IDF Denies Italian Newspaper Casualty Report

Middle East • Views: 2,532

Despite the report from Italian newspaper Corriere della sera, Israeli officials are standing by their estimate of 1300 Palestinian casualties in Operation Cast Lead, mostly Hamas fighters.

Despite a report by Lorenzo Cremonesi, a correspondent for Italy’s Corriere della sera, that the number of Palestinians killed in Operation Cast Lead did not exceed five or six hundred, Israeli defense officials on Thursday said there were around 1,300 Palestinians killed during the fighting in Gaza and that a majority of them were Hamas operatives.

The IDF’s Gaza Coordination and Liaison Administration has already compiled a list with 900 names of Palestinians killed during the operation, out of which 750 are believed to be Hamas operatives.

The vast majority of the Hamas operatives killed were not wearing uniforms to disguise their affiliation, another reason for the exaggerated estimate of civilian casualties by the United Nations.

I agree. Right, wrong or indifferent, no other country would put up with having rockets fired into it's territory, terrorist bombing civilians and militants trying to cause death and destruction at every opportunity.

I'm not sure of the internal reasons for some of the steps that the Israel government takes, but if there is going to be any "state" solution, this must stop.

The thing was the Italians were using anecdotal observations such as empty hospital beds and such.
The IDF had drones watching each missile shot into Gaza, had men held accountable for shots fired into houses or buildings.
I think the IDF will be proven to have been closer to accurate IF Hamas allows an accurate count to ever take place.

Al-Qaeda cell killed by Black Death 'was developing biological weapons'

The group of 40 terrorists were reported to have been killed by the plague at a training camp in Algeria earlier this month.

It was initially believed that they could have caught the disease through fleas on rats attracted by poor living conditions in their forest hideout.

But there are now claims the cell was developing the disease as a weapon to use against western cities. Experts said that the group was developing chemical and biological weapons.

Dr Igor Khrupinov, a biological weapons expert at Georgia University, told The Sun: "Al-Qaeda is known to experiment with biological weapons. And this group has direct communication with other cells around the world.

hot air....
Scientists relieved at end of Bush era

When he vowed in his inaugural address to "restore science to its rightful place," President Barack Obama signaled an end to eight years of stark tension between science and government.

But many of the Bush administration's restrictions on science, like those governing stem cell research, will take time to be removed. And whether the Obama administration entirely reverses strict controls over the government's main scientific agencies remains to be seen.

Still, many scientists were exuberant. Staff members throughout the government's scientific agencies held inaugural parties on Tuesday, and many reported being teary-eyed with joy.

"If you look at the science world, you see a lot of happy faces," said Frank Press, a former president of the National Academy of Sciences and former science adviser to President Jimmy Carter. "It's not just getting money. It's his recognition of what science can do to bring this country back in an innovative way."

Why doesn’t anybody dare say it? Israel Didn’t Leave, It Lost

By Jonathan Mark

Not true. Hamas lost.
Why are some so willing to hand Hamas a victory?
Hamas proved to be totally ineffectual. Their leaders remain in hiding.
Israel never said they intended to remove Hamas from power.
I write this as one who never supported leaving Gaza to begin with or who supported Olmert.
But to pretend that Hamas won is nonsense on stilts. It means accepting Hamas' own definition of winning.
Hamas propaganda seems very effective among some in the media.

After all - they didn't find the agent that was used to initiate the outbreak. This was first reported as spontaneous and natural, and that the terrorists died due to having no access to medical facilities.

Before AQ would release such a weapon, they would need to test it. People wary of terrorist threats should look at this incident with that perspective.

Funny, but this is often forgotten. Bush didn't limit ESCR. He actually established federal funding for ESCR for the first time. It just didn't go as far as proponents wanted. Clinton never funded ESCR.

So, for claims that Bush somehow limited funds is misguided at best, and pure propaganda at worst.

So, to recap:

IDF stands by Claims of Higher Atrocities; HAMAS disputes genocidal number-crunching.

It ain't a case of atrocities or genocide, it is a case of effectiveness of the force applied. Higher casualties to the enemy means less live enemy. And the number of civilian casualties has been exaggerated since Hamas operatives and gunmen weren't wearing uniforms.

Bush banned Federal funding of Fetal Stem cell research. There's more to stem cell research than fetal stem cells, and there is more to funding than federal. There where no restrictions on stem cell research, just federal funding for one aspect of stem cell research was removed.

The Israeli-Palestinian dispute will only be solved by the same manner in which the Third, Fourth, and Fifth Marine Divisions solved the Japanese infestation of Iwo Jima. Peace is sixty four years too late.
Israel was created by vote of the fledgling United Nations at the end of the Second World War.
Most of the Arab States supported Adolph Hitler during the war. Those arab governments that openly aided and abetted der Fuehrer during the war found themselves replaced, staring into the business ends of English and American Army rifles. The Grand Mufti of Jerusalem openly hoped to reenter Jerusalem again and assist those German Soldiers wearing the lightning bolts on their collars with their devoirs after arriving in the back of Irwin Rommel's baggage car but found his travel plans rudely cancelled by the British Eighth Army.
Immediately after Israel's formation, the surrounding Arab States declared war. The hatred of Israel runs too deep to be solved by mere treaty or negotiation, only after a massive nearly total blood bath, after each side counts and recognizes its losses, will peace be possible.

160 njslim  Fri, Jan 23, 2009 9:25:15am

of NOT KILLING as many Palestinians as claimed? So many should they

It does look like another indecisive conclusion... Body counts be damned.

Yes but Israel is ahead on points....
