Tech Note: JQuery 1.3.1

Science • Views: 2,665

We’re giving the bug-fix release of jQuery (v1.3.1) a try, to see how it behaves in the LGF jungle. With the first 1.3 release, as noted earlier, we received complaints from more than a few readers of various sorts of problems.

We’ve tested this version in Internet Explorer 6 and 7, Firefox 3 (Mac and PC), and Safari 3 (Mac and PC), and all indicators are green on this end. But we couldn’t duplicate many of the reported problems with v1.3 either, so the only way to know for sure is to throw it into the lizard pit and see whether it emerges alive.

I'm sensing it's just a hair faster in Safari, but I have no specific numbers to give you.

OT: Paul Belien welcomes the BNP int the counter-Jihad movement....
Some Good News from Europe (no link to Brussels Journal)

Even Nick Griffin, the politically astute leader of the British National Party, has grasped the opportunities which Britain’s mainstream politicians are giving him by failing to address the concerns of a large segment of the British voters. Mr. Griffin asserts that “9/11 has changed the world; it has also changed our view of the world” and says that his party is no longer anti-Semitic because it has come to realize that Islam is the enemy.

In a remarkable statement on “Israel’s Gaza Affair” Nick Griffin, while opposing any move “to entangle Britain in war on behalf of Israel”, writes that it is “our clear national interest that [Israel] should survive” and that it is for the Israelis at the ballot box, and not for the British, to decide how it responds “to the cynical provocations by Hamas.”

I popped in a few minutes ago and the page didn't load at all in Safari.

However, I came back a few minutes later, and the site is now working fine and smooth!

What's supposed to happen? I know that over the past 2 weeks my MacBook Pro froze when I had LGF open among a few other windows (not more than 3) and was unable to Force Quit which I found rather odd. I had to shut down my computer manually with the on button. So could this JQuery thing have had anything to do with that...I never experience the inability to Force Quit before. (ok bring on the jokes...)

Serious inquiry.

No, very unlikely that jQuery had anything to do with that. That's an OS-level problem.

Does the NPD have any ties to BNP or VB?

The National Democratic Party (NPD), a German neo-Nazi party, announced on its Web site Monday that it will hold a solemn vigil on January 27 in downtown Berlin to "stop the Israeli holocaust in the Gaza Strip."

Hatred of Jews and Israel has over the years, particularly since the Second Lebanon War in 2006, unified diverse political groups in Germany, ranging from members of the German Left Party to pro-Hizbullah and pro-Hamas Islamists, to the NPD. Members of the Left Party, which is the fourth largest party in the Bundestag, with 54 deputies, marched in anti-Israeli demonstrations over the last three weeks in which protesters called for the destruction of Israel and the murder of Jews and Israelis.

Ff2.0.0.20 is the maximum my office Mac will take, and it loaded OK. Not zippy, but not with an "Unresponsive Script" message, either, which is what I've been getting on most threads for the last 10 days or so. Let's see what happens when this thread gets to 400+ responses, and I'll tell you if it gags or not.

Mac version of Opera and Windoze version of Opera are visually different (font rendering) for me. That's an assessment base on comparing it on my neighbor's Mac and my Windoze machine. I ended up removing Opera from my (Windows) box.

OS calls between the two flavors would have to be totally different.

re: #43 jwb7605

British National Party

The BNP, its former leaders and present leader, Nick Griffin, have promoted anti-semitism and Holocaust denial or revisionism in the past. In 1996, writing in his own publication, The Rune, Griffin stated that:

I am well aware that orthodox opinion is that six million Jews were gassed and cremated or turned into soup and lampshades. I have reached the conclusion that the 'extermination' tale is a mixture of Allied wartime propaganda, extremely profitable lie, and latter witch-hysteria.[41]

The following year, during a Cook Report documentary he stated:

There is no doubt that hundreds, probably thousands of Jews were shot to death in Eastern Europe, because they were rightly or wrongly seen as communists or potential partisan supporters. That was awful. But this nonsense about gas chambers is exposed as a total lie.[42]

Tortured, I tell ya!" and is now suing the U.S. government for unlawful detainment...(this is "How to Become a Millionaire"). Link here... I'm betting he wins his case.

Didja' get the CBBHO memo about freezing upper staff salaries now (even though they're not due for another 18 months)?

Yes, but that's not the memo that I was referring to. My salary is frozen until Pelosi determines if I'm guilty of war crimes.

Somebody sent her a memo ratting me out, accusing me of voting for McCain/Palin. I'm going to contest that, because I actually voted for Palin/McCain.

In cases where time or other circumstances dictate, the gov can issue a no-bid or soul source bid.

In this case, Halliburton is really the only company that can provide mass production of unicorns in a timely manner. The Keebler Elves were a distance second, and can only produce one unicorn at a time.

I think Barry went with the Keebler Elves.

All I can tell you is that with IE8 on the way, no one should be using IE6. FireFox 2 should not be used at all either. If you are using either one, upgrade to the latest and stop whining about stuff on the web not working. You shouldn't be using IE of any version any way.

re: #118 Nevergiveup

We have Arab/Muslim lawyers here working on the defense of Gitmo detainees. These defense attorneys are screaming for "trials" to be held in courts inside the United States -- with all the "rights" that entails. Obviously, it means that the detainees will be released, charges staid, etc. There's no way a prosecutor could present a case (for the reasons you've outlined -- and most notably, "lack of evidence"). (and, I agree, that's why a military style tribunal is the only way -- not civilian courts -- the idea of civilian-style trials is utterly ludicrous, unless, of course, your intent is to free terrorists.

The link I gave before with respect to the CNN "news", though, was about a former detainee now suing the U.S. government for "wrongful detention." that's not criminal, that's a civil suit -- meaning he'll probably win, and then U.S. taxpayers will be forking over monies to said Pakistani.

The links included in a post don't count.
The links you put in the "spinoff links" (top of thread subject) are the ones that count.

There's a category for links that are directly related to the post ('Related to Post'). You shouldn't use that category just to get your link to show up at the top, though -- it should really be related somehow.

Apart from that, it's pretty open. Just try to pick an appropriate category, add a good description, and try to spell everything correctly.

You can also post links using the 'Top Rated Links' at the top of the page -- click the button that says "Submit a Link" and the form will appear.

As a followup to yesterday's thread about Obama not attending the Salute to Heroes Ball, it was brought up late in the thread that there seemed to be mention of the ball on the web anywhere except for stories linking back to the original story about Obama not attending.

The original story was written by a guy who was physically there, but in the spirit of fact-checking lizards, several people searched around to corroborate. It was quickly verified, but for completeness, I emailed the American Legion who threw the ball and got back this reply today:

Good afternoon,

In answer to your inquiry:

The American Legion, as it has on every inauguration day since 1953, hosted the Salute to Heroes Inaugural Banquet & Ball on January 20th. The quadrennial event is co-sponsored with fourteen fellow veterans service and military service organizations and honors recipients of the Medal of Honor. Forty-seven of these heroes attended this year’s event which was held in the Renaissance Washington DC Hotel.

President Obama was invited but did not attend. Vice-President Joe Biden did appear, however, and was very warmly received.

Many thanks,

Media Relations Manager
The American Legion

I'm still seeing periodic spikes in CPU every few seconds, but now it goes from 5% to the mid 50's and back, instead of 100%.

Hmmm, but on THIS page, it's jumping higher, into the 90's, but less frequently.
