Well, well, well. What do you know about that.

Will the broadcast still be "live" when the IDF sends its response to the rockets? Hmm....

Imagining what Gaza would look like if it were handed over to a real oppressed group of people as a sanctuary. Tibetans, Kurds, etc. We'd see a beautiful, prosperous sea-side community that would be the Jewel of the region, bordering another democratic state (Israel), and the apple of tourists' eyes the world over.

Hamas launches a kassam rocket = the Israelis detect it and advise the civilian population to get to a bomb shelter. Casualties are limited.

IDF Launches an attack to stop the kassams = Hamas advises civilians to go out into the streets and up onto the roof. Civilian casualties are maximized.

Well, here's the answer:

Hamas militiamen have rounded up hundreds of Fatah activists on suspicion of "collaboration" with Israel during Operation Cast Lead, Fatah members in the Gaza Strip told The Jerusalem Post on Monday.

Well, if you can't re-arm during a ceasefire, you might as well kill someone: Hamas rounding up, torturing Fatah members . . .again

Near the end of that article.

In a more recent incident, Hamas gunmen shot and killed 8-year-old Hisham Tawfik Najjar after storming his home and beating his four sons - all Fatah activists.

2) It is far more likely that the transfer occurs pre-inauguration. What, you'd expect the new guy to remember the codes when he's the worse for half a bottle of champagne?

IOF troops target journalists

[ 06/07/2007 - 01:43 PM ]

GAZA, (PIC)--

IOF troops targeted on Thursday journalists who came to al-Breij refugee camp to cover the Israeli incursion and subsequent clashes with Palestinian resistance. One journalist was seriously wounded.

Eyewitnesses reported that the Reuters' team and the al-Arabiya team escaped certain death when invading IOF troops fired towards them while they were covering the Israeli incursion into the Makbola neighborhood south-east of the Breij refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip.

Hanan al-Masri, correspondent of al-Arabeyya satellite television said that the IOF troops "opened intensive fire at the journalists without any justification."

She added that the al-Arabeyya team and a team of three working with Reuters had to take cover inside one of the houses in the area but the IOF troops continued to fire at them causing some damage to their equipment particularly satellite dishes. Both teams escaped injury.

Emad Ghanem, however was not that lucky. He is a Palestinian cameraman working for the Aqsa satellite television was wounded while filming the incursion and fell on the ground. But the assault against him did not stop there, as Israeli troops continued to fire at the injured journalist.

Bush commutes sentences of former US border agents

WASHINGTON (AP) - In his final acts of clemency, President George W. Bush on Monday commuted the prison sentences of two former U.S. Border Patrol agents whose convictions for shooting a Mexican drug dealer ignited fierce debate about illegal immigration.

Bush's decision to commute the sentences of Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean, who tried to cover up the shooting, was welcomed by both Republican and Democratic members of Congress. They had long argued that the agents were merely doing their jobs, defending the American border against criminals. They also maintained that the more than 10-year prison sentences the pair was given were too harsh.

Confessions, some chaos as Gitmo war court resumes

GUANTANAMO BAY NAVAL BASE, Cuba (AP) - Two of the five men accused of orchestrating the Sept. 11 attacks offered unapologetic admissions of guilt Monday in a sometimes chaotic—and possibly final—session of the Guantanamo war crimes court.

The hearings, scheduled over several days, could be the last at Guantanamo, since President-elect Barack Obama has said he would close the offshore prison at the U.S. base in Cuba and many expect him to suspend the military tribunals and order new trials in the U.S.

Ramzi Binalshibh and Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the self-proclaimed architect of the terrorist attacks, casually admitted taking part in the attacks during a series of outbursts as the translators struggled to keep up and the judge repeatedly sought to regain control.

"We did what we did; we're proud of Sept. 11," Binalshibh announced at one point in proceedings that dealt with a number of legal issues, including whether he is mentally competent to stand trial on charges that carry a potential death sentence.

Hanan is On the Scene: (2007)

Amazing how the IOF new that one cameraman was Pali and succeeded to injure him, and continue intensive fire at just the one, and obviously only Pali amongst all those Arab journos.

Did you know that, even though the PLO charter states that the Palis are part and parcel of the pan-Arab Ummah, and not distinct in anyway, that they actually have large triangle shaped yellow heads that make them stick out from other arabs?

Israel not surrendering quick enough.

Saudi King Abdullah on Monday said that the Arab initiative offering peace with Israel will not remain on the table forever.

Speaking in Kuwait City at a summit focusing on boosting economic growth and development in the Arab world, the king stressed that Israel had to understand that the choice between war and peace would not always stay open.

All we are saying is give "peace" a chance.......or we'll kill you.

You would think that Fatah knows that, but no, they do the stupid thing and hang around for the inevitable bully bashing when Hamas is no longer hiding from the IDF.

I think they may have thought that they would get kudos for their 'bravery', rather than death by Hamas:

Fatah's armed wing, the Aksa Martyrs Brigades, announced on Monday that its men in the Gaza Strip fired 102 rockets and 35 mortars at Israel during Operation Cast Lead in the Gaza Strip.

I've long suggested the release of infected vermin would be an ideal way to strike Al Qaeda. Use a debilitating but not necessarily fatal disease in remote regions and set up secured camps with the needed treatment facilities surrounding the region. Many would come to get the treatment, leaving the ones likely to fight sick in their hovels and easier targets for our troops.

Then again, I'm an evil bastard so no one would actually consider this.

What?

Nyarlathotep

And it was then that Nyarlathotep came out of Egypt. Who he was, none could tell, but he was of the old native blood and looked like a Pharaoh. The fellahin knelt when they saw him, yet could not say why. He said he had risen up out of the blackness of twenty-seven centuries, and that he had heard messages from places not on this planet. Into the lands of civilisation came Nyarlathotep, swarthy, slender, and sinister, always buying strange instruments of glass and metal and combining them into instruments yet stranger. He spoke much of the sciences - of electricity and psychology - and gave exhibitions of power which sent his spectators away speechless, yet which swelled his fame to exceeding magnitude. Men advised one another to see Nyarlathotep, and shuddered. And where Nyarlathotep went, rest vanished; for the small hours were rent with the screams of a nightmare.

And here's my mythical take on it.

I wondered whether that was the case when I read about the Plague deaths today. That is a great idea, tactically, but it is banned by the Biological Weapons Convention.

So you would not want to have your fingerprint on that or you would br tried by a world court.

are you sure you don't mean preying?

In case you missed it, here's the prayer:
"O God of our many understandings, we pray that you will…

Bless us with tears – for a world in which over a billion people exist on less than a dollar a day, where young women from many lands are beaten and raped for wanting an education, and thousands die daily from malnutrition, malaria, and AIDS.

Bless us with anger – at discrimination, at home and abroad, against refugees and immigrants, women, people of color, gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.

Bless us with discomfort – at the easy, simplistic “answers” we’ve preferred to hear from our politicians, instead of the truth, about ourselves and the world, which we need to face if we are going to rise to the challenges of the future.

Bless us with patience – and the knowledge that none of what ails us will be “fixed” anytime soon, and the understanding that our new president is a human being, not a messiah.

Bless us with humility – open to understanding that our own needs must always be balanced with those of the world.

Bless us with freedom from mere tolerance – replacing it with a genuine respect and warm embrace of our differences, and an understanding that in our diversity, we are stronger.

Bless us with compassion and generosity – remembering that every religion’s God judges us by the way we care for the most vulnerable in the human community, whether across town or across the world.

And God, we give you thanks for your child Barack, as he assumes the office of President of the United States.

Al Arabiya reporter Hannan al-Masri is one of two women who were seen in the footage from the inside of Ramattan TV's offices, on the Gazacam.

The older of the two women by a fair margin, Hannan was given a wide berth by all of the younger men around her, most of whom moved away rather then interact with her. Many of those younger men stared at the back of her head after she'd past them, and it wasn't lust in their eyes.

A few of the older hands didn't seem to have any problems dealing with Hannan on a "business" level.

The younger woman seen briefly in that video was much prettier, and very clearly "belonged" to one of the older hands, whose desk side she rarely left.

Dammit, I wish there had been a way for me to have saved all of that footage...

re: #359 Kosh's Shadow

I've been there. Go outside the tourist spots, and if you don't speak French, they screw with you.
Went to a restaurant and other parties were done eating before we got our food.

That's pure bullshit. You probably went to some cheap hole to eat. French mentality has changed drastically in the past 20 years. Most young people are perfectly bilingual and even go to the US to do their Masters & PhD degrees.
Don't generalize with one bad experience. It can happen anywhere, in any city.

This raises the questions...

Does Al Arabiya share office or building space with Ramattan and the BBC?

Where are the AP offices that BBC showed photos they claimed were taken from?

Yes, Long Schlong Syndrome does preclude most forms of dancing expertise. Those who are afflicted with such tend to hide their affliction behind large inanimate objects, like bass guitars...

Beg to differ, So?. On our honeymoon, we traveled throughout Nova Scotia, PEI, New Brunswick, and Quebec... everywhere we were welcomed heartily as tourists/foreign visitors... EXCEPT IN THE CITY OF MONTREAL, where we were treated like vermin at restaurants, shops, etc. throughout the city.

Rude. Crude. Ugly.
Will never go back.

OT: I just caught this partially on FOX-didn't catch it all-apparently, this is the FIRST inauguration with no Jewish or Catholic representation, since JFK...Hmmm. I haven't checked, but I bet Budhists, Shintoists, Hindus, Taoists, and Lutherans aren't represented either(along with many others). This ASCENSION is based on the splinter Christian groups, IMHO, especially the ones recognizing what other religions FORBID. I don't find this strange from Zero-I just dread that is an indication of things to come.....But, that's just me.

France doesn't come off too well if you visit the UK first.

I was in Paris in 2001, and not everybody I encountered was snooty--but quite a few were. Ironically, the staff of the American-owned hotel were probably the snootiest.

But there's a difference between "not being snooty" and being nice. I ran into exactly one person in Paris who really qualified--a waiter at a small, (relatively) cheap restaurant near the Louvre. Best meal I had the whole time I was there, and the guy went out of his way to take care of me. I don't know if that was because he figured gringos leave tips if they're happy, or because it was 9/14 and he felt sorry for us Yanks.

But I'd spent ten days in the UK before that, and the difference was night and day. Everybody there was so kind and so bloody helpful it was amazing. I only had big bills on the ride from the airport, but the cabbie refused to take too big a tip. In Wales, the hotel staff couldn't do enough for us. And it was the same chain that owned the hotel in Paris.

I ran into exactly one rude person the whole time I was in the UK...a Pakistani (I think) guy at the Hertz counter.

You can keep Paris. I'd rather go back to London or Cardiff.

Lizards were wondering what Hamas is doing, during this cease fire.

Well, here's the answer:

Hamas militiamen have rounded up hundreds of Fatah activists on suspicion of "collaboration" with Israel during Operation Cast Lead, Fatah members in the Gaza Strip told The Jerusalem Post on Monday.

Maybe the IDF has already hit the Al Arabiya broadcast studio, since the "view" behind the host makes it look like the building is tilting at a rather severe angle.

(Yeah, I know it's a shot from an external camera Chroma-Keyed behind the host, but they should really put the horizon much lower to make it semi-realistic.)

They learned Photoshop, chroma-keying and cloning from the Iranians. Much cheaper than reconstruction, building houses, schools and hospitals you see, so the blind infidel westerners will not see the money being diverted to weapons.

I wondered whether that was the case when I read about the Plague deaths today. That is a great idea, tactically, but it is banned by the Biological Weapons Convention.

So you would not want to have your fingerprint on that or you would br tried by a world court.

Now of course Kragar better hope that nothing like this happens, or it will be obvious who did it....

We already have a oversupply of said rodents in Washington. The plague infested rats would die of over-regulation. More seriously, we have been in a pandemic of plague for the past century. Fortunately, this time most of the more "advanced" societies are able to control the rat population to the point where the fleas win.
