, by one of the mechanisms you mention. What I'm afraid of is that the change will be the government ... no, that's not what I want to say. The want-to-control-others mindset, what Sowell called the "Anointed" in his book, are now both the government and the government's cheerleaders. So I think the media culture. aka the MSM, will survive and thrive unless the electorate somehow wakes up and votes in a much more limited government.

Do I think this will happen? Yes, eventually, but probably not during my lifetime. I've been watching this country's steady loss of liberty and growth of entitlement mentality for ... um, call it about 50 of my 65 years, once I started paying attention. The rise of the internet, and especially places like this (thanks again. Charles!) are hopeful signs, but then the Anointed have a lot of places of their own, such as Kos and HuffPo.

My current hope for change (sorry!) is that Obama will so disappoint his acolytes, and frighten his opponents, that he'll trigger a change like Newt's Contract with America in '94, and conservatives of whatever party will gain enough strength in Congress to block his more ambitious socialistic agenda items.

Note that while I'm a registered Republican, that's only so I can vote in primaries, and hopefully do so for Sarah Palin in 2012. I don't think the Republicans, as a party, are much if any better than the Democrats, these days.

I don't mind hearing bad news from Yon, because I trust him to report whatever the truth is.
Can you all back in the States tell me how much coverage was given to the UN asking President-Elect Obama not to change any of the Bush administration's plans for Afghanistan, but rather to simply focus on executing the plans as written? I bet it's not much.
