Libyan Wacko Hopes for Al Qaeda Change

World • Views: 4,621

Wacky Libyan dictator Muammar Gadafi is also caught up in the wave of hope sweeping across the universe, and is suggesting that the US should open a dialog with Osama bin Laden. (That might be hard to do, since he’s almost certainly dead.)

WASHINGTON: Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi has an seemingly unthinkable suggestion for new U.S. President Barack Obama: give Osama bin Laden a chance to make peace.

Gadhafi, who is known for outspoken comments, told an audience of American students by videoconference Wednesday that bin Laden has shown signs that he is open to dialogue. He recommended that Obama seek an opening with the terrorist leader who is considered enemy number one in the United States for ordering the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

"If you want to preserve this group, the Jews as an ethnic group, Palestine is not really the right place. The Middle East is a sea of Arabs," he said. "Take them to Alaska or Honolulu or the Hawaiian islands or the Pacific islands and they can live peacefully in an isolated setting."

And only the AP and the IHT take him seriously (I hope.)

Didn't one of those two terrorists (who WERE on trial at Gitmo and who confessed to everything) get interviewed by Al Jazeera in 2002 and use the past tense for Osama way back then?
Ok, that was a long question....but one of them did.
From Lexus:
September 9, 2002

"....A slip of the tongue by one of Osama bin Laden's top henchmen seems to have betrayed al-Qaeda's most potent secret: its charismatic leader is dead."
The blunder was made by Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who has confessed to being the operational mastermind behind the September 11 attacks. During two days of interviews, Mr Mohammed referred to bin Laden, who has not been seen since the fall of Afghanistan's Taleban regime, in the past tense...."

Gadhafi said the single-state solution is in Israel's interests because it would always face strife in the Middle East. He said that he supported the right of Jews to remain, but said that the world should give up on a solution that involves separate states.

What he really means is that this Arab ocean is self-polluting and uninhabitable for civil society.

This sort of statement shows the level of "hope" that Obama has created. In prior times, such "hope" was called "hype" and people thereby did not invest themselves into it. Con artists remarket "hype" as "hope" - especially people who sell snake oil and other things that will "heal" the sick.

When the world wakes up and realizes what a load of crap they bought into, with all of its contradictions being so obvious, they won't be in the market to buy into any more "hope".

Sad days approach for many who are delirious today.

Caroline Kennedy has told Gov. David Paterson that she is withdrawing her name from consideration to replace outgoing Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton in the U.S. Senate, The Post has learned.

Kennedy cited "personal reasons," according to sources.

103 Dar ul Harbarian  Wed, Jan 21, 2009 4:40:14pm

A summary of The Obama's first day:

-Mr. Obama met with his top national security advisers to discuss a timetable for fulfilling one of his principal campaign promises: to withdraw combat troops from Iraq within 16 months.

-Mr. Obama signed two executive orders and three presidential memoranda aimed at making government more transparent and tightening ethics rules.

-The new president also ordered that the salaries of senior staff earning more than $100,000 a year be frozen. The move would affect about a third of the 450 White House staff.

-Mr. Obama signed an executive order prohibiting executive branch employees from accepting gifts from lobbyists and setting new rules on lobbying, both before and after their service in his administration. Under the new policy, no official may work on matters for which they served as lobbyists during the previous two years. And after leaving government, they may not lobby a slew of top officials in the administration -- as long as Mr. Obama is president.

-Mr. Obama also ordered that the administration adopt new rules making it easier for the public to obtain information using the Freedom of Information Act. He issued an order making clear that only the president can assert executive privilege in keeping records secret after an administration ends.

-The new president directed government attorneys to ask for a halt in proceedings while detention policies are reassessed, and moved toward issuing an executive order closing the military prison.

-On Wednesday, Mr. Obama called the leaders of Israel, Egypt, Jordan and the Palestinian Authority to discuss the ongoing crisis in the Gaza Strip, according to the White House. By including Mahmoud Abbas, president of the Palestinian Authority, in his opening round, Mr. Obama is signaling a continuaion of a Bush administration policy that has sought to strengthen the moderate leader over his rivals in Hamas, according to Mideast analysts.

-Mr. Obama also met Wednesday with his national security team, including Gen. David Petraeus, who oversees the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and Gen. Raymond Odierno, the top Iraq commander.

Gen. Petraeus flew to Washington after wrapping up a swing through central Asia, while Gen. Raymond Odierno was participating by video teleconference.

The session marked Mr. Obama's first attempt to find a workable middle ground between his campaign promise to speedily withdraw U.S. combat forces from Iraq and the military's preference for a slower and smaller drawdown.

Funny how that happens when you hear the Predator getting closer each day, when trusted lieutenants are rapidly becoming crispy critters, and you finally realize that 72 virgins don't sound that hot after all, at least for you.

Is Gadhafi still a Colonel?

That is surprising given that Arab armies tend to have more generals than privates. IIRC, one of the justifications used for disbanding Saddam's army was that fact that they had over 50,000 'senior' officers on the payroll but almost no effective infantry.

I used to look at my parents' wedding pictures and wonder why my mother chose that dress. Then, when I was engaged, I tried it on, and then I understood. White doesn't photograph well, and the dress looked much different in the mirror than it did in photographs.

Maybe she just needs a stylist who knows how to tell what steyles photograph well?

Back in the cold war, when we would negotiate force levels with the USSR on things like "destroyers" and "cruisers". We would negotiate the deal, and then turn around and relabel enough destroyers to be cruisers to make the numbers.

Wow, read the rest :

The talk with students was organized by the university's contemporary Arab studies center and two student groups. It focused on Gadhafi's proposal that Israelis and Palestinians should join in a single democratic state that he has called "Isratine."

Gadhafi said the single-state solution is in Israel's interests because it would always face strife in the Middle East. He said that he supported the right of Jews to remain, but said that the world should give up on a solution that involves separate states.

Now, if it's idolatry, then he could have some difficulties. Idolators tend to "punish" their fetishes (you degenerates, you know what I'm talking about, and it's nothing so interesting as your personal tastes and "hobbies"!) when things don't go their way.

Historically the masses are not kind to Messiahs for long.

Which reminds me of The Life of Brian, paraphrasing:

Brian: "You're all individuals, go home and live your lives."
Crowd in unison: "We're all individuals, go home and live your lives."
One lone soul: "I'm not."

Murtha Says His Racist Redneck District Will Take Gitmo Detainees

Do you suppose it has occurred to Murtha that the people living in his district - you know, his constituents, the people who elected him, the people he is supposed to be serving - might not want dangerous terrorists living in their midst?

They probably wouldn't even notice -- after all, they keep on voting for Smilin' Jack again and again, even after all his histrionics.

Obama makes Americans horny....

Post-inauguration euphoria sweeping America could result in an Obama baby boom

Consider that the mood sweeping America is a potent combination of hope and optimism for the future and you have an almost certain increase in pregnancies.

Combine this with the fact that U.S. voters under the age of 30 - the prime child-bearing age - voted for Mr Obama by a margin of two to one and you have the makings of a once in a generation social phenomenon.

My unicorn came broken. According to the care and maintenance manual, it's poop was supposed to be pink and smell like strawberries and cream. Mine's poop looked like children's birthday cake blue frosting and smelled like blueberry muffins. In the troubleshooting section of the manual, it says that this is a sign of a serious and very contagious unicorn virus or just a mere fairy dust deficiency. To be on the safe side, it says that I need to have it disposed of. Further information says the proper disposal of unicorns costs $2500 dollars. 33 isn't bad, if it's a long life you're most wanting.

6 for happiness, 7 for marital bliss and/or unity, 8 for money, 9 for real longevity (an imperial number, in fact)

88 - "Ba, Ba" in Mandarin - means "Gold, Gold" in English. Doubling the word/number for gold makes it doubly lucky. (Do a lot of business with and for Chinese; some of their quirks rub off, and the numbers thing is one of them.)

Anyway, inside the bailout bill, Morris says, will be the instruments needed to ensure over 50% of the population doesn't pay takes (so the country no longer cares how high the rates go) and something about nationalizing the banking system.

The thing is that the Chinese, like a lot of peoples, did not have numerals that were not also characters or symbols in their written language. Consequently, it is possible to write numbers in such a way that they also make words or even sentences. Hebrew has the same thing going, leading to the sciences of gematria and all manner of numerological speculation.

560 Cato the Elder  Wed, Jan 21, 2009 5:57:02pm
The talk with students was organized by the university's contemporary Arab studies center and two student groups. It focused on Gadhafi's proposal that Israelis and Palestinians should join in a single democratic state that he has called "Isratine."

Oh, shucks. Just a couple of student groups. (Shuffle, shuffle. Sniff.) I wonder why they aren't named. Couldn't be the MSA and some other such claque, now, could it?

A single democratic state where one population group is sworn to destroy the other one. Where have we seen that before? Oh, that's right, we haven't. The only way to hold two warring groups together in a "state" is for a bigger state to come along and impose it on them. That's dictatorship. See: former Czechoslovakia, former Yugoslavia. When democracy breaks out they either kill each other or separate. And anyway what you really mean is a single democratic state to be filled up by returning "refugees" and their multigenerational broods until they're the majority, when they'll democratically vote to expel the Jews and establish Shariah.

But why am I even discussing this? It's Gadafi! (Smacks forehead.)

Gadhafi also said that Libya was suffering from the rapid fall in global oil prices and is discussing nationalization of foreign oil assets.

"We hope that the prices will go up again, say to $100 a barrel, so that this idea would be discarded, to stop this idea of calling for nationalization," he said.

You're breaking my heart.

In other words: We'll break our contracts if things don't go our way.

Let them eat sand. Good practice for when the oil runs out altogether.

Be prepared for when you have to be together all the time. Seriously. A friend of mine was a Master Chief on a boomer. 20 years in the navy, sometimes here, sometimes not marriage. Things worked great.

When he retired, everything fell apart... they weren't ready to see each other 24/7... they had adapted to the frequent separations.
