Change...Change...Change

Has Obama thrown out the baby with the bathwater yet?

Per Power Line:

Barack Obama says his administration represents the end of "business as usual" in Washington. So far that appears to be true. What's happening these days is considerably worse than what has previously passed for standard practice. Currently, the politically powerful are lined up to receive billions in federal bailout funds. Glenn Reynolds best described what is going on in Obama's Washington:

This is not so much a stimulus, as a massive transfer of wealth from the politically unconnected to the politically connected

Two women were playing golf. One teed off and watched in horror as her ball headed directly toward a foursome of men playing the next hole. The ball hit one of the men. He immediately clasped his hands together at his groin, fell to the ground and proceeded to roll around in agony.
The woman rushed down to the man, and immediately began to apologize. 'Please allow me to help. I'm a Physical Therapist and I know I could relieve your pain if you'd allow me,' she told him.
'No, no, I'll be all right. Just give me a few minutes,' the man gasped. He was in obvious agony, lying in the fetal position, still clasping his hands at his groin.

At her persistence, however, he finally allowed her to help. She gently took his hands away and laid them to the side, loosened his pants and put her hands inside. She administered tender and artful massage for several long moments and asked, 'How does that feel?'

He replied, 'It feels great, but I still think my thumb's broken.'

Abraham Lincoln’s ghost has been spotted among strange occurrences at the Obama inauguration

The Lincoln Bible was also Abraham’s family bible, and includes scrawled notes and doodles young Abraham made during particularly long services. Among the most famous of these scribbles is a five-page treatise which he used to convince young Luisa May Francis to go with him to the Spring dance of 1813.

However, since the historic Bible was taken out of storage, strange happenings have followed it.

In the days prior to the event, photographs of the Bible showed strange blurs in the background. When the photos are placed on top of each other and used like a flip book, the photographs show the ghost of Abraham Lincoln doing a happy dance.

Throbbing Lincoln Bible?

Statements taken from several of the workers before they were processed and detained by homeland security officials indicate the safe was loaded with more than 100 video cassettes of “chick flicks” and romantic comedies, such as “Steel Magnolias,” “Sleepless In Seattle,” “The Notebook,” “Legally Blonde,” “While You Were Sleeping,” and “Stanley and Iris”.

Additionally, workers came across dozens of audio mix tapes featuring tracks by Air Supply, Josh Groban, and Norah Jones. “I expected to find lots of papers and secret documents about torture, Iraq, Halliburton… stuff like that,” said Ignacio Cordoba of D.C. based moving company Smooth Movers. “Instead, it was just a bunch of Sandra Bullock and Dermot Mulrooney crap fests and mix tapes.”

Other handlers of the safe noted a manilla envelope that read “Reagan DNA” and a shoe box labeled “Back-Up Heart.” When Cheney noticed what the witnesses had seen, he quickly attempted a diversion by purposely pulling a muscle in his back. He will now be forced to attend President Elect Barack Obama’s inauguration ceremony in a wheelchair.

I made this point here over and over at the time. It is freely available information and can be found on Wikipedia. Anyone with any experience with aneurysms and craniotomies could tell you that 7 months of recovery time indicate a rough course, and could also tell you the part of the brain most likely injured and the consequences of that injury. Some people do pretty well, but I would sleep a whole lot better if I saw a current MRI scan and a complete neuropsych test before letting this man put his finger on the button--and I would say the SAME even were I in 100% agreement with his positions. This is a matter of national importance, his medical record in this respect should have been released, and yet no one seemed to care...

A copy too of one of the works of Erasmus that was dedicated to Ann Boleyn's father in an effort by Erasmus to schmooze Henry VIII and we know what happened to her. From Drudge:
Political Interference Seen in Bank Bailout Decisions
Barney Frank Goes to Bat for Lender, and It Gets an Infusion
[Link: online.wsj.com...]

Troubled OneUnited Bank in Boston didn't look much like a candidate for aid from the Treasury Department's bank bailout fund last fall.

The Treasury had said it would give money only to healthy banks, to jump-start lending. But OneUnited had seen most of its capital evaporate. Moreover, it was under attack from its regulators for allegations of poor lending practices and executive-pay abuses, including owning a Porsche for its executives' use.

Nonetheless, in December OneUnited got a $12 million injection from the Treasury's Troubled Asset Relief Program, or TARP. One apparent factor: the intercession of Rep. Barney Frank, the powerful head of the House Financial Services Committee.

Looks like we have another case of political double dealing here packaged as "stimulus." Look at who the Chairman of OneUnited (which bills itself "The First Black-Owned Internet Bank" as if that should matter) donates to. Look at all the D's.

See my #329.

There is a whole lot of blame to pass around.

True, but I do agree with your point that staying home on election day was self defeating. I just saw your 329, spot on.

Okay, maybe that one was bit obscure, but the idea was to convey the humorous image of him with the garden hose inside the sorority house.

Wait, that sounds feeelthy!

I was going for a deliberately obtuse angle.

My excuse is I'm an asshole.

That term is politically incorrect. You should now refer to yourself as "differently orificed".

Sorry, but I can't stop laughing. A Saudi rehabilitation program: well here's an AK-47 , 5000 rounds of ammo, 2 dozen grenades, a rocket launcher, oh, a brand new iPhone, and a 1-800 number in case you find yourself wanting to eat a ham-burger or need more ammo. Ok. You can go. Happy Jihad. Death To America!

/another rehabilitated terrorist from the Saudi rehabilitation program

That is so wrong... do you have any idea what 5,000 rounds weigh? Sheeesh! 300 rounds tops!

Hi all. So, Blago is for Gov. Asshole of Ill.? Not to be slow or anything. I get hopen as an ironic ref to President O's hope thing, but is Blago about Gov. Asshole or about blogging - or both? Am I having a senior moment? If so, uh oh, because I'm too young!

Yes, Blagojevich (Blago) is the Leading Asshole in the State of Illinois. Daley just called Blago cuckoo today. A surreal case of the pot calling the kettle black.

Which, in turn, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Lindo Coffee Co.

Some whack-jobs a couple years back claimed that Lindo was owned by the Pickle Factory. San Jose Mercury ran with the story, as I recall.

I read that story. He apparently left them packed in cages on the roadside rather than turning them over to an exterminator or letting them loose. It's not the fact that he got rid of the rats, it's how he did it.

Brutality towards rats.
My problem's with the ASPCA. How come they didn't free the rats?

> Marines in Iraq fall for heehaw honey of a mascot
> BY MATTHEW HANSEN
> WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER
> His name is Smoke, he likes hay and long walks in the desert, and he'll soon be married to the Marine Corps if an Omaha Marine stationed in Iraq gets his way.
> Col. John D. Folsom has spent the past month playing matchmaker, slicing through red tape as he tries to find an American home for an Iraqi donkey who has become a beloved creature at Camp Taqaddum in Iraq.
> A one-way plane ticket to the United States is the natural next step in the flowering relationship between Smoke and the Marines stationed west of Baghdad — big, tough Marines who feed the donkey treats, regularly snap his photo and coo at him when no one else can hear.
> Once little more than skin and bones, Smoke the donkey is now calm, clear-eyed and content under the care of Marines stationed at Camp Taqaddum in Iraq. It's an affair of the heart that began when the malnourished, wounded animal happened onto the U.S. military base last year, unwittingly stumbling upon Marines who welcomed a floppy-eared friend in the once dangerous and often tedious Anbar province.
> "There's been a lot of bonding on both sides of that fence," Folsom said by phone Friday from Iraq. "The truth is, you can't help but love ol' Smoke."
> The affair began after another donkey wandered onto the base last year, found himself surrounded by dozens of the United States' best-trained fighters — and proceeded to elude every last Marine and run away.
> Someone videotaped the scene, speeded it up for comedic effect and set it to Boots Randolph's "Yakety Sax" — music familiar to those who know "The Benny Hill Show." Brig. Gen. Robert Ruark and Folsom laughed when they saw the tape, but they also issued an order: The next time a donkey comes onto the base, actually catch him.
> One August morning, Folsom awoke to an ear-splitting "Heehaw!" He walked outside and found a donkey tied to a tree and braying his lungs out.
> It marked the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
> A military veterinarian treated Smoke's wounds — which included cuts on his face — and de-wormed him and gave him a rabies shot.
> Folsom found an Iraqi vendor to supply hay, which he fed to fatten the skin-and-bones donkey during the scorching summer months when the country's native grasses burn up.
> The Marines built Smoke a corral. When they realized he didn't care for wind or rain, they built him a stable, too.
> Folsom and the young donkey began to take long evening walks together around the camp. Well, one of them walks. Smoke sprints wildly about the desert, jumping and braying and returning to Folsom only when he's tired.
> As the walks increased, Folsom began worrying about Smoke's fate when the Marines returned home.
> Could the donkey go back to his old life, a harsh existence foraging for food in a country torn by war? Would he even survive?
> "I don't know the first . . .thing about donkeys," Folsom said. "But as I thought about it, I thought we'd accepted some responsibility for the animal. We became responsible when we made him a member of the family."
> As Folsom hatched a plan — which he code-named Operation Donkey Drop — Smoke's fame began to grow. Marines snapped his picture and e-mailed it to their families in the United States. Their children immediately fell in love.
> One young daughter asks about the donkey every time she writes her father, Folsom said.
> The Marines made him a blanket that features the unit's logo on one side and "Kick Ass" on the other. Smoke wore the blanket when he pranced in front of the marching Marines during a 9/11 parade.
> Smoke has met Gen. James T. Conway, commandant of the Marine Corps. Or was it Conway who met Smoke?

Would you want the rats freed? A responsible person would've called an exterminator instead of just leaving them packed in cages on the roadside. They're not PETA, they're against cruelty, not against proper rat removal or slaughterhouses or dairies.

371 SFGoth  Fri, Jan 23, 2009 2:11:53pm

Just booked my plane tickets to M:unich for Fasching (Carnival) next month. Two and 2 half days (3 nights) of glorious partying in what is becoming my favorite European city (besides Leipzig during mega-goth festival days). Now I need to get back to work protecting the rights of Northern California property owners. One thing about my job -- it jibes with my politics very well.

372 Temujin  Fri, Jan 23, 2009 2:16:16pm

re: #370 Honorary Yooper

I suspect that PETA, just to take one example, would have wanted to free the rats. Which was what I was amused by.

Would I? no, not really . . .

373 lostlakehiker  Fri, Jan 23, 2009 2:23:30pm

The Illinois governor is so full of himself he'll pop. He's an irremediable, nonstop, arrant Blaggart.

Unfortunately, he has a certain flair for the Milosevic/Duce/SpiroAgnew style. When caught in the crosshairs, double the stakes and squirt a cloud of populist ink.

374 Empire1  Fri, Jan 23, 2009 2:30:13pm

From Butler's Esperanto-English dictionary:

blago: (ŝerca mensogo [joking lie]), blarney, cajoling talk, fib, humbug, pretentious nonsense, tall story, trick.

Quite an appropriate coincidence, ĉu ne?

375 oh_dude  Fri, Jan 23, 2009 2:34:41pm

Here's a funny one...

I walked into the office this morning and said to hello to one of my co-workers who was sitting in his office. They guy is a pretty staunch liberal, but still pretty tolerable.

He's a big cell phone/blackberry addict so I asked him... What do you think is more dangerous while driving... Talking on your cell-phone (without a hands-free device) or texting while driving?

He said... "well texting while driving is way more dangerous. It's pretty obvious."

I asked... "well then, why did they decide to ban talking on cell phones while driving first, (without a hand-free device) way before they banned texting while driving? (we live in California)

His reply... "probably because the people who made these laws don't know how all this stuff works."

I said... "So what you're saying is that we have people up in Sacramento making laws for things that they really don't understand?"

He was stumped.

Sounds like the critic was right to criticize.

Sigh...they never ban the ones doing violence. That would make too much sense.

Is it true that the first "foreign leader" that Obama called on Wednesday morning was Mahmoud Abbas? How disgusting if true.

381 TheAntichrist  Fri, Jan 23, 2009 10:43:08pm

Well I am one Chicagoan who has hated Blago since 1994, when he tried to shake my hand at the Fullerton el stop when he was running for Congress. I could tell by the hair he was a sleaze bag, and I balked when he stuck his hand out to try to get me to shake it. His wife was with him, and said "this is the candidate" as if I should have been impressed... I just walked away. His little trip to Serbia w/ Jesse Jackson to free the US POWs several years later confirmed my first impressions, which have obviously been set in stone since then.

I actually live a few blocks from this jackass now, when I drove by his house late this afternoon the media circus was raging in front of his house.

I can't wait until he joins Ryan in prison.
