2008 Fiskie Winner: The Year of the Mainstream Media

For their non-stop, unseemly, worshipful, overwhelmingly biased coverage in favor of Barack Obama, the readers of LGF have chosen the winner of the 2008 Idiotarian Award: our self-appointed guardian of information, the Mainstream Media and its mask of phony impartiality.

Special thanks to John Cox and Allen Forkum for their customary excellent work on the Fiskie illustration.

6 NYCHardhat  Mon, Jan 19, 2009 8:55:09am

The Iraq war was enough for them to win. The election was the vulgar display of power.

I think the "news"man should have had his face planted firmly kissing 0bama's ass. And holding a knife in the back of McCain.

Maybe another cartoon of them sacrificing Israel to some phony god of journatainment.

I cannot truly congratulate them, but they certainly went the extra mile to earn that Fiskie. Or, as a member of said club said during the campaign;

If the mainstream media were any further in the tank for Obama, they'd drown.

-Joe Scarborough, MSNBC

I think both MFM and "journatainment" should officially enter the lexicon. Right alongside "truthiness".

Myself, I have other things to do tomorrow, so I won't be watching the Ascension- or is it the Immanetization? In fact, even the evening news will probably be off for me tomorrow night, as I would like to get a good night's sleep untroubled by acute nausea. I'll probably watch an old Karloff movie instead.

I will make one prediction, though. Namely, that it will be a long time before the MFM criticize The One's policies, if ever, no matter how badly they founder on the rocks and shoals of reality. Because the media put him in that office. And to criticize him, they would have to acknowledge that they made a mistake- in fact, that they were factually wrong, and philosophically invested in a man, a party, and a worldview that is intellectually bankrupt. And that just isn't going to happen anytime soon, if ever.

cheers

Will the MFM cover up any deaths or injuries during the "Secular Hajj*" of Obama's Inauguration as the Saudi's managed to do with the real thing?
[Link: www.poligazette.com...]
But facts leak out slowly, like this:
Gov Confirms Death Of Hajj Pilgrims
Deputy Governor of Yobe State, Alhaji Ibrahim Geidam, has confirmed the death of five pilgrims from Yobe State in Mecca of Saudi Arabia shortly after completing the hajj exercise, while 2,725 pilgrims returned from Saudi Arabia.
According to the deputy governor, those who lost their lives after the completed exercise are all males, two from Gujba, one from Karsuwa, one from Bursani and the other from Nguru local government areas of the state.
[Link: news.google.com...]
===

* the contingent from Savannah, Georgia, refers to its trip as a “pilgrimage”. That word, most often associated with religious fervour, is appropriate here. The inauguration buzz is reminiscent of the excitement I have encountered in Muslim countries in the days preceding the hajj,’ the Muslim commentator, columnist, poet and former blogger writes for the Guardian.

‘The inauguration is a ritual, akin to Muslims touching the walls of the Ka’bah in Mecca. It renders tangible the ethereal. It is a reminder that the government is like an idol, a fact that was well known to those who introduced the modern nation-state - the French even raised a new goddess after the revolution - but which goes entirely forgotten by us.’

He concludes: ‘Still, for its various issues, the thing about the hajj, ultimately, is that it erases all previous sins. It is a time for renewal. Reincarnation without death. A hopeful look forward. It is upon that principle that Obama’s inauguration, the coronation of the first black president in American history, is to be valued. He is a mea culpa for America’s original sin. A trip to this inauguration thus becomes a secular hajj for collective redemption.’

Although Eteraz’s column is rather obviously well-written, it is an embarrassment to Eteraz himself, Muslims everywhere, the American people and Barack Obama. It is yet another example of the ridiculous idolization of Obama; a man who has accomplished nothing yet save for winning presidential elections.

117 big steve  Mon, Jan 19, 2009 9:17:12am

All joking aside, I think we need another term rather than MSM (or MFM). There needs to be two terms for a new outlets in which the viewer/reader/listener KNOWS the source is biased. One is where the source is open regarding its bias so for example if I go to read the Huffington Post, I fully expect the liberal bias. When I log onto LGF...I know that the site is INTENDING to research the threat of Islamic extremism. The second are media outlets that are bias but try to pretend they are not. To be honest Rush is MSM in my opinion but his bias is open and honest but don't kid yourself he is very main stream in terms of established sources of information.

So the first is essentially a branded perspective source (could use a catchy acronym) and the second is a hidden perspective source.

I cannot get over the freaking love affair the media is having. It is downright sickening. 24 hours a day all Obama... Dear God make it stop. Do they realize the guy has done NOTHING in his life that would warrant his ascention to the throne?

I am a bit torn, though. I want this economy to turn around, but that would mean he would be successful. You hear the left and the media begging for the country to "come together and get along". This sickens me as the left did not give President Bush a chance from the get go...remember "selected, not elected"? NOW, they want us to bow down to the great one. Please.

Don't misunderstand. I hate them too much to comment on. But lets face it, the citizenry is not getting any smarter or more worldly, and the MSM caters to their audience. The educational system completely infested with moonbats is the root cause of the world view of the MSM. I can tell you that I took teacher training many years ago, and was appalled at the uninformed moonbats who were training (it isn't actually teacher training in college, the military trains teachers) to be teachers. In case you might have missed this in the spinoff links, a great article on the Bush legacy in the eyes of the MFM.

[Link: www.americanthinker.com...]

A quote "But even this pales in light of the actions of the New York Times, which on its downhill road to becoming a weekly shopper giveaway for the Upper West Side, seriously jeopardized national security in the process of satisfying its anti-Bush compulsion. Telecommunications intercepts, interrogation techniques, transport of terrorist captives, tracking of terrorist finances... scarcely a single security program aimed at Jihadi activity went unrevealed by the Times and -- not to limit the blame -- was then broadcast worldwide by the legacy media. At one point, Times reporters published a detailed analysis of government methods of searching out rogue atomic weapons, a story that was no doubt read with interest at points north of Lahore, and one that we may all end up paying for years down the line. The fact that Bush was able to curtail any further attacks while the media as a whole was working to undermine his efforts is little less than miraculous."

Me too. I used to think he was pompous and full of shit. Now I understand him and he soothes my soul.

He IS pompous but pokes fun at himself as well as everyone else. Above all else, however, he is right about those who - unwittingly or not - are destroying this country and for what it has stood for well over 200 years.

Like it or not and as flawed as he is, Rush has been the biggest voicefor conservatism since Ronald Reagan left the political scene.

I have that problem also. Most of my patients are cool about it and will cancel. However, if there is a gift certificate involved, and they don't cancel I void it. Some of my clients also buy packages of up to 10 therapy sessions (cheaper that way) so I take a visit off if they don't cancel. I personally don't watch TV. But, someone does need to keep a vigilant eye on all the Media. TV included. Tomorrow will be a very emotional day for Chris Matthews, tingling all over.
He should have an EMT at the ready with defibrillators.

I heard wants to top his tingling remark and is in rehearsal to perform this song in a duet with Olbermann.

Chris:
Maybe The One gave me the pow'r,
For I could swim Potomac and be home in half an hour.
Maybe The One gave me the drive,
For I'm all aglow and alive.
What a day this has been! What a rare mood I'm in!
Why, it's almost like being in love!
There's a smile on my face for the whole human race!
Why, it's almost like being in love!
All the music of life seems to be like a bell that is ringing for me!
And from the way that I feel when that bell starts to peal,
I could swear I was falling, I would swear I was falling,
It's almost like being in love.
When we walked up the brae,

Keith:
Not a word did we say,
It was...almost like bein' in love.
But your arm link'd in mine made the world kind o' fine.

Chris:
It was...almost like being in love!

Keith:
All the music of life seems to be

Chris:
Like a bell that is ringing for me!

Both:
And from the way that I feel when that bell starts to peal,

Keith:
I could swear I was fallin',

Chris:
I would swear I was falling,

Both:
It's almost like being in love!

Gazans "mourn" dead. One man quoted saw his Hamas son die, and pledges his remaining children to the cause.

Saber Jnaid said his son, a Hamas fighter, had been killed 12 days ago during Israel's 22-day onslaught on the Islamist militant group. He could not formally receive condolences until fighting stopped on Sunday and Israeli forces pulled back.

"May God make the Islamic resistance stronger," the grey-bearded father told Reuters as he sat with relatives. "I have 10 more sons and I hope all of them die as martyrs."

Hours after Israel declared its attack over, Hamas announced a ceasefire, saying it would observe it provided the Israeli army left Gaza within a week.

They'll get their wish if they start firing rockets at Israel.

Israel is preparing for the oncoming legal onslaught... "journalists" will be poring through Gaza looking for Israeli misdeeds. And I'm sure they'll "find 'em." And Israelis will have to watch where they travel because of concerns about "legal" actions.

This part is particularly troubling:

According to political sources, the situation may take another turn for the worst after the foreign media will be allowed back into Gaza Strip, and the devastation in Gaza becomes more evident.

The Israelis claim that Hamas has been using women and children as human shields never really took, said a source. Whenever it was used the response was the same: If you know that there a women and children there – hold your fire.

Facts are a stubborn thing. Terrorists violate all the laws of war and Israel has a right to respond. The moment you deprive a sovereign state of that capability, you undermine its legitimacy - all nations at that. Israel is the canary in the mine, and it will suffer all the more for going and protecting itself against terrorists who think nothing of sending kids to die so that Hamas can claim a higher body count.

From what I've seen recently, it's Pelosi's job to float the moonbat dreams (such as prosecution persecution of Bush & Cabinet), and when it's obvious that the dream won't float, Obama "moderates" things with some grandiose statement, like how there are more pressing things (note: the moonbat idea is always left with some credence) that must be addressed first.

Press eats that stuff up.

446 SpiritOf1683  Mon, Jan 19, 2009 10:02:49am

Slightly OT, but must get it off my chest:

The ceasefire forced on Israel has this time been well and truly a monumental failure of the West, and not of Israel. The West, its media and press outlets who have tried to outdo Der Sturmer for antisemitism, not to mention the brainless Jew-hating protesters who smash up shops in our towns and cities whenever it looks like the Israelis are on the point of victory, and should now be languishing behind bars, plus the rest of the spineless population, simply won't let Israel finish off its enemies. There is a long history of this dating back to 1967. Every time since then, the West has screamed "Ceasefire" when the Israelis were on the point of total victory and wiping out their enemies. The West has never looked more gutless and helpless in the face of the Jihad since the Crusades ended in 1291, let alone since 1683, than it does today. The Jihadists have triumphed in our cities, with the nauseating sight of the police paralysed by inaction and worse still, running like rabbits from the antisemitic ragbag collection of Jihadist and leftist protesters. If this isn't a sign of the West starting to submit before the Jihad, then I don't know what else is.

End of rant and still steaming.

This, coming from people who did not hold their fire in WWII, is just another sign for the increase in antisemitism we all have noticed in the last few weeks.

re: #323 NYCHardhat320 MandyManners

I hope all who didn't vote for McCain because he wasn't conservative enough are fucking happy now.

Well said Mandy. I hate all of you 52%

Sure a lot of ideologs either stayed home or voted ''other than McCain,'' but a whole bunch of people who subscribe the the idea that intelligent design belongs in our schools voted FOR McCain.
Do you hate them?
If so, add another 10-15% to those you hate.

And then there are many who voted for McCain but who would (unlike most here) align themselves with non-purists (like Vlaams Belaang) in a fight against Islamist supremacy on earth.
(Sure there's a bit of overlap)
Let's say those McCain supporters (he's a middle-of-the-road'er likely to attract just such compromisers) amount to another 20% of his base.
IF you decide you hate them, too that leaves you sitting there hating ~82% of the rest of America.

But, at least you do have those who love you here.
So, that's something.
Now, let's get to work building OUR new base, shall we?
We cannot expect any help from the media, they've laready shown us what driving a wedge between groups who all want the same candidate to win can do, haven't they?

Last minute reprieves. Bush extends pardons to Compean and Ramos.

Expect a few more before the day is done. However, don't expect 'em for Ryan, Stevens, Cunningham, Pollard, or Milikin.

I despise Katie Couric. She's this century's Tokyo Rose . . . without the charm.

Think of her the way I do. Every time I see her, or even hear her name mentioned, I remember the time she reported live as she had a colonoscopy done.

/She did it in the furtherance of good cause, colon cancer awareness, but I find the imagery somehow appropriate.

A reporter camera goes where no one has gone before?
There are dozens of educational films for patient teaching available for colonoscopy's showing scope/camera perspective.
Did she think she was "breaking" a story?

BUSH PARDONS THE BORDER AGENTS!

Bush SHOULD have issued full pardons to Ramos and Compean. That would have been the right thing to do, and he should have done it a long time ago. And he didn't even have the decency to make it immediate. They have to sit in stir for two more months.

BTW, he should also fully pardon Scooter Libby (who apparently hasn't asked for one) and commute the sentence of Duke Cunningham to time served, based on his military service.

Bunch of sore losers you all are. And there was around-the-clock reporting on Obama's associations, no matter how tangential and irrelevant. There was no reporting on McCain's associations, such as his close friendship with G. Gordon Liddy, who as recently as a year or so ago was inciting the public to shoot federal agents, nor was there mention of boards McCain sat on, such as a board that McCain served on that also had a eugenic Nazi "researcher" on it.

re: #459 Iron Fist

I agree, the Republican presidential nominee this year was hardly selected by rank and file Republican's - which is one of the core rules that have to change for the 2012 race. Permitting independents or Democrats to vote in the Republican Party primary race is just beyond asinine.

While I would not discount the possibility of some who enter the party with false pretences, I believe that the pull of these people to take the party to left has far more to do with their own weaknesses in conviction and falling into the ego trap of wanting the MSM to fawn over them for being 'mavericks'.

These Republicans, the RINOs, aren't the intellectual foundation of the party or the conservative movement - but they are truely fetted by the MSM and left as 'useful idiots'. The real question is how do they keep getting elected.

The restraint of that is inappropriate and makes me feel uncomfortable.

re: #466 Mr. Sandman

Who is a sore loser? Folks here are not salivating about the death of Kennedy or any of the tripe you find early and often on the Daily Kos where you appear to be in the company of your own kind. This gentleman is, for better or worse, our president. I hope he does a good job of it. I am not the beggar your neighbor sort of person like you appear to be who wishes with his third and last wish that "his neighbor's donkey will die." Patriotism is about making sure the Constitution is observed, the borders defended, and the laws of the land respected. In cases where the law appears to be ill judged or not in accordance with the Constitution, it is the duty of any Patriot to attempt to get it revoked or bring a case to a high enough court that its Constitutionality is adjudicated. You look for your fellow travelers here. You will not find them. we attempt to be rational.

re: #174 bellamags

While I agree with you in the main there is something that gets overlooked in this type of argument...ie personal responsibility. For example while the Dems were responsible for the mortgage mess those who actually took out those mortgages when they knew they couldn't afford them are also responsible. Thus while I agree that the MFM was mostly responsible for saddling us with the Obamanation blame must also be placed on those idiots who voted for him without bothering to educate themselves on his history (or lack thereof). I've been in the crowds lately and we are in trouble as a nation. The dumbing down of America has hit with a vengence. I agree with Rush that the number one problem we face as a country today is ignorance
